  1. And OC heard how dirty Dresden plays before the season as well. I don't think either was playing dirty, I think both were playing what the refs allowed. And I did not see it as one-sided. Regardless, we will not agree. As far as the middle school, I call crap on that one. I was on the OC sideline and the middle school game was not dirty in any way. I know those coaches and kids personally and there is no truth to that. And I do not believe the coaches at OC are teaching to play dirty. As I said, there were more instances of staying engaged after the play than anything and though it may be undisciplined, I don't see that as being dirty. As for Truthteller's "typical OC football" comment, get real. Yes, there were probably 10 personals against OC, and probably 5-7 personals and unsportsmanlike against Dresden. I saw both teams get their heads crooked and forget the game for some time. Unfortunately for OC, Dresden got their heads back in it and the Rebels didn't. I agree that the kids are taught to go as long as the ref allows and those refs were horrible in never reeling in control. By the way, just how professional was the Dresden coach in getting on the field yelling at the Rebel players? Is this the same guy that threw official's flags under the bleachers previously? Doesn't matter, thankfully kids play the game and most grownups support them in positive ways. I believe the conduct of both teams should be embarrassing for each. Neither will help their program or their reputation in a game such as that.
  2. Should be a good game. The Rebel line played better this past week and hopefully will continue to improve. I haven't seen the Hornets this year but sounds like they are rebuilding. Looking forward to a good game that in my opinion could go either way. If OC plays like they did against Dyersburg, forget about it. Otherwise, there may be a chance.
  3. That was the most undisciplined game I've ever watched. The refs had no control. I didn't see it being as one sided as some others apparently do. I saw too much after whistle engagement by both sides, and I saw both sides taking advantage of what the refs allowed to happen. I would have benched several players if I were the coach, on both teams. Once the flags started flying I saw lots of baiting and lots of response to it. It could have been a good game if not for the lack of discipline. But to say that OC was dirty just isn't so. The majority of the personal fouls weren't for dirty play, they were for staying engaged after the whistle, and both sides were engaging. But instead of controlling the game, the refs decided to just through flags at anyone who breathed wrong. I'm sure plenty will disagree, but I saw both sides playing the same game. Now, for the serious part, the aroma wasn't as bad as I've "enjoyed" in the past.
  4. Perhaps the early evening dew will supress the odiferous eminations of the local swine!
  5. Not much to crow about in OC again this year. A new coach, offense, defense, and underclassmen in key roles spells a very long season for the Rebels. Most of the players have had playing time so that's not much of an excuse. The offense is sooooo vanilla that they should have it by now. I personally think there have been some playing where they shouldn't, but perhaps Coach Goltra will do some shifting this week. There is some talent there and plenty of work put in, it just hasn't come together and i think it's partially because of the too simple and predictable offense. But I believe him to be a good coach and perhaps things will improve. As for Dresden, if the OC defense makes one KEY adjustment to it's scheme, OC can hang. However, if that adjustment is not made early, your talented QB will look like a Heisman candidate. The standard scheme for his defense has a flaw against Dresden's type of offense and it will have to be corrected or it will be exploited to no end. The seam and slant will be doom for OC if not corrected. Regardless, there will be a decent crowd of us there to enjoy that Dresden aroma!! GO REBELS!
  6. The Rebels got a win last week against Frayser, but not a win to brag about. Frayser was terrible. OC didn't have a ton of yardage but they did work with a short field. The offense looked better but still isn't where it needs to be. The skill position players are mostly juniors and a sophomore but have playing time so that's not an excuse. A new coach with a new offense once again, but it's not a complicated scheme. They want a power running game but I'm not sure they have the line to accomplish that. I like that the lineman pull to help lead, but they have to handle the D-line and get to the linebackers to be successful. Goltra seems to have brought some much needed life into the system and win or lose, I think he is an asset to the program. I do believe they have to develop a better passing game to keep the defenses honest. I think OC is best suited for a west-coast style offense to enable them to take advantage of what's given. I understand that Dyersburg has several defensive starters out for a few games and although OC has a few players banged up, I don't think they have any that will miss the game. Even with number 2's on defense, I dreadfully expect a Dyersburg win. But on a good night, the Rebels could prove me wrong. I just don't think OC is ready to compete on the level they were at a few years ago. Hopefully the new staff will get them on the right track to field a competitive team on a weekly basis.
