  1. I would say that York Institute is definitely not big, but quick they are! And once they get going with the threes, sometimes they are ever-flowing! The Bees have height, speed and depth...3 good factors to take them all the way. These games might be interesting and unpredictable, though, because all these teams play so uniquely. Also, officiating is so different in certain areas, too, which could definitely make it more interesting in these matchups. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  2. Thanks gatorbill! Now that's the way to make a kind and positive response! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I know a lot of people from Upperman, Livingston Academy, Clarkrange, Jackson County and York Institute, and I just want to say that there are some GREAT people from each community and the ones that I know love, respect and support one another. I watched as the York and Upperman crowds cheered for one another last night. As I walked out, I heard lots of York fans complimenting the game and Upperman players, so please know that though it was a sad loss, they are grateful for the opportunity ahead and happy for Upperman as a sister team. I also appreciate all the compliments I keep hearing from Upperman folks, too! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Who knows? Maybe we'll see Upperman, York, Clarkrange & JC in the final games!! Wouldn't that be FUN?!! But really...thanks for coming back with a positive response this time. That's the gatorbill that I'm familiar with! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  3. I'm SO glad I got to go see this game! It was probably one of the best games I've seen in a long time. Congrats to Upperman, but I must admit that I think York really needs to celebrate a victory in this one. They led the whole game and a lucky basket in the final seconds sealed the deal...too bad for them. /blush.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="blush.gif" /> After watching all 3 of these region games, I think that York's Brown was probably the real MVP. Don't get me wrong...Upperman's Davis is an incredible player (and MUCH CONGRATS to her)...but Brown stood out the most in this tourney. Cool thing is that I believe she's only a sophomore so I look for great things from her in the next 2 years! Anyway, BEST WISHES to Upperman and York Institute in the sub-state games! I'd say that these 2 teams are probably 2 of the very BEST in the state...along with L.A.! I was really impressed to see how York has grown and developed this year. They haven't received as much hype in the press, but they've proven themselves worthy of a state tournament trip. Hopefully one of these 2 7-AA teams will bring home the trophy! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> Tournament time is the BEST!!
  4. I've been watching LOTS of teams this year and I wouldn't assume anything just yet. Remember that York has beat Upperman once already this season. York, UHS, & LA all three are probably 3 of the TOP teams in the whole state! All three teams have very close standings as far as wins/losses are concerned, however, York hasn't gotten the same press or AP rankings as the other two. I haven't figured any of that out (as far as how they come up with those rankings), but you have to admit...when it comes to tournament time, York has been known to really bring it. They have 2 of the top 25 scorers in the state with Eacret and Brown. I think we might see a good game on Monday night. And TRUTH is...either team will be deserving. LA would've been deserving as well, so I give major props to all THREE of these teams for playing some good b-ball! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> As far as the hanging pig goes...I think there's a difference between sportsmanship and school spirit. York displayed great sportsmanship last night...as did LA. Let them have their fun and celebration for a good victory! No one was harmed or attacked...this is no different than cheerleaders making those large banners that say things like..."Slay the Dragons" or "Here, Kitty, Kitty" or "Swat the Bees"...haha! I'd like to see all the schools have a little more school spirit, actually! I often hear mean remarks yelled at referees and players, rather than crowds truly cheering on and rooting for their team. I know UHS, York and LA crowds are all 3 guilty of this. We could all set a better example by yelling cheers of encouragement to our teams...that's probably TRUE school spirit, ya know? I think the team players, themselves, have shown excellent sportsmanship (playing fair and with good attitudes)! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> And I must add that the Upperman/York squabble was very ridiculous on both parts. No one is more to blame than the other. Both school administrations dealt with the issue nicely and moved on. Some students from both school crowds were just trying to display their "manliness", but instead displayed some silly immaturity that wasn't worth it. As we move on, hopefully, everyone will keep it about the game and deliver some fun and exciting reasons to watch! Good luck to all the teams! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  5. York Institute girls are in, but I haven't heard what other teams are. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  6. hmmmm....well i think smith co. will want it badly because of the football season, but based upon current standings, it looks like york institute will probably come out with the win. we'll have to wait and see, i guess! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  7. So, York Institute heads to Smith County tonight, and it should be a good match-up that could end up in a close game. Both teams have shown pretty good skills this year. It should be interesting to see who pulls out with the win. If Smith County is in sync at home, they might send York girls home on a sad bus ride. However, if York's shooting is on cue and they stay out of foul trouble, they should be fine. York has been having to really play the bench the past few games, but have done okay it seems. Freshman Morgan Cook looks like an early standout when she gets playtime. For Smith, Ferris should be a BIG help, since York doesn't have any height this year. Smith Co. will have to keep York's Eacret from scoring...she has been racking up the points this year BIG TIME. Hopefully, we'll see some good 3-point action from both teams!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  8. totally agree! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" /> good luck teams!
