  1. Yes - but we are talking about 5 of those schools being in the top 10 programs statewide easily. I'd watch BA vs. MBA every single time it was shown. And my kids go to public schools! ESPN doesn't have a problem with it. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  2. I believe that as soon as there is a full on split forced upon all the privates, there will be a split. And that will happen with the next class re-org - as DL, Goodpasture, CPA, DCA, Friendship, etc. continue to be strong (not win it all) in their respective classes. It is sad. I can't remember the last time my local high school scheduled a private to play. Indeed, a watered down product is what we are producing now. Not to mention, the lesson we are teaching our kids.
  3. I doubt that very seriously. BA is being televised nationally this year.
  4. The TSSAA is striking a deal with Comcast that will televise virtually everything. That is except anything D2 related. Are D2 schools second class members? It sure looks that way. http://www.tennessean.com/apps/pbcs.dll/ar...357/1002/SPORTS
  5. Easy Tiger. I don't believe his list was meant to be all inclusive - and he in fact asked who you thought would be the top. I think Friendship and Gordonsville should be on the 2A list.
  6. I imagine that there are a few reasons that factored in the decision. The first would be that small privates like MTCS historically pay rather low in comparison to public schools - especially what he could receive in the Murfreesboro proper area. The second reason may be the slight uncomfortableness (is that a word? /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) that he may be feeling with his Dad leaving the nest from MTCS. Coach Bash Jr. pre-dated Bash Sr., but it is still a little awkward with family coming and going in whatever capacity at the school. I can't fault the guy at all for a fresh start at a decent program with better pay. Although, I do agree that the move does seem quite lateral from a "level" perspective.
  7. Surely you know the answer why. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  8. Yes - a true family financial hardship is usually granted. It has to be fairly severe though - loss of a job that there is not chance to replace, bankruptcy, near foreclosure, etc. They'll have to open the books to the "researcher". Hopefully, they won't bring the, "gas is so expensive now" routine or even better the "wow, we didn't realize how expensive private school really was" act. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  9. Play independently. Try to join another organization. Try to start your own organization. The "other choice" is basically that you can do whatever you want to do.
  10. Just out of curiosity - and I know I'm probably opening a giant can of worms - but why should there be a revolt in your eyes? Personally, I think the organization is run quite well. Not everyone can be happy all the time, but I think the BOC has done a good job of appeasing multiple constituent groups while keep the organization together as a whole.
  11. Oh steve, don't throw facts at the poor folks! They don't understand them. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  12. There are 2 levels for private school sports participation. Number 1 is D2 which holds all the private schools that do offer financial aide to students - MUS, CB, BA, Baylor, BGA, McCallie, etc. So they do not compete with public schools for any championships. In reality, any school could opt to play in this division if they wished - public or private. Number 2 is D1 private schools that opt to participate with the public schools. Those private schools are "bumped up" already. They have a multiplier applied to their school populations of 1.8. That means a school with 300 students in 1A would have a TSSAA multiplied population of 540 and be in 2A. For example if not for the multiplier, Lipscomb would be in 2A. DCA, Ezell, CPA would be in 1A.
  13. You ask "why not?" I ask "why do that at all?" At least, not until the rules are fairly applied to all schools - not just applied to the private schools. Really - the best option would be a merit system. The problem with that type of solution, the public dominators do NOT want it because it would effectively end their total domination. That is why that does not garner more support.
  14. Actually, my kids attend public school. My taxes give my children the right to participate against others in organized sports sponsored at the public (public = government) level. Someone else that pays the same taxes but chooses another educational option should have the same right to compete against them. Their burden definitely isn't any less in terms of financial obligations to the public system.
  15. Congrats JCS! I singled out you and FCS as the two single A teams that played schedules hard enough to prepare you to win it all. You have a class program that steps up and plays the big boys during the season to get ready for this type of action. Congrats!
  16. Actually, mine - slightly. I'm a public school supporter (Mt. Juliet). I've never had a beef with the local privates that have taken decent athletes - FCS, DCS, GP - but I felt like the multiplier rules were fair, IMO. However, I've come to the realization that the rule may not have merit as it isn't being applied consistently and fairly. My biggest beef is the NON-application to schools like Alcoa and Maryville. Both have VERY similar quailities private schools without the private school price tags. I now feel that privates are being singled out as a result of prejudice - the have's vs. the have not's. At the most basic level, there is no other explanation as to why the privates would be singled out with such viciousness while others who are "guilty" of the same performance and practices skates by with a relative whimper. That whimper being caused by being a very small speed bump on the way to their virtually guaranteed championships. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> If your taxes are paying for seats at the public school - whether you pay for private school tuition or not - you should be allowed to participate with everyone. Maybe one day you'll get past your prejudice. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  17. No - a school with 400 students plays at the multiplied number of 720. The multiplier is 1.8. 1 is the baseline index with the .8 being the 80% increase in enrollment to the baseline.
