  1. 1 Clarkrange 2 JC 3 PC 4 Clay Co 5 RBS 6 Monterey PC and Clay co could switch on that for sure, but I believe in Coach Smith's second year, he is gonna have this group of girls playing together.
  2. Hey coacht, I bought a subscription to coacht plus a little over 4 days ago, and it still won't let me access the plus or off season boards. Let me know something coacht.
  3. Fanatic, man its gonna be fun to watch, all these young schools chase the senior lead Clay Co. Jackson Co and PC are both gonna be real young. RBS and Monterey could easily be fighting over 2nd place with Clarkrange this year. Can't wait to see how things play out by the 2nd half of the 09/2010 season, when these young teams mature. District 7A is in good hands.
  4. Learn to use spell check first off. And here is what I'm saying. If Garrett is outscored by one or even two of his teammates, then no, he shouldn't get MVP. If there overall numbers besides scoring are better than his, then NO he shouldn't get MVP, his teammate or teammates and Upchurch should be inconsideration for it. Fanatic will know better than me, but were there some of Cassetty's teammates that had better numbers than he did? Like maybe Crowder? I have no clue that's why I'm asking. I think if you give it to a guy on the best team, it should atleast be the best player and leading scorer on that team. If Garrett averages 15pts and 10rebs a game, and Clay Co wins district, and say one of his teammates don't have better numbers, then sure, he deserves MVP, even if Upchurch averages like 23pts and 8rebs a game. Although I think if Upchurch has something like 23pts, 10rebs, and 6 or 7ast a game, then he deserves it hands down. Call this award whatever you want, but it deserves to go to the best player in the district, regardless of your teams finish. They should really change the name of the award to MTP (most talented player) or best player award, to get rid of the confusion. People say numbers have nothing to do with it....well I believe numbers are part (no all, but part) of the process of gauging a players talent. Sure leadership means something, but I think numbers and defense mean more to this award, not necessarily to the game. You want to consider the entire game, I think Upchurch plays better defense than Garrett, and is a better leader, so if his numbers are better.....to me, then he has beat Garrett in all three of the important categories. Notice I said better leader, Garrett is a good leader too, just think Upchurch is better.
  5. Ok, apparently i'm not making myself clear. I know that MVP is not souly the reason someone gets MVP, but if you look back over the years, name the MVP's, you'll find that if they did not lead the district in scoring, they were definitely in the top five. Listen, I'm not trying to take anything away from Tyler Cassety, guy was a good player, I played golf against him in high school, nice kid. But don't assume that Wright won or would have won the year prior because of only scoring. Wright meant as much or more to his team. Cassety's supporting cast was much better than Wright's, expect for probably TC Capps (when he could stay in ball games). Simply switch places with the two, Cassety on PC's team and they struggle to score points, Wright on JC's team and they might have won state. Look, Cassety was good at what he did on his team, and Wright was good at what he had to do for his team. 50% of it MVP numbers, you can mean everything to your team, and have awful numbers and get nothing. Sorry that I didn't know he scored a 1000 pts, my mistake. Listen I'm not trying to get in an argument over 2 or 3 years ago, that stuff is long gone, simply trying to use it for comparison. fanatic, I guarantee both of them would trade the hardware for a state tournament trophy. The whole thing about this is for the whole debate of who MVP should be this 2008/09 season. I personally think it should be Upchurch as of right now, given that he was the second best player in district 7 last year behind Wright. If Garrett's numbers and leadership prove me wrong then, ok. But we can't simply say Garrett gets it because his team wins district, because we know his supporting cast is much, much better than Upchurch's.