  9. first...trust me, i definitely DO NOT have all the answers, and...i'm not qualified to be a coach...precisely why i'm not coaching or teaching. /tongue.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":P" border="0" alt="tongue.gif" /> i was just making a general suggestion based upon what i have observed from the games. i have known coach storie personally for years and am not trying to be on her back. i just want her to be the best she can be for her team. i'm actually REALLY excited that york has her as a coach. i think it was time for a female coach for MANY reasons. she is an outstanding person...really! it IS true, however, that york has a weakness of passing the ball around the perimeter too much. it's always what i hear from just about everyone who watches them. they are a strong team, no doubt, and you can't win em' all. i know they have a great season ahead and i wish them well! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  10. i do know a lot about york because i grew up there and have people that keep me updated on them. however, it doesn't make me a "york only" fan. i wish all the teams the very BEST! i just love basketball as a whole! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> thanks for bringing that up, though. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  11. These seem like pretty good predictions, but watch out for York Institute! They haven't lost a game yet and they played Pickett County very HARD last night! I still think it's a bit too early to make these line-ups. Hang on for the ride because I think there will be some surprises and shake-ups in this district!! /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" />
  12. York Institute was on FIRE last night!!! Newbaker had the game of his life....WOW! Pickett has a strong team and knocks down the 3 pointers like it's nobody's business, but I hear they were just in shock that York was answering back point after point! York is on a winning streak, so the Livingston matchup should be a goooood one! I hope I can make it to see that one!
  13. Wow! I noticed that Livingston Academy, York Institute, and Upperman girls all lost games last night!! Even though they were non-district action, it's still quite shocking!! I heard that York's loss was due to some poor coaching and too much dependence on Eacret as scorer. What was up with L.A. and Upperman, though? /ohmy.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":o" border="0" alt="ohmy.gif" /> Seriously, why Coach Storie at York does not start Rachel Brown in every game is beyond comprehension!!! She is a strong KEY player from what I've seen, but Storie always seems to have the wrong 5 players in at a time...it's gonna cost her some key wins. Storie seems to have her team depend way too much on Eacret and Peavyhouse to score. She needs to encourage Bradfield and Brown to take it to the basket more. Any game that I've ever seen York girls play, they seem to pass the ball around the perimeter WAY TOO MUCH! Drive in to the basket YORK!! Take notes from L.A. and Upperman and your very own Brown. She seems to be the only intimidating player on the team. Peavyhouse should be the sub for Shingleton and Tompkins. They are stronger ball handlers! With Eacret, Brown and Bradfield, York should have no problems winning any game. Hopefully, the coach will soon figure this one out. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" /> She's got BIG potential! As for Upperman...Jackson County must have been on fire! I'm a bit surprise that Cookeville took a win over Livingston girls. I read that York Institute played Cookeville pretty close a couple weeks ago despite a huge size difference. I guess this is all proof that you just never know what will happen with these area teams! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> I hope I get the chance to watch these teams play each other...should be interesting!
  14. I think I will have to agree on this one! LA should pull through without problem. Also, York should have no problem with PC. You just never really know with any of these teams, though.
  15. I know that York girls are looking strong this year, but how about Oneida? Any thoughts on who might come out on top?
  16. York Institute is looking STRONG already! And I will agree to watch out for the strength of Atkinson. Not too sure about Oneida, but from what I've already seen and read about YAI this year, it's looking to be a good season. The team has a lot of momentum and school spirit right now because of the winning football team. I think it will carry over into b-ball season, too. Good luck teams! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  17. actually...i think york institute is going to be the dark horse for this district. they were strong last year and lost no valuable players. york's molly eacret scored 30 points against monterey on thursday night. they played cookeville pretty strong on tuesday. also, york sophomore rachel brown is highly understated...she saves the day for the dragonettes in just about every game. upperman will be tough, and l.a. will undoubtedly be good, but i really think york can't be ruled out of being this season's best team just yet. i think we're gonna see some pretty incredible match-ups this year in this district! good luck to all the teams! can't wait to watch! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
