  1. Morris and Counce are old friends. They have been down that road with P.A. already. I think Coach Counce comes back next year. His son will be interim coach this fall.... Coach resigned because of his health and most of all to be with his wife who was very ill and passed away.... Coach Counce is probably 57-58 years old..... The man loves football...... It's my guess he MIGHT BE BACK THIS FALL...... Stay tuned......
  2. Do I support Dyersburg High school athletics absolutely..... Read the post.... I said that Brian Brown played his kids ahead of BETTER ATHLETES, I am not bashing the kids, they are the sons of a coach, they can't help who they are or the position they are put in. What I am bashing is the POSTERS WHO CLAIM THAT WHOEVER IS HIRED WILL BE MADE BY THE SCHOOL SYSTEM TO FAVOR THE BROWN CHILDREN. I call BS! And there were times where he did play his kids above better athletes but he also pulled out "shooters with the hot hand" and replaced them with other kids who were no relation to him. The guy is better off coaching baseball. And they still have a heck of a team coming back next year.... And yeah there is no Kemp or Chism walking the halls at DHS or anywhere else in this region. But Rudisell took the GIRLS TEAM to the region and they only won a FEW games a couple of years ago. Yes I am a Dyersburg fan. My daughter who lives with her mother goes to Dyer County. But to say that a coach will be hired to coach "JUST THE BROWN KIDS" is crazy. If they can play, play them.... But "whoever coaches won't "be made by the SYSTEM to treat those kids any different than anybody else".... That's what I said was nuts... There are NO RICH KIDS PLAYING BOYS BASKETBALL..... That's what I am sick of hearing. All the anti-Dyersburg posters keep claiming the "RICH KIDS" and BROWNS KIDS will play..... I say What rich kids? And if the new coach thinks they can play, play them.... Alot of time the worse thing a kid can do is play for his/her parent..... Too much pressure and Too much is expected!
  3. Word has it the newly hired Dyersburg High School Football coach Darren Bowling is resigning. Bowling who had been hired after long time coach James Counce had retired is expected to announce his resignation the first of next week. Sources won't say, but Bowling apparently had a riff with asst. coaches and is resigning. Coach Counce who had suffered a heart attack during the middle of last season, retired to be with his wife who was very ill. Sadly she passed away about a month ago. Sources say James Counce Jr. will be promoted to interim head coach for the upcoming season. Don't know how that will play out since Counce Jr. is employed with Jimmy Dean Foods in Newbern. Expect James Counce Sr. to be back on the sidelines in the fall of 2008...... My youngest daughter goes to Dyer County and she asked me about it...... She said I heard Dyersburg lost their football coach...... Stay tuned.....
  4. Well, Rudisell was touring Dyersburg Monday. So apparently he is interested. And from what I hear he is the frontrunner for the job....
  5. Rudisell was at Dyersburg this week. He coaches at Bolivar Central where he has won a few state titles. I understand he is coaching girls basketball too and even had them in the region if I'm not mistaken. I hear he is the frontrunner for the Dyersburg job.......
  6. Ain't nobody "hating on Justin Blake or any other kid that goes to Dyer County. Wish them well and good luck in the future. But if you think that Dyersburg went to the trouble to fire Brian Brown then have another coach come in and Cater to just Brian Browns kids then you are freaking Nuts!. Everybody seems to be OK with the football program because they went to the semis. Everyone seems to be ok with girls basketball because they went to the state finals last year and were in the region this year. SO YOU ARE TRYING TO TELL ME THAT BOYS BASKETBALL IS THE ONLY SPORT WHERE THE SO CALLED SYSTEM CALLS THE SHOTS! I CALL BS! Rick Rudisell was in Dyersburg this week. And apparently he is interested or he wouldn't be over here. And Brian Brown ( whom I never liked his style of coaching OR playing his kids above better athletes) is gone. Think the school system is just going to target Boys Basketball? Yeah, right. There are no rich kids playing boys basketball. You have the two browns and the Berradi kid and who else? Everybody is beating that horse to death. And the talent that is walking around in those halls....... If they get Rick Rudisell (and apparently he is interested or he wouldn't have driven almost 2 hours to get over here) then he will take the remaing talent and kick some ######..... You think Dyersburg is gonna pay big money and tell Rudisell who to play? What's gonna be funny is this year will tell how good a coach McCord is. Can he keep everyone's head from getting to big? Here he is gonna have a deep bench.... Wonder who is gonna raise heck about "enough playing time". Rick Rudisell had Willie Kemp and Wayne Chism... He has the CHAMPIONSHIP RINGS....... And he knows what he is doing....... Dyersburg isn't going to keep losing money with kids leaving...... If the kids weren't leaving, nothing would have ever been done.... They want that bank account looking BETTER... They will land a "Name" coach". Bank on it. Gonna hire a coach just to coach the two Brown kids.....LOL....ha,ha,ha, ha,........ That's funny.......What the heck does Brian Brown contribute?........He is no "huge donor to the athletic dept...... Oh, that's funny...... What will be funny is when Rudisell or whomever they hire starts winning..... then alot of kids who are in 9th or 10th grade at DC want to come BACK to Dyersburg and jump on the bandwagon and they won't be allowed......Hire a coach to just coach Brian Brown's kids.....That's hilarious!
