  1. I love your idea! However, I doubt it will ever pass...especially since the pros always go to PKs. Think about it...2 of the last 4 World Cups have been decided by PKs. This year's Champions League Final was decided by PKs. PKs are the reason my wife complains about soccer. She claims that all big games come down to luck (PKs). I would rather do it like basketball...still tied...keep going....still tied after 120 minutes...go some more. I doubt TSAA will ever go for removing players, but I agree with you, it is TERRIBLE to decide a game on PKs.
  2. Diego Del Castio (Oak Ridge) is going to College of Charleston, I believe.
  3. Catholic would not dominate in AAA; however, this year's Catholic team could have made a legitimate run. I could have seen them getting as far as Oak Ridge...maybe final eight, possibly final four. I think it would vary from year to year. This year's Catholic team could have done VERY well in AAA. The only two AAA teams that I saw that were better than Catholic in AAA were West and Farragut.

    Big Ones

That's hilarious. I know if I had picked over 50, I would be one of the worst!
  5. Very interesting! What time is the game Thursday...and where?
  6. I know I sound like a broken record, but is Tarr playing in this one?
  7. You're right, but I entitled it All-East TN because I was actually curious about kids from other areas of the East.
  8. I personally had a very hard time getting out of K-town; that is why I asked for help.
  9. I agree that Gibson is outstanding. I have been very elaborate with how great of a player I think he is.

I agree with you on your comment about Compton. He is one of the best refs in the area. He always does an outstading job.

I wouldn't call MHS's offense "futile", and Maryville played up a man for a total of about 4 minutes. Moreover, I think it is kind of ridiculous to questions someone's "athletic character" if they wouldn't tackle another player to save a goal. A great deal of competitive players would try to slide and get the ball, rather than clip him. I would encourage a player to do EVERYTHING he could do to prevent a breakaway goal, but I would never encourage him to blatantly tackle another player, especially since the offense merits a two game suspension--and Farragut DEFINITELY needs Muth against West. Muth will sit out for the most important game of his career because of what he did. I wonder what his teammates think. I am willing to bet that a number of them are a little perturbed with Muth's decision. For every high five he received after his card, there were equally as many players who looked a little stunned. I will, however, agree with you that the foul did not cause Maryville to lose. Farragut outplayed them, and they were no doubt "relentless." One more question...anyone...Did Farragut score their first goal, (on the first night), off of a set piece? I still have not found the answer to this question.
  12. All in good fun... Since the season is closing, I thought it might be fun to name an All-East TN team... Of course I haven't seen all of the players, but here is my best shot: All-East TN POY: Cody McCoy (West)...Most consistent player in the East, even though he complains to the refs too much /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Coach of the Year: Tom Gorman (Alcoa)...Alcoa was a joke until he got there. Look at them now. 1st Team: 1.) Ridge Carter (Maryville)...very close second to C.M. for my POY, best athlete in the area 2.) Jake Holt (Farragut)...best first touch in the area, highest soccer I.Q. 3.) Tyler Gibson (Catholic)...makes everyone around him better 4.) Aaron Shonefield (Bearden)...great in the air and a physical force 5.) Diego (?) (Oak Ridge)...quick and great one vs. one abilities 6.) Baylor's #10 (Baylor)...controls the middle of the pitch, great size and tenacious 7.) Joseph Muth (Farragut)...solid defender, instinctive 8.) T.C. (?) (Morristown West)...creative, yet paradoxically simple 9.) Ricardo (?) (Catholic)...one of the best forwards in the area 10.) Dan V. (Baylor)...always consistent 11.) Tom Webster (Bearden)...great one vs. one abilities, good shot 2nd Team: 1.) Cat (West)...great pace and instinct 2.) Travis Bolton (Farragut)...tricky up top 3.) Alcoa's #10 (Alcoa)...great one vs. one abilities 4.) Brandon Tarr (CAK)...plagued by injury and indecision 5.) Brian Beckham (Catholic)...great shot 6.) David Large (Maryville)...outstanding left foot 7.) Sevier Co.'s #2 (Seveir Co.)...I am not positive that this is his #, but he plays up top)...good pace and toughness 8.) Drew Hemeter (Farragut)...instinctive and calm in the back 9.) Tanner Thompson (West)...THROW 10.) Baylor's #2 (Baylor)...creative and good one vs. one abilities 11.) Patrick Deloney (West)...willing to be supportive to McCoy and Nathaniel Honorable Mention: 1.) Jack McCoy (West)...outstaning freshman talent 2.) "Dielenzo" (Lenoir City)...I know I spelled his name wrong...the LC guys know who I am talking about. 3.) Maryville's #9...defender (?) (Maryville)...physical defender 4.) Sam Thompson (Alcoa)...physical and athletic 5.) Alex Hutchins (Webb)...good feet, good shot Thoughts? I know I missed a bunch.

Foul was not in the box...not even close. I do, however, agree that it was cheap...but again, the game permits a cheap foul like that. I really am torn on this one. I, like you, would have been upset if we won like that, but I can't say that I would have reacted differently if the district title was on the line.
  14. Yeah, that's a good point.
  15. From the East, some players that deserve consideration: 1.) Cody McCoy (West) 2.) Ridge Carter (Maryville) 3.) Aaron Shonefield (Bearden) All of these players are absolute game changers and play their best soccer in big games.

