  1. It's not really about that anymore. Yes, I'm still going to do plays; opening night is Thursday. And yes, I am planning to wrestle. My drama director and wrestling coach have both been very understanding and supportive. I may have to miss a few practices, but they've been a lot more flexible than I thought. As for the whole girl thing, now I realize that was a little far-fetched. But I do want to make my school proud and now that it's my senior year it's my last chance to go out a winner. Anyway this time I'll try to know when to shut up. That whole episode you refer to BCB, is really humiliating to me now and I'd rather not bring it up again. I do appreciate the interest though. But about the weight cutting, my teacher keeps ribbing me and calling me a wimp for trying to drop a weight class, so I was wondering what other people's views were.
  2. A lot of people who aren't familiar with our sport just don't grasp the idea of cutting weight. I've had people ask me, "why in the world do you have to lose so much weight?" And I have a tough time explaining. Generally a wrestler will drop a few pounds to get in a weight class he thinks he has a better shot at winning. I'm beginning to wonder is that the same as just running away from the competition? Are we cowards because we avoid having to wrestle heavier guys?
  3. This is probably Ryan's best season in the last 4 years. On an average year wouldn't you say it goes Baylor 1st, McCallie 2nd, Ryan 3rd, MBA 4th, Christian Brothers 5th? Besides for Brentwood Academy's recent rise to powerhouse status.
  4. Here's my top team predictions with their returning medalists. DI 1. Bradley Logan Biddy David Graham David Mang Dean Pavlou 2. Franklin Dustin Ortiz Ryan Konz Wiley Davis Ben Heacock Carter McPhee 3. Ooltewah Chris Bradbury Jake Young Cody Sliger 4. Soddy Daisy Ryan? Gardner from middle school? Justin Hammonds Dustin Stewart Mikey Fuller 5. Ravenwood Sean Ford John Warren Chris Wolfe Teams to watch for: Clarksville, Notre Dame, Cleveland, Red Bank, Greeneville, Tullahoma, Independence DII 1. Father Ryan Jordan Lovelace Anthony Simpson Matt Brewer Patrick Marchetti Cody Austell Ryne Miller Michael Goodrum Kevin Mix Zach Hermann 2. Baylor Zach Watson from middle school? Alex Manley Stuart Doster Bailey Whittaker Trey Stavrum Colton Popp Oak Park kid ??!! 3. Brentwood Academy the die is cast Chase Brannon??? Zeno Dupree??? Clyde Boswell Andrew Lundburg Justin Cash Thomas Lunburg Tyler Brasher Jabari Tuani Ryan Carreethers 4. McCallie Taylor Silberman Mike Hooker Kendall Ray Chase Martino Gravedigger Nathan Hughes 5. Montgomery Bell Academy Mark Simpson Jeff Francis Daniel Todd Luke Bellet Ben Bartholomew Teams to watch for: Christian Brothers, Ensworth, St. Benedict Let me know if you want more info
  5. I'd say they're generally considered the top team in division II. They definitely return the most medalists. Some say Baylor could be better.
  6. I hope we can all have a truce here. Whether sweety is genuine or just playing games there's no point in arguing with a random girl on the internet who lives on the other side of the country. All of you guys are cool I've enjoyed reading many of your posts, so don't let sweety provoke you. And sweety if all you wanted to do was discuss girls' treatment in wrestling then I'm sorry about all this. Everybody's cool in my book; let's leave it at that. The season's starting; we've got bigger and more fun things to think about.
  7. I agree except I don't think there's any way Dustin Ortiz will be at 125. Probably 135 or maybe 130. Heacock I think was registered for the Super 32 at 171 last I heard.
  8. Anyone who is a coach of Williamson County or Nashville area teams do you have match schedules yet? At Centennial High we're sort of in the dark right now about our match schedules. We've got a new coach as usual and I don't know who exactly is keeping up with our schedule at this point. My fear is that our lack of communication is creating a falling-out with the other teams and everybody may get booked up without us. So if it's possible please save some room on your schedules for Centennial High School if you haven't heard from our coaches.
