  1. CA- Of course the twins are both great players and everyone knows that. Travis russell is also a great player, that can shoot the ball very well. Probally the best shooter on the team, I dont think alot of people realize that. Mcewen- The big man inside #50 uses his size very well to get to the rim. I also think that the point guard (#11) holds that team together. He feeds the ball inside more consistently then the other guards and he also is a very smart player when he has the ball in his hand. East- Woodard is the big threat on the team, he gets to the basket better than anyone and in a few games proved he can shoot the 3. But if you leave #23 and #15 open they can both fill up the stat sheet with 3's themselves. WHH- The two post players are good players, and their both Sophmores. One scores more than the other but the other is more effective on the boards. The point guard (#11) seems to make the highlight passes which gives alot of easy lay-ups, but he doesnt score much. NC- The new post player seemed to be pretty good, but the chemistry wasnt there. It depends the night for the rest of the team. They either shoot lights out or cant buy a basket. #20 seems to be the only guard that tries to get to the basket. HC- Skelton seems to get alot of offensive rebounds, and easy put backs. The other two big boys that played did a very good job on the boards. # 23 seemed to be the only one who could hit a 3. MH- The point guard #5 is very quick player and gets to the basket alot and also shoots the ball quite a bit from the outside. #31 was a good spot up shooter who shot alot of 3's. #13 also seemed to make some acrobatic shots the few times I watched MH play. JB- #21 was the only player that could pull up and hit a jump shot and also get to the basket. One decent post player but I dont know his name or number. Taller kid with the long hair. I agree with you on all picks Tigerfan, but I would like to say HC has another boy who is a consistent 3 point shooter in the Wilson boy, he hit 6 in one game, then sat the bench the rest of the year... saw maybe 5 minutes playing time. Never got another chance..... we here in HC wondered about it.
  2. ok i was there also and the officials were just horrible. They missed a ton of calls for both teams. They were not one sided whatsoever. And I agree with you that the coach from Erin should not have gotten coach of the year but I do not think it should of been Eric Rowland... It wasn't very smart of him to get a technical when WHHS was down by two with less than a minute left to go in the game. Coach Harvey Mize from McEwen should gotten it. The McEwen girls have won the District Tournament three years in a row and has a ton of experience. And another thing... that cheap shot you were talking about helped heritage more than hurt them. Im pretty sure Ray hit both of her free throws and then WHHS got possession of the ball back. Some of the worst officiating I have seen in a long time in most of the games played, the worst was whaen HC boys had 26 fouls and McEwen had 6.... Game Total I am not saying HC didnt deserve 26 fouls, but do you honestly believe in a high school game that the other team only had 6 fouls the entire game??????
  3. I think Sam Smith greatly deserved MVP. She runs the floor with skill and confidence, and puts up her own points too. She is always looking for the open player, and can hit them, or is running the plays like a pro.
  4. I feel I have to defend the Coach of the Year choice. True Mize is a brilliant coach, not taking anything away from him, but Young took over last year at HC and had very young players to work with, he did a great job with them, this year he had 1 senior, and the rest were jumiors, sophs, and freshman. He has taken a very young team and did wonders with them. Last year I have to be honest, I thought HC would finish close to the bottom of the district, not because they didn't have talent, but because they needed floor time. This year he has worked with those girls and put together a good team with a deep bench. He has freshman and sophs that can hold their own with any team in the district, his 5 starters are talented girls who play hard. He has a very talented assistant coach in Jamie and together they put the HC team in contention. And I will say this now, watch out for them next year!
  5. It's hard to play 8 people against 5 and win. Period. If you are honest you will admit it. As to HC beating McEwen, they just outplayed them. Not bragging, ask McEwen. But if you think I am going to tell you how... lol McEwen girls will easily defeat WHH tonight, as they should.
  6. I think it was 52 - 37 but I am not sure, with 3 minutes to go HC was down by 5. The foul tally is about right. And I agree that one ref called the biggest part of them. My favorite foul was Skelton went in for a layup off a long pass and the Mc kid creamed him, in the process losing his balance and falling to the floor. Roper came in for the put back and I think stepped on the kids foot. Foul was on Roper. They were the only 3 on that end of the floor, everyone could see it. There was alot of backriding under Mc goal too that didnt get called. Now I am not saying HC didnt commit alot of the fouls, but Mc only had 6 entire game? Get real! One ref tried to call it right, one ref didnt do much calling at all, and one ref was calling anything he could, when he wasnt talking to the kids or arguing with the HC crowd. But neither team played very well or could hit. HC did a decent job of stopping the big man, and Tyler and Tanner didnt have their best nights either. If they play like that against WHH tonight, they are beaten. As for the McEwen stands, e1 in the district knows how they act. Trouble with them at the district tournaments last year in HC. It's a shame they are allowed to act this way I agree. They have good kids there and it's bad that a few pull the rest of them down. As for the team.... it was some of the girls basketball team pretending like they were reading the paper during lineup announcements. Or at least they all had on Mc jerseys, and I know some of them play. Its very poor sportsmanship, but actually they are mostly just ignored.
