The coach controls what team shows up! You can have an off night..But this team is TOO INCONSISTENT...You got more talent up there than ever..The best talent in Dyer County, about 5 kids from Lake County, A great quarterback, probably the best running back in West Tn in Medford, Wr's that can catch and run, depth/size on the offensive and defensive line, and the team is like a "YO-YO" Up and down..All goes back to the head coach, "YOU GOTTA HAVE SOMEBODY THESE KIDS WILL RUN THROUGH A BRICK WALL FOR"..What do you think they would do with somebody like Comer, Kevin Ward or Vowell at the helm?..Think about it. Gonna be more talent than ever there in the next season or two..What's gonna happen?..

Man, blow it out your ear...Renshaw never"BOOTS ANYBODY" that's the problem...Freaking parents raising cane in practice, kids screaming and hollering at coaches, Players "PERSONALLY ATTACKING COACHES" in the locker room?....Kids will do what you let them do..You can't be "BUDDY, BUDDY" with a bunch of 14-18 year olds..They will "EAT YOUR LUNCH"..I've never personally attacked a "KID" or a Coach's integrity or character...Renshaw is a GOOD MAN..Never questioned that..He is a fine, christian man and would probably make a fine assistant.. but I don't think he will ever get it done there...As far as "GLORY DAYS"..LOL..ONE GOOD SEASON...They had great senior leaders on that team..BA Davis and that bunch refused to let them lose. ...It's no different at either school....Go to a Dyersburg game or a Dyer County game..Same thing..Parents screaming at the coaches all night long. no discipline and talent out the wazzou..Especially at DC...They got more talent than ever up there..But like I said at the start of the season.."THEY WILL BE LUCKY TO BREAK .500"..Looks like I'm right on this one... And if you see me out somewhere..be sure to "CRITIQUE ME ON MY SLOTHNESS"..I look forward to it..

Dyer County has GREAT TALENT..but bad coaching..You never know which team is gonna show up..The one who lost to Bolivar or the one who thumped State Ranked Hardin County...Congrats on the win...They play a tough Jackson Northside team next week...I pick Northside but you never know which bunch is gonna show up...That all goes back to Renshaw...

Your second paragraph said it all..He had "ALL THE TALENT IN THE WORLD" at Haywood County..Size and Speed galore, you don't have that type of talent in Dyersburg, never have, never will, He's a great guy but he's not the answer over here.

Stowe had a lot of talent to work with at Haywood but still had a losing record against Dyersburg. That being said, The guy's dad was a great coach, he comes from a football family..But so did the Shula brothers...He's not the answer...Dyersburg needs to go in another direction.

Like I said before.."Bart Stowe is a fine man but he's not the answer" No offense to OC football but did you ever see the day Dyersburg would lose TWO straight to OCHS..The longer Stowe stays the further we go in the hole..Just the way it is...

As much as I would love to see that..IT WON'T EVER HAPPEN...Too many of the "POWERS THAT BE" won't ever allow that...It's a shame, though.

Stir em up?..Did you check the ATTENDANCE on the Dyersburg side for Friday nights game?...Stowe is a GOOD MAN..Just because you are a GOOD MAN..doesn't mean you are a GOOD COACH..I wish the man NO ILL WILL, but do I think he is a GOOD FOOTBALL COACH..No..Does he know FOOTBALL?..I am sure he does..Does he command discipline and respect?...If he did..Some of these kids wouldn't PULL some of the bone headed stunts they do..."ON AND OFF THE FOOTBALL FIELD"...

Counce went to the SEMI-FINALS Twice ...Newby went ONCE IN 1974 with the CLASS of 1975( James Patrick, Steve Gaines, Sammy Gauldin that bunch) Oh and Jimmy Noonan was a Junior...Counce went to the Semis in 97 and was undefeated until they ran up on Pearl-Cohn...Then again in 2006 against David Lipscomb... That 2007-2008 Class was the class everybody was waiting on..Might wanna do your homework the next time you start throwing stats and dates around... There weren't as MANY teams getting in the playoffs back when Newby was coaching..though they did have to compete against the privates...21-0 was how back a Mike Wright led Father Ryan squad beat Dyersburg back in 1974...Oh, and that team was coached by future Austin Peay and MTSU coach.."BOOTS DONNELLY"... Counce ran into a Nashville Pear-Cohn team that had John Henderson, Reggie Ridley and Buck Fitzgerald all of whom went to UT...Santonio Beard was the tailback who went to Bama....I think we might have put a couple of kids at UT-Martin..48-0.. Pearl-Cohn won it all that year... Then in 2006 Ran into a David Lipscomb squad that was runner up to Knoxville Fulton for the State Title ...beat us 42-7...Never punted once during the game or attempted a pass if I remember.. Counce is gone and will never be back..He WAS a good coach...but Stowe UNDER ACHIEVED at Brownsville, and you won't have the talent HERE like you had at Brownsville ( Oh He Had Alex Watkins who ended up going to Alabama and a few more who signed D-1 Scholarships..) Counce won because he had LESS talent..Had to be disciplined and oraganized....Stowe might be a good man..but as a coach he is LACKING..Just watch and see how the season plays out...