  9. Well I didn't think of that. I guess (for now) it can't really be helped then. Thanks for listening.
  10. Okay I have a question/suggestion about the volleyball forums. Now that the season is over and the club forum is free of charge, why not organize the regular volleyball forum and the club forum into one? If that's possible. Now I've been told that the two forums are run by two separate bodies, but can they not function as one entity? Are they not both branches of the coacht website? I just think that it is better to keep the volleyball community - all the players, parents, coaches, fans, etc. who post on these boards - together on the same forum. Spreading everyone across two forums may reduce participation. If they are combined and all the ideas and topics come up on just one page won't that generally keep everybody more focused together? With two separate boards we may get users who are only interested in one specific bit of information and never have a reason to visit the other one. No interaction, which is what makes a chat forum what it is. We'll have two separate groups of participants: the club people and the season people. That's not good for the volleyball community, especially if Tennessee is to generate more interest and thus expand the sport. And the main volleyball forum is slowing down already. It shouldn't be restricted to events that go on in the season as there is plenty of activity during the off-season. Our forum should be about the sport as a whole. By combining the two forums, I think we can boost interest and participation. I imagine I'm not the first person who's mentioned these concerns before, and I don't know a thing about internet politics, but please try to do something if it's possible. This isn't just a volleyball issue; this can apply to all the sports. Hope something can be done. Thanks. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />

    Region 6

In the duals I say it falls between Independence and Ravenwood. Your cats at Overton may have a shot if the best guys on the team win at the right weights. And this year Brentwood must be reckoned with as well. But at the individuals it will likely be Franklin.
  12. My turn 1) Girls Prep School -Chattanooga 2) Brentwood -Williamson County/Nashville area 3) Ooltewah -Chattanooga area 4) Father Ryan -Nashville 5) Hutchinson -Memphis 6) Centennial -Williamson County/Nashville area 7) Greenbrier -Nashville area 8) Dobynns-Bennet -Kingsport/Knoxville area 9) Ravenwood -Williamson County/Nashville area 10) Science Hill -Johnson City/Knoxville area Not sure where Harding would fall into the mix, as I know nothing about them except they're from Memphis Franklin, Independence, Page, Anderson Co., (Knoxville) Catholic, and Hillsboro could be in the top 20 But of course the results could be drastically different depending on who was playing well that day. I'm basing this on 1) Performance at State 2) Seasonal match results 3) Best top-level performance on a certain day 4) Consistency within the individual games By the way that was for this past season, not next year...we'll get to that

    Rosters

Any coaches want to post their rosters up here, if that's possible yet?
  14. Yeah when I woke up this morning that was the first thing I remembered. Wasn't thinking, my bad. Okay let me revise this. Ben Heacock- Franklin Walter Weller- Franklin Cody Quick- Tullahoma Jabari Tuani- Brentwood Academy Duke Deloach- Ensworth Alex Baldwin- Ensworth *Watch out for Ensworth in division2 this year, going to surprise people
  15. I said "decision", I actually don't know if it wasn't a pin or default or something else with the Konz-Johnson match. Oh yeah David Mang doesn't really count I guess. But I've yet to see him win state in Tennessee. That's gonna be fun.
