  1. I was told that it only costs schools $250.00 to be a member of the TSSAA -that's pretty cheap if you think about it. If you charged $1,000 and you have 50 or so privates then there's $50,000 right from the start just in dues. To start a new association from day one,it would take several hundered thousand bucks to run it,staff it, etc..
  2. There are things called business loans. No, Lighthouse would not be expected to put up 5,000 bucks to help form an association - they should not be expected to-nor should BGA.My son goes to a D2 school that I know could not afford a big assessment but I believe the endowments of most privates schools would be sufficient (combined)as collateral for a bank to float some money to get an association formed. Look at all the $$ the TSSAA makes. It would take a few years to get rolling but nobody really pays their house off in 5 years -that's why they have loans and money is pretty cheap these days to borrow. Trust me. The privates would have some work to do but they have 2 years to do it. This is not something that has caught them off guard. Many AD's have been prepared for it for quite some time. A lot of work has already been done behind the scenes. They just have to knock the dust off their binders and see what it looks like. 3. Yeah, I know that,Tackle. I posted that last week but there has been so many posts re: this you probably did not see it. I could see 3 classes for football and 2 for all other sports. D2 currently is 3 divisions so that would not change. As for the other sports 2 would be better than what's in place now. There's no way St Andrews Sewanee can compete with Ryan for instance in basketball -nor should they be expected to. I heard yesterday that the TSSAA could in fact sanction games against another association in the state if they wanted to but it would be their call since they are the designnated NFHS association. So, maybe as an act of good will they might do that (to keep the gates up for some public schools who might want to schedule a rival private). But when the dust settles they probably won't. You must remember the NFHS is not a government organization so they can let in whom they want. Granted, they are the only game in town and we know what happened to the TSSAA when it was established in court that they were a "state actor". A new private association might sue at the federal level that the NFHS is a "federal government actor" ????
  4. Utah: your points are valid but look for the privates to take an "offensive" stance to this deal and run with it...the ONLY way i see privates staying a part of the TSSAA is if they are given representation on the board of control and the council...first, they split things into division one and 2...now, they are making a total private/public split (still no representation on the board of control)...so for a minute do you think the "banished" will allow themselves to be dictated to with zero representation ???? absolutely not...why on earth would they choose that ??? all along, the big thing for d-1 privates has been classification for all sports in d-2....sure, cpa and goodpasture (and others) could play with members of the super 7...but on a week in/week out basis ??? probably not...classification will be a must (if the privates branch off or not) and, who is to say that the privates don't take the ball and run with it ???? for instance, if the privates formed their own association they could immediately put in a shot clock for basketball...now how 'bout that for taking the initiative and stirring the pot ????
  5. The NFHS is THE governing body of high school athletics in the U.S.. The advantages to being associated with the NFHS would be things like catastophic insurance, the sanctioning of events, rule changes/adaptation, etc. I could see the privates going on the OFFENSIVE on this deal and not letting themselves dictated to.Tennessee is a different beast than other states. In Mississippi and South Carolina the private league is looked down upon. I don't think that would be the case here at all. And, keeping this basketball related to stay on this part of the board, I could ABSOLUTELY see (after some talking with some coaches) the new private association adapting rules to set themselves apart almost immediately like the shot clock .They could do it if they wanted to and that's what everyone wants but the NFHS says it's years away on their end before it would be considered. My point is, i don't think you'll have to wait on the TSSAA to pass the rule. The privates may just leave on their own since the message has been made clear.
  6. If a separate "association" is formed by the privates then the publics and the privates will not be able to play each other by the rules of the National Federation. The NFHS only recognizes on association per state and the TSSAA is the recognized association. Kinda silly rule but it's a rule Click on the football board and then click on "private public debate" at the top. Coach T will probably lock this thread soon anyway because it needs to be on there (he has done it before for good reason). [Edited by JohnJacob on 11-11-02 1:19P]
  7. You also left out John Paul 2 - who would be probably in the super 7 (it won't be 7 then, it will be 8) by 2005...it will be interesting to see what Briarcrest and Notre Dame do by then...They currently are just under the bubble of being in the super 7 One more -Ensworth will be open by then (they will open in 2004). So in 2005 it would be their 2nd year of sports which could put them in D-2 middle AA .Of course my prediction is they will not be in the TSSAA-the privates will be in their own assoc. - but this dialogue is good for that possibility as well [Edited by JohnJacob on 11-11-02 8:42A]