  6. Wright scored 22 a game his junior year, usually guarded (and guarded well) one of the other teams best guards every night, was the point guard, team leader, averaged 7 something assists a game. Wright had like 2200 something points in his career, Cassetty probably had like 700 pts or something. That right their tells me who's better. Listen, I say do whatever your team calls for. Cassetty had to do whatever was best for his team, and his best was average at best, most certainly not mvp worthy. Play good point guard, protect the ball, get it to the shooters and play defense. But folks he only averaged like 5 assists a game. Now was he a bum who couldn't play ball or something?, no he was a good player. Wright's team needed him to score 20 or 25 a night, needed him to dish out 7 or 8 assists a game. That's a great player, an MVP player. Upchurch has to go out and score 25 or 30 a night for his team to even be within ten points of any other players team. I'm not making this a numbers game. But if say Garrett avg 10 pts, 8 boards a game, and Upchurch avg 26 pts and 8 boards a game, then I kinda see who is more deserving. Or a better example is this, you take those two players and you take them and their stats away from their teams, and who is hurting more? Obviously its Clarkrange. Clay Co without Garrett, they probably still win 7a this year, though its probably a lot closer. Clarkrange without Upchurch is worse than Hermitage Springs used to be. Same with Wright and Cassity two years ago. Jackson Co is probably no worse without Cassetty, which I think they proved last year when they made it to state without him. PC without Jacob Wright that year, isn't finishing 3rd in the district. Just something to think about. I'm not trying to start anything, I'm just trying to get coach's to make intelligent decisions. It's gonna be fun to watch both Upchurch and Garrett play this year......both are deserving of MVP as it stands right now.
  7. As far as I know, KY has nothing like this.....I've searched all over the internet and found nothing worth using. I like southern KY basketball, mostly Clinton Co. Ky, and try and keep up with it, wouldn't mind having a coacht for Ky to make it easier......something to think about coacht.
  8. Coacht, I love Tennessee's format. I love that you can finish fourth in district tournament and still make the state tournament. I think it gives the under dog a chance. I think Indiana and Kentucky's formats are just simply crazy. Well I kinda like the format, but I hate the 1 champion, because I think it is totally unfair for a major private school who can recruit its players, to play a public school of say 200 or 300. In fact the only instance I know of where a small school has made it to the state finals is Clinton Co. Ky's girls team making it to the finals, but that team had three future D-1 players. I like the format. Personally I think we should have 5 classes still as we do now with A, AA, AAA, D-1 A and AA, but make all private schools be in either AA, AAA, or D-1. Single A should be for public schools only. My personal opinion, would give smaller schools a chance since they wouldn't have to play private schools who recruit. Hey coacht, I know we have coacht for Alabama and of course TN, so when we getting one for a true basketball state like Kentucky, I'm patiently waiting.
  9. Clay should be the best team in 7a, they are the oldest team in 7a. Garrett is one of the best players in 7a, no doubt, he is really good. But Upchurch should win district MVP, but he probably won't because some out there in 7a, think that district MVP should go to the best player on the best team. And we all saw that it was crazy two years ago for Cassetty to beat out Jacob Wright. Sure Jackson Co. had the best regular season, and they were rewarded by being the Tri-Lakes Conference Champions. Just because your the best team should have nothing to do with individual awards. I think it should in the 1st team all district, 2nd team all district and so forth, but not MVP. If your the best player in 7a, and you have the best numbers, then you should win MVP. Because you can be the greatest player in the state, and if you have no help then there is no way you can win district. Listen, most of the time the coaches get it right (other than two years ago) and if Garrett has better numbers than Upchurch, then he deserves the MVP, but if he doesn't, then no matter what Upchurch's team does, he should win MVP. Good luck to both.
  10. Grace lost McMasters so that will surely hurt them, atleast a little. Temple will be good, for sure, Sexton is the real deal, best player in the state imo. They will be one of the top teams in the state. But still, whoever comes up to 7A will have a big time task on their hands to win. Its not just that easy. CSAS a couple of years ago was an exception, not the rule. Look at last year, CSAS was definately the better team up here against Jackson Co. but still lost. Whether its Clay Co., Jackson Co. or Pickett Co. Chatt teams will have a tough time coming up here. Not saying its impossible, buts its almost impossible.
