  1. True, I was telling people not to count wins before they happen. It had everything to do with counting a victory over Dobyns Bennett, not a down Sevier County, and perennial cellar dwellars Campbell County (I don't care what their record is now) and Knox Karns. I think your point to be insignificant since it deals with counting wins prematurely against teams that are collectivley under five hundred until SH meets DB in Kingsport. Jefferson County has McFall, and with him you can't count the Patriots out. That's why I said wait on Jefferson County too. I will say after Science Hill's debacle against South in their opener, when they beat a "bad Betsy squad" 28-7, everybody jumped back on Gilligans wagon. They asked him to beat TH and he couldn't. Ask me why and I couldn't tell you. I saw with my own eyes what Bearden has and it is something to see. Their defense is every bit as good as Dobyns Bennett's, played to a 0-0 tie after four quarters to prove it. If you try to use the Bearden/Farragut 35-28 gun slinger to take down Beardens defense, well thats just a usual Bearden/Farragut game, all bets aside. Thier quarterbacks a good one too. I know Coach Overbay, SH's defensive coordinator is good, but he is no Watson. That crazy old man has the magic. I guess we'll see what Overbay can do with him. I'm traveling to the game so if you can't make it I'll be glad to offer my full blown assesment. I still think DB beats SH in Gilligans inaugural game against DB at J.Fred. I think the man has a bit to learn about tradition in east Tennessee. TH showed him some, SH hasn't earned anything yet. Beat Bearden in Knoxville, that'll be a start. Then beat DB at the Fred and that'll be a step. I don't think SH can do either though. The man is not the savior you swore you'd look for. I will say he's alot better than your previous coach. Has the media on his side. Coal for the fire boys, coal for the fire!!!
  2. Ah heck, scratch my own post. I didnt take into account Rhea County or possibly Walker Valley moving up. Its difficult to project. Argh...
  3. That said Rhea Co. it looks like the TSSAA Reclassification Board might have to actually earn their money come reclassification time. Please explain sir, I'm interested.
  4. Potential Region 2-5A when Maryville moves up AND if any 4A school moves up into Region 1-5A 1. Maryville 2. William Blount 3. Heritage 4. Oak Ridge 5. Knox Farragut 6. Campbell County 7. McMinn County 8. Bradley Central Yeah, Ooltewah and Soddy Daisy would probably move to Region 3-5A since they only have 6 teams and the Chattanooga area schools have access to I-24 to get to Lincoln County, Coffee County, Warren County, Franklin County, and Cookeville while also having I-75 access to Cumberland County. Then potential Region 3-5A 1. Ooltewah 2. Soddy Daisy 3. Warren County 4. Franklin County 5. Coffee County 6. Lincoln County 7. Cumberland County 8. Cookeville
  5. Have heard on other threads that Maryville is moving up for sure.Does anybody know anything about Knox Powell, Knox West, Knox Central, Knox Halls enrollments or possibly moving up?
  6. One would think, punt return has cost them atleast one game already this season (William Blount).
  7. DB's remaining schedule: Dobyns Bennett (3-3, 1-1) OPEN WEEK @ Sevier County (2-4, 1-1) @ Knox Karns (1-5, 0-2) Campbell County (3-2, 1-0) Science Hill (3-2, 1-0) I think they get past Sevier County next week in Sevierville and we'll be looking at a 6-3 (4-1) DB squad battling a possibly 6-3/5-4 (4-1, 3-2) Science Hill ball club. I'm not allowing Science Hill to write off Jefferson County yet either, although the game is in Johnson City.
  8. True, DB can't take any team for granted. I think they do win out with the Science Hill game being a foggy far off prediction. I do agree with plowboy2, Clark over Gilligan. It might be a close one, but the Science Hill football boosters wont be happy at the end of the regular season again.
  9. My opinion, and this is just my opinion, is this is for the conference LEAD, not title. I believe Science Hill still has a school named Dobyns Bennett on their schedule with the game in Kingsport. If you can't beat Colonial Heights or Bristol, can you really write Dobyns Bennett off as a win prematurely? I believe conference #2 and #3 are decided the night of November 2nd in J.Fred Johnson Stadium. Bearden by 17.
