  1. Hi TraderB, I think the field goal was going to be around the 13 originally. Then with the delay of game penalty, that put them out of range. I guess the dropped passes could be looked at a couple of ways. Yes, they were dropped, but there were also defensive backs contesting for the ball, and the the bumping around and such that occurs can make it tough to hold on to the ball. That pass that was caught giving Whitehaven the ball at the 4 to set up the final play, that was a heckuva catch! We had 3 guys around him, and one was all over him. Yet your man came down with the ball! I think the drive Whitehaven made to get the score to 17-14 showed how potent of a passing game you have. Pretty impressive stuff!
  2. Hey kwc....yes, it was a beauty of a game! It's one of those that you hate to have to have one team on the short end of the score. Both teams had thier mistakes, but I think most of that is a result of being so early in the season, and obviously some of the mistakes caused by the other teams quality play. I really admire teams that can go at it so hard with each other, and yet maintain respect for each other. I was on the sideline (I take photos for the team). Truthfully, the players held up pretty well after the fumble. It was our fullback, #24 that coughed that up. But the team does an excellent job of pulling together and supporting each other when these kind of things happen. Personaly, I felt like that could have been the big momentum changer, and was really concerned about Whitehaven getting the momentum especially after that quick drive to bring the score to 17-14. I strongly suspect we'll see each other in the playoffs. I hope your team is proud of thier effort.
  3. We'll have to agree to disagree with on the status of 8-5A.
  4. Everyone got their money's worth out of that game, excellent competition, went down to the final play to decide it. 8-5A isn't watered down....I agree with you. I've seen WS scrimmage MUS a few times, varsity, jv, and freshmen, and we are able to compete with them. Yesterday, our freshmen squad defeated CBHS freshmen 33-12, or about that. Now, I know this isn't varsity, and it isn't a full game. But my point is that some of the public schools can compete with MUS and CBHS.
  5. Yep, so far the only difference I'm seeing is G'town isn't doing so well. Should be an entertaining year!
  6. I agree. I think there was some assumptions that Ridgeway would pick up where they left off from last year since they got a high profile coach. But so far, they look pretty weak.
  7. I guess that's one of the downsides to message boards. Without hearing voices, or seeing expressions, it's not easy to determine when someone is being sarcastic. And as kwc mentioned, you are as entitled to your opinion as I am to mine. I'll also add that my beliefs are good for me, but that certainly doesn't mean I'm right and you're wrong. I was curious about what you were comparing the teams to in order to refer to them as over-rated and being in a watered down league. I'm not saying we have the best in state. The season will leave no doubt to that as it goes by, and we'll all see how the Memphis teams fare against other areas. From what I've read regarding CBHS injuries, your team will be fine once they get back to strength. I think it's a bigger deal to win the last few games than the 1st few. (assuming you don't lose too many in the early going)
  8. Ah, ok....I can see the relativity now. Yes, 8-5A is that competitive. I believe Collierville was the odd man out last season? One of the things I feel good about WS is the leadership on offense and defense have been through some very close games that they pulled out late. So they don't get shaken, and you can see that they have the belief that they can pull the game out in the wanning seconds. That can count big in games that have the potential to be close at the end. I'm not alum, but my son is a soph on the team. He's #9, backing up #5 at free safety.
  9. I'm guessing Covington has some work to do before they return to last years quality. New coach and system, they didn't put up a good show against WSHS or Tupelo. I'm hoping the Spartans can get past Whitehaven, but it should be a very competitive game! I know I'm very excited to get it going! Whitehaven has shown the ability to come up big in their 2 games so far, and I strongly suspect they'll be ready this Friday too! This is what make HS ball fun!
  10. I'm not sure 8-5A deserves the "SEC" title...I'd think some schools in the Nashville area seem to have had more consistent success? However, over-hyped? watered down? flukes? Relative to who? One of the great things about this sport is that these things get settled on the field. Mitchell beat Melrose. That day, they were the better team. Melrose beat CBHS at Bridges. That day, Melrose was the better team. I understand CBHS has some injuries....but that is part fof the game. And in case you're wondering, I'm not insinuating that Mitchell would beat CBHS. That game hasn't been played. White Station is hardly over rated. They may not beat Whitehaven on Friday, but Whitehaven has some quality players on thier team. It should be a very competitive game between two good teams. It sounds like you're a bit dissapointed in CBHS so far, and just can't give other teams any credit.
  11. I was at the Jamboree (White Station played) and saw that pass. The thing that got me was how effortlessly he threw it! Your receivers have got to be in good shape to keep up with Torry's arm....impressive! Looks like Mitchell is going to make some noise this season. Best of luck!
  12. 1st, I agree with stuman89.....is this poll excluding Shelby County? If not, White Station should have your top spot. I've heard Dyersburg is looking tough, Millington isn't on your list either.
  13. I was surprised by Ridgeway's lopsided loss. I heard from a Ridgeway teacher that the principle shut down their practices due to hot weather, and they only managed to have 1 practice during the week before the game.
