  1. We all knew Millington was the better team and I won't make any excuses. Munford turned the ball over the first 2 possessions inside the red zone and you can't do that against a team as good as Millington. Comparing Munford to Millington's set of athletes is a little misguided in that Millington is loaded again. I have said all along that Munford is young and inexperienced. That continues to be a bigger issue as the year goes along. However, I also believe the coaching staff will figure something out to give this bunch a chance to win. The youngsters need to come along quickly for them to have a decent region record. I do believe they have a core of players that could be special next year with a little experience and confidence. There is a lot of work to be done but agree with that Coach Randle is the right person to get them there. By the way Rob_M, my weekend was pretty much the results I expected although I have more hope for the Cougars than Tigers at this point.
  2. Munford's Defense actually did pitch a shut out on that game. The scores were from a kick-off return and an interception from the second string QB returned for a touchdown. Munford was going in to score when the interception return happened. Not trying to shore up Munford for the game tonight but give credit where it is due. As far as the "Trogan" work, I wouldn't doubt it was not from the visiting team. Kids seem to have too much time these days! Look forward to the game and let's hope it is a nailbiter for all of us fans. GO COUGARS!
  3. I guess at least I get to worry 2 nights in a row! The outcome will probably be consistant with history for both the high school and college level but that's why we play. Just every once in a while a little magic, good luck or whatever you call it comes to the rescue for the underdog. Let's hope the genie is in a Munford/Memphis bottle this weekend but at a minimum all of the participants come out of it healthy. GO COUGARS/TIGERS
  4. You are correct about the school in question up north. The other is still considered a South Tiptonite. I'm not sure where the normal crew is but it has been a tough preseason. The crowds will definately be there on Friday night and I think it could be a competitive game. If the Trojans take off early then it might not be as fun! I heard there was some pre-game activity last week from some of the Millington groups (don't know if it was players or not) and I hope we don't have any of that at the game. Back yard rivalries should be fun and about the game not something in or around the stands (on both sides). You correct about my interest in Oxford but it is for one night only. I'm afraid it may go the same as our Friday night match up but I'll be at that one wearing BLUE. T-County tends to be "Orange" but you see more Tiger Blue than you used to... Of course you see more during basketball. Look forward to the game and seeing you folks from Shelby County.
  5. That's a good question on the Munford side since most of the players are making their first starts or significant playing time. They have good athletes across the board but who steps up will be a concern all season. Running back by committee, QB has decent arm and the lineman are generally big. Hope it doesn't sound like we aren't proud of them but since the RB had to transfer the rest of the team wouldn't draw big names. Coaches do a good job of making them a team so it might turn out to be a good thing, we do expect next year to not have so many unknowns! Not much help but this is the way I see it.
  6. Agreed, we don't read much into the scoreboard so don't worry about our side. Millington deserves their top ranking and we expect them to be as good as last year. All we can do is show up and play hard.
  7. They did some work this summer and it looked really good last Friday. I would bet that someone would be from the North end of the county and they aren't usually real complimentary... To their credit, it was rough towards the middle to end of last season but I don't think it will be a problem.
  8. The 2 touchdowns by Northside in the first half was a interception returned for a TD and a kick return. I'm not sure how I would compare Henry and Millington since both are physical and have dominating running attacks. I think last year it could have depended on where the game was played. We expect a big crowd and hopefully folks will come enjoy the game without some of the other issues that arise with a rivalry. I feel the same way about Millington going all the way through the season except for this one of course. Good luck and let's hope no one gets injured since we both have a full season ahead of us.
  9. Nope, it was nice that some of the Millington team showed up and sat on the visitor's side. I mean that, it was kinda cool to see them getting ready for the game this week. I still think Munford is exceptionally young with little experience. They will always play hard and be well coached. The win was important for such a young team but things will have to be much different in the next one.
  10. Agree completely. This was going to be transition year regardless of injuries or other losses. I believe they will do everything possible to get the kids ready and even if this year has it's share of losses there will be a large set of experienced players returining for next year.
  11. Must agree with the observation from cam6 and the challenges outlined by wtnoff. Not sure about the injury from Jamboree so I'm not sure how it plays out. I know the coaches are trying to press the right buttons to get the younger players to step up but it is a test every day. Hopefully the Memphis Northside game will add some experience and create some momentum but if it turns out to be a loss then it will be hard to get this young team to believe they have a shot against Millington. Depth alone is starting to be a problem and it gets worse when you're talking about back-ups to Jrs or Sophs that didn't hardly play last year. This will be the toughest year yet for the coaching staff and that includes the loss of a coach from last year with no replacement. Regardless, the Munford faithfull will be there to support!
  12. Your predictions seem about right to me although I'm not sure about Munford holding Northside scoreless. We played Haywood in our Jamboree game and they (Haywood) continue to be big and show some athletic ability. They beat us 14-0 in 2 qtrs but we had the typical missed passes and other miscues that result in the first game. No scrimmages so this was the first time the team went against someone other than classmates. Haywood's running backs were good (not great) and their defensive line was large. Good luck to JCM and I hope it goes your way.
  13. Young (meaning inexperienced) line, quarterback and other skill positions in conjunction with injuries/transfers (due to death in family) makes this one a tough, tough game for the Cougars. Not sure if it will be close after the opening kick off but agree with WT, if they stay close then it could get interesting... Millington should run away with it but the Munford kids will certainly put up a fight.