  10. Although, if I remember correctly Knox Powell, Knox West, Knox Halls, and Clinton have beaten 5A teams themselves, albeit it somewhat bad ones this year, but I suppose that could add weight to Maryville's side of the argument.
  11. They play their region teams, nothing we can or anybody can do about that other than the TSSAA themselves by reclassifying them...like they should. Maybe the TSSAA should take a page out of the DI-AA book in college where a team that dominates for a consistant number of years, e.g. Marshall, moves up for competitions sake. Anyway, out of the out of conference games of Alcoa, Heritage, and William Blount, my personal opinion is they should only play William Blount. Heritage is never a contest and Alcoa is two classifications below Maryville, albeit they are a dominate force in 2A. Who do they add to their schedule then? Heck, for all intent and purposes why not add Hillsboro to the regular season schedule, they like to be challenged...even were willing to finish a game that ended in a tie. Add Oak Ridge, they've got a winning tradition. Add an out of state team that would grab the AP pollsters attention, not necessarily Hoover, AL but somebody worth mentioning. Am I wrong or Brandon100?
  12. William Blount by 14. Defense will hold Farragut down.
  13. Yes, Mount Juliet moving up for sure. Have friends in the community, the school is booming.
  14. Any information, throw it out there. I understand Daniel Boone and David Crockett are apt to move up from 4A to 5A. Anybody else know of moves up or down in any part of the state?
  15. DB goes into an OPEN week to prepare for the upcoming Sevier County game. Sevier County travels to Campbell County to take on an unpredictable Cougars club. I want to pick DB in this one, but want to hear from Smokey Bear fans first. Insights anyone?
  16. Although I know 5A DB and SH are good opponents for SS and TH to play, not to mention make money, I'd still like to see the 4A schools play other 4A schools like Knox West, Knox Central, Knox Halls to get better. I wonder if the TSSAA would ever consider making a rule where teams could only play out of conference games against teams in their own classifications. That would really be something...something bad overall, but might add some interesting matchups. I think South has done a good job preparing themselves out of conference wise against teams they may potentially face in the first three rounds with Daniel Boone and Greeneville, and making a statement by beating SH. Tennessee High always does well against SH, sometimes DB, but the tradition of the TH/VH game doesn't seem to get them any better prepared for the playoffs. Just my opinion. Love the pagentry of it though. I hope TH does keep the DB game alive, keep what I call the Tri-Cities Challenege (DB v. TH, DB v. SH, TH v. DB, TH v. SH, SH v. TH, SH v. DB) series alive. Maybe we should get a triangular trophy to award to the champion each year.
  17. I'm heading to Knoxville Friday to attend, have a day off and searching for Tennessee/Georgia tickets. I want to see how SH compares to region leader Bearden. I'll take Bearden by 17.
  18. True. I listened to the game on the radio. I will say SH underachieved, however TH did their part to get the victory. TH's defense played well. Apparently Coach Smith doesn't understand the area. He's 0-2 against Region 1-4A, albeit those teams are well rounded squads. I was at the DB/Elizabethton game at J.Fred, would have rather been at Memorial Stadium last night. Elizabethton looked like a JV team. I see SS with the best chance, simply for offense creativity. They can put points on the board quickly through the air and do a good enough job running the ball, whereas TH does a good job running the ball but appears to have no desire to put it in the air. Typical Stubbs though.
  19. Strictly from hearsay, newspaper articles, wins/losses and results, competition, and intuition I go with Morristown East this week. I agree it's anyones ball game. Good point PT.
  20. Good post. If we used the Ron Bliss Tri-CitiesSports.com NET Top 10 method to pick games their would never be any winners, as unpredictable as games have gone thus far. I think Greeneville takes this one, Volunteer seems to be doing a good job but has a few strides to take before getting over the proverbial hump.
  21. With Region 2-4A being unpredictable and Sullivan South and Tennessee High rolling through Region 1-4A is this the year the Rebels or Vikings could make playoff runs to get to Maryville in November? Yes, its early...but it's never to early to start talking!!! Harrumph!!!
