  1. Then perhaps it is time for you to start referring to Riverdale as "they" and not "we." You talk enough trash about them to certainly qualify as an opponent, not a supporter.
  2. So now you comment on how the man looks? Good grief, that is pathetic. I agree, I wish the article had not been written and can be seen as insulting to the current players. However, the writer did not say how the question was asked, thus setting Aydelott up a little. If he asked "why do you think the talent is down?" implying that the talent is down and the coach responds, versus asking "why do you think the season is off to such a bad start?" and Aydelott answers with "the talent is down because of rezoning" it changes things dramatically. Of course you whiners will see it as insulting to the current players and worry about hurting their feelings. I would look at it as a clear message to work harder and get better. But that's all on the coach right? I'm sure they have not been working hard at all for 6 years.
  3. I have no idea, so maybe someone can fill us in or if you do, please share. Have there been schools built where Alcoa is since Rankin got there?
  4. I don't think anyone has a roster below 22. All is good. No air practices.
  5. McGavock has far beyond that and has had over 3000 students the past years. I guess they had the wrong coach every year since they have been open since they have never done much at all in football? Nah, thats not it. Many of the privates and surrounding counties started getting a lot better in football after McGavock opened because many families sent their kids to private schools or left the county to surrounding counties to avoid the size of the school, or the mix or students, or busing, aging housing, or a whole number of reasons. Even with 3000 students, the true football talent was fairly thin. There have been some exceptional years in other sports, but not so much in football. All those kids, and I think there have only been a couple of players to play pro football. But they have huge numbers, so there must be talent, right? Quality not quantity, folks.
  6. Who is talking about control of the offense? Not me. To put it a little more clearly, what I was saying is that he has not physically run a play in a game in a very long time. As I said, Aydelott is the man replacing the man (Rankin). Its a spin off from a saying a few years ago about coaches not wanting to be the man to replace the man (when that guy is hugely successful). Riverdale will certainly have quite a few resumes to chose from.
  7. 12 pages, hundreds of posts, thousands of views...not a bad thread started by an old timer. I must say I'm pretty disappointed in the quality of the insults. I expected more out of Coacht posters. Some stole from the internet and movies, so just chimed in with "yea, what he said" and others seem stuck on a strange fixation with men's balls and bags and getting animals and men into their laps. I guess the talent is down on Coacht just like it is at Riverdale. Have a great evening folks. You can sleep safe and sound, Barney is on patrol and his bullet is ready.
  8. Finally someone showing a little common sense. I actually agree with you. I have never said it was just the drop off in talent, but that is a big factor in it. There are some on here that say its all the coach, good or bad. That's just stupid. While Quarles is a great coach, he hasnt run a high school play in years, nor has Aydelott. If you ignore the talent level and go straight to blaming the coach, you are being both ignorant and unfair to the coach and ultimately being a divisive element that is detrimental to the program. That is not being a fan, no matter how many games you may have played in or sat through for the previous however many years. Aydelott was the guy that replaced the guy. Some Riverdale "fans" didnt like his metro back ground, or his preferred offense, or his hair color for all I know. They bad mouthed him for years, almost from day one. The talent is down at Riverdale. Now they are not the only football game in town by a long shot. Rankin saw it coming and left. True top athletes are spread pretty thin around the county. from what I know of him, Aydelott is too stubborn for his own good sometimes and has not done near enough to mend fences and build bridges and get the community behind him. I cant say I blame him too much because if some of these people on here that present themselves as such lowlifes are any representation of who he would be mending fences with, why in the world would he? However, by not doing so, he gave the "naysayers" all the more reason to whine, gripe, and complain. The players started hearing it and believing it too, even though the guy is a top quality coach with a career to be proud of. The talent thinned out with re-zoning and thinned even more after some started to believe that Aydelott couldn't coach and they found their way into other programs.
  9. Careful Barney, Gomer is going to get you..."Citizens arrest! Citizens arrest!" It's both sad and funny that you post at 2:47 am trying to get the last word. Sure, you work nights, or have insomnia, or some other random excuse. You are pedantic and boring. Stop wasting my time. I am not responding to your immature foolishness any more and will only address you when you actually post something of merit that is germane to the thread. To everyone else - busy day at the golf course today fellas, see you this evening. Have fun without me. And now chimes in the choir of the easily offended and negative and narrow minded "thank goodness, and good riddance." To which I remind you, I started this thread and it looks like its becoming a good one. Pile it on good while I am away.
