  1. I will agree with you that the blame game should be over and it's time to move on, but the Standard makes it pretty clear that the parents and players are to blame for not supporting the coaches. Especially with the "Now What" article. But, I would like to say that I think our Sports Editor does a great job with covering all the sports by himself. I cannot see, however, that anyone could be wrong in wanting a change for the program. And believe it or not, it's not all about the win- loss record. It's more about whether the students respect them as coaches and will play for them. Back a few years ago, students would be proud to represent their school by being part of the school team, but that's not always the case anymore. Now, you have to have a coach that the students will play for or they just won't put out the effort to play when they can have fun and play jaycees league ball. It was time for a change and I would love to see WC basketball build the program back up to where it should be. Go Pioneers!!!

We do have a very young team this year. Only 2 seniors on the team, a few juniors and a big sophmore class. We have a new coach that will be a great asset to our team. It will be a rebuilding year, especially after losing Tony, but we do have a strong young group that should be competetive for the next few years.
  3. There is a letter going around and I have read it. I don't have a copy of it, but someone else may have and be able to post it. However, it is a very long letter with a lot of information in it. Maybe three pages. I hope someone can post it, so everyone can know the whole situation and why WC is so upset with the way things are now. The information in the letter is true and states the facts, but parents are really afraid to put their name on it because of it being held against them and their child. The girls sure don't need anything else against them. Hopefully, someone will come through with a copy on the thread. Stay strong Pioneers!!
  4. I agree with what you are saying and it does look bad from the outside, but I don't believe that any of the posts are directed at the girls. I know they are directed at the coaching situation and the reflection of the team because of it. This county loves and supports every player on the team. The program is in very bad shape and the fans, parents, and especially the players are extremely frustrated and they need a place to vent. This is exactly the place to do it. We can't afford to wait until the end of the season and have another year go by with the same results. Parents are afraid to speak out or sign the letter because they don't want it taken out on their player. If you don't think it's true, then you don't know the coach at all. We cannot afford to lose another player or any more support for our program. WC can have a competetive girls basketball program again, but not with the current administration in place. Every parent wants the best for their player in any sport. We should be putting the girls first and not the politics. Everyone is tired of WC basketball being a joke. We have tremendous potential and deserve better. I applaud the people that are brave enough to stand up and try to bring about change. We are 100% behind you. Hang in there Lady Pioneers. This is your time!!
  5. I've read all the posts on this subject and I would like to say, I too am a fan, supporter, and parent of a player in the program. First, let me say that I think Ann is a very nice person and she obviously knows the game of basketball. But just knowing the game doesn't make you an effective coach. Earning the respect of the players, parents, and the community is part of it too. Right now, the program needs a change and just like any sport up to the NFL, you have to start with the coach. The AD is supposed to do what's best for WC sports and he is not doing that and should be replaced also. Whoever posted about the girls being at fault for the program's losses, obviously doesn't have or hasn't had a child play in the girls HS program. Ask the players and former players. WC has a great feeder program through the jaycees and the middle and county schools. Most every player, boys and girls teams, plays AAU basketball at the middle school and have been for several years. There are so many talented players that won't play in the HS program the way it is now. They have no chance for a scholarship in girls basketball and won't risk injury to play for nothing. There are also so many talented players that are playing jaycees ball instead of school ball. With the size of WCHS, we should be competetive with every school in our district. WC desperately needs to have some pride back in the basketball program but it will take change from the top. Go Pioneers!!!
  6. It will affect WC. They are playing the top team in the district without the starting center mid and a striker. I watched WC play in the pre-season tourn. and they played great even without the c. mid. They have a lot of talent on the team and they have to believe they can win the game. The coaches have to believe it too.
  7. It was a very physical game, but thats soccer. The center ref let it get out of control early in the game and waited until the last three minutes of the game to start trying to regain control. By then it was too late. When things were getting very rough at the end of the game, the referee should have not let the two teams come back together to shake hands at that point. The LA player had taken off his jersey and was wanting to fight. The coach had to literally hold him down. It was senior night and the band was a great idea. WC had more student support for that game than they have had in years.
