  1. The only issue, that is still unresolved, is that one of the three has not figured out how to win with the ones he has decided to keep. I believe that this is where the rub is.
  2. I just think that if you are going to be successful that there must be a balance of both winning and character development. Who wants character if you lose every year. I always hear about certain coaches, he can't win but he is great with kid's. Then I hear, he is only about winning, and no character development. Seems to me people are talking out of both sides of their mouth. Do you want a winner, or do you want a preacher, or can you be both? Surely most successful people have learned to have some type of balance in their lives and programs. "Once again we all know about the exceptions to the rule". Seems to me that there have to be some correlations to winning programs.
  3. You bring up an interesting point of contention in this profession. I am aware as Tony Dungy says that we are to model what we expect, and you must have rules and standards to run a program. I would think that you have to also take into question the background of the individual. We all should know that it can be very different growing up in different parts of any community. Ever heard the statement from across the tracks. Not everyone comes from the same upbringing. There is a great book "Seasons of Life" that everyone should read. This may be the season of life for winning in these young mens lives, and that may lead them to substantial character development, or at least buy in to that way of life. Losing is not always the best teacher of character development. You can catch more flies with sugar than with salt! Needs to be said!
  4. 12NCS makes a great point! I believe that Franklin was the school that chose to not make up the tie game, and who ever heard of a TSSAA game ending in a tie. The game was not even counted at the end of the season.
  5. Now we have some decent discussion going! However, I do believe that there are programs that do it the right way, and win year in and year out. It takes athletes, and coaches together. You can go from state to state, and there are always two ingredients to great programs. Great athletes and Great coaches! And yes there is always the occasional exception to the rule, otherwise there would be no "One Hit Wonders". I think the original question was what is the prospective future of the Hillsboro Football Program.
  6. I noticed he mentioned competition, and competition is just that, I don't care who you are, or where you play. If Maryville won 74 straight, why didn't Franklin, Brentwood, or anyone else for that matter in middle tn. play Maryville on an open date. I am sure they were looking for opponents. As with all programs that win, unless you have to play them, most choose not too. That is just my guess. But if you want to make excuses, I hear they are like other body parts, everybody has them, or can make them. Hello! Is anybody listening????????????
  7. I am not sure that Franklin, Centennial, Brentwood, Ravenwood, are even in the same category as Maryville as far as competition goes????
  8. Not really, just wondering what people are thinking about Hillsboro given all of the success over the last 15 years and the state of the program over the last couple of years. The move from the top of the mountain to the bottom is usually hard, but I don't believe the talent has dropped off. J.T. Moore is still winning city championships, but that is not translating to success at the High School Level, and wanted to know what people who are in the know thought about the situation. Has the administration changed? Is it Coaching? Leadership? etc. / With all of the opinions on CoachT it seems to me that silence still seems to be golden. In other words, lack of discussion on the topic would mean that there is nothing more to say, but I have been wrong before!!! Believe it or not!
  9. Okay, more than one as a head coach, and then do the same at another school!!!!!
  10. I agree, Blade did wonders for Hillsboro, he came in, lost a state title, missed one by a field goal, and then beat Maryville, pretty good for one who was not a metro insider. Seems like he knew what he was doing. I was not happy to see him leave, but OR got a great coach. I believe that he was only 1 game, maybe two from being back in the title game this past season. How many coaches in metro or tn can say they have played for 1 state championship.
  11. 66 views and no replies, seems like the silence speaks volumes. Little interest and no comments. Seems like there are enough viewers from Middle Tennessee that someone would have something to say about this program??????
  12. What is the word on the Hillsboro Football Program. J.T. Moore is still sending athletes to the Boro. Aydelott built a winner, Blade beat Maryville, now what. I know they have struggled the last two years, but does anyone know what the outlook is for this program. Have not heard, would appreciate any update. I did notice that Aaron Bryant signed with TSU, good luck to him and the rest of the matador, boro nation.
  13. Kelley Myers is a great pick. He coached my son at Hillsboro, and is thought the world of by him. Good Luck in the new job Coach Myers. May all of your seasons be winners.
  14. Head Coaches have a tremendous say about a player being noticed by a college. It is their opinion that opens the doors to be looked at . If their opinion carries any weight about talent, then the college coach is going to give the kid a good look. What often happens, is that an athlete pigeon holes themselves by only being interested in playing for one university. Say an athlete is talented, but only wants to play for UT, which is often the case, what self respecting coach would push an athlete on UT who is not capable of meeting their requirements. However if the athlete is willing to play at a university where he is wanted, then the scope of the situation changes. I would personally sit down with all of my seniors, juniors, sophomores, freshman, with any talent and begin talking about GRADES & ACT SCORES, which is usually the biggest hold back, and explain to them the reality of playing college football. First they need to decide if they want to play college ball or attend college. I have seen plenty of players that said they wanted to play college ball, however, they were simply attending college and practicing football. To start on the college level is a full time job, so in essence the athlete has two full time jobs, First attending classes and staying academically eligible, and second performing and keeping their starting job. As a Head Coach, I have tried to develop relationships with at least 30 colleges where my athletes would be able to be academically eligible, and make an impact for the team. I also am concerned about what the college needs. Are they looking for receivers, qb's, lineman, lber's, etc. I want my athletes who are totally committed to be totally successful. I also send film after the 3rd, 6th, 9th, game of the season and end of the playoff's. Once I have a handle on all colleges that are interested in an athlete, I am personally invested in where they will fit the best. In my opinion, I do not want my athletes stockpiled at any university. I want them in the classroom and on the field pursuing their dreams. This takes a lot of time, however all 8 seniors had the opportunity to sign letters of intent, 4 chose to do so. They will ultimately be successful because they have some understanding of the commitment level that it takes to start on the next level. Notice, I did not say play, I said start. The 4 that chose not to play, will still attend college, but are gifted enough academically to go that way, but if they change their mind all they have to do is call me, and I will open the doors for them. Once again, expectations are the key. All colleges have their key marks for speed, height, strength, needs by position, etc. Whether they are D1 or D3, the athletes expectations have to be realistic. Athletes that go to the next level and perform are going to be noticed by the next level whether they play D1 or D3. Just look at the pro's, not all players come from D1 schools, and some make it because they refuse to quit at anytime. It seems to me that an athlete that works hard at all times, and refuses to take no for an answer will always find a coach that is a fan, and a place to play on the field. As a head coach talent is great, heart is better, position is not important, and pride does not need to get in the way of playing on the field.
  15. GO BURROS!! I was not sure why Greg Young went out of the game Friday night, However, It was great to see Keith Perry come in and run the offense. He made a great throw to Corey Jordan in the final part of the game. This may be the smallest Hillsboro team that I have seen in the last 7 years, but they are definitely the fastest. Coach Blade has done another fine job getting to the state championship again. It was great to see the Boro's defeat Henry County. All I have heard since August is that Henry County was #1. They were undefeated until Friday night, but my goodness the hype! Go Burros!!!!!!!!!! Beat Maryville!!!!