  7. From what I know they lose quite a bit with their big guy and the twins leaving. That's really most of their scoring and leadership I'd guess. They have a Jr #42 Mullinix that's about 6'3" and pretty athletic but isn't going to light up the scoreboard. Hustles and hits the boards nice. Probably will be down a fair amount next year but honestly not sure about their young talent. WHH and obviously CA will be strong but many of the rest will surely be down from this year. WHH will return 4 out of 5 starters, with both big boys (4 and 5 spots) only being Sophs this year. They are just now learning how to use their size. CA will still be the favorites next season mainly due to the Smiths, but WHH should be up there close as well. I see HC and NCS possibly making some noise next year too. HC loses Skelton and Barnes, which will be tough, but with whats returning, as you said " they may be making some noise " They have some younger boys who can step up on varsity next year too.
  8. I'll hand it to HC. They were physical last night, and WHH couldn't match them. WHH could not buy a bucket, and HC got way too many second chance points. HC hit the boards all night, and their zone really affected the WHH offense. Holding true to seasonal form, the refs really sucked. They let the game get out of hand early. However with that being said, HC deserved the win. If that kind of effort was there for HC all season long, they would be top 3-4 right now in the district. As I said I wasn't there, but it sounded like it got physical and out of hand early. Thank you for saying we deserved the win, I talked to someone this morning and they said the boys played hard. This has been a transitional year for HC , with a new coach, also, injuries affected us all year, Monroe and Featherstone both out the first of the season, Nolen breaking his arm at Jo Byrns, Witherspoon his ankle at CA, then Skelton was out 3 games, and Cooksey quit. Losing Cooksey was a blow, but it was his choice to quit. Anyways, I think last night showed what they are capable of, and I am very proud of them.
  9. I was at the game last night too... and here is what happened.... based on what I saw and what I heard at the scorers table. There was a personal foul on the play, when an HC player tried to tie up Bedwell. Bedwell got hit in the mouth, and he retaliated with a slinging of his arm as he moved away. I got a good look at this, and saw it first hand. The ref had called a personal on the HC player, then he called the T on Bedwell. These were correct calls in my opinion. Apparently, an HC player made some comments, and he was then T'd up as well. I did not see this, but I heard the ref explain it at the scorers table. So, WHH got to shoot 1 & 1 for the personal, and the two Ts essentially canceled themselves out. At that point, with the 2 T's offsetting, it became a "jump ball" situation. The alternate possession arrow was in favor of WHH, so they got to bring the ball in sidecourt. Again - this part was overheard from the offical explaining the situation on the side. Aside from that, I concur in that the TSSAA officiating has been consistently bad this season. I was there too and while that is what happened I was wondering if WHH was shooting a one and one, why was everyone standing back like they do during technical foul shots? And if it was a one and one shot, why did WHH get posession of the ball ( like in a technical situation)? It wasn't an intentional foul call, I was sitting right in front of it. And the boy didn't sling his arm, he threw his hand back and hit the boy.
  10. Upset of the night Houston Co 60 White House Heritage 38 wasn't there, listened to it on the radio.
  11. I am all about that Baggett should be one of the top contenders for MVP, but I feel I need to say something about some of the other girls on the HC team. Jamie Tolley is the "fire" of the team, she is the scrapper that's always in on the play, in the floor after the ball, a rebounder, a shooter, and just an all around good ballplayer. Caley Deason can always be counted on to give 110%, a great defensive player, a top rebounder, and has been stepping up and hitting needed shots. Chelsea Spurgeon is our good post player, along with Nikki Nichols. Brooke Torrez is our smallest player, but plays like a giant, and can run the floor when Baggett is out. I am very proud of the HC girls... They have played with heart this year and each of them, on the floor and on the bench, is an MVP to me.