Yeah I knew he was an assistant at Henry County when I PLAYED was the head coach, then was head coach at CAMDEN CENTRAL for one year before coming to Dyerburg...Just the way some of the Henry County fan's were talking it was like he was from "another country"....

No, Your memory is wrong..He went 0-4 Against Dyersburg from 2005-2007....Counce beat him 3 times and Bowling beat him once... Counce beat him during the regular season, then again during the playoffs during 2006..Bowling beat him in 2007..Go back and check just what he OVER ALL Record was against Dyerburg...Nobody attacked Darren Bowling..Darren knew he walked into a no-win situation and EVEN TRIED TO GIVE THE JOB BACK TO COUNCE..What I mean by "NO-WIN" was that team was loaded...Anything less than a run DEEP into the playoffs was gonna be considered a failure...Darren Bowling is a fine coach, glad he won a State Title at Union City. As for Bart Stowe, I didn't curse the man, or attack his character...I know I didn't go to the game because I knew it would be a fiasco..Turns out I was right.. I never said he was a BAD PERSON..He just has NO DISCIPLINE when it comes to running the program.. The way the kids acted at Arlington was pitiful..Friday night was just another example at how things are getting out of hand.. That's just calling it like you see it..Kid's coming off the bench and fighting, mouthing, you can't have that... DO YOU THINK THAT IS A WAY TO RUN A FOOTBALL TEAM?

Counce going with the TWO PLATOON SYSTEM?...Like in college and the pros...He was doing that his last year at Dyersburg...The one year he was gone to be an assistant at MBA...He came back and this is what he brought with him...He will always have some kid with "WHEELS" at the quarterback spot...The two platoon system was working good for him at Dyersburg until he ran into a LOADED Memphis Mitchell team..Just TOO MUCH talent to over come... You guys got a GOOD ONE in Counce...He's old school..He will have that team DISCIPLINED and IN SHAPE...Hate Like heck, he left Dyersburg...He and Counce Jr are two great coaches...Counce Jr is a great offensive line coach and I guarantee you...Look at some of the kids NOW and Look at them this time next year...Guarantee you this..There won't be many teams you face who will be STRONGER or in better shape...His team's down here were known for that...He'll beat you in the fourth quarter because he'll beat you at conditioning and in the weight room...You guy's got a GOOD ONE!

I know he is up there...What is he coaching?...He was a great offensive line coach at Dyersburg and as far as a strength and conditioning coach you won't find a better one...

You got one of the best strength and conditioning coaches plus great offensive line coaches in the state in James Counce Jr...I wouldn't be blaming the CRAMPS on Counce..The guy KNOWS what he is doing..

Stowe lost TWICE to Dyer County while at Haywood and that should have never, ever happened...No way Dyer County should EVER have beat Haywood..No way..That's ANOTHER BIG RED FLAG in itself!

