  1. This should be a great game. I see Adamsville's o-line taking this thing over late. Card's 27-TC 24.
  2. kwc, I'm not one to run and hide and I try not to speak with my feelings on here much. I didnt expect a shutout either but we lost our first string qb to a high ankle sprain and possible ligament damage early in the game. Once Melrose started putting 9 in the box our offense was, shall we say, limited. I did not read the CA. Melrose run game was pretty dominate, however, was held fairly impressively at times. Gross over threw Poole a couple of times deep. Watson is a great back that seemed to be a little surprised early by our defense. Good luck to all the Memphis teams. District 16 is unarguably the toughest in the state. I read last year were one of the goals of the z plan was to increase the opportunities for rural schools to compete for a state championship. I dont see that applying to 5a and 6a schools. I am certain that arguments can and will be made in regards to that statement but looking at the West TN that statement is difficult to argue against. Thanks for the interaction and I look forward to discussing football with you in the future.
  3. You guys summed it up early last week. Melrose just to powerful for Hardin County. First play was a zero route that broke for around 65 yards. HC did fairly well slowing the run game early forcing Merose to several 4th down conversion attempts which I believe the made all but 1 maybe 2 on the night. HC defense did well to hold Melrose to 26. kwc, my words on Will Gross, NO DOUBT! Whoever is working with this young man is doing an excellent job. The one play I remember most was in 2nd quarter. One of the few times Gross was forced from the pocket and the only time he did not have a receiver to go to he calmly sent the ball over the HC sideline. It is a long trip from Friday to Sunday but if he wants to and continues to work and make the grades, we could get the chance to watch him on Sunday.
  4. I understand just was a little curious about the numbers and knew you had a lot of insight. I look forward to watching this young man tonight. I hope we can put some pressure on this young man enough to let me judge his intangibles. Will get back with you later. Thanks.
  5. OK. HC has allowed 130 points through 11 games. "by the numbers" then your wrong which was rather easily done. change your call sign.
  6. kwc or traderB, I know you guys going be on here today. Hope your day goes well. In regards to your request kwc, can you give me some numbers on the young QB at Melrose? Basic stuff, yards passing, tds, attempts vs completions, yards rushing. Would be nice to have this knowledge for my assessment of "the product on the field." Another request. What type of year has Mr. Eric Watson had after all the controversy last year? Safe travels to all the teams on the road today and tonight. Good luck to all and prayers for injury free games.
  7. While I can't attest to what you've seen in the East...I find it hard to believe you can put ANY team in the "top 5" defenses that gave up 51 points (Daniel Boone)in a single game...(i don't care if they played Appalachian State)! On the other hand, if Seymour had one of the top 5 defenses...then they're season wouldn't be over with a record of 4-7....again....just my opinion! Seymour gave up 168 points in 11 games...while Daniel Boone allowed 165 points and are still alive. On the other hand..(or should I say..the other side of the state)..Lawrence County has only allowed 131 points through 11 games (55 of those points were allowed during the first 2 games of the year in their losses to Columbia and Giles County) but will certainly be stretched this week against Memphis Mitchell...the Green Wave from Gallatin have only had 127 points scored against them (42 of the 127 were given up in a shoot out against Mt. Juliet), and of course, the Patriots of Henry County who have been to the semis each of the last 3 years apparently has their best defense over this period of time allowing only 112 points on the season through 11 games! By the numbers...or "top 5" 1. Henry County 112 points allowed 2. Gallatin 127 points allowed 3. Lawrence County 131 points allowed 4. Tennessee High 140 points allowed 5. Clarksville Northeast 142 points allowed Then "by the numbers" Mitchell, then Clinton, then Daniel Boone, then Seymour, then Columbia, then Melrose, the Beech.....Sullivan South, Knox Catholic, Anderson County, and Hillsboro have all allowed over 200 points through 11 games thus far! Your top 5 is incorrect.
