  1. My position was on the corner looking right up the end line toward the goal. I am absolutely certain the ball did not go out - I don't know how else to say it. The ref was 10 yards up the side line behind the play....I don't expect them to keep up as someone else stated. I just think if you don't know in that position you simply don't make the call. I'm sure refs at this level (state tourney) are highly qualified so I would assume he's a fantastic ref. However, he made the same call up the sideline where the ball didn't completely cross the line - I'm sure an OR player could attest to this as it was right in front of their bench. Now...I will concede if the rule states that if a player's foot is touching the ground beyond the line and touches the ball that it is considered out - I've not heard that but if it is the case then possibly the Hville player, while kicking at an angle to cross the ball back touched his foot beyond the end line and as he kicked the ball. Still would've been as assumption based on refs position but let me know if this is a rule. Bottomline here: he made the call and it is over either way. The guy is not perfect and I'm sure there's a lot of pressure on those guys. Other than those two calls, he called a good game - correct on an offsides goal, etc. I don't see how you all do it with all the crazy parents yelling at you all the time. My hats off to you.
  2. I'm not here to argue but your case is weak. I was as close to the field as one could possibly be. The ball was 10 to 15 yards in front of me so I had a much better view than the ref. I do not have my license, nor do I claim to know better than the refs - but I have seen a great deal of soccer and I do know the rule about a ball being out. It was kicked prior to going out and it was kicked at a backward angle so the answer to your question is "no" the ball did not go out in the air. Let's assume it did...the official guessed either way. I happen to think they do a good job for the most part. I'm not even saying that this call cost Hville the game - if you read my earlier post I said OR got the goal, did their job and Hville failed to score. I'm just giving you my perspective on the goal and the call. It was a missed call - its that simple. All refs have missed calls. This one was a missed call whether I have my license or not.
  3. I really think this will be a reality check for OR. If they play twice as good as they played yesterday, they'll still get beat by 2 goals. From what I saw, they are not very impressive and if Houston plays it wide then I don't think OR's keeper will be able to adjust to crossing the ball and the traffic in front. He was out of position on at least 3 shots on goal in yesterday's game and Hville strikers simply missed the mark. He's lucky in that regard. If Houston strikers are accurately hitting the frame, this will get ugly.
  4. The ball was played long down the right side of the field about 12 yards to the right side of the goal. The Hville player caught up to it and just before it crossed the end line (which would've constituted an OR goal kick) the player kicked it toward the goal, went over the goalies head and another Hville player put it completed in the goal hitting back net. The call in question was whether or not the ball first crossed the end line before the Hville player crossed it. I am absoutely positive it did not cross it. The side ref was out of position as another poster stated. He was at least 10 yards behind the ball so when the player crossed it, there would be no way he could've even seen it because the player would've blocked his view. I had a clear look at it and not even half of the ball crossed the end line.
  5. I was actually at the corner, near the restroom pavilion and had the best look at the ball. The ball clearly did not cross the end line. The Hville player got a foot on it prior to it fully crossing. This was a legit goal that was unfortunately taken away. The ref on that side made a few questionable calls with regard to balls crossing. OR was taking the ball up and the ball, once again, did not cross the sideline in this case - only half of the ball was out and he called it out right in front of the OR bench. They challenged it through complaining but to no success obviously. Hville had several opportunities to put this game out of reach but could not do it. OR was on their heels over a majority of the game. Either way, OR got a good goal and that's all that matters in this game. Congrats to both teams.
  6. If history is any indication, Hville will have a tough time managing a 4-0 win. They only had two 4 point victories this year, and both against weaker teams so unless the game simply gets out of hand I don't see that happening. OR has had some good wins and at this stage it gets really difficult to put up a lot of points because each team spends the first half sizing up the other. OR's D has really played well of late if there scores are any indication, I've not had the opportunity to see them play this year. I've been impressed with Hville's D this year, they play strong to the ball and few teams get a good shot on goal. With that, I'll go with Hendersonville 2-1.