  7. Dyersburg is STILL a school of excellence. The academics are MUCH harder than Dyer County. And a little bird just told old Stevie Ray that Rick Rudisell was AT DYERSBURG HIGH SCHOOL THIS WEEK TOURING THE CAMPUS. He is #1 on the list...... That want a "name" coach. They will land a "name" coach whether it be Rudisell or Cisco. Apparently Rudisell is listening; he made the drive over here to look and listen what they had to offer......
  8. Victor needs to hang around. Dyersburg has got ALOT of talent coming back. McLin can only benefit from a REALLY GOOD coach. Those kids that went to Dyer County had no competition to compete with. Dyersburg had some kids who could play. Mclin, Pierce, Glynn, Mitchell, AND THOSE 3 left. So if Dyer County has all this talent that I hear is going up there or waiting in the wings, then we will see what kind of coach McCord really is; There is only one basketball I know all Five starters return but will players be happy riding the pine? And Dyer County will go from being the hunter to the hunted. They will not "sneak" up on anybody this year. Can McCord keep everyone's head out of the clouds? Can he keep players from listening to the hype and getting the "Bighead"? Will they stay focused and hungry? If everyone goes to Dyer County that I hear is going to Dyer County then, I see some "EGOS" being damaged. Never was a Brian Brown fan, don't know the guy personally but didn't like his style. If Dyersburg brings in a Rudisell or a Sisco then watch out. They have enough returning players to be a force..... And McLin and his game can only improve......
  9. Tyler Caldwell, Dyersburg Put up big numbers on last years semi-final team. With three returners starters and Qb Rashad Taylor back. Look for Caldwell who rushed for over 1300 yds and 24 tds to put up big numbers again in New Coach Darren Bowling's offense.
  10. When it comes to academics Dyersburg takes a back seat to no one. I went to DSCC for 2 years before transferring to UT-Knoxville where I received my degree. I had a professor tell me, if you get an academic diploma from Dyersburg High school, you will be prepared for any college you attend. And she was right. Anyone who ever had "Rose Tillman" for English should know. Mrs. Tillman was retired when my oldest 2 children came through, and I wished they could have had her. My youngest child attends Dyer County (her mother and I are divorced) and its a piece of cake compared to Dyersburg. When I was at DSCC the classes were easy for the other graduates of Dyersburg High and myself,, while kids from Dyer County, Lake County, Halls, Ripley, Obion Central all seemed to think it was much harder. Not knocking the other schools, just that academics at Dyersburg are really hard. And it is a national school of excellence. Only Chattanooga Baylor is the other in the state of Tennessee. And as far as the coaching search goes, Dyersburg is losing kids to Dyer County. Sure they lost 3 basketball players. But they have lost other kids who could throw a rock and hit the high school yet drive 20 miles round trip every day because "its a new building". And its easier at Dyer County. I know from my youngest child. But I think with the football program being in the shape its in, the girls basketball program being in the shape it's in, all is left is to get a "proven coach". And the reason I think is: They are going to have to have something to sell the kids. I am sure there are fine outstanding assistants who would do well, But not at this particular time. Dyersburg wants to win, they want to keep the kids here, ( because they lost 3 basketball players, what does the future hold regarding the status of the DMS players? I for one didn't like Brown's coaching style. Nothing personal agaisnt the man, but he seemed to hot headed for the job. That why I think they will go after a Rudisell or a Cisco. I may be wrong, but time will tell......
