1. I thought this was an IMAC post?!?! Greeneville is no longer part of the IMAC. Greeneville is a good football team! But one team does not make a conference strong! Good Luck to you the rest of the year, but I would like to hear mainly from the IMAC teams on this post! The Jeff / Sevier Co game should be a good one! A lot is on the line this early in the season in this one! Would like to see this game in week 9 or 10! These are the only 2 6A teams in this conference. The IMAC is playing good competition out of conference for the most part... SC has DB coming up, Jeff played Greeneville & Bearden, Seymour played Daniel Boone & CAK (if you saw them on tv, they looked really good), Cherokee even played Boone tonight, Mo West played AE, Mo East played Fulton & Anderson Co. The IMAC has faced some really good teams early this season! Don't pass judgement on these teams just yet. This is only going to make it a tougher conference the rest of the year!
2. I agree SCBear, it did get kinda sloppy. Sevier Co should have and easily could have won this game by 50. This is a down year for the normally solid & tough Halls Red Devils. Thru the whole game, even with 2nd & 3rd string in, Halls only had 41 total yards, ouch! One of Halls ealier posts questioned Halls playing SC, this has become a rivalry that I think both teams have enjoyed in the past! The year SC won the State, they lost to a good solid Red Devils team early on. By playing good competition, you get better! Halls, SC, and WB all have good traditions! Just a down year for WB & Halls...WB did bounce back tonight against Karns. I wish the Red Devils best of Luck the rest of the year! They will be back! They have a real good feeder system in their youth leagues (Teddy Williams team's come to mind!). SC dropped a TD pass on 1st drive, then after up by 24, the refs started finding their yellow hanky. Some calls were a little questionable, the interfence on Gilly (should have been a no call), it seemed the refs were not going to let this get too ugly, but Brewer has never run the score up on anyone. It just cost the 2nd & 3rd string minutes on the field. Pick-6 was called back, off-sides on KO, I think 3 times, but when Halls was off-sides on KO staring 2nd half by more than 2 yards, ref reached for hanky then let it go. I just saw things a little diferent than the refs. I think SC is a Good Solid team this year! Better than I expected!! The D is flying around with everyone involved! Once the O gets consistent, tha Bears will be hard to handle! Dakota & Bubba looked good & strong running the ball, & Danny took care of the offense & the ball, except for the punt return. I am curious to see how we will stack up against better competition! The Conference Season starts next week & whoever wins that game is in the driver's seat between SC & Jeff! GO SMOKY BEARS!!
3. You are the Original! With my son now at Maryville College...I won't be posting as much. Still have to follow the boys he has grown up with though! I am sort of a mixed breed also, played football & baseball at Seymour (thru 86) then baseball at MC (thru 92). Now live in Seymour, but Austin went to Sevier Co, so we turned Purple. We did make it till 2 minutes to go & the rain...WB's Owens made a couple of nice plays, not just theTD throw. Smoky Bears did look SHARP! Go Smoky Bears!!
4. I am planning on being there too! Go Smoky Bears!!
5. The Composites being banned now is mainly what I was looking at. Stores are still selling them & they are useless. There has been no news release or advertising stating this new change for this year. Most places say NOT NCAA APPROVED, but nothing that High Schools have banned them also. TSSAA said they were not changing till next year, but now this release says this year. A lot of players are going to have to find new bats this year....It just seems like another big money maker to NOT advertise & help the bat companies get rid of their useless comps. My son is starting college so we don't have to deal with it, but we gave his comp to my nephew who will be a HS senior so the bat would get more than 1 year usage. Now it seems that he won't get to use it this year. Needs to be more notice or a trade in option, the bats were approved originally. Just my thoughts on this.
6. It does not seem right for all this to be going on while the bat companies are still selling their comps which are now USELESS. They should all be pulled off the rack of stores by the manufacturers. For all those that are not in the "know" that are buying bats for next year, $300 to $400 is going to be wasted on a useless bat. Most organizations follow HS rules, so ALL comps will be illegal, summer & HS ball both. For those that purchased a bat last year with the expectations of TSSAA not applying a bat rule until 2011/12, they wasted their money on a one year bat! I called TSSAA last year & asked about when the rule change would go into effect and was told 2011/2012. It seems that there should be some regulation on how fast rules can go into affect. This would protect all wanting to purchase equipment. There also should be more PRESS RELEASES on the changes if they are going to be enforced this year! I am all for safety, but this is going to make some people a lot of money. Just is not right in my opinion!!