  10. Riverdale does appear to be headed down, as many including myself, have predicted. We just predicted it based on a different premise. I never thought of basic math as anything fancy, but I can see how it would impress you. Get your bullet out Barney.
  11. You are only partially correct. While true IB courses do not start until the jr year, students in the IB program have to be in Honors or pre IB courses. If they do not maintain certain grades in those courses, they never get to take the IB courses starting their junior year. They have now lost their reason for being at a school they are not zoned to, and TSSAA does have an issue with that if they are playing sports there. While your friend's suggestion sounds good, it does not work out to well for the IB school. Students being students make friends and settle in. Most who were once going to be IB students find that the AP choices of most schools are more than challenging enough, gives a broader education and exposure than IB, gets them college credit at most universities including all TN Board of Regents schools, with a certain test score, where IB you risk not getting anything until you get the diploma, and they have made friends that they don't want to leave. Other IB schools tried it that way and it didnt work out. Its up to the IB Board how many schools in a geographic area can be IB. Metro has 2 now, I think. Hillsboro and Hunters Lane. I think some others may have applied.
  12. It is my contention that cumulative effect of both feeder school and high school zoning changes has significantly thinned the athletic herd at Riverdale. I am sure there are a slew of individual reasons for individual families and players, but most schools lose some players no matter what. Rankin realized what was going to happen as new schools were coming along and left for greener pastures. Because many thought the program was all about Rankin, the players started looking around for the next big program and trickled away. The trickle turned into a flood when the zoning changes came along. Now, what were once all Riverdale athletes are now at least two other schools, possibly more, but i have not studied the zoning maps all that closely to say precisely.
  13. I dont have access to the records that would prove it. I have a feeling just my saying this will have your boys making sure to clean up. Don't panic yet, but the word is out there. You guys just have to make sure that any football players that filled out the paper work to come to Oakland for the IB program are actually in the IB program and taking IB courses, and on track to graduate with an IB diploma. If they are not, then they have to go back to their zoned school. Simple. If they are not and they continue to play, you could have a messy little problem. Its not usually too many players, it is the IB program, for Pete's sake.
  14. Was 2011 luck? It was a dang good season. How quickly we forget.
  15. And we have now heard from Barney Fife again..."yea, what he said, you tell him, Andy!(Rebelron)." From what I know of him, Aydelott has never been concerned about huge sidelines. Blade at Indy is the same way. Lots of coaches don't want the headache or expense of extra bodies standing around that will never step on the field.
  16. Coaching is definitely important. Motivation is as well. I have never said anything contrary to that. Do you recall how many players went on to play college ball during the 10 years of no playoff wins?
  17. Again, that's just foolish because destroying programs would show up in the win/loss column
  18. Stay calm, LOD. You gave a long list of all your health issues. You probably need to sit this argument out. And no, no reason to give up. you only need to be reasonable in your expectations and understand like any reasonable sports fan does that programs go up and down, especially when new schools open up and split the truly talented players apart. Your argument is really against growth and the decision to keep schools below 2500 students. Think what untouchable teams would come out of Rutherford if there were still only 3-4 6a schools. Having 4 schools of 5000 might be interesting if they were manageable.
  19. I'll let you lose some sleep over it. Maybe I will tell you tomorrow, maybe Friday, maybe never. If I ever do, it will surprise you in some respects.
  20. One season? That is foolish. Career win percentage, wins/losses, and bonus points given to coaches who coached at difficult, losing programs and turned them around.
  21. No I am not, but thanks for trying to put words in my mouth
  22. You would only find that mostly the negative lurkers would come on here to vote. The poll would not be scientific to any degree and would have absolutely no reliability. The threats to the validity would be a list as long as my arm. In other words, it would be pointless and worthless and only allow more grandstanding for the "fans" that just dont like the guy. Its too easy for lowlifes to take pot shots. The upstanding are going about their business and ignoring the foolishness that goes on here, my own included. If the only measure is wins, why doesnt someone put up an all time list of win and losses by coaches and lets see how things stack up. That could be far more insightful than a poll. Its not a popularity contest. Its wins and losses.
  23. I would say Riverdale under Aydelott has been a better than average program. I, like so many others, am not satisfied with better than average, we just have a difference of opinion as to why it is not the great program it once was. Having a rough start to a long season has allowed to many #### roaches come crawling out of the wood work with their negativity and they only want to blame one thing. I look at several things including but not limited to talent.
