  1. If they want to improve attendance, they should not have the boys play the same week that the NCAA has the first 32 games on Thursday and Friday. There are so many people who watch NCAA tournament that would go the the State Tournament if it was not at the same time. All they have to do is start the boys a week early when they typically have girls start, and they could start the girls tournament on the Friday before and have 2 days in between the girls and boys. Attendance would go up. I would go for sure every year, which I only go about a 1/4 of the time now, most years opting to watch ncaa on tv .
  2. Thanks for posting I just commented on another post asking about Holiday tournaments. No one ever seems to talk about high school basketball in Nashville. It is too bad as there are some quality teams that play at these tournaments each year but no one seems to know how to market their tournaments.
  3. Does anyone have any information on Nashville area Holiday basketball tournament. I love living in TN, but I hate the fact that not too many people care about high school basketball. The paper does a horrible job covering it. Beech Tournament? Is Overton or Father Ryan having a Christmas tournament this year?
  4. Thanks Greenwheel. Looks, like some fun teams to watch. I know Union City in the recent past has had some awesome teams, play really fast. Not sure what they are like now. Looks like there is a mix of small and large schools in tournament.

I might try to get to Overton and Father Ryan, not too far from each other. Would still like to see what Beech has as well.
  6. Surely there is a parent, student or player excited about basketball in Middle TN? that is going to be involved in one of the Christmas tournaments?? Bueller, Bueller, Bueller, Bueller?????? anyone? anyone? anyone?
  7. do you have a bracket for whole tournament with game times for all 3 days?
  8. i live in sumner county and that would be fine with me if they play to their potential. i'm just a basketball fan in general and was giving my take on what i saw from them, of course that was 1 game, but saw quite a bit of the same last year too when i watched them. i just know 10aa is far and away more talented and deep compared to 9aa from top to bottom.
  9. only seen whhs 1 time and my scouting report is they have multiple 6-3/6-4 guards, that don't like to boxout and are in love with shooting 3's and play a zone that is not very effective against athleticism. i am basing my scouting report off of watching them play east lit., who could make a lot of good teams look bad. but i have a feeling that is the way whhs would play more times than not, limited defense, have a tough time rebounding and peremiter oriented. they do have some shooters, but it is hard to win a lot of games relying on 3's. agree that they have the talent to finish in top 2 in 9aa, outside of that it will get much tougher unless they improve rebounding and defense.
  10. What Middle TN schools are hosting Christmas Tournaments? Beech usually has one. Father Ryan and Overton. Dates? What teams are playing? schedule??
  11. Why on earth would the coach of Beech take out his starters with a 13 point lead in the 3rd qtr, just because the LA coach did?? Just because they gave up or he was fed up with starters doesn't dictate that the other team play their bench. If you have any issues it needs to be with your team and coach, not the other team. There is no rule written or unwritten that dictates that the team ahead has to pull off in the 3rd quarter just because the other team decides to play their bench. Your issue needs to be with your coach's decision and not Beech. I'm just a basketball fan and was at the tournament not rooting for a particular team. I saw LA play Antioch and as I said they looked really sharp. The next day they did not look that sharp against RedBank and I did notice that the coach made some substitutions against Red Bank that he didn't against Antioch. I'm assuming he wasn't happy with some players. The Red Bank game they just could not keep up with the speed of Red Bank and were outworked on the boards. It was a fast physical game and LA was not able to keep up. They have some incredible shooters and some good athletes, I just don't think they showed up to play on Tuesday and apparently not for the Beech game that I didn't get to see. Happy New Year. Couldn't have said it better myself mr jones. Why in the world only down 13 would the starters be pulled for the rest of the game? What was the issue? OK take on situations seemed to be a little skewed. I was somewhat surprised at the Red Bank score given that LA beat them early in the year. The Beech score was a real shocker. Figured Beech was pretty good but not that good. Things should get better for LA as all the games they got left, except for one, will be against upper cumberland teams. They're big city games didn't turn out very well, but maybe it will help in the long haul. I overheard a couple of the LA fans talking about the Red Bank game being early in the year and that Red Bank were missing the football players and they were thinking it was going to be a tougher game. To be honest with you after watching them against Antioch, I thought they would have played Red Bank a little closer than they did.
  12. Sounds like Overton is the real deal this year. I wished I could have gone to the tournament, I decided to stay local and went to Beech. DL is amazing as they just keep coming up with new gym rats every couple of years and reload. Everyone in the gym knows what they are going to do, they just execute their same offense and man to man D year after year with home grown talent. You can throw stones at the privates all day long, but I admire DL even though I'm not a fan of DL. As anyone that knows much about their programs knows that they just develop from the kids that have been going to the school since they were little. They rarely have natural athletes, just kids who have been taught the fundamentals of the game and have willed themselves into players.
  13. Not sure who the best is but the CPA 8th grader that starts varsity basketball must be pretty good. I think his name is Jalen Lindsey and he is 6-6".
  14. The 3 losses are tough for White House, but I'm glad to see them playing in a tough tournament like this with good competition. This will help a young team get better by playing better teams. Those big southern Illionois tournaments like Carbondale and Centralia are serious competition with some incredible teams coming from St Louis, Chicago, Memphis/W. TN and the local teams are tough as well.