  8. ftbllfn: I appreciate your kind words about me and I'm sure TraderB feels the same. You know that I've been reading this and other posts on here on a daily basis, like all of us do because we are addicted ... can't get enough, but let me say this also ... I've had your comments on my mind here recently because I feel can relate to what you are going through internally. By that I mean this ... when I first started coming to this site several years ago there wasn't much West Tn support on here and very little City of Memphis support. I would read stuff about Memphis teams and just get infuriated. I quickly learned to just let the play on the field talk for itself and just enjoy the ride along the way. I soon found out that those who were not knowledgeable about Memphis area teams would find out when they faced them of what kind of teams were from my city. If the Memphis team did well ... those who were vanquished would soon be singing the praises of that team to all who would listen. If the city team fell ... well ... it was just another undiciplined, poorly coached but highly talented team from Memphis. By and large ... people had/have already made up their minds about Memphis City teams and the only way to change their perspective or opinion is to have their team play a City of Memphis team and let the chips fall where they may. About Hardin County: I think Hardin County high school football is pretty good and I think they have had an outstanding year and I think the coaches over there deserves a lot of credit for the consistency that they have shown over the past few years. But, based on my years of experience of just watching and observing football on the high school level; I just think Melrose is the better team. This year has been by Melrose's standards, is an off year ... but make no mistake about it ... that is a very solid team offensively and defensively. Their achiles heel is what's it has been for years ... their lack of a kicking game. On another note: There is one thing I would like for you to pay attention to when you attend the game. I'm assuming you will be there. Just watch the young man playing QB for Melrose and give me your opinion of him and how he manages his team. Quite frankly, I'm very impressed with his play considering that he is only a sophomore, but I would love to get someone else's POV. This is the 2nd QB to be coached under this current coaching staff at Melrose to be so poised in the pocket that I'm beginning to think that it's more then just them having talented players to play that position. I think that whoever currently coaches QB's at Melrose is one of the best around because I like the product that I see when I see Melrose play. Anyway ... just some thoughts ftbllfn. kwc, There is no doubt a great deal of smack talk that occurs on this sight from people that are not very knowledgable on the game of football much less any environment outside their small area of life. I have enjoyed many games and ate plenty of good food, might I add in Memphis even when HC had long been eliminated. Personally I have the utmost respect for inner city teams, especially Memphis. The challenges those young men face are drastically different. Athletically, it is like comparing the SEC to the WAC. I look forward to a well played and coached game this Friday on both sidelines. As for your request, no doubt will give you my feed back.
  9. I dont see HC stunning Melrose this week. These 2 teams match up pretty well IMO. HC can win this game. ummm....the smoke from the herbal essence have gone to your noggin!! You are nuts if you think HC remotely matches up with the Golden Wildcats at ANY position!! Wake up dude!! You gonna have to change your call sign.
  10. FballFan101, If Hardin County goes into its game vs Melrose's thinking...."We beat Ridgeway. Ridgeway beat Melrose. So, we will beat Melrose," Hardin County will get blown out on its home field! That sort of logic is notoriously faulty and woefully unreliable. Here are just three examples (there are many, many more): Whitehaven 40 - Ridgeway 20. Ridgeway 21 - Melrose 10 Woodale 36 - RW 14 Based on your logic, both Whitehaven and Woodale should dust Melrose! Well, Guess what--Melrose dusted Whitehaven 27 - 6, and blanked Woodale 14 -0. --------------------------------------------- Trust me when I tell you, Melrose has improved exponentially since the first 1/3 of the season. If HC has tape on Melrose from that RW game, then they would be advised to just burn it immediately! It will be woefully misleading. For the record, Ridgeway defeated Melrose on a long "Hail-Mary" type pass, at the buzzer! If Melrose and RW were to play again, Melrose would win by 2 or more TD's, IMO. ---------------------------------- Hardin County will be extremely fired up and beaming with confidence @ home, Friday nite vs Melrose! Unfortunately for HC, they will quickly be hit with a brutal dose of reality: Melrose's passing game will simply overwhelm Hardin County's secondary, and HC will fall behind early. At some point, HC will be forced to pass the ball in order to get back into the game... That's when the game will quickly get out of hand for HC, and Melrose will pull away. Melrose 26 -- Hardin County 10 (If this game were being played @ Melrose, I'd say 34 - 7 Melrose). TraderB, I have followed kwc and your insight for a few years and respect your opinion. There is no Ridgeway beat Melrose logic behind HC this week. We would only have to look at the Northside/Bartlett score then turn to to Melrose/Bartlett score to eliminate that train of thought. That thought process doesnt workout, as you know, because games are played on the field. Melrose is traditionally a strong team and it is logical that they are headed for a collision course with Mitchell. Unfortunately I dont think LC or HC will be playing this Friday night with the idea of keeping the tracks clear for those 2 trains to meet. Good luck to all teams in Quad 4 I just hope one of them finishes the job in Cookeville.
