  1. Can I squeeze in a little question . . . not on this topic, but because some refs are viweing and commenting here. I have recently seen a call from refs. . . . sort of like an offside call, but instead they move their hand back and forth in front of them, somewhat like an "over and back" viloation in basketball. Then the non-offending team gets a free kick. Is this essentially an offside call. maybe the player was "off" then the ball was kicked but then came back and recived it "on-side"? Therefore the "over and back" type hand movement. I just had not seen this call until recently.
  2. Thank you for the comment. Yep, both schools looking a little tacky on this thread. If the coaches need anythign extra to motivate these kids-and they don't- they can just pcik out a few choice, misguided comments here. One thing that amazes me is that . . . almost no one is talking about the two studs Vinsang and Waddey for MBA. Thy cna be a huge factor in this game.
  3. It is primarily a problem with instruction (coaching) and enforcement by the refs. who really DO let the girls get away with a lot of cheap stuff. I have seen many, many well executed slide tackes. It is part of the game, though. As I stated earlaier, it is a beautiful play when done well, and is not just a tactic used by slower, weaker players to compensate.
  4. Ensworth 1 at Indendence 0 (JV) 10/5/07
  5. Ensworth 1 at Independence 1 Lots of offense, but very little scoring.
  6. I agree BaPride. Sometimes entire teams seem to have a "personality" that one can only assume has been coached or at least condoned. We play teams ( only occassionally, thankfully) that are just down-right "chippy" with shirt pulling, high elbows all the time , riding the back on 50/50 headers. . . and most refs just let it go. Some of it is dangerous, and some the tactics of intimidation. Sometimes the refs. just swallow their whstles instead of taking charge and setting the girls and their coaches straight. A little time out by a ref to have a quick chat with a coach would help. And the game can still be plenty physical, without some of the "dirty" stuff.
  7. I am an Ensworth fan, and I happen to agree with you. We have every right to proud of our kids, but no right to be cocky (does anyone, really?).
  8. I think a good "clean" slide tackle is part of the game, and a beautiful thing when done well. But when not, it can certainly cause injury . . . and that is often from behind. There are other "dirty" plays that result in injury . . . such as the high elbow on a 50/50 header, etc. The refs just need to be consistent, and the coaches need to coach what is fair and legal. If it is truly a dirty play, give them the red card.I think a good "clean" slide tackle is part of the game, and a beautiful thing when done well. 9. Thank you. I think I've got it. Will wait to see my scgedule additions get posted.
  10. How do i do that? I always put the scores on.
  11. Well, as of today I am still waiting, and I also emialed them. Hope it goes better for me. There is some frustration for us in DIV II AA, because East and Middle were collapsed to one reagion and there is no way to tell what regioal standings are with playoffs coming up . . . Eurosport still shows the old regions, with Baylor, Webb and GIrls Preparatory School (GPS) in their old region.
  12. Don't know. Ensworth has maybe 400 kids right now, of whom 200 are boys, so depth is an issue for more than one team (Varsity). Enrollment will probably top out at about 115-120 kids per class, I think, but still only 225 boys or so.
  13. Yep, this money/rich talk is really foolish and misguided. EVERY private school in the area has some wealthy parents. EVERY one of them. And most that come to mind right now, have added new facilites in the last year or two (MBA, Harpeth Hall, Brentwood Academy, Ensworth). To get mired in this stuff cheapens the fun of anticipating this game. Both schools have many really good students and athletes, coaching, etc. MBA ought to be a favorite, but EHS has the tools to surpise them. I learned from my playing days years ago, to shut up and just go out and play and try to take care of business. Parents, too, ought to keep it togetehr and not be "inflamatory" or cocky (both sides). Be proud of your kids, and root hard. Respect the winners and losers, both for their hard work. Corny, I know.
  14. I did it yesterday. Just took a couple of minutes, but am still waiting for access to be approved. Gp to team home page and click to update schedule. Then it will ask you to "register".
  15. John Paul II 1 at Ensworth 1 Even game throughout.
  16. I'll be darned. I didn't know that. I'll do it. Thanks DonCChatt!
  17. I look at MJUHB as being more "accurate" given my limited knowledge. For Eurosport just using Ensworth as an example- the schedule and scores showm are missing 3-4 of the games played, so it's a joke. I think that this is the case with some other schools, too. It may be that the school just doesn't bother to provide that information, but it certainly "taints" the rankings. I also notice that the Regions for DIVII soccer are not correct either on Eurosport.
  18. You wnat www.eurosportscoreboard.com then click the state of Tennessee on the map. Rankings are over on the left side.
  19. My daughter has competed against her in soccer and in track relays. She is a heck of an athlete and handles her ablities really well. She will be missed. Best wishes for speedy recovery.
  20. I wonder what the betting line is, and the "over/under" is on the percentage of males over 30 wearing khaki pants at this game . . .
  21. CoachT has the Ensworth schedule ranked as harder than MBA, for what its worth . . . although I agree with other writers, it is really splitting hairs. It happens on the field Friday night.
  22. Jeez Louise, we didn't trash talk like this when I was in high school (years ago). How about a little humility. For Pete's sake, neither team has had a monster schedule, yet they have done what needed to be done. So give it a rest. Hillsboro is very good (MBA), and quit making excuses that Webb and McCallie and CPA are not so hot (Ensworth). Both teams have quality coahcing and backs, and none of them stink. I haven't seen Bartholomew and Vinsang (sp?) play but have seen them at track meets . . . and they will be very tough. Tavares and Orleans are very good backs. I love watching EHS play, as you never know when and who will break a big play, but they now come up against a storied program and a really good team in MBA. Undestandably, they (Ensworth) ought to be the underdog . . . all trash talking hype aside. Yet they stand a good chance. Play it out on the field and have some class and respect for eachother as opponents.
  23. I hope my comments about Harpeth Hall and Father Ryan were construed as crticism of the rankings. They are not in any way. More really to comment on those two teams, and how amazingly competitive things are- especially in the Mid/East Region ( which is all I have seen).
  24. When you look at how they have played recently . . . and WHO they have played. . . Father Ryan and Harpeth Hall look very, very tough. Don't let Harpeth Hall's record fool you, they have been in every game, and have the talent to go to Chattanooga. Theya re starting to peak at the right time. Ditto FR. Just my opinion.
  25. I agree with much that has been written. Ensworth cannot claim-nor is it claiming- to have no experience, etc. Yes, most of these young men have been playing a lot at the varisty level, albeit not alsways top-flite DII teams. They have gently moved into this. Their schedule is really not a joke, and you will find many schools with weaker opponents on their schedules, sometimes a division lower. Surely, EHS will be tested Friday night and in the coming weeks. The only thing i WILL draw attention to is the fact that they have the smallest pool of young men to draw from in DIV II AA (about 200) . . . not an excuse, just an observation, and the school was well aware of this before they opted for DII AA. It does mean a lack of depth. I suspect that Ensworth will need to win v. McCallie with big plays (kick returns, break a big run or two), and a turnover or two.