  15. Looks like they got a chance to play one of them when they played against Beech. Beech was beat by Bolton. LA was beat by Red Bank who led by 21 at one point and ended up winning by 13. Red Bank went on to beat Bolton in o.t for the championship. Beech beat LA for the 3rd place game 58-22. Looks like they were done in by a 28-4 3rd qtr after being down by 4 at half.
  16. Why on earth would the coach of Beech take out his starters with a 13 point lead in the 3rd qtr, just because the LA coach did?? 17. Livingston played real well day 1 against Antioch and came away with win. They never got it going in the 2nd game losing to Red Bank by 13 were down by as many as 21. Ramsey kid never got it going and stayed in foul trouble the first 2 games. I didn't see the Beech game but saw where they only scored 8 pts in 2nd half. I was very impressed with Livingston against Antioch, however against Red Bank they didn't look very good and if #23 (Smith) hadn't of scored 33 points they would have lost by 20+, he kept them in the game all by himself on offense.
  18. Redbank beat Bolton in the championship game by 2 pts in o.t. A goaltending call ended the game as time expired. It was clearly goal tending hitting the rim and then backboard and then swatted away over the cylinder. Refs hesitated on the call and mass confusion ensued and they finally counted the basket and the game was over. Two evenly matched teams with athleticism to burn. I thought Bolton was better coached but RedBank had a couple of individuals that just made the difference on both ends of the court. Looks like Livingston is really struggling the past 2 games as they lost big to Beech in the 3rd place game ending up 1-2 at the tournament. They were beat by 13 last night and by 36 to Beech with a final of 58-22, with Livingston only scoring 8 in 2nd half. They have some players and were very impressive with a win on day 1 of tournament against a very fast Antioch team who pressed them the whole game. Then looks like the wheels came off the next 2 games. Beech is impressive when they work it inside out with Taylor and Reece. In tight games they have a short rotation playing 7, maybe 8 guys. Not sure about there depth. All in all a fun tournament to watch. Some really good teams, it is so sad to see the championship game and only a handful of fans were there that weren't family from one of the 2 teams playing. I don't understand why Middle TN is so apathetic to high school basketball. I'm used to KY where people can't get enough of it.
  19. I ended up at Beech tournament the past couple of days, choosing to go to the closest in proximity. Some good action in the tournament. Livingston played well day 1. Red Bank and Bolton are fun teams to watch. Not much height on either team but very active and both play fast. RedBank plays wide open and never slows down even with a 20 point lead they were running and shooting within 5 seconds of crossing 1/2 court line. They actually let Livingston mount a little come back cutting it to about 9 pts by turning the ball over. They held on to win and won by 13. The freshman Ramsey never got it going in either game that I watched him, getting in foul trouble in both games. TJ Smith scored 33 for Livingston tonight and was very impressive, he hit 6 threes and it seemed like 12, he had a very hot shooting hand. I don't know the name of the kid from Redbank (#50) but he had to have hit that many or more 3's along with some inside shots and some terrific "d", the young man could jump out of the gym as well and was fun to watch both today and yesterday. Beech and Bolton was a very fun game to watch. The refs let both teams play. I'm sure both teams fans thought the refs were bad, but from a nuetral spectator I loved it. I will say that they let a lot go for both teams. I actually prefer when refs let the teams play defense and don't call fouls on every shot block or all the incidental contact that goes on with athletes. My opinion for what it is worth is that Beech did not take advantage of Jon Taylors inside presence as they could not seem to get the ball inside to him where he had a 4 or 6 inch height advantage over the Bolton players. The few times they did get it to Taylor, Bolton didn't have an answer for it. Seems to me they settled for jumpers too much rather than working it in. It was a good game and Beech down 2 with 3.9 seconds left inbounded the ball and set up a good play for the inbound passer Chamberlain to get the ball back with a good look at a 3pt shot and it just missed and Bolton won by 2. I can't understand how someone could put on a tournament and not have a program for sale with the rosters of the teams. Beech has a good crowd for their teams, a couple of the Memphis area teams traveled well and the girls team from GA brought quite a few fans. I believe middle TN is missing out on some great basketball, not sure why attendance is always so sparse for mid-TN basketball. There are a handful of schools that really seem to support their programs but their is just a lot of apathy toward the game, which is unfortunate for the kids playing and dedicating so much time to the game.
  20. ok, I was really wrong on this one. I didn't think Carbondale was that strong this year and they beat E Peoria by 15 or close to that. Playing in this caliber of tournament will help White House get better
  21. White House plays East Peoria today, they should be able to win this one if they come out to play.
  22. I wouldn't call it an upset. I saw Ensworth play against Beech (a good AAA team) this year and they had a 15 point lead but did not hold on to win. It was only their 3rd game of the season and Beech had played 6 or 7. They played 15 guys and sent 3 different groups of 5 players in and out the whole game. They were deep and had some players. I would think Ensworth would be expected to be a contender for state champs in Div II.

  24. Bold prediction with some great teams and players. I might bet against you about the tournament champ, but I can't fault you for believing in your team. Don't know enough about individual players to comment too much.