This was a decent game to watch. Both teams had their chances, but Farragut had the run of play. I could be mistaken (because I didn't get to see the first 20 minutes last night), but I think every single goal came off of a set piece. Both Farragut and Maryville are outstanding on their set plays. Maryville tied the game in the second half with about 15 minutes to go. After that, Farragut out possessed Maryville for the remainder of the half and all of overtime. In fact, Maryville had a difficult time even clearing it out of their own third. I think Maryville's come from behind effort exhausted them, and ultimately, Farragut was able to keep their guys fresher with bigger bench numbers. However, Maryville did have their chances, especially in the second half. Ridge Carter had a break away in the second half, only to get pulled down by Joseph Muth. He was rewarded a direct kick right outside of the box, which he placed perfectly in the right hand upper 90 of the net. Overtime was very similar, Farragut outplayed Maryville, but Maryville had a golden chance when Carter broke through again. This time, (as G already alluded to), Muth literally tackled Carter from behind for an egregious, yet game saving "professional foul." The Maryville fans were screaming PK, but from where I was standing, I believe that he was just outside of the box. Farragut ended up playing the last few minutes of the second overtime a man down, and moments after the red card, they scored off an outstanding corner. It was a great effort by both sides, and it was a shame that one team came out on top. Side notes: 1.) Jake Holt's absence was evident. Where was he? 2.) I think that Carter deserved a PK. It is a shame that the rules do not reward a PK for a foul like that. I am not sure how I feel about what Muth did, but I guess if the rules permit that type of a foul, then he was indeed a game saver. 3.) Most importantly, my prayers go out to Josh Ridner and the rest of the Farragut team for their loss.
  17. I disagree with everyone on this. If West and Farragut play, (and that is a huge if), I think West will beat Farragut. I say that West and Maryville come out of the region if Maryville loses the District finals to Farragut. I really do think Maryville will still come out on top over Farragut tomorrow, despite the fact that Farragut is up 1-0 right now. Glad I get to go see this now. Bad weather sometimes works out great!
  18. Assuming that what G said is true, and Tarr is not playing, I am going to go with Catholic 2-0. (If Tarr is cleared to play, I still think Catholic will take this one). With the exception of CBHS, Catholic is the most talented team that I've seen this year. There are very few weaknesses to their side. In the back, they are extremely disciplined. In the middle of the field, they play quickly and one touch, and they can absolutely demoralize a team with their forwards. I think the hardest thing about playing Catholic is deciding which player to try and shut down. The obvious answer would be Ricardo, as he has outstanding quickness and is a natural forward. But then Catholic's midfield has the ability to keep you honest as well. Beckham has a nice shot, and he is big and crafty, yet the player that impresses me the most for Catholic is #8...(I am not sure what his name is, and I am not positive that he is #8). He plays in the middle of the pitch, and he is very good at controlling the tempo of the game. He is quite small, but he makes up for his lack of size with feisty defensive pressure. Furthermore, he has an outstanding first touch, and he only takes more than one touch when it is necessary. His selflessness makes everyone around him better, and he is constantly setting up Catholic's talented forwards. CAK, conversely, lacks the large plethora of offensive weapons that Catholic has. They are younger and less physical, but they still do an outstanding job at moving the ball. Should Tarr be given the green light, the score should be closer than it would be with his absence. I think CAK is kind of accepting a rebuilding and underdog role this year. Hey, who wouldn't love to be rebuilding and still be one of the top AA/A teams in the state? Catholic 2, CAK 0
  19. I guess I am going to go with the upset here...Well, it might not really be an upset. I have seen both teams play twice this year, and I think Maryville has the edge. Maryville's play is passionate and purposeful, and I don't recall that they have ever been this far before. On the other hand, this game probably means less to Farragut, as they have consitently played in this game year after year. Farragut is looking at the big picture (state finals), while Maryille most likely has smaller goals (district champions). More importantly, Maryville is playing a pretty attractive brand of soccer right now. When they are on their game, they have outstanding combination play in the middle of the pitch, and they are willing to possess until an opposing defender gets anxious or space opens up. Furthermore, Maryville will likely have the best athlete on the field Friday night--Ridge Carter. He has outstanding pace, and he poses all sorts of problems for opposing teams because he is not just being played in the middle. Maryville is moving him around like he is a pawn, hoping to expose and overwhelm the other side's weaknesses. Conversely, Farragut does not have a game changer. Jake Holt is an outstanding player with a very high soccer I.Q., but he lacks the speed and tenacity to be brilliant. The player that might hurt Maryville the most is Travis Bolton, who does have good pace and possesses decent one vs. one abilities. However, Farragut is an extremely talented team, and they have a great winning tradition. The name on their jersey is worth at least one goal, maybe two. In the end, I still think this is Maryville's night. Best to both teams! Maryville 2, Farragut 1
  20. That can't be the score. Bearden and Maryville don't play until tomorrow.