Comparing Stowe to Darren Bowling is like comparing Tommy West to Don Shula...NO COMPARISON...Bowling made the WRONG CHOICE into walking into a team that people had been waiting on since they were 8th graders...Undefeated as Freshmen, Undefeated as Sophmores only to be put out in the first round, lost twice as 11th graders to Crockett County and to David Lipscomb in the playoffs.. Bowling took a bunch of slow, white boys at Obion Central and won with them...He is a GREAT PROGRAM BUILDER..but he brought Logan Parker into a "NO-WIN" Situation...He took a kid ( Rashad Taylor) who had lost 3 games in 2 seasons as starting quarterback and moved him to a back in his mid-line veer...Tyler Caldwell rushed for over 1,000 yards as a sophmore while splitting time with another back, and put up great numbers as a junior...Tyler WAS an I-Formation tailback...Every back in Bowling's offense HAS TO BLOCK for it to be successful...Tyler and Rashad never blocked, Parker ended up keeping the ball, and the crowd was constantly complaining...that might have been a case where Bowling was intrigued by all the SPEED he had and his unwillingness to change to suit his talent cost him....Tyler Caldwell was a great back but he wasn't a great back in that offense...Yet a lose to Dyer County and a Super Human effort by Ken Torrey at Memphis Mitchell put a team that most had picked to go to State since they were freshmen out in the second round..Bowling was/is a really good coach, but Bowling IMO tried to be too "BUDDY, BUDDY" with these kids...A new offensive system and a lack of discipline ruined it for Darren..He left and won a State Title at Union City..Good for him.. But The Bart Stowe hire left EVERYONE who know anything about Football scratching their heads...Don't know what happened but the MAN WHO SHOULD HAVE BEEN HIRED was KEVIN WARD..A John W. Tucker Disciple who has worked miracles at Camden Central..Word is he was going to be the next hire and then he backed out..Don't know the specifics but we struck out on that one...Wade Comer at McKenzie was supposed to be next in line..That one went out the window..So we ended up with Bart Stowe.. Bart Stowe for all I know is a fine man..A fine Christian man who comes from a Football family. His father the late Jim Stowe is a legend in Lexington..A hard nosed ex-marine who alwasys had tough, well coached teams during his tenure...But anybody who watched Stowe at Brownsville and KNOWS football, knows he UNDER ACHIEVED badly..Sure he made a few runs in the playoffs..But we are talking about HAYWOOD COUNTY here...Athletes galore, Size and Speed are the norm, not the exception...You can't win at "BROWNSVILLE" you can't win anywhere...And if you look I do believe Stowe had a LOSING record in head to head meetings with "THE LEGEND"..which if you are going by "ATHLETE Vs. ATHLETE should have never happened...No way was Dyerburg really even supposed to be ON THE FIELD with Haywood County, yet we would be...And when you beat people you have NO BUSINESS BEATING..That's the sign of a "PROGRAM".. Stowe walked into a loaded team last year. Several returning offensive linemen, a quarterback in Chase Brown who had game experience and a 1,000 yard rusher in Snook Taylor...The season started off well, but rumblings were everywhere..For some reason PARENTS couldn't get along with a few of the assistant coaches..( Tony Butler was one name that stood out)...Players were fighting with coaches, Coaches with Players, players with coaches and each other...and a LOADED, STATE RANKED TEAM who lost a nail biter to Crockett County folded up like cheap suitcase after that...I guess the back breaker was a loss to Obion Central at Obion Central...No offense to Coach Jackson and the Rebels, but no way Dyersburg should have ON PAPER lost that game..No way..Parents and player's arguing and bickering that night was the final nail in the coffin..The team threw in the towel and that was that.. Again the word was "EVERYBODY IS RUNNING OVER STOWE".. This season comes along and you hear.."COACHES HAVE LEFT" going to be a great season..And yet, you see the picture that "SMITTY" posted in the State Gazette of the team winning a lineman's competition at some camp and they are all posing and flexing their muscles like they had won a State Title..."BIG RED FLAG" for me...No coach worth his salt ( again no disrespect to Bart Stowe as a man) would have allowed that picture to be taken and a team acting like that...NO DISCIPLINE...They go to Arlington and show their butts...Stowe is like Adam Renshaw..FINE, FINE Men..but who have NO DISCIPLINE...I didn't attend last night's game because I knew it would be a FIASCO..Turns out I was right...Players fighting, benches clearing, multiple penalties, why would you want to pay money to watch that?.. I am an Alumnus, A former player and I respected the heck out of James Counce..People tend to forget we had a .500 season and maybe 2 winning season from 1974 to 1994..We were everybody's homecoming opponent...Counce came in after ONE SEASON at Camden and turned this program around.. Yeah he made to state semi-final appearances, and got blown out..But when you go THAT FAR into the state..You usually run into GOOD COACHING AND GREAT PLAYERS..We had the good coaching but never had THREE SEC players on one team like Nashville Pearl-Cohn did that night in John Henderson, Reggie Ridley and Santonio Beard...That's two that went to UT-Knoxville and one to Alabama.. Counce and Counce Jr are gone..Counce Jr has left MBA and is back at Henry County...They have a lot of talent up there and although they lost one to Liberty last night..Look for them to make some noise up there..Joe Gaddis was a great coach with two state titles under his belt..From Tullahoma and Oak Ridge. So it's not like Counce isn't walking into some pressure there.. So, Nobody down hear is "TURNING ON OR NOT GIVING STOWE A CHANCE"..The program has done a 180 degree turn towards the WORSE...No discipline, No respect, we will NEVER have the athletes at Dyersburg like Haywood County and now with every kid and their brother from Halls, Lake County, Gibson County, Dyer County PLUS the City of Dyersburg going to Dyer County...The SCALES have been tilted towards the school up 51 North..Talent wise..Renshaw has a lot of talent but he too like Stowe has no discipline..If he cracks .500 I'll be shocked.. So, We have NO HEAD COACH who is going to get "THE BEST" out of these kids here at Dyersburg...Counce is gone and I really don't like the way he left..But it's a free country..A man can do what he wants I guess...But Dyersburg needs somebody who is going to TAKE A STAND..RUN THE PROGRAM THEIR WAY..DON"T TAKE ANY LIP OR GUFF OFF THESE KIDS OR THEIR PARENTS..."YOU CAN'T BE BUDDY, BUDDY WITH A BUNCH OF TEENAGE BOYS..THEY WILL RUN ALL OVER YOU"...THEY AREN'T GOING TO DISCIPLINE THEMSELVES...AND THE FEW THAT ARE TRYING TO DO RIGHT..EVENTUALLY THEY WILL GET TIRED AND SAY TO HECK WITH IT..THEY DON"T DO IT..SO WHY SHOULD I"? Counce Sr. quit when Jr went back to MBA...Now Junior has left MBA and is back with his father at Henry County..How do you blame that on Ramer?...Counce bailed on us when Jr went back to MBA..Junior wanted to coach in college and thought he could achieve that at MBA...Now he is at back at Henry County.. I agree though, It will being interesting to see who we get in after Ramer hangs it up.. And you're right..He UNDER ACHIEVED at Haywood...I always liked our odds when the other school had better athletes...A James Counce team would be there in the fourth quarter...These days, We are SUNK..