  11. I don't know the kid or anyone in his family. I just know his parents when I see them.I have seen him play. I think he is like the rest of the kids and is sick and tired of Brian Brown. I am sure it would tempting for the kid to move to Newbern and play for DC next year. And he would be the missing piece to the puzzle. A big man who can run the floor with that bunch and be the legitimate low post threat that DC lacked. But I think that if some of these kids stay and SEE who they are going to get for a coach, then it will probably determine whether they stay or go. If they brought in another Brown, then I would hit the road..... But maybe if they bring in a Rudisell or a Cisco it couldn't do anything but improve Victor's game or any of the other kids game. And they have some pretty good returning players, Rex Pierce, The Nicholson kid, McLin, I don't know anything about Victor Mclin Jr's situation. I know he has a twin sister that plays for Dyersburg who is pretty good. But Brown can't coach. He couldn't cut it. And Justin Blake made the right move because I don't think he would have thrived in Brown's system. But I don't know any specifics on Victor Mclin Jr's situation.
  12. James Counce made more money than any football coach in West Tennsesee possibly the state. His Replacement Darren Bowling had his salary DOUBLED from what he was making at Obion Central. Counce I am told from a very reliable source was between 65,000 and 70,000 dollars last year. And Micky Mahon? That cowboy boot wearing , bench kicker, couldn't coach his way out of a paper bag.His wife knew more about basketball than he did. And he came to Dyersburg in what 1983? WAKE UP! This is 2007. Have you walked around and looked at the football facilites at that school? It's better than most small colleges. Yeah, the kids sold cookie dough for CHOIR and they sold cookie dough for BAND not athletics. Athletics is were you make your money. Don't agree with it, just the way it is. Do I think a kid should get a first rate education? Absolutely. I think that TOO much emphasis is placed sometimes on athletics and not enough on adademics. Because let face it: After high school how many of these kids will go on to play college ball? IF Tyler Caldwell GETS HIS GRADES up to snuff and puts on more muscle he will be a D-1 player. And in regards to what I said about Justin Blake, he will probalby play D-1 but who else? But like it or not Dyersburg SPENDS money on athletics. James Counce didn't have to teach class full time. And with kids leaving and going to Dyer County its hurting their enrollment. And if they hadn't been hurting them in the pocket book, they wouldn't have cared if kids transfered. But it is. That's why they will hire a proven winner. My daughter came home from the state tournament and was telling me "Coach McCord Could be going to Dyersburg? Why would he do that? We're gonna have a great team next year? It's called money. Look at the long term picture. But personally I think they land Rudisell or Cisco. Everyone will know within a couple of weeks......
  13. Liberty was BATTLE TESTED! They had 4 games with those Willie Kemp/Wayne Chism teams of Bolivar last year and finally won one. They battled a talented but undisciplined Mitchell team that had Thaddeus Young and Brandon Powell ,not to mention a couple of more D-1 signees yet, won because they played as a TEAM and not for the name on the back of the jersey. This bunch had been throught the wars for 2 years. No one would have beaten them. No one. Not this year. They played together and played for Liberty. Not for the name on the back of the jersey which in some cases happens too often. Too many kids worried about "I got mine" instead of "We got ours". Way to go Liberty!
  14. I said they will "Pay to get who they want". Money is no object when it comes to ATHLETICS! And who are we a step behind in this region? My Children graduated and got a diploma from a "National school of Excellence". Chattanooga Baylor is the only other school that comes to mind that is one in the state of Tennessee. Go back and read all the post JackEddie. I said in the past the money played a part in the rich boosters kids playing. No doubt. I was there in the early to mid 70's and I played for Bobby Newby and I saw how "Dr King's son lettered and the "Rich Kids played before the country boys. I know all about it. But I want you to tell me who comes from a RICH FAMILY or their dad is a REALLY important person (some kid who REALLY gets alot of playing time). I don't know of any CURRENT kids except the Browns who played who shouldn't have been playing. But Their enrollment is down, they are losing money, so they will PAY TO get a good coach. Bottom line. Just like they did in football. They will spend and get a good coach. But as far as kids from money starting on these current teams I don't see it! And as far as Rudisell or Cisco coming why do you think they would come? MORE MONEY! Just like anyone who had a chance to better themselves financially. Would you leave your job for about double of what you are making?