7. Binns, I understand your frustration, but I also see Sportsfan opinion a lot clearer! When my son first started HS, we would only have a crowd of about 30. This was AAA baseball. Some nights were even worse if the competition was not in district. The Price was $4 adult and $2 student. We would not make $100 at the gate. The price for 2 Umps was $130. We did not have a JV at that time. We were in the hole $30 each night. The school asked the boosters to make up the difference, which the boosters didn't have it either. $20 a game increase is way too much for schools to handle on the lower end. I know umping is a unappreciated job. I have disagreed many times & voiced my opinion loudly to the umps. I know for the most part, most umps take their job serious and do their best. They are going to miss calls, they are human, they are also going to get calls right that the fans disagree with. The umps that don't know the rules or do not hustle to position are the ones that you tend to remember though. I know that with gas prices, they would think a raise would be in order, but on the other side, schools are getting less money for gate & booster functions b/c of the economy also. In this age of cutting back, I have to agree that TSSAA needs to look at this increase closely! $5 a game I can see, $20 a game, no way. Just my opinion.
8. Here is Sevier County's 2010 Baseball Signees Michael Farragut 2B/SS King College Charlie Fields CF/C King College Brandon Houser LHP King College Austin Solomon 1B Maryville College Cody Clabo 1B Berea College Josh White OF Berea College Zach Flynn is still undecided, TN Tech, ETSU, Carson Newman, King among suitors Congrats to all & GO SMOKY BEARS!!!!
9. Iknowbetter, Good Luck to Pigeon Forge! Most of them have a lot more class than you!! I have quite a few friends there also. From your post, you are not one! I hope Brett, Hayden, Trevor, and TJ have great games tonight!!! Hope you guys make STATE!!
10. 5/17/10 David Crockett 7 Sevier Co 5 9 innings Freeman only lasted 3 2/3, Marti camin for DC and threw really well! Bears had chances to win! Just wasn't our night!
11. There is some truth to your above statements. Coach Traywick did indeed inquire about the Jeff Co job, BUT not for himself or anyone on his staff. He was approached by another coach that he is good friends with that wanted to know details. I will not mention that coach out of respect for him & his program. Coach Traywick has many benefits at SCHS, the indoor facility compares to major colleges, the playing field is one of the best around, if he needs things done, they get done!, there is a strong pipeline of talent starting to flow into the program, last year's Seniors laid the foundation, this years Seniors built the "House". There are very few programs in the area that have what SCHS offers. If he decided to leave, we would wish him the Best, but would tell him it would be a mistake, I have personally told him this last year! When you have a turn around in a program like what has happened at SCHS, there will always be rumors and suitors! It just shows that people want what you have!!! As far as the trash talking that has started, seems to be between Jeff Co fans & Sevier Co fans, it needs to stop! Jeff played us close 2 games this year, we were fortunate enough to be 3-0 against them. They have a Good Ball club that pused us very hard & I wish them the Best! This is a PUBLIC Forum and is no place to call out players that are under 18 and trash them! Players from rivals are always going to talk, but keep it on the field! I respect both players wanting to win so bad that emotions ran high. That is the difference between a starter and someone on the bench, they care, heart and soul! This forum was made to discuss what is going on, like, like it or not...the all district team, what is going on with the team (not trashing the Coaches or players), schedules, questions, etc..... If someone thinks I went to far in discussing the All District Team, I apologize, but If you were in SC's shoes, would you not feel the same? I am open about who I am, Just look at my screen name, Solo-mon 2, my son plays for SCHS & is a Senior & the 1B. I know most of Seymour and quite a few of SD players & parents, along with a few from Jeff. I have coached or coached against a lot of them on their way up! It's fun to want to beat someone that you played with or against for so many years, just don't cross the line to trash them! I have really enjoyed the new Rivalries that have come about in the IMAC this year! (Mo West & East, Cherokee & Cocke Co (if they keep Chrisman (SP?) look for good things!)) If there were no emotions in games, they would not be very fun to watch! I RESPECT every team and wish all of you all the Best & Injury free seasons next year! Just please keep these forums clean from trashing each other!