  11. I dont see HC stunning Melrose this week. These 2 teams match up pretty well IMO. HC can win this game.
  12. HC advances after a mysterious fog appears over the field late in the game allowing 48 to break from the sidelines, unnoticed by the refs, to pick up a fumble and race 80 yards for the deciding score.
  13. Great to hear from you again ftbllfn! It appears most people are picking Craigmont to win a close one here. This LCHS team is getting little respect about like Hardin County. I hope all teams to the east of Memphis wins. Good luck to both LCHS and Hardin County. Maybe they will meet again this year! Nope not any respect for any of the rural teams. The Memphis teams pretty much have dominated through the years. Interesting scenrio to me is how Ridgeway and Craigmont end up playing in mostly 6A team distircts then melrose, east, mithcell have one 6A team in their district. Makes for a tough road. I actually think if the system is not tweaked a bit we will one day see a 7 or 8 seed 5A team out of Memphis win the state.
  14. I been wondering why we are the only school the TSSAA allows our home town refs to call our games.
  15. We in the worst location for our classification in the entire state. We play the local circuit and pay the bills. Real disappointed in the crowd size Friday night. Way to many empty seats. If they would get 64 completed all the way it would be great to play LC every year. I dont see any reason LC cant play with any of the top 5A teams in state. You probably match up real well with henry county. The Melrose, Ridgeway, and Mitchell teams are going to bring a lot of speed. I dont know that much about the East side of state. Tell me about 77. I hope there arent any road blocks for him getting multiple offers by major D-1 schools. If he has right mind set there is nothing in the way of being drafted when he comes out of college unless he gets an injury. Good luck Friday night. A win puts you at home for first 2 rounds?
  16. LOL. Not an idea I want to entertain at the moment. Seemed like HC just gave up after not getting in the end zone. Looks like HC got a confidence problem on offense without #8. Defensively HC could not stop LC in the second half. It has turned into "Quicksand" for our kids. I do believe if #8 comes out and gets his timing down, we manage to beat Northside this week then we will not be coming to LC. I will say this, whoever lining up to play LC has got a task in front of them. I am not giving you the gold ball but it is not something that is impossible. I find it interesting for you to be hearing we could match up again. I posted last week that the first game might not matter some folks thought I was an complete idiot. Did I have insight or what?
  17. Yes LC has a solid team. Good size and speed. Good luck in the playoffs.
  18. Both teams have huge district games next week. And I can see why HC appears to be over rated. I will be surprised if Lawrence County wins by 2 touchdowns. We will know in about 8 hours how this thing gonna turn out. Either way good luck and safe travels.
  19. The 8th grader? He doing good. Burnham got good report from what I have heard. Look to see a power run game tonight from both teams. Hopefully this rain stays away we havent had more than an inch this week. So you confident enough to give me HC and 7? I think HC takes this one tonight. I really dont see a blow out by either team. Gonna be a close one the over and under around 41.
  20. I'm afraid you are right. LCHS will roll since they traveling tonight.
  21. Catch me on another thread. Like the conversation. I can agree to disagree and not be a @$$ about it. LOL. #8 gettin test done today so keep him in your thoughts and prayers please. Young man can read defenses he just got to adjust to the speed. He gonna put up big numbers over the next 2 years. I still think he dont go down he breaks out against Brighton last Friday night. Brighton would have had to make an adjustment to their adjustment. You have a great one.
  22. I figured we would bring up the 8th grade QB and let him air it out. Maybe go borrow some atheletes from somewhere and let them play too.
  23. You got it right except you failed to mention how power football on offense helps defense. Im impressed. Screens, dumps and darts will slow down the rush, back of the dbs and eventually open up the combo routes. If #8 doesnt go down last week we 8-0. But as stated earlier that game over and we move forward from here. We might not be able to stay on field with Mitchell, Melrose, or Ridgeway come playoff time. Last time we won a playoff game Milligan took it back 100 yards on a kickoff and Hudgens still unleashed a bomb that beat us at the end except for penality. History says we cant but it could change. I will let it go. Just dont expect to not get challenged with a response when you want to talk about if we were in district such and such we wouldnt be doing such and such. These kids work hard and play hard.