  11. One its not Bibbs, its Coach Bibb. Yeah, his supporting cast wasn't as good as it has been in the past, and anyone can lose a game at anytime, and thats what happened. JC outplayed PC for one game last year, can happen to the greatest of teams. Tract record over the last four years has proven in favor of Bibb.....not that I'm saying that Edwards is crap, he is a good coach, and like I said numberous times, he outcoached Bibb in that win @ Clay last year. Yeah PC has a great basketball program, no doubt about that....I use the district championship games since '91 to show that even in down years PC is still very good, so don't underestimate them, simply all I am saying. Still Clay should be expected to be favorites.
  12. I'm setting here saying that in 06 people looked at all PC lost and said they were gonna be down. PC went to substate that year with sophomores and one junior, went to substate the next year with juniors and one senior....Last year they under achieved badly. So that proves what I said about winning with a younger team. I'm not saying this year we are gonna win anything, no guarantees, i'm just simply saying they will be good by years end. and PC had three 1,000 point scorers. Golf takes just as much time for practicing as football does, and there are boys who play football and basketball. Don't deminish golf, just because you don't understand or play the game. I'm sure your one of those people who doesn't understand what it takes to play. Do you understand that PC has been in the district championship since '91? I'm not making excuses or bragging, but don't just think that PC is gonna fall off the face of the earth.
  13. Jackson was tops in the regular season in 07, PC won District tourny, Region Tourny and played in substate, I guess if you want to get technical, they were Co Top Dogs in 07 and 08.....that better for ya?
  14. I'm not bad mouthing Clay Co or Coach Edwards.....Edwards is a good coach, just not as good as Flynn or Bibb....its not like I'm calling him dirt or something awful like that. As for Clay co. I'm not bad mouthing them, they just under achieve except when they have the seniors and everyone else doesn't. Look at the last few years, the record speaks for itself. They should and probably will be the team in 7A this year. As for Pickett Co. not having three sport athletes? where are you getting your information? PC has had a lot of three sport athletes, in some seasons four. Lance Mason, Nathan Groce in '05 where both three sport athletes, Brett Roddy was all but his senior year. Jacob Wright, James Gibson off last years team were both three sport athletes. Probably the last senior class to not have any two or three sport athletes was 02 with Aaron and Crouch. People from PC play golf mostly instead of football, so maybe thats why you think that. There are some of the ball players who do play football too. Most of the kids who play basketball also play baseball, so most of the basketball boys are atleast two sport athletes, with several three sport athletes mixed in. So sorry, you can't use that as an excuse. PC has always been, and always will be a Basketball town, and that will always be the kids main focus, so maybe you can use that for your excuse, i don't know. And shaun garrett, he is taller than 6'1". I gave Edwards credit for beating us last year, I said he outcoached Bibb, but just in that one game. Over the course of the offseason, regular season, and playoffs, Bibb and Flynn are simply better.
  15. '04 was the first time they had beat us since '97....and before that it was like maybe late 80's before they beat us in '97....PC dominated LA for a long time....and still is beating them here and there now. LA made State in AA, and have the students to be AAA....I mean geez, shouldn't they beat PC? If PC had like 6 middle schools to pick players from, we'd be dominant too. PC does more with less than any other school in the state.
  16. Jackson Co. and Pickett Co. both lost alot. Clay will probably be the best team, but really......shouldn't they be? I don't know what Jackson Co. is gonna look like, but they lost alot of starters off that state tournament team. PC, lost the best player in 7a over the last 3 years argubly, they also lost 2 other 1,000 point scorers. They only return 2 guys who both started. They are definately rebuilding. But they have got atleast 3 transfers, a couple of kids coming up who can be good as sophomores. If you notice, Clay is only at the top of the district when PC and JC are down. In '05 PC was top, they had the seniors that year.....'06 Clay was tops, they had all seniors....'07 PC was on top with juniors, Clay was distant third.......'08 PC won regular season and district tournament with seniors, and JC won region and went to state with seniors, Clay got no hardware last year with those good juniors. This year they will dominate early because the other two teams are gonna be in a learning mode, but I think they both catch up towards seasons in. Bibb and Flynn are better coaches than Edwards....because they do more with younger players than Edwards can.
