  1. I hate to tell you but I don't have a kid that plays baseball so you can rule that out and I'm not the jealous type. As for degree's you don't need one just a little baseball knowledge, which you evidently have none of other than what your husband, dad, or brother has told you. Talking about something crazy, experience does not make you a good coach period!! Just wondering how many degree's do you have? /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  2. I agree totally. I do not think Dylan was trying to run him over intentionally it just happened but that's the rule and the ump has to make the call. I believe Dylan was undecided on what to do and just made a mental error and did not slide. When he put his forearms up bracing himself for the collision it looked as if he was trying to run him over. As for the adults no reason for the name calling on either side. I commend you on telling the football players to stop the chanting that could have really got something going, I noticed they didn't stick around after you got on them. Every fan and parent needs to show class and say something when students start going overboard. The problem is like you said sometimes it's the parents.
  3. Congratulations to Coach Hart and the Central players for the big win. Tonight should be a game just to relax and play, don't get caught up in your emotions of trying to beat Meigs twice because it won't happen. Play hard and get ready for Region play! As for last nights game I said Polk had 2-3 weak spots and Central capitalized on them. The play at the plate with Coleman running over Qualls was a very bad call and it does not matter if he was up the line 3-4 feet he should have been ejected as the rule states. This could have changed the game but the call was not made and you have to go on. Polk did not deserve to win they made too many errors and their offense did not get the job done against Central's number 3-4 pitcher's. Let me say this about Polk, IMO Coach Triplett needs to learn from this season. Defense determines the outcome of games 90% of the time not offense. Defense is something that if you work on enough you can count on the players making the routine plays most every time. On offense you are most likely going to fail a minimum of 6-7 times out of 10 so why count on offense to win games, when the percentages says you are going to fail especially against good pitching. As a Coach you have to play players where they will help you the most and he did not. Errors cost them two games against Central and one against Sweetwater that is the difference in advancing to the region instead of watching. Congratulations to Polk on a great season you have nothing to be ashamed of. As for Tanner, Tyler, Josh, and Tracy I wish you the best of luck next year at Roane State and Ceveland State. You guys are wonderful and intelligent young men just remember baseball can be taken from you but an education will be with you forever. As for everyone else right now is the time to start working for next year. Get in the weight room, work on your weaknesses, go to a good D1 baseball camp, play somewhere this summer and probably the most important is to have fun while your doing it!
  4. I agree totally. However, I don't like it if they start name calling. Students can have a good time making funny comments and yelling out players numbers but don't get personal by calling the players names and saying "you su**" etc. that shows no class IMO. I don't think we will have a problem with the players they have played hard in all three games and have represented their schools very well. Everyone should be proud of the way they have handled themselves.
  5. Thats what the kids told the teacher in the planned parenthood class. LOL! It may be fun but it can cause you alot of trouble. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  6. If it starts like it did last night we could sell popcorn, cotton candy and sno-cones at that Circus. Tony needs to change the menu. I'm glad the game starts at 5:00.
  7. I predict Coleman for Central and Davis for Polk. As for the winner it will be a toss up. It will come down to errors and I'm afraid Polk's defense is more error prone than Centrals. One thing that will help, if Davis is pitching he won't be at third. Polk does not play aggressive defense their center fielder cost them a crucial run monday by not going after the fly ball to left center and as I have stated defense wins baseball games. Polk has three positions that at any given moment could blow up and cost them runs and Central has one or two as well. So my prediction is; If Tyler Davis has control of his pitches and hits his spots as he did the last time he pitched against Central, Polk will win. If he doesn't and Central puts the ball in play and makes Polk's defense work for outs Central will win. As for offense Polk and Central are about equal with one being no better than the other. Polk should have some confidence at the plate after last night and knowing that they will see a pitcher very comparable to Boyd's. This game will be very interesting and emotions will be running high. I hope both teams show the same intensity and class as they did in their previous three meetings. Good Luck Polk! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  8. IMHO I don't think they are that good of a hitting team. Meigs has 2-3 decent hitters but the rest are very average at best. Aderhold needs to pitch Howie way inside on his hands with his fastball or off the outside corner with breaking pitches and make him swing at pitches out of the strike zone from what I have seen he will bite for these pitches. Just don't miss over the plate and up where he can get his arms extended. Good luck! As for the Polk game. Polk will be facing Boyd's No. 3-4 pitcher surely you can out score their No. 3 or 4 pitcher . If it was me I would pitch Qualls and or Beard and save Phillips and Davis for the next game. Depending on how the game goes you could always bring him in relief. If you get by Boyd without using him you would have your #2 pitcher for Wednesday against Central or Meigs and they have not seen him this year. What a perfect scenario! /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  9. Butch & Sundance, Is Aderhold on the hill for Central? Roberts will be for Meigs. If you guys can get too him and make them go to their bullpen I think you will win. Roberts is due for a bad outing, you never know what will happen look at Lenoir City and Farragut I would have liked to have seen that one.