  7. Maybe I'm simply missing something but I don't see this as a lock for Houston at all. Both teams have some quality wins on their schedules but several of Houston's wins are against teams that have miserable won/loss records. They just don't seem to have had much of a challenging schedule and that can hurt at this stage. Riverdale has not played the best of schedules either but I see this as a fairly evenly matched game...one goal difference either way.
  8. Houston Hendersonville Brentwood Cleveland Riverdale ? ? ?
  9. The shot was on frame, but Hville's keeper made a great save and then the defense cleared it. A missed opportunity that would've tied the game. Hville's defense played exceptionally well only allowing 2 shots on goal. A good win for their coach.
  10. Hendersonville won 1-0 off a corner kick in second period.
  11. Yes...on paper Brentwood should win but both teams are playing well right now. If Lavergne can get an early goal, it will make things interesting. Brentwood can definitely get beat and it is this type of game that sneaks up on you. Its hard to pick against Brentwood on this one but it should be close.
  12. We'll certainly have to wait and see and it should be a great game. However, the strength of schedule comment is not a gut feeling...it is a fact. If you look at both team's schedules throughout the year, Hville's is far more competitive...look outside of district play. The winning percentage of both teams' opponents are 69% (Hville) to 54% (Independence). Again, it is anybody's game but I did want to defend the schedule comment.
  13. Both teams are playing well right now. Hville has the advantage of a stronger schedule and a home game. Both defenses are strong...will come down to which team clicks on offense. Hendersonville 2-1.
  14. Independence plays at Hendersonville on Saturday at 7PM.
  15. Did Jacobs play in this game?
  16. Hendersonville 4 Lavergne 3 OT
  17. I think you have to go with Brentwood here. They've demonstrated a solid year of play and two victories over Independence, with two shutouts. I think Independence will have a tough time scoring. Brentwood 4-0.
  18. I'm not sure it is accurate to challenge Hville's schedule. In all fairness, they scheduled a slew of top notch teams this year but the outcomes were impeded by the weather. Knox Cath - won CAK - Tied Bearden - Got ripped Father Ryan - Tied Houston - Rained Out Collierville - Rained Out Two top Georgia Team - lost both Brentwood - narrow loss However, of late, Hville is correct in saying that they have been playing much better. Are they state-worthy? Only time will tell but the fact remains that they've played one of the toughest schedules in the state. And it seems to be paying off.
  19. Well obviously anyone has a chance at this level in any game. On paper Hville should win - undefeated at home this year and another home game for them. A win has them hosting sectionals as well I think so a lot to play for. Hville seems to have figured out some ways to score recently so if their D plays as well as they have been, it should be a win for them. Lavergne is very talented up top and can score as they've demonstrated this year. They've had a tough time against the Hville D so they'll need to figure that out to pull it off.

  21. I would agree. Maybe the Bearden tournament aerated it because it was a mess due to all the rain they experienced. It seemed to have a lot of sand or dirt on it though as well so maybe they were in the process of growing grass.
  22. I just can't see Alcoa pulling off this one. CAK is "down" this year only based on their history. However, their losses were against some very good teams and they won the games that should be locks for them. Alcoa has struggled to score against really good teams. CAK should win this with a good defensive effort 3-0.

With the caveat in place of "anything can happen on any given night", I would say that on paper District 9 should fare better, however Dickson County I've not seen play this year so that game is up in the air for me. My guess is: Hendersonville 3 Rossview 1 Lavergne 2 Dickson County 1 (in OT)
  24. I dug up the following from another post - I thought I remembered seeing something about it. The poster is addressing a question "how did JPII lose to Father Ryan?" They were lacking a large chunk of their scoring punch. In the previous game while the were up by 3 goals, near the end of the game Will Maddox dissented over a throw-in near half line in front of all spectators. He addressed his dissent LOUDLY, focused not on the call, but directed at the referee. He had been cautioned earlier in the game, so it was his second caution. He will also have to set out this next game per TSSAA's rules regarding an ejected player. The "set out this game" was the McCallie game is my understanding so he'll be back for CB. Yes, should be a great game to see.