  17. I have never heard of this guy, of course I was like 4 years old or something then. I only remember the last ten years or so.....I barely remember Jo Amonette. But I'm sure this guy was good. Ya know, Nathan was great, top ten all time, probably top 5. But he was mostly just a scorer in my eyes. And let me pose this question, if he were as great as say Mitchell and Amonett then why did they play D1 college ball and he play NAIA? ya know? That's why i give them a notch, plus those two and Eugene won a Mr. Basketball award.
  18. The best players is what is was, scoring went alot into that discussion. I have said Jo Amonette, Eric Mitchell and Eugene Paris where probably the three greatest of all time, I used them because of 1) Top 5 all time scoring, 2) Because they all led their teams to State titles and 3) They all three won Mr. Basketball Awards. As far as the best defensive player, I don't know really.....the best that I really remember and watched, was either Luke Mason, or Josh Tompkins....again those are really the only great ones I saw. Quickest I ever saw where either Andy Asberry or Tompkins.....best athlete, probably Adam Asberry. Again these are ones I have seen, I mean I'm only 22 so I haven't been around forever.....these are just the ones I remember.....who are yours?
  19. Well he left this morning to go on Senior Trip with the Senior class to Florida but other than that Noone has said anything to me, and I usually hear about this stuff pretty quick. I'm gonna guess no truth to that, because him and his wife basically have cake jobs here, he's assistant principle and does some driver's ed and P.E. classes, she does Special ED. She also coaches the girl's softball team. The last I've heard is they have been trying to sale their house in Livingston, but that was because they are wanting to move to Pickett Co. Like I said I haven't heard anything. I think he really likes it here, and I think unless its just an awesome job he would be leaving for, he would be crazy to leave.....PC is one of the best jobs around in the Upper-cumberland especially, because 1) single A is easier than other classes to win, obviously 2) Pickett Co has been good for 20 years, and continues to be (they will be down a little next year) but this job is one that a lot of coaches go out and look for, and 3) Pickett Co is crazy about its High school Basketball and have a really good support and fan base. Just depends on if Bibb is getting offered big money from a big school somewhere else. I guess if a school from Ky around where he grew up was looking for a coach, he might be interested, I just don't know. One more thing about White Co vs PC.......reguardless of who is better right now, these two teams are definately (over the past 20 years or so) the best two programs in the upper-cumberland.
  20. Well Pickett Co never plays watertown other than maybe occasionally in the region tourny. Van Buren is tougher than they used to be. White Co. is better than Pickett Co, especially next year.....but shouldn't they be? I mean really? They have AAA student numbers......Pickett Co. has less than 200 students, so that Pickett Co. can produce tallent to even hang with AA and AAA schools, is why I've always been a PC fan. White Co won that game last year, but PC was in it the whole game, PC was without TC Capps, and Bibb sat Jacob Wright for getting a tech, for like the entire last quarter. But White Co. should have won that game anyway. PC will be rebuilding next year, just like every team in 7A (with the exception of Clay Co).....but they won't be as bad as everyone thinks. They will get off to a slow start at first....but should be ok by tourny time (not saying they will make it out of region or anything). Everyone said the same stuff about PC when Josh Wright and Bailey graduated with all those other seniors......that next group was pretty good. WC runs away from PC this year though.
