  2. Any update on the final of the girls and boys championship?
  3. If they were second at the TNT, then she must be a player for the Ft. Loudon Lady Braves.
  4. From everything I hear, Science Hill has got to be the favorite. Everyone talks about how dominant they are. I haven't seen them play.
  5. Steve, Is anyone posting results for TMSAA Large Sectional at Pigeon Forge? Can't find anything out about the play in games and first round games. Have any info to pass along? Congratulations on the win today.
  6. When will all these Area 1 battles be decided? And what will Blountville or TA Dugger's chances be against Sevierville Middle? Are there any teams who might be able to stay in the gym with the Area 1 teams?
  7. Anyone have info on how the Blount County Tournament is going? What about Heritage Middle girls?
  8. Anybody with a name like macdaddy is high on my list.
  9. I agree with this line of thinking. A great way to help your feeder program is to help train the little league coaches. We would invite our little league coaches to clinics with us and would run a little league camp in the summer to help jump start their programs. They could join us on the sidelines or in the box if they wanted. We tried our best to make them part of our family and it paid great dividends. Later we involved the booster club and had them pay for sending the coaches to clinics or camps during the summer. If LC can get a middle school program, great, if not, then make the little league the best in the region.
  10. Coachinhoops, What I challenge is your perspective. I understand politics with athletics, but you claim corruption. Big difference. As coaches we find it too easy to blame everybody else on our failure. Stop whining and realize that as the coach, you are responsible for your program. There is no job that doesn’t come with baggage. If you are up to the challenge, then take the job, if not, move on. Great coaches love great challenges.
  11. Coachinhoops, I believe you may be a little biased. It always seems to be someone else??™s fault when we fail. It is too easy to blame everyone around you. I just do not see the lack of support from the administration you are talking about seeing that the principal is an old basketball coach himself. I know you have the inside track on what went on in the school, but political corruption? What would be the motive of the politicians in undermining the coach? Weren??™t Coach White??™s dad and the current school superintendent good friends? I think you are trying to make this thing out to be more than what it is. The situation is a little more straight forward than that, the program that Coach White put together just didn??™t work. It doesn??™t make him any less of a man, it just didn??™t work. The job at LC is attractive to many coaches. There are a lot of coaches that would love to take a program on the bottom and build it up. I would much rather take over a program at the bottom than one at the top.
  12. Hey Soloman, yes the LC fans wanted change. Just because they were trying to show some civility does change the fact that they are probably not shedding any tears today. Coach White’s resignation was his choice. It was his program from day one and all that was accomplished or was not accomplished was his alone. Critics are just that critics. Their words had nothing to do about Coach White leaving. Now we can begin the debate or rumors on who will be his replacement.
  13. This is a difficult call. It is nice to have nice warm practices, but I do commend the coach’s efforts to allow athletes to play multiple sports. In my day, we just had to lose athletes to baseball during the spring. I do think running track does help the team in the long run to develop speed and endurance. I would like to see a spring game. It always gave the kids something to look forward to doing at the end of spring practice
  14. 85, I appreciate the comments. I believe my coaching days are done, but I still hope that I can help the next generation (if you know what I mean, many coaches in the family).
  15. 101, Glad to have another person seeing things the way I do. There are two things High School coaches must do, adjust scheme to talent, and build talent for the future. Good stuff 101.
  16. It really just boils down to what the coach wants the letter to represent and I have seen it done in many ways. Some coaches want it to be just for Varsity playing time; others use it to motivate players for adding to the overall team but may never play a lot (Rudy). There are no hard fast rules, it should be used for what the coach needs to accomplish. The letter should be a source of pride not division. Look at the case of the proverbial back-up quarterback. He doesn't get on the field because the starter is better (older…what ever). He is more than athletic to cover kicks or punts, but the coach doesn't want to get him hurt, so in goes the sophomore. The sophomore gets a letter for covering kicks, but the better athlete does not letter. Just something to ponder. I am not for everyone getting due to participation, but I would expect the coach to have the ability to adjust to the situation on awarding them.