  16. I agree about Konz; he was incredible in middle school. There is little doubt to me that he was the best in the country at least, during his 8th grade year. The competition has caught up a little, but he is still amazing. When did he whoop Ben Johnson? I remember they wrestled each other in 2002, with Johnson winning a very controversial decision over him. Didn't see it for myself but I bet it was awesome. Here are my other picks: David Mang...well, duh How old is Baylor's 189? The one who supposedly transfered from Oak Park? Josh Jadoobirsingh...try saying his name three times really fast Cody Sliger, I always like to see skilled heavyweights Just a few more weeks guys
  17. The Animal: I've read some of your posts before and you seem like a good guy, but I just have to say this... You just got pwnd!! That's like my favorite nerd thing to say. Don't have anything against Caps Lock but that was a good slam by jimmyjones. Now then, where were we? Oh I was going to reply to sweety1000. The guys on the team are being jerks? Wait, you're not the only girl on the team? Where in the world do you go to school? Anyway if the guys are really trying to hurt you or the other girl on purpose then that's horrible. They're probably just being pervs or something. They might be kind of intimidated or too embarrassed to treat you the same as the others. But you have to realize it is sort of out of the ordinary for girls to be wrestling. I imagine it's difficult to know how to coach or practice with girls on the mat because we don't know how far is okay to push you, and there are certain moves that can get a bit awkward. Stuff like that, you know. If you feel the need to prove yourself I would also have to suggest volleyball or girls' basketball. Nothing sissy about them. I'm a guy, and I am a genuine and hardcore fan of my high school's volleyball team. Don't believe me? Check the forum. But if you really do want to wrestle, it is your right to do so. There is a good deal of female competition out there. And then there's martial arts. I'm a fan of Amanda Buckner from Bodogfight. But just remember, if you want to be treated like one of the guys, you have to be willing to go through all the brutality that they do. Being treated like a man goes both ways. Good luck /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  18. Now wristbar that's a little hateful... We'd be talking about any wrestler from Tennessee who got a national award. Remember how much people were talking about David Mang when he placed at Fargo? But if you really want to talk about someone other than Brett, talk about this guy: The real McCoy, Cameron Croy If people are excited about Brett making All-American then what about Brentwood's 189 Croy winning a national championship (as a redshirt middle schooler) and then again at another tournament in a 5th overtime victory? He's the same age and weight as Brett Jaeckel and he placed 4th at state last year. But Brett did take second place at the freshman NHSCA tourney; I would have liked to see Croy wrestle at that one. Both of them have done well at national tournaments in middle school. I'm thinking this could be a great rivalry.
  19. Because when Hendersonville had Bundy, Perry, Dobbs, Treloar, Carter, and a good 119 and 140 (don't know their names) they still weren't in the top 20. It was surprising to me; they won their invitational and beat Franklin in a dual but didn't as good at state. So I have to look at past evidence here.
  20. I've been taking a close look at last season's state tournament results and I'd like to change my predictions a little. I might have ranked Red Bank too high, Clarksville too low, etc. Anyway, this should do it for my final pre-season predictions: 1) Bradley Returns three state champions (counting David Mang), a 3rd place finisher, and some others that were close. I expect they'll be adding a lot of talent. 2) Franklin Returns five medalists...good medalists 3) Ooltewah Returns two champs, a 6th place finisher, and a 6th place finisher from 2006. Have been getting better and better. 4) Soddy Daisy A finalist, two 5th placers, one near-medalist, and an apparent middle school stud (Gardner) 5) Ravenwood Returns a 3rd place, a 4th place, and a 5th from 2006. Returns more who were close. Getting better each year. 6) Clarksville Had a lot of good wrestlers, but I'm not sure if all are returning. I know a few of them are. After this the lines begin to blur 7) Notre Dame Two medalists returning, plus this team is consistently good. 8) Cleveland Returns state champ J-bo and many who have been competing on the national level over the summer. And their Higher Calling club is hardcore. I'm still mostly speculating, but they look promising this year. 9) Red Bank Finished a solid 13th and only lost one medalist. The younger Tolbert could be tough. Strong dual team last year. 10) Greeneville Have been tough recently, returning two 4th place medalists plus some others who are good. Next 20 (no particular order): Tullahoma Brentwood Greenback Independence Kenwood Maryville Science Hill Collierville Overton Cordova My division II list remains the same as always D-II seems to have tougher teams than D-I this year.
  21. I think Clarksville will be in the top 10, but I don't know about top 5. As of now, my top 10 predictions look like this D-I 1) Bradley 2) Franklin 3) Ooltewah 4) Ravenwood 5) Soddy 6) Red Bank 7) Clarksville 8) Cleveland 9) Notre Dame 10) Tullahoma Watch for: Greeneville, Independence, Brentwood, Sceince Hill, Collierville, Germantown, Antioch (no, really) D-II 1) Father Ryan 2) Baylor 3) Brentwood Academy 4) McCallie 5) MBA 6) Christian Brothers 7) St. Benedict 8) Ensworth 9) Briarcrest 10) BGA Or something like that