  10. Yes, Will is on the mound. What trash can? I couldn't see it for you two. LOL! /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  11. It's called Baseball. Anyone can win on any given day!
  12. Game one Tanner Davis made an error with 2 outs in the 5th which opened the door for 2 runs. In the 6th with runners on 1st and 2nd Centrals #9 hitter Moses bunted and Tyler Davis was playing too far back and could not get an out (bad coaching or mental error on Davis. In my mind its still an error on someone no excuse for it). Game two the fly ball by Hammonds was an error on Shaw, he drifted with the ball then dropped it when it hit his glove. It was a routine play sorry! As for leaving people on base what has that got to do with anything. Polk had runners on in both games as well but could not get them home.
  13. I think Meigs will try to get by Boyd on their number 3 & 4 pitcher. They will then have Garland and Roberts for the winner of Central and Polk. If I was Coach Baker this is how I would try and work it. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  14. Your exactly right those two errors killed them one was in the 5th and the other in the 6th. Central made a couple that opened the door for Polk at Central also. Today's games will be determined by who makes the routine plays. Polk must get their offense going and they need to score at least 4-5 runs to win.
  15. IMHO if Polk can put some runs up early they have a shot at winning the tournament. With Will Phillips back in the rotation Polk probably has the best pitching staff, but they have to make the routine plays and score some runs for this to happen.
  16. Allen had better start growing if he got any of yours, I know he didn't get his looks from you or his speed he is faster and better looking! LOL! /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" />
  17. Starr from Central had a high BA and I think he had 6 or 7 wins pitching but I don't know who he threw against or beat, which would have some bearing. If I had to choose Roberts would have to be my first pick.
  18. IMHO Matt Allen is the defensive MVP for Polk he plays everywhere in the infield including catcher and is solid at each one. He is a class act and plays his heart out every game and from what I hear he is one of the best young men you could ever meet.
  19. He hurt his hip while swinging a bat.
  20. Tyler is one of the two I was referring too I have to disagree on Howie. BTW it was a 5-4 vote.
  21. Phillips could be what Polk needs to put them over the top. If he pitches like he did yesterday he could make it tough for opposing teams hitters. If I am Coach Triplett. Bean would start Sat. against Central and Phillips will start against Meigs with Beard and Davis in relief. If Meigs and Central both win but I am sure they will. The only problem is Polk's offense had better improve against good pitching and help their pitchers out by scoring some runs early to give their pitchers some confidence.
  22. I think ND will win it with Marion 2nd. I think this winner will also win the region and they could even sweep the 5AA winners depending on who wins it.
  23. Tanner is a good player not a great player. He hit 4 HR not exactly smashing the ball by no means. I think he is a quality person, I wish him all the best at Roane State and congrats on the MVP honors!. I however say that there are 2 other players in the district that could have won the MVP, they pitch as well as play a position and have at least 7 wins apiece and have very high B.A's. Again I think this is where fielding statistics are critical. I know Polk does not even keep fielding stats, I feel these are as important as hitting and all coach's needs to keep these. I would rather have a player hit .300 and have a .900 fielding percentage as one with a .600 B.A. and a .600 F.P. especially in the infield. A good fielder will make up for his lack of offense by making smart decisions, good plays in the field and keeping runners off the bases. My rule of thumb; If you make all the routine plays you will win 90% of the games you play. Let me say this referring to 6+4+3=2's comments about BA's. Here is the problem Coach's will give player's hits on balls that were routine and I have seen this several times this year and I feel this is part of the reason the BA's are so high as well as the weak teams in the district. This should be the rule of thumb in deciding on what was a hit vs an error; if it should have been a routine play it's an error and it does not matter if the fielder touches it or not, if it would of been a great play its a hit. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