  14. Yanker - I think we will need to stay out of this one, I'm not sure who from HC is right or wrong or sensitive or not sensitive or at practice or not at practice or an expert or not an expert or Stevie Wonder or Marvin Gay (oops, I don't think he was mentioned)... shoot I can't keep up. Let an outsider tell you that HC is darn good, won the region last year, will likely win the region this year and has a shot to make it at least as far in the playoffs last year... at this point. When things get settled on the field then we will be able to tell where there may be a weakness, strength or other wise. Injuries will be the most important part and will make or break a season. Last I heard, you don't have to win every game by a lot of points just win enough to take home the gold. Good luck and don't be so hard on each other. Heck, the region must be bad since HC posters have to pick on each other... Maybe that's another good sign for Big Red?????? By the way, I am not promoting picking a fight with the rest of us just thought I would mention the obvious.
  15. Not a problem! Since we really don't scrimmage I think this game is a warm up that we generally believe we can win. We've played them for the past 2-3 years prior to Millington. Should be an interesting year and I hope the Red Fans can come to some concensus on the Henry County team. I know all of the kids across the region are working hard and getting better. High School football is not life or death and it should be a pride and entertainment thing for all of us that sit in the stands.
  16. Just a quick note, Munford plays Memphis Northside to open the season. Millington is our second game and their first. Don't know that I would change the results but we're hoping to have one win before that game.
  17. For those of us on the bottom we don't have to argue, we can only go up or stay the same so we don't need to worry about the State Championship before we play a game. Rebuilding does take some pressure off! Big Red will be fine and I think it is hard on the fan base when it's not a question of being better than the region but better than the rest of the state. I see both sides of the sensitive/positive and realistic/negative but don't see bashing. Everyone has an opinion and some worry while others are excited about the potential. Coaches have a way to fix or mask problems and you have a great set there. It might not be undefeated but does it really matter if you get a chance at the end? Good luck and wish the rest of us a few moral victories.
  18. I was not suggesting anything about the HC transfer and understand completely how he got there. Transfers happen everyday across the region. I don't "question" HC's morals or ability to attrack good players for any reason. Where a kid chooses to go to school is a personal choice that may include moving if the parents want to do it. I wouldn't do it but my situation is different and football isn't the only way out for my children. As long as a kid lives in the district and can prove their status then what can you do but move on. As far as the rest of your concerns with Munford then I can't address them one way or another. Understand the difference but every coach has the right to participate or not. If there is a TSSAA rule on it then I guess they would have to do the same thing. Not sure any coach has to explain it or not, I make it a point not to interfere with any coach's approach unless there are serious implications to the kids. I can see it would be inconvenient and seem like non-cooperation but I don't allow them to question how or what I do for a living either.... Northside will be really good. Better then Liberty and I actually mentioned the wrong Jackson school in my earlier post. I assume HC plays at Northside this year and that could be the toughest district game they face. Should be a fun season and I'll leave comments about transfers alone. It appears to be a re-occuring theme on the board and it really isn't worth much more coverage. Good luck to all.
  19. Considering the talent that is new to Henry County via transfer this year, I find it amusing that you can't start a thread without the Munford comment. Is it because you lost to Munford one time, 2 years ago? Let it go, you are the region champs, earned the title and will be until something happens (like a region loss). Liberty will be dangerous with their talent coming back, Brighton is always a mystery and I know Hardin has the athletes and coaches to win the 2nd slot. JCM is on the road back but you have to guess it will take more than this year to make a big difference although they have athletes and with good coaching could surprise a few teams. It's all in a race for 2, 3 & 4. Munford, as said many times, is young and inexperienced. They play Haywood in the Jamboree so we won't expect great things for that practice but will hope to show some potential. Replacing a Sr QB is always tough, trying to do it with almost a completely new O-Line makes it even tougher. The good news is that Jrs and Sophs will get a load of experience for next year. Good luck to all the teams and let's hope for a competitive, injury free (or at least major) and fun season.
  20. I don't think anyone doubts HC (except Yanker) has the ingredients to be a great team. It's the part about "anything can happen in a long season", "on paper today" and high school kids being ingredients to a state championship that makes it interesting. Hope the red juice is non-toxic and has no after effects! Just kidding with you, good luck and from the rest of the poor, uncompetitive region we'll see ya during the year.
  21. Welcome back! It is great to see the Yanker back online. That tells me football is really ready to start! Hope all is well with family, friends and JCM.
  22. Impressive and we certainly did have the wrong name! Looks like the rich get richer and should be a fun year for the big red machine. Look forward to seeing you in Munford and hope all goes well (until then of course). We all know there are bumps in the road over a season and if you can get by those then all will end well. This certainly does nothing to change my predictions and let's hope every kid stays healthy and every fan stays within reason! See ya down the road.
  23. I read on another thread that he played at Rockcastle County in Kentucky but maybe they have the wrong name since they list him as a freshman. Here's the info on the roster from Rockcastle last year: 24 Dakota McFerron TB 5-7 143 FR Just thought I would offer the info, if it's wrong then my apologies.
  24. If the name is right then you are also correct about his high school. Here is the line from last year (no stats): 24 Dakota McFerron TB 5-7 143 FR Probably bigger, stronger, faster this year (again, assuming that is the right name).
  25. There is no doubt in my mind that Olddevil is right about the hire but it goes to show how folks want to go on and on about anything they can find. I've seen the Munford team and while they have potential I wouldn't say that the team reflects the constant banter about transfers. Must mean that some are concerned about them again and starting to load up the "excuses" before a game is played. As I said in an earlier post, young and inexperienced so it will be hard to tell how good or bad until they play a few games. Even then you will see the same roller coaster week to week that every football fan expects. Henry is on top until they lose in region and Liberty may well be the next best. Has anyone heard anything about Hardin?
