  1. Outstanding coach with a true love of the game. He gets the most out of his kids at Cascade and with the Mudcats, his summer team. He can be a bit abrasive personality wise, but I can live with that. He does not get the support he needs from his administration-heck he doesn't even have lights on his field until next year and he funds his summer team without help from the school. His team won 30 games and made their first ever state tournament appearance and will keep the core group intact with some talented sophomores waiting their turn to contribute. Hard to believe that he has any trouble getting funding for baseball considering his success. Shelbyville made a big mistake not hiring him when they had the chance............
  2. Good call. A great addition to a great program. Coach Corbin continues to show why he is the top baseball coach at the collegiate level. This commitment and the kid that just commited from Redding Ca. insure a top notch 1-2 punch for 08 and 09.
  3. One team went home unhappy but both teams were winners in this game. Irvin and Lintz pitched their hearts out and both squads battled to the very last pitch. The home plate ump did a real fine job as did the filed guys. All in all this was one of the best high school games that I have ever seen and I have seen well over a thousand in my 52 years.
  4. The difference in this game will be that Lintz pitched nine innings in a 1-0 win over Bolivar Friday night. He was in the 115 pitch range and I seriously doubt that 3 and a half days rest is enough. Their number two, Stoltz is outstanding, but has a tendency to have control problems in stretches. I have not seen USJ but it would have been real interesting to see Lintz on five days rest. In any event, I think you are going to get a great ballgame. I agree with a previous poster that starting this tournament on Wed and ending on Sunday would be a more equitable way to determine the state champion.
  5. They are also beneficiaries of a very weak division this year, though one could argue that their strength makes everyone else look weak. They have a pretty good stafff, though after Stewart and Bowman there is a drop off. Chris Parker's work in the off season and the kids dedication to his program has been the key to their season. He will take on anyone at anytime and that lets his guys know that he believes in them. His approach instills confidence. It shows on the field in their approach to the game. No other 9-A school has sent as many kids on to the next level in recent seasons. He will one day very soon make a good fit for a larger school. Hey Riverdale, how do you guys like the work of Josh Horn?
  6. Stewart is a good high school pitcher but the looks he is getting from Corbin and Delmonico are for his play at shortstop. He will have to improve offensively to play at Vandy or Tennessee and will in all likelyhood choose to go to a baseball Juco like Walters State to keep from having to red-shirt. He will get immediate playing time that way and still have two years to play in the SEC. He was at the Vandy-Tenn game this weekend and saw three close games. Either school would be a good choice for him. He is a good kid from good family and would be an asset to either program.
  7. Community fans, parents and players care.
  8. Agreed. Ralston is very conservative and Spencer may be too fiery though Edmondson and Garrette received their share of tecnicals over the years. Unfortunately, I think the problem will be solved very soon. I hear that Spencer is the front runner for Tracy Farrells job as the girls coach at Cascade. Community will have to pull the trigger pretty quick and even then I think the Champs style is more to Chad's liking. If offered both, I think he would go to Cascade.
  9. The Champs do have some holes and the district is not as strong but Cascade plays a lot of games against top notch competition so that they are ready for post season. Coaching could well be the diferrence and Parker is an outstanding coach. His program just keep sending kids to the next level.
  10. You stated your case very well. I mentioned that Pope had a great job and would probably not be intrested in the Viking job. I don't know Charlie as well as you do but I think that he would be a great fit in any program if he was looking to build one from the floor up. Community does have some talent returning next year but not anything like Cascade has with Brandon Hall and the kid that runs the point for them. Spencer would be my first choice, but I don't think Ralston wants an in-your-face coach. It doesn't appear to fit his style. Garcia probably makes too much money at Webb to be tempted, but they are about to overload him out there with classes. He already coaches basketball and softball and more classes may tempt him to look elsewhere. It will be an intresting process. I hope Community takes their time and gets it right. The Edmondson ouster was a total disaster.
  11. Well we now know how this all turned out. There was a meeting alright, a secret closed door meeting that included public officials (ever hear of the Sunday laws?). Parents were told to show up without knowing what the meeting was about. Edmondson was not given the courtsey of an invitation and was promptly butchered by a few select parents that aired their greivances, some of which went back 10 years or more! Anyone that thinks that we have taught our youth anything positive from this debacle please stand up and be counted. Shame on Ed Gray and Amy Martin for facillitating such an outrageous assault on this man's basic right to self defense. Twenty years down the drain just like that. Fair minded people need to remember this when the next school board elections roll around. I know I will.
  12. That would be him. Good coach, excellent tactician.
  13. Tony Garrette resigned for personal reasons. He has two young sons that he wanted to be home more with. He coached for 17 of his 18 years teaching and just felt that he would devote more of his time with his family. He retains his job as the athletic director so he will still be involved. The Insell disciple coached both the boys and girls teams at Liberty Middle School where he won a combined 120 games or so against 40 or so losses the last few years running basically the same scheme that Insell installed at Shelbyville and now at MTSU. He may however be to intense for Community if there is such a thing.
  14. Unionville is a rabid sports community and are very deserving of a winning program. The alumni has become more demanding in this area and to a point rightfully so. There are several local coaches that would be an excellent fit, Charlie Pope, Chad Spencer, Robert West and James Garcia come immediately to mind. West would have to volunteer, but he is an excellent tactician and the teams he coaches are well disciplined and prepared for their opponent. Pope has a great job already, but he played for Edmondson and the two remain close and it would be a fairly easy transition for him. Spencer is one of the most successful middle school coaches in the mid-state and is an Insell disciple. He has sent several kids on to Shelbyville that started as freshmen. I am not sure if any have shown intrest or have been approached.