  12. HC defeated McEwen tonight, 44 - 29. Baggett put up 18 points and led her team. Now it's going to get interesting!
  13. Baggett's stats from the Nashville Tennessean.... she scores a little I reckon Season Stats 09-10 Nov 17, 2009 Clarksburg High School 16 Nov 19, 2009 Northwest High School 12 Nov 23, 2009 Montgomery Central High School 14 Nov 24, 2009 Waverly Central High School 8 Dec 04, 2009 East Robertson High School 11 Dec 08, 2009 Clarksville Academy 10 Dec 15, 2009 McEwen High School 3 Dec 18, 2009 Merrol Hyde Magnet School 11 Dec 28, 2009 Santa Fe High School 14 Dec 29, 2009 Hampshire High School 27 Jan 05, 2010 Greenbrier High School 13 Jan 12, 2010 Nashville Christian School 16 Jan 14, 2010 Stewart County High School 8 Jan 15, 2010 East Robertson High School 12 Jan 19, 2010 Clarksville Academy 24 Jan 22, 2010 Jo Byrns Middle/High School 8
  14. either LeeAnn Baggett, or the point guard from McEwen ( sorry don't know her name )
  15. It wasn't so much of him opening up passing lanes, it was that he could break any press and get the ball down the floor. HC has had trouble with any kind of full court press and traps ever since Cooksey quit. It's hard to pull a shooting guard like Featherstone and turn him into a point guard in a couple of weeks. He does a good job at it, but he's not Cooksey.Plus it limits his shooting. Skelton can make his own plays, but he's not the only post player they have. Monroe put up 24 against NC, even thought they got beat. Roper put up big points against ER in their gym. As for Woodard, when they came to HC, he put up alot of points, but he also has turned into a kid that passes the ball. He had many many assists, nice no look passing, he isn't as selfish a player as he used to be.
  16. . HC was down around 25 with 4 minutes to go, so the coaches started subbing the players that hadn't played. HC put their JV in, CA had Crozier, the Miller boy, and 3 others in, thats when the score got run up so high... our freshman couldn't play against them. They were jumping up and down like they were playing our varsity, instead of freshman, it was too funny. With 2 minutes left, CA finally put their JV in. HC played good ball, but their zone can't stop CA's 3 point shooters. The reffing was decent in the varsity game, HC had 1 to foul out, the twins both had 4 fouls, a couple of CA's boys got away with alot of pushing, body fouls etc, but it wasn't the twins, they went on the floor and did their jobs. Featherstone got bloodied up with an elbow to the head, Monroe got called for a charge, when he had never moved, lol, the CA player ran up to him and fell backwards, it was as good a fake fall as I have seen lol For the twins sake, I hope they do make it all the way this year. Those boys played good ball and were not showing off, or acting as hateful and stupid as 2 of the other kids. But anyways, thats how I saw it.
  17. Saw in the Tennessean stats tonight that Mongomery Central kicked some butt in Stewart County tonight. 57 - 36... Junior Trevor Moore led the way with 16 points. Way To Go!!!! Sure wish he was in Houston County, and I am not alone in that wish. Keep up the good work MC!
  18. I saw Cheatham County play at the MC camp, and they didnt look that bad to me, an improvement over last year I would say. They play hard, when they come together as a team, they might surprise yall.
  19. Welcome to Houston County basketball Sam, looking forward to the season.
  20. Houston County and Clarsville Academy both looked good at camp. The twins are ballplayers, period. But HC has a good team, with alot of experience, and they are big, and it goes without saying Dillard is one of the best players in the district. And its true, we do have a better bench. I cant wait for season to start. Dont count us out. We will be ready
  21. I wholeheartedly agree with you, I am just a bystander, but I have seen Cheatham play a couple of times. The Walker girl makes things happen, she is looking for the open man when shes running point, and hits them. I know the Hunter girl is a good player, but shes not the only team member, and I have wondered why, when Carr has Bates and Doty under the goal, he doesnt play to the inside game more often. Especially with the Walker girl feeding them the ball. JMO But if Carr doesn't get his behind in gear, hes going to cost these girls a district tournament championship. waverly is hot hot hot.....right now, and ready to play.
  22. Lady Irish 43 East Robertson lady Indians 42. Big win ladies, way to go!!!!! We are proud of you all
  23. Cheatham Lady Cubs defeat MC Lady Indians 52 - 39
  24. To GotGame and BKBaller, what tournament did you guys see the Moore and Monroe boys play in AAU this year? /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> [/quote Mntgomery Central Middle and I loved watching the boys play. They play hard and were well coached. They have that fire and determination that people love to watch. The other big kid done well too. I have never seen the other kids that played. I know they didnt play middle school at HC. where were they from? One was from MBA ( I think ) and the other was from Nashville. They are both real ballplayers. The other big boy was the Roper boy, and hes tough on the inside. Thanks for the kind words about our boys. We hate hate hate that the Moore boy went to MC this year.... We miss him!