Bart Stowe was the WRONG HIRE...He walked into a loaded team last year...Several returning seniors, a 1,000 yard rusher and experience galore...Bickering, infighting, Coaches clashing with players and vice versa, parents clashing with coaches, took a state ranked team down the tubes... Stowe is a fine man for all I know, and having grown up in a football family and been a coach KNOWS his X's and O's..But on the discipline area he falls WAY SHORT!...How many years has it been since Dyersburg fans have watched such an undisciplined mess...People ragged on poor Darren Bowling and Stowe's making him look like Nick Saban... I will support Dyersburg football..I am an alumnus an former player..But the wrong man is at the helm..Same thing at D.C ..Adam Renshaw is a CLASS ACT as a man and person..but as a football coach he is like Stowe NO DISCIPLINE... James Counce is gone and will never return, but with him on the sidelines you always liked your chances EVEN when the other team had the advantage in the athlete department...Don't know what it's gonna take or what it's gonna cost..but we need another coach who leaves no doubt about "WHO IS RUNNING THE SHOW"..and who will put the "FEAR OF GOD" in these kids.. Football is a DICTATORSHIP..not a democracy...Until we get a coach who is gonna do things HIS WAY and TELL meddling parents and the troublesome kids to take a hike we will go nowhere but DOWN..

You are correct. I remember all of this and I was at the 79' game against Dyerburg. How many coaches would have kicked off a future SEC player? That was back in the days before drug testing and somebody told Tucker they spotted Smith and another kid smoking dope...Tucker took them over to TRENTON and gave them a polygraph..but the next year Smith was back and Milan made the playoffs.. Friends of mine told me when they had a "Roast for Coach Tucker" Smith showed up and cried like a baby...Said he would have been dead or in prison if it weren't for John Tucker...

I have enjoyed your posts about Dyersburg football. You speak from the heart and I respect that. IMO, this was a team completely void of any leadership or discipline. Tons of talent in the wrong direction. Hey, Oldskooldog..I notice in you sig..You have ONE MISTAKE...Milan didn't make the playoffs in 1979...That was a RARE loosing season for John Tucker..We beat Milan 17-10 to open the season..and it was Labor day weekend...Tucker had practice Saturday, Sunday after Church, Labor Day..etc, I think 20 something players quit....That was the only year Milan didn't make the playoffs...That was back when you HAD to win your district...Humboldt was State Champ that year and Lexington was undefeated until they met Humboldt in the playoffs... No disrespect but I have heard TOO MANY STORIES about that 79 season..That was the year Tucker kicked Jeff "BIG BO" Smith off..because he thought he was smoking weed...Let him back on the team the next year...and Smith ended up at UT...

Sheffield 36 Dyersburg 20....What did Dyersburg end up 5-6?...What a shame..Ranked in the top ten in the state at one time...Come apart at the seams...Turmoil, arguing and a once promising season is over...Hope this isn't a sign of things to come in the future...Don't think Stowe is the right man for the job but...He is our coach...Just hope we don't return to the days of being a "DOORMAT"...lived through too many of them...We have a program that for the past 12 years has been one we can all be proud of and other teams when they lined up to play us knew they were gonna play a well coached, well disciplined team for 4 quarters....Sure would hate to see that go South...
