  1. ok...So let's get it started. What about next Friday night MBA vs Ensworth. There will surely be an overflow crowd, what can we expect?
  2. Ravenwood was not very big, but their Oline was tall. Trying to find that running back was like trying to find a mouse behind a snowplow, but after the first drive I though MBA adjusted pretty well, just like they did last week against JPII. They made a whole lot better adjustments then the Vols did against UCLA. Goes to show you what good coaching will do.
  3. Where's Rappy tonight. The Ravenwood crowd didn't exactly overwhelm our visitors side. I expected an overflow the way you dissed how our team travels.
  4. OK I'll be the first to say it. That is the worst officiated game I have ever seen. I don't know where they dig these guys up. I haven't seen a head referee this year under 60. They aren't in shape and they aren't in position to make calls. That roughing the passer call that kept the last RHS drive alive was unforgiveable, the ball was clearly tipped. Ray Charles could have made that call. And don't get me started on the clock at the end of the game...totally inept.
  5. I can tell by your spelling he taught you well. haha just kidding, I can't type worth a darn either.
  6. Both. I know back in the day it was not as competitive as it is today, but getting the Morehead anytime is no slouch. I'm sure it made his parents happy. We had a boy at MBA get the Morehead last year and turn it down.
  7. I knew thatr Kirk was a McCallie alum, but I didn't know he was a Morehead. He is a smart man.
  8. You're right that is obscure, I didn't know Kirk ever taught at MBA. He is a heck of a nice guy, it was a loss to the Nashville community when he went to McCallie.
  9. McCallie is a great setting for a game. I don't know how well Ensworth travels but the McCallie side will be well represented. There is a connection as well, the Headmaster at McCallie Kirk Walker was the Headmaster at Ensworth before they added the High School
  10. Actually the way you describe it is the way I remember things happening, but last year I heard a different story. If you remember that was the year that Fisher, Santi, and French were juniors. BA flamed us during the regular season, and everyone expected BA to win the Championship. The story I heard is that Carlton Flatt had put this idea of a game with the 5A champ together earlier, maybe even before the season started, and when MBA ended up winning the whole thing fell apart. Regardless, it begs the point. The TSSAA would not allow a game between 2 teams that is not scheduled between week zero, and the championship. I won't pretend that I hold the TSSAA in high regard because I don't. They would only agree to something like the Clinic Bowl if they could figure out a way to profit from it.
  11. Thank you Ms.bowen for clearing up the capitalization of Middle
  12. I don't think there was a lack of interest last year. We knew that Ravenwood was a team that could ruin our season, and they could do it this year as well. I would say that 1,000 people would be about right. I don't think you can compare the crowd we would bring with the crowd you get for BA or Brentwood or Franklin. Those are all Williamson County teams and there is history, and more community interest. Some of the fans you attribute to BA or Brentwood could really be walk-up fans from around the area. Come over to MBA when we play Ryan or BA or Ensworth. We had about 7500 for the Ryan game 2 years ago. If we brought 1000 people compare that to what you would get from some other team you are not already scheduled to play.
  13. It will never happen for a variety of reasons. First of all the TSSAA would never allow it if they couldn't think of a way to make money from it. In 2002 the City Paper in Nashville had arranged for the 5A State Champ to play the DII State Champ at Vanderbilt the week after the Clinic Bowl. They had the venue, the sponsors, everything set to go. The TSSAA stopped the game. It would have to be set up in some sort of way like that, otherwise the planning would have to go out to far. Who knows if Maryville v MBA would have the same luster next year as it would this year. The TSSAA as an organization wants to enforce the public/private split. They would not want to do anything that would appear to endorse this type of game. There have been comments here about having to many divisions in Tennessee. That is the way the TSSAA wants it. More divisions = more championship games = more games to get advertising revenue from television = more gate for the TSSAA (at $10/head) = more state champions and more cheap generic state champion bumper stickers they can sell. I hate to sound cynical but just like most cases where government or a bureaucracy is involved. Follow the money.
  14. I don't remember having a small crowd there last year. That would be unusual because MBA usually travels well. Usually for games with local teams they open up the Lacrosse field for parking right off West End Ave. It was open last week for JPII. Anyone can park there. We don't treat our guests badly except hopefully on the field. Oh yes and count on our stands being full, and enjoy the fireworks taking place behind you.
  15. Coach McGugin has done a good job of keeping the boys "off their high horse". Ravenwood spotted us 31 last year and almost came back on us, that won't be forgotten. I really don't know what to expect. Ravenwood lost to Goodpasture a team we dominated in a scrimmage, but beat BA and Brentwood. I am expecting the team that beat BA and Brentwood rather then the one that lost to Goodpasture. Hopefully it will be a good game.
  16. I have been mostly to the DII facilities and MUS is first rate. They have field turf now so they will not be any more mud bowl games like MBA and MUS played in the 04 playoffs. At McCallie the visitors sit on the east side looking west over the school and get to watch the sun set behind Lookout Mtn. That is a great setting and so is Baylor. MBA has a great atmosphere, and we have field turf as well. The most disappointing venue in my opinion in Brentwood Academy. For a program that has had the success their program has the stadium is awfull. They only have stands on one side of the field, so it is really crowded, and the goalposts are those stumpy looking things that could be used for flag football. The uprights can't be more then 6-10 feet tall.
  17. First question, where is it? Second question, why can't they grow any grass?
  18. Pepvol, here is an example of why those of us that are not Maryville fans get tired of hearing it: RedSox wrote: Agree Greyrider. These forums always start out with a good idea then turn to Maryville bashing. Look national rankings are all based on reputation. There are no national playoffs or BCS bowls for high schools so it is pointless to carry on and on about how Maryville could not compete at the National level and how they would get whipped by 15 Florida teams. Listen people you do not live anywhere but here in the great state of Tennessee and in this state Maryville is your daddy. End of story. Get used to it. If Dont like it then move. You see you can't claim to be "our daddy", when you won't play us or anyone else outside of east tennessee, and the 4A playoffs. I take as much offense to those comments as you take to mine. Clearly it is a 2 way street that you only see as one way. As to Maryville vs MBA. 04 MBA had a good team with lots of injuries, and we were still one play away from beating MUS in the Semi's who went on to kill BA in the State Championship game. 05 was not as good, and 06 we had a ton of injuries as well and went 4-6. I will give you 05 and 06, but not necesarily 04 or 07. Those both would have been great games. All of that being said, I have said repeatedly on here that Maryville is a great program, that 65 in a row is a huge accomplishment. Maryville might very well be the best team in the state, they might have beaten us last year, but we will never know will we. We will never know how they would stack up against the other great programs in this state (outside of Alcoa, and 4A), because they won't step out of the comfort zone, and I understand all the reasons why. But until Maryville is ready to step out, stop with the "we're your daddy" talk.
  19. I hate to beat dead horse but, you don't play the the "best the state of Tennessee has in the playoff's". You play the best 4A teams the state has to offer. You don't play the best DII or 5A teams.