12. It would be nice to have the same format for all district tourneys as well. Some have single elimination play in games, some run a true double elimination tourney, and others run pool play. I am not a fan of pool play at all. I would prefer a true tourney. This way everyone going into regions would have the path to get there.
13. One of your parents or fans pointed out JC players....I just went with what he said. I said earlier that I thought we had 3 overlooked, NOT INCLUDING MY SON!!!! He did not have the year he had last year but was still very vital for our team!!! I have not taken shots at your team, though I know 1 of your players very well and don't understand why he was treated the way he was this year! Point your finger at Sunshine. Also reread my earlier post at the start. Even though you wish us bad luck, I still wish you the Best of Luck! I hope you can keep your season going as long as it can. After the last game, it's not a fun time for any of the Seniors and their parents!
14. Maybe the other coaches didn't think those SC players were as good as others in the league. I realize that SC won the championship but maybe SC just had solid players from top to bottom with only 3 or 4 that really stood out. That Flynn kid is a no-brainer.....and personally, I thought Seymour had the most talented athletes in the league. SC folks should be basking in the glory of a championship and not whining about the all-district team, because in the end that championship year is what people will remember! We are enjoying the Championships!! I am not whining....just pointing out a fact. Your Patriots got HOT in the Tourney, but the selections were chosen based on their 6-8 record in the season, the vote was last week before the tourney. Right is right, wrong is wrong. Like I said in an earlier post, NO RESPECT for SC. Everyone picked us to get beat and not even contend in the tourney including you sunshine. It is just a shame that the selections couldn't be settled on the field, like the Championships were. By the way, SC has 5 already committed with colleges & 2 others exploring their options & offers. Farragut (SS), Fields (CF) with King College, Solomon (1B) with Maryville College, Clabo (1B) & White (OF) with Berea College.....Houser & Flynn are both still being recruited & have not made up their minds yet.
15. Coach Traywick is originally from Alabama. He has ties to Sevier Co, this is where his wife is from. As far as leaving, He already has had the opportunity & passed last year. Who knows what the future holds, but he has built a program. We have very talented underclassmen coming up and there is a solid youth movement in SC baseball with travel teams forming. The pipeline is there for quite a few years to come. In 5 years as the Smoky Bear Coach, he is sitting on 99 wins. Pretty Impressive whether you like him or not!! As far as the other players on the All District Team, I did not say anything about them. It is just a shame that the team that wins the Regular Season Title & the Tournament doesn't have the talent to have more than 3 players selected!! What a slap at SC!! If the other teams were so much more talented than SC, they should have won the Championships!! So what happened?!? Like I said before, You can Wish all you want, but Sevier Co took care of business on the field!!!! We had one of the best pitchers in the district and hit .350, and 2 players that hit over .400 with one being a key pitcher also that did not make the team.
16. I hope I was not misunderstood, I think SC Coach is a good coach, but i have seen ALOT of baseball most of which was in GA and AL. Coaches like him are either loved(mostly by his parents/team/fans) or hated (people who want him as their coach). Having said that, I like our coach, but he could use a little more fire. No misunderstanding! I knew where your were coming from! Thanks for you understanding my original post!
17. I was told that when the coaches met last week, they wanted 25 names from each coach, that was it. They did not want awards for pitcher of year, MVPs, offensive, defensive, Soph, Freshman, or Coach of the year. SC's coach talked them into at least MVPs (Flynn & Kirkland) and pitcher (not sure), but that was it. SC's 3rd selection came down to 4 players for the last 2 spots & was debated. Coach Traywick also asked the conference coaches to allow him to buy plaques for all the all district players out of the gate money, even though we only had 3, and the coaches said no. Only certificates were given out. I understand opinions about Coach Traywick...fine line between Cocky & Confident. If he is your coach, you like him, if not, you don't. Anyone that has been around any kind of ball can relate to this kind of personality. He is a competitor, and it rubs off on the team! Davy Crockett beat Science Hill 8-4 last night...deciding game tonight