  7. Oh, I'm sure the Rebels will weather the storm. A blowout this year may be turned around the next, just ask the Trojans! Is the game at 7 or 7:30?
  8. Last year was a great game and I would have loved to have seen a rematch in the playoffs. I think they were evenly matched. I said throughout the season last year that Dyersburg was going to be as much a challenge as Covington was for us. OC should be competitive again next year but should be back in contention the year after. Lots of starters in skilled positions are sophomores and a couple of freshmen seeing playing time. They have some high potential coming up and will be interesting to see what they are capable of. I'm no Dyersburg fan, but they have a strong program and I expect them to do well in the playoffs. Seems to me discipline has returned under the current staff and I truly applaud their turnaround. After Friday, best of luck to the Trojans.
  9. Wow! And just think, 2 years ago Dyersburg was the cupcake for OC. Yes, the Rebels will end up 2-8 for this season. Dyersburg is obviously playing well and will finish at 9-1. Congratulations to them and the coaches for righting their ship. The true Rebel faithful will still be on hand to support as always.
  10. I'm pretty sure they don't expect any this season. Does anyone have an address for the Hornets field?
  11. Just a couple of notes. I'm using my job as a stepping stone to higher ground also, so I don't see that as a problem. And I would invest millions of dollars for the kids of this county if it were possible. How much has Gibson County invested? Apparently not enough! (Yes, that was uncalled for and I'll be darned if I apologize for it considering when Jackson was hired your comment was that OC deserved what they got.) And at what point is the cut off for "nice enough"? Sounds like Obama wanting to redistribute the wealth. Apparently you don't know what it costs for UC Turf Management to maintain the grounds. At what point doe it become nice enough? Afterall, Westview plays in a nicer stadium!!! And its really old news for you to compare everyone to Milan. They have a great program, but they aren't the program OC is trying to immulate. As I've said before, it IS about the kids and that is what matters. Regardless of the banter on here, Friday should be a good game between 2 struggling programs. I will be there to appreciate the uniforms, field, helmets, and the big inflatable one in the end zone. My kids have graduated from the fine establishment of Obion County Central High School as did their mother. It has proven itself to me and mine. GO REBELS!
  12. WOW! OC isn't good enough to deserve the equipment they have, or the uniforms? But, it's all about the kids! Sounds highly hypocritical to me. And you're implying the Hyde kid got paid to transfer??? Probably the same amount the 2 South Fulton kids got to move over to UC. According to your logic, you should win or have to play in "hand-me-down" leather helmets and overalls! lol Get real. OC beat UC in I believe 7 or 8 of the last 11 meetings in football. I know when my son was playing baseball a couple of years ago UC did not beat the Rebels in baseball (that would have been Speed and Sherwoods last year). Basketball I don't follow so much. I believe the girl's softball is close but OC owns the girl's basketball. I think UC dropped the Rebels because after all these years, the Rebel programs have improved and the decrease in UC numbers has evened the playing field. Dude, you have serious issues, the least of which is a smokey football helmet the kids run out of. Seek help for your condition.
  13. I don't believe Jackson was there for the 1st 0-10 season of the 2 back to back the Rebels had a few years ago. And I remember several teams winning by 50+. I don't agree with everything Coach Jackson does but I don't think OC is hated by anyone that didn't get some payback in the last couple of years. Covington may win by 50 and the players will deal with it. How Jackson runs his off season and what he uses for motivation means nothing to real teams, not anymore than Covington's playoff video last year. From what I saw he used the teams that beat the Rebels last season for motivation. Makes sense to me. I am however glad to hear that coaches in the league have the kids' interest at heart. I personally don't care if Jackson stays or goes. OC will continue to play football win or lose, with or without him. There will be good years and bad years. This year is undoubtedly a tough year with a plethera of talent to replace from graduation. But with several skill players being sophomores, the good will return. And the dastardly Rebels will be hated upon again.