  21. Yeah, they get 17 to 20k, but you have to take something else into consideration that is different between the two states. TN has 5 classifications if I'm right. Div II A-AA, Div I A-AA-AAA, KY has 1 classification. Big schools, little schools, public schools, private schools. KY does have this thing called the All "A" Classic. Which is schools under 500 students are involved in, but its not the real state title. This gives you a true winner sure, but is it really fair to say that a team is better just because they are bigger and have a larger population of students to choose their athletes from. I mean its rare that an A school can compete with a AAA school, (Union City this year is probably an exception), and I doubt any single A school could beat Div II schools. I think how Ky does it really kills small schools, for example I'm from Pickett Co. we are in the thick of state tournament talk yearly, with a gym full of district, region and state tournament banners, with less than 225 students, But the neighboring KY Co. (Clinton Co.) which has somewhere between 400-500 students, has one pic of their boys team from 1960 something (the last time they either made or won region). That just seems wrong, because if Clinton Co. was in TN, in district 7, they might have a couple of state tournament trophies, def. a few appearances. I rant about this a little bit because I think small schools should compete with teams of similar size. Thats why for years I have been harping on big schools from AA moving down to single A (because of TSSAA moving them), and private schools in single A (I'm sorry, but I see something wrong with schools being able to pick their students in single A, that is a big adv. in A ball, in AA and AAA it doesn't make that much different). I think thats why I'm such a big PC fan, because teams like Union City(not really talking about this year cause they beat everyone), CSAS, many other teams, move down and can dominate smaller schools, but PC with 225 students, continues to be a fixture in the A post season. I would like to see us change the format a little, maybe not exactly like KY though.....Maybe only the top two teams from district move on, then you have 4 teams in regions, first game is just like second round is now, single elimination, then the finals are the same format, with the winner hosting their substate and loser traveling. leave state the same. I think this would eliminate these silly play-in games for the first round of region, I hate those games, either play them at the site of region, or get rid of them.....also think we need to play more than two games per night during district and regions.......but, it will never happen though because the greedy TSSAA would lose money on the loss of games. But I like it better. Your right, JC won and won the right to be in the state tournament, but I think everyone knew they didn't belong their.
  22. Well PC fans, the cats run has come to an end and the future looks dim. Losing to JC is another loss to add to the all-time worst losses ever. I think Bibb needs to revamp his coaching style this off season. I mean I'm no expert coach or anything but his teams just haven't been physical enough. Other then Jacob's sophomore year, they have under achieved every year. The only year their season has ended before it should have was that same year. Year 1) out in region semi's shouldn't have lost to westmoreland 2) state quarters, shouldn't have lost to wayne co 3) substate away Grace Bap, lost and should have 4) substate home lost to CSAS, shouldn't have 5) region semi's lost to JC, shouldn't have. Bibb needs to get back to doing what PC did best when Brent Smith and E Mitchell were coaching, and thats running the full court offense, making the half-court sets the 2nd option. We're gonna have to focus of defense next year, because I don't think we're gonna be able to out-score anyone. We better get a lot tougher. PC's baseball team only lost 3 starters from last year, but two of them were pitchers. There line-up should be ok. I think them losing in the region and them having two weeks of extra practice will help them get ready for the season. Jeremiah Copeland is gonna be the best pitcher. Jacob Wright may be #2 and he only throws in the mid 50's, but he's more of a knuckleballer. They might get a couple of younger players to step in. PC's problem will be their head coach. Matt Walker has never played, and knows nothing of baseball. We can only hope that assitant Coach D. Roddy has a lot of say in the program.
  23. I think Jackson Co. could probably lose their substate game, but I'll be rooting for them anyway, thats how much I dislike Chatt. teams. Flynn had his boys ready to play, I could see the spark in their eyes from the very begining. They looked a lot like PC did last year when they beat JC in the region semi's. PC came out flat, soft, and with no fire in their eye what so ever. They looked like they were just gonna cruise into the state tournament. Can't play like that. Bibb's boys came out so weak, made me sick to watch them play last night. JC got physical with them ( I thought the refs let them get away with a little too much, and didn't let PC get away with some stuff) and they decided they weren't gonna get physical back. I was really disappointed in the cats effort last night, Jacob never got in a rhythm or looked like he had a sense of urgency, and the role players didn't do anything. Future looks dim for us PC fans. Congrats again JC you earned it, represent the U-C well. Maybe this loss helps PC baseball program in the long-run, cause they have two extra weeks of practice, haha.
  24. Congrats to Jackson Co. you earned the win tonight, you were just simply better. I think PC saw Westmoreland beat Clay and thought they were gonna have a easy ride to substate. Flynn just out coached Bibb, he basically said you're gonna have to beat me with your other players and they couldn't do it. Gibson and Logan were a non-factor. Congrats JC, hope you all have a good rest of the season.