  15. Two years ago no one from Dyersburg gave a thought about transferring to Dyer County. I applaude Derek McCord. Brian Brown couldn't carry his clipboard. But "let's quit all this bandwagon jumping". Victor McLin will benefit from a Rudisell or a Sisco IF he listens to them. Not everyone in the stands is a coach. They might think they are but they aren't. Rudisell put Chism and Kemp at UT and Memphis. The last time I checked they were playing in the NCAA tournament plust they won a couple of state titles. So Victor take this from someone who is watching as a neutral observer: Your game needs work. You have the height to play at a mid major. Ball handling, shot selection, fudamentals all could be improved. Jump ship go to "another school" to play for a winner, ( Dyer County if you are lucky to get in) and you might end up at UT Martin if you are lucky. 6-5 post players in this day and age are a dime a dozen. Hang around for your sr.season. Get GOOD coaching from a proven winner. You will benefit from it in the long run IMO. Like I said my children are grown, but Dyersburg will be fine once the right coach is in place. And trust me.... He will be.
  16. As I posted before on Rick Rudisell, I have no children who play or have played for Brian Brown. I know his inlaws. He DID play his sons over more talented players. Brian IMO was too hotheaded to be a basketball coach. Should have been coaching baseball. But either way he is gone. Dyersburg isn't going to keep losing talented athletes to Dyer County. "It aint' gonna happen". So, they will hire a proven winner. Brian Brown was hired because his wife was a former Lady Trojan and his father in law was a prominent booster. So, to combat the players leaving, they will hire a winner. A proven winner. There has been talk about McCord at DC. IMO I say they are going a different direction. I heard they are after Rick Rudisell or Sisco at Union City. The holdup with Rudisell is he apparently bought a huge farm in Hardemann County. But Dyersburg will pay. And they are courting Cisco too. You may ask why both? Don't put all your eggs in one basket. They will get one or the other. THEY HAVE THE MONEY! They will pay more than either Bolivar or Union City. Dyersburg isn't going to let their enrollment keep dropping They are a national school of excellence. The other is Chattanooga Baylor.James Counce the ex football coach made between 65-75,000 a year. Sam Miles and Lloyd Ramer made more but they are principal and Supt. Dyersburg will hire a "proven winner". Dyer County basically took 3 players from Dyersburg and made the final 4. It is not talk. It is fact. Look for Rudisell or Cisco to be your next "Black and Gold" coach.
  17. Hi, I am new to Coach T, but not the situation in Dyersburg. Yes, Brian Brown played his sons over other more talented players. I don't know Brian Brown the man but as a coach I didn't like his style. Too many good players to not go further than what he had done. He is out. Either forced out or quit on his own. But I do know one thing: Dyersburg High School will pay BIG BUCKS to get a basketball coach. Money is no object. James Counce made between 65,000 to 70,000 a year to coach the football team. Their facilities are top notch. Their enrollment is dropping and they are not going to be outdone by letting talented athletes drive 10 miles up the road to Dyer County. And I got off the phone with a pretty reliable source who said the Rick Rudisell was the #1 candidate for the Dyersburg High Boy's basketball coach. The only problem that Rudisell to my knowledge purchased a big farm in Bolivar last year and that might be the holdup. If Rudisell isn't the man the Marty Sisco is #2. Money is no object. The only problem Dyersburg athletics had for years was the kids of the prominent boosters played. That was just the way it was. But no more. Brian Brown played his sons, but other than that he didn't stick anyone on the floor who couldn't play. He rotated too much IMO. And that being said, Dyer County will say " Dyersburg will play the politic game". There are no "kids from money familes" playing basketball or football for all I know. J.T. Beasley dad is a chiropractor but he signed with Missouri so, he must be a player. I don't blame the kids for going to Dyer County to play basketball, but I think that Dyer County better enjoy it. Because what Dyersburg wants, when it comes to a coach, they get. If they want Rick Rudisell, they will get Rick Rudisell, because lets' face it: "Money Talks , BS Walks". IF he doesn't come because of his farm or whatever look for Cisco to land. Because in the end whoever they bring in will be a proven winner. Someone who can stick a couple of Championship rings in those kids face and say "If you want one of these, play for the me"..... Time will tell.