  18. It is totally valid. It isn't to you because it doesn't validate your argument. Let me make the comparison between MJCA and Wilson Central - where I do consider myself an uber expert because I live in Wilson Co., I've attended the church that houses MJCA (MJ First Baptist) my entire life while participating humongously with church ministries of which MJCA is the largest, and I live in the Wilson Central school zone (with two relatives that teach there). MJCA is a private school. Their size is comparable to Friendship (making FCS one of your "smallest ones" then too - and successful) as opposed to 2A schools in the area like DCA, Ezell and GP. Their football program is 6 years old and sits in the Wilson Central "zone". Wilson Central is a 5A public school. Their football program is 7 years old, but they are now sporting 2 different 10 win seasons already. Don't even get me started about the girls basketball program and the former strength of the boys program. How are they not comparable on any level? The area economics of the population are the same. Geographically, a 5 minute drive from one to the other (take away Providence traffic nightmare road construction). Both "new programs". Beyond that, isn't the argument that private schools have more resources? So MJCA has more money to spend in their programs, right? And not only do they have full access to the WC zone, but they also have access to the full Mt. Juliet High School zone students (whose zone is about 2 miles away), and the passthrough Lebanon High traffic whose parents work in Nashville, right? Last I checked, Mt. Juliet High is pretty decent at a lot of athletic endeavors - baseball, softball, football since Coach Perry, girls basketball. (I won't mention Lebanon since they think their programs are great, but they are a bunch of never has beens. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> ) Now, why in the world is Wilson Central having success in athletics - infinitely so in football since that is your example - compared to MJCA? I mean, MJCA has all the advantages, right? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  19. Exactly! Junior gets a participation trophy that says State Champ ... but they didn't actually keep score in any games. Sissy-fication of America is living loud and proud in TN! Or at least on this board. /roflolk.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflolk:" border="0" alt="roflolk.gif" />
  20. Ah, back to dismissing, smoke and mirrors again. I am enjoying the show though. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> So what you are saying is that new programs can't win and the only reason they don't win is because they are new programs, correct? Perhaps you should have a talk with the fine folks at Ravenwood and Independence about their football programs. Madison Magnet in Jackson about their basketball team. Or Wilson Central about their girls basketball team. With all the resources and advantages that you (the royal "you" in terms of private haters - but geared at the literal you too) claim private schools have, wouldn't you think that some of the "new programs" would explode onto the scene like a Ravenwood? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" I'm sure the argument back now will be, "well, I meant "new" in that they have "new" athletic team logos and we all know you can't win if you have new team logos". /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  21. That is a totally incorrect statement too. Most of those schools aren't new. MTCS - founded in 1960 MJCA - founded in 1979 Columbia Academy - originally founded in 1905 as a military school; incarnation as a Christian school in 1979 Trinity - founded in 1986 Nashville Christian - founded in 1971 Grace Baptist - can't find, but the church was founded in 1985 Grace Chrisitan - founded in 1996 Fayette Academy - founded in 1965 Except for Grace Baptist (since I can't find their founding date online), all are at least 23 years old except for 1. That one is 12 years old. What definition are you using for "new"? The convenient dismissing definition that doesn't fit your argument or something else? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  22. Well, how convenient - disregarding comparisons that do not verify your side of the argument. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> We haven't seen that side of the debate before. /rolleyes.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="rolleyes.gif" /> They are totally valid comparisons - and then some. The few truly dominant 3A schools (and 4A and 5A in football) are dominating just like the few privates the tend to dominate their respective sports. Not only that, they are doing it at the largest level usually with the largest resources - population, urban, facilities - normally for all schools in those classifications. Why can some publics that totally dominate get a pass when it comes to scrutiny too? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" I'll spell it one letter at a time - "P"
  23. It doesn't matter if Maryville plays any privates or not. The prevailing argument here is that a few schools dominate over all others. For the purposes of private haters, they lumped all the private schools together when it really is a select few that are always there in different sports. That is just like Maryville and Alcoa's total domination. Although, Maryville and Alcoa dominate truly like no other school ever has in TN HS sports. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Although, I do know why private haters take that stance and over look Maryville and Alcoa. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  24. So what you are saying is that the championships should be spread evenly every year with every team have their designated % chance to win it all. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" So if that is so, then why are their 8 championships in football attributed to only two teams? That hardly seems right if we follow that logic. Why aren't you pouncing all over Alcoa and Maryville? /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="
  25. Wow! Part duex was a slugfest. Excellent season Summertown! FCS - Good luck tomorrow with JCS. Pitching has to be getting thin and you'll have to play 2 to get to the championship. Bring another trophy back to Wilson Co.