18. Zach Flynn from Sevier Co hit his 14 & 15 HR last night.
19. 5/12/10 Sevier Co 13 Jeff Co 6 Sevier Co wins both Regular season and District Tournament Championships!!!!!! PURPLE REIGNS THE IMAC!!!!!! Now, I've been holding my tongue on this since last week....... All District selections......what a slap in the face!!!!! Sevier Co only got 3 selections and 1 had to be debated on.....let me just give you a breakdown.... Seymour had 5 selections, Sevier Co was 2-0 against them & they finished 3rd in their pool in the tourney Jeff Co had 4 selections, Sevier Co was 3-0 against them, even when everyone said they were the best team, SC still took a 3 game sweep this year Mo East had 4 selections, Sevier Co was 3-1 against them, taking 2 games in the tourney from them Mo West had 4 selections, Sevier Co was 1-1 against them, they did not get out of the Pool they were in, but they did play very well in that Pool! South Doyle had 3 selections, Sevier Co was 1-1 against them, they were in our pool but could not get by ME so we never faced them in the tourney Cherokee & Cocke CO had 1 selection each, SC was 2-0 against both of them Let's add this up Sevier Co 15-3 against the IMAC, but we were the 3rd least talented team in the district. It just don't add up!!! You can say we were LUCKY, we played teams at times they were not playing well...We played Jeff to clinch the regular season at their place when they were supposed to be the HOTTEST team in the district and WON! We Swept a HOT Seymour Team! Look what we did in the District Tourney....4-0!!!! And before anyone thinks this is about me & my son, it is not! We had 3 other players deserving the all district honors and this does NOT include my son!! There has been NO RESPECT for Sevier Co from any of the IMAC teams & this selection proves my point! NO MATTER WHAT YOU WISH HAD HAPPENED, THE SMOKY BEARS ARE THE BEST TEAM IN THE IMAC!!! Heck, in boys sports, let's see.... Sevier Co Football District Champs, Sevier Co Basketball District Champs, Sevier Co Soccer District Champs.......it looks like the IMAC's favorite color is PURPLE!!!! GOOD LUCK TO JEFF CO PATRIOTS NEXT WEEK!
20. 5/11/10 Sevier Co 11 Mo East 8, Sevier Co wins Pool A Mo West beat Jeff Co 1st game score ? They are playing the 2nd game now. The winner of it will face Sevier Co @ SCHS Wed @ 6:00pm for the Tournament Championship.
21. Sorry guys, I've been away from a computer this weekend.... Friday Sevier Co 6 Cocke Co 5 I heard that Cocke Co's Coach was just named Interim Head Coach, This is the best team that Cocke Co has put on the field against SC in 4 years! They played South Doyle a lot closer too, it was 4-3 going into the bottom of the 6th. CC really needs to keep this guy! Sat Sevier Co 11 Mo East 8 As MiKees said here is how our bracket looks... Mon S-D vs ME 5:30pm Tues winner above vs Sevier Co 5:30pm, 2nd game if necessary @ 8:00pm Wed Pool 1 winner vs Pool 2 winner @ SCHS
22. Congrats to Seymour!!! I know a lot of your players and have watched them grow up! I am proud of what they have become! Way to keep the IMAC in the county!!!
23. The play your are referring to was a JC player being thrown out at the plate trying to tag up after a fly to center. The runner slid past home, and in my opinion was tagged then, but the ump didn't call anything and SC's catcher dove back onto the runner for the tag. The JC runner jumped up pushing, and the SC catcher jumped up pushing. No player was ejected from the game. They were both pulled from the game by their coaches. This all happened in the bottom of the 7th & would have give JC the win. The throw beat the runner to the plate by at least 5 feet. As far as coaches, both were confined to the dugout, BOTH SC and JC Head Coaches. Neither were ejected. There will be no penalties for either team. This was a very exciting game! Emotions were running high! This is IMAC Baseball!
24. 5/4/10 Sevier Co 9 Jeff Co 8 in 8 innings Sevier Co Clinches outright Regular Season District Champs & #1 SEED with win!
25. I stand corrected....After I read the earlier post I talked with Coach Traywick. He did not think it was definite on the bracket yet, but it appears that way. As I stated earlier, I do not like pool play, not fair to 4&5 seeds as stated earlier..... SC can still end up the 2nd seed but would be Co Champs with MW in one scenario....... SC & MW win SC 11-3 MW 10-4 ME 9-5 Sey 8-6 (Sey has tie breaker over SD) SC & Sey win SC 11-3 Sey 9-5 MW 9-5 ME 9-5 JC & MW win MW 10-4 SC 10-4 ME 9-5 SEY 8-6 JC & Sey win SC 10-4 SEY 9-5 MW 9-5 ME 9-5