  17. I have talked with several young men who heard at least three coaches refer to bus 2 as the loser bus. It was not just this year either. Just last week a coach called a player a f***ing P***y. I believe last Tuesday a coach called the some players "little queers". I can take a little cussing, but it being directed at individual players just to put them down is not a great technique to build a team and is just a sign of lack of maturity on the coach's part. I just can not see how you can defend this type of action dr. dr, are you and LC coach? This info you have about bus two sounds like an inside job.
  18. I called to get some short buses, but it looks like dr had them all booked for his personal use.
  19. dr, The LC fans are not terrible people, they just want the same as every other fan group. Some of the folks on the chat have sons on the team and just want the best for them, not just wins, but a program that will make them better people. They do not like it when coaches disregard the truth, are inconsistant in their discipline, curse them like sailors (do disrepect Navy folks), and treat parents like the are just a nuisance. I agree, these coaches are young and still learning their trade, but most are in a situation of their own doing. No one forced them to do the things they did or failed to do. They made those decisions. Come on dr, you are great. You have been great for the program and have done more than most. You have unified fans........ against you. Yes, you have built a team. I am still waiting on what you would do if you were in charge. Have fun with it.
  20. dr, What ARE you saying is the problem? So far we have heard it is everything but the coaches. If you were named head coach tomorrow, what would you do to turn things around. Give us some details.
  21. dr, we got it. You love the current LC coaches. This debate is not about the moral fiber of these gentlemen nor if you and I know cover two or three. The debate is are these the right people to (re)build and run the LC program. I agree, several of the coaches have great potential, but somehow that potential is not turning into production. I am not calling for the firing of every coach or any coach for that matter. I told myself I wouldn't second guess the coaches, but I got caught up in the moment in our discussion and did just that so I want to get by to the point. My point has been all along, LC needs to impassionately analyze the program and determine the best for the PROGRAM. If the coaches are as good you claim, then they should be able to not only see the issues of players, facilities, administration support, etc, but be able to be self-critical. All good coaches are able to do so. Change starts with the leader. Again I want to say, the head coach is RESPOSIBLE for everything the program accomplishes or fails to accomplish. I believe this is all most LC fans want is for the coaching staff (and their followers) to recognize the program has not performed and quit blaming everyone except themselves. If coach White is able to do so, then great, I love to see young coaches succeed. However, if he is just working to keep his job, then maybe the LC fans are right in their assessment. Pantherman85, thanks for the job offer, but I am a little too old to get back into the game.
  22. You are correct, Maryville ran great routes. In cover two the safeties start on the hashes, take three read steps, then roll witth the offensive flow. When I said sit on the hashes, I meant from where they start. MANY times LC would run single receiver routes (to number 1 or 12) Also on the vaunted freshman team they ran single routes to Needham.
  23. dr, Again I disagree and so did a coach that was much better than I ever was. Bob Neyland applied many military skills and principals to football and yes they do apply. During his years at UT, he made it mandatory for his players to join ROTC to learn leadership. Just ask Coach Majors who was the operation officer for the ROTC department while he was a student.
  24. dr, I said LC runs an ISO fade, meaning there is no underneath route. That is the purpose. You run the fade to the weak side against cover two to catch the safety too far inside or you try to catch a corner trying to cover the slant and throw on the corner's turn to the outside. In cover two the safeties will sit on the hash marks and split the field in half, in three the strong safety roll up on the strong side with flat coverage and the corners and free safety have deep thirds. You seem to keep attacking personally and never address the issue.
  25. dr, Ask any military commander. Leaders are developed. Great leaders develop future leaders. If leaders are born, then we would breed for it, and not teach it. You miss the point. The coach IS responsbile for leadership. I agree with pantherman85. Coaches can identify leadership qualities, but then must develop those qualities. You can not just keep blaming everyone else for the lack of leadership in the LC program. To quote a great leader, GEN Bruce Clark said, "When looking for problems, start in ever increasing circles from your own desk".