  8. I know this is football only but what about Friendship Christian ? They are private, right ?
  9. When the privates (all of them) are pushed into division 2, that's one thing. They can still play division one teams and everyone (especially the publics) will SEEM happy on the surface. Division one schools can schedule a big "neighborhood" non-region game and make a big gate (brentwood high/brentwood academy for example).. but the privates will probably not go for that.... scenario 2: if they form their own association then the privates BY RULE cannot play ANY TSSAA school in any sport (and vice versa)...the NFHS only recognizes one association per state and their members cannot play schools who are not in that association...another catch -let's say Mccallie wants to go play an Atlanta school - can't do it because that school is a member of the GHSAA (which is recognized by the NFHS)... If a new association is formed by the privates you'll probably see the best facilities in the state used for state tournaments, referees will be paid more per game, sponsorships will increase along with media coverage,etc.. I totally see a total private association being the "dominant" one . In some states (like Mississippi) it's not that way. Not here. The main roadblock with this deal is that privates WILL NOT allow themselves to be governed by a board of control that has zero reps that are "like" them. It will never happen. Put them in their own division of the TSSAA then fine. But if they are not given any say so as to how they are treated then it is over and they will be out.
  10. They will table it, try to buy some time, and come up with what the divisions will look like IF it does happen (but it's going to happen in 2005 -there's too much bad blood now). This is still 3 years away (2 football seasons). From what I hear, there is a 85% chance it will be tabled. I guarantee that the privates will start meeting very soon to look at their options.
  11. I honestly heard that a lot of the private schools in the mid state were calling their public school friends/ad's and telling them to vote "yes" -no joke
  12. yeah, coach...tell us about yourself... ummm.....can you say "busted" ??? [Edited by JohnJacob on 9-26-02 4:31P]
  13. I AGREE WITH PANFAN..... "coach tom moore dug himself a hole"....probably one of the dumbest, most irrational statements i have ever seen....i see that you have only posted 3 times on this board - you must have been sleeping for the past year.... to say the statement re: comparing him to his father is also rediculous.....hershul moore is a legend...tom's brother (john) does an outstanding job at hillwood as offensive coord....they are a football family FACTS: TOM MOORE DID ABSOLUTELY NOTHING WRONG. HE WENT TO TWO STRAIGHT DIVISION 2 FINAL GAMES. HE IS AN OUSTANDING COACH. FLATT COULD NOT TAKE THE HEAT AND WAITED IN THE BUSHES UNTIL EVERYTHING SETTLED DOWN. TOM MOORE GOT RIGGED AND EVERY COACH IN TOWN AND IN THIS STATE KNOWS IT. IF FLATT WANTED TO GET BACK IN COACHING, HE SHOULD HAVE DONE IT AT ANOTHER SCHOOL. BA IS WINNING WITH TOM MOORE'S PLAYERS - PLAIN AND SIMPLE
  14. i will take a stab at your question... there are many many religions that are extending themselves to people of ethnic origins....i know for a fact that the catholic church has masses in spanish at several locations...there is an episcopal church (st. matthias) near nolensville road that has services in a foreign language - the church population is mainly white...why is there a mormon church/place of worship near burton hills right smack dab in the middle of 37215 ??? is it your thought ,481, that mormons do not live in green hills ?? maybe there is a huge conspiracy going on with the mormon church and hillsboro high school to bring more athletic mormon kids into their district ... you should not get the missions of the church and the school confused...the presbyterian faith has long held a belief of extending their faith, mission work, values, etc. to people around the globe...this philosophy has always been in place -long before christ pres academy was founded...you are fishing in an area that you are not familiar with is my point,481....the church will always be "the church"...cpa's successful athletic program has nothing to do with it....your implied searching for athletes by establishing a relationship with a possible new church down the road does not make sense....now, if cpa lines up one day with 5 offensive linemen of korean descent then you can come on here and blow smoke all you want....and for the record, i have no affliation with cpa, their church,or the presbyterian faith
