  1. You know maybe I was out of line, but so was some of your Marryville faithful on here that I was responding to. I don't see you saying anything to them, or is it OK if your for Maryville. Like I also said, winning is one thing that Maryville is used to doing over it's opponents, I hope putting down your competition is not another. It's hard not to have sour grapes when your loss is fluanted in your face by some. You have been one of the few that have shown some class, don't spoil it now. It's not like I said anything that a lot of people didn't already know. So I'm sure there has been what you call "sour grapes" from other teams if they've heard the same things after a game with murville. I don't know maybe I'm to old or something but I always tried to show respect before and after the game to the opponents. What Maryville has done in football is quite remarkable, a feat that may not ever be repeated. So you as fans have to decide if you want your team respected or hated. Your words after the games are crucial to that by many. Or maybe you just don't care.
  2. Yes I'm sure he would, but I don't hear anybody on here from South runnin' their mouth making Curt out to be the next Peyton Manning like you are. So why are there no more D1 offers? You brag, brag, brag about how superior he is, where are they. He made some good throws last night but from where I was sitting(in very supprisingly small stands) most of the night his recievers were usually ten yards away from the DBs. Yes he is leading his team to a 5A championship game..oops 4A and it does take a special QB to do that, but to say he's the best in the state? C'mon, I think your blinded by your own school colors. Oh and about the combines, no backhanded slap meant toward him just the arrogant ones on here making him out to be the best thing since sliced bread. I'm just stating the facts, and I didn't want to tell it but sombody has to tell the truth on here amongst all the bragging. You beat us , no debating that, but some Marryville fans, not all, want to rub Souths' nose in it too, occasionally throwing in backhanded compliments. Show the class some said of you on here before the game. There have been few exceptions of that on here from Marryville fans. Oh and after Burnette's season is over ask him that same question again....you might get a different answer. I hope you guys have an injury free chamionship game...but I'll be pullin for the underdog.
  3. Burnette is a pretty good QB, but he is lucky enough to be in this system. A very good 5A school playing down to 4A. If your QB is so much better than Phillips why was it when they were both at the same combines this summer, when they seperate the QBs into different groups(The really good ones and the mediocre ones) he was put with latter. He is a pretty good QB, be proud of him but be careful how much you boast.
  4. South truely is in uncharterd waters for the school. I mean from what were hearing we should just stay home and say we had a good season, lets wait til next year. But they will play the game and they will fight til the end win or lose. We have tasted defeat before and been humbled by it, but we have learned from it. A big part of life is being humbled on occasion, it keeps things in perspective. Maryville has rulled for so long and been dominate all this time (58 games I believe), how humbling it will be when the Red Rebs do fall, maybe from South , maybe not according to most everyone. But it will happen by someone. The law of averages are extremly hard to beat. Don't get me wrong, Maryville has done something so special, so amazing, it will be difficult for any team to repeat. The coaches and players are to be commended. I have noticed some Red Rebel fans on here who are very respectful of the opponents whomever it might be, and that is also commendable. They will be the ones who will take from that defeat, whomever it's from, a greater appreciation of what has been done. To some others on here it will be the bitterest of pills to swallow. Sinking into your chest like a stone that will not go away. Maybe years of success breeds arrogance in a few people. IDK we've never achieved anything like Maryville has, we probably would have some chest thumping too I guess. I guess we will lace em up anyway Friday night and see what happens. I pray for a safe game for both teams.(And good officiating, keep them safe too!) /hungry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":hungry:" border="0" alt="hungry.gif" />
  5. The things I don't really feel South has to worry about is can they compete talent wise with Marryville, or can they move the ball against Marryville. South has plenty of talented young men on their team. A few are getting some looks from some D-1 schools and D-2. Some of the Juniors are also getting some attention as well. So the talent is there. Now, is the talent there top to bottom like Marryville? The top to bottom I speak of equates into how many players play both ways. Most South fans are well aware of the fact that the Big Blue Rebs are probably the best conditioned team in NET. This has been proven repeatedly over the course of the season from the first game with Science Hill, to most recently in the playoffs. In a few games our starters did not play much at all in the second half. In all 3 playoff games South's offense and defense only got stronger as the games got into the 4th quarter. Now having said that, none of those teams were Maryville obviously. Being a school of an enrollment of about 1100 students going up against a school of about 1500 students, it could possibly make a difference depending on how many, and which players play both ways. I think coach Carter and his staff do a pretty good job with rotations on the O-line and D-line keeping them fresh. I'm not sure about Marryville's rotation, or how many players play both ways. In the playoffs I don't think Greenville or M-West had many players that played both ways. IDK maybe I'm looking too much into this. On the scoring part of it, having said that South can score, yes I think they can score on almost anyone, but Marryville probably feels the same way also. I think both defenses are going to be fired up and it will be a low scoring , hard hitting game. Well lower than most people think, over/under 38. Give them nothing! But take from them everything!!!
  6. Thanks for the info. Yes we all know about the new Science Hill coach "Gilligan", as some have called him. Souths best defensive game thus far was against his S.Hill team. There were so many hard licks that game, and the intensity was incredible. Coach Smith's system hasn't caught on up here yet. A quote to the SS Rebs: "Immortals.... We'll put their name to the test."-King Leonidas
  7. Just a little more info on what Curt Phillips along with his teammates have accomplished. This is from the Johnson City Press, written byDoug Fritz: For the season, Phillips has amassed 3,781 yds rushing and passing. That puts him in second place on the state's all-time list just 113 yds off J.P. Shelly's record. With 5 TDs against Greenville, Phillips tied the state record- also held by Shelly- with 52 total TDs rushing and passing. Phillips moved into second place with 1747 yds rushing by a QB. He also moved into 5th place for most TDs scored with 37. And he stands in a 6th place tie with Chatt. Red Banks Gerald Riggs, for rushing TDs with 36. As for passing numbers, he also went over the 2,000 yd mark in Fridays game. He now has 2,034 yds with 16 TDs tosses & 7 ints. Just thought some South fans would be interested in this. And I'm not sure who J.P. Shelly played for & when. Little help on this one would be appreciated.
  8. Lord Vader thanks for the kind words. The Rebel Alliance(South) is very well equiped, they're more dangerous than the Empire realizes. The Empire doesn't consider a small NET team to be a threat. An analysis of the plans has demonstrated a weakness in the battle station. But the approach will not be easy. The Rebel Alliance will be required to maneuver straight down the field and skim the turf to a point. The target area is only 20yds long. It's a small thermal endzone port, just below the goalpost. A precise hit by Captain Phillips(the force is strong in this one) followed by the rest of the Rebel Alliance will start a chain reaction which should destroy the Empire. Only a presice hit will set off a chain reaction. The endzone is raysheilded so we will have to use Fletchon torpedoes. The Empire knows if the Rebel Alliance has obtained a complete technical reading of this team, it is possible, to find a weakness and exploit it. In the words of Master Carter " Try not! Do or do not...there is no try." /ph34r.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="" border="0" alt="ph34r.gif" /> My appologies to George Lucas. /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" /> Remember South; your focus determines your reality.
  9. Sounds like a possible plant to me (trying to start a fire for Maryville), or someone who already had their steak eaten by Maryville(jealous of Maryvilles success). Either way it's totally classless to get on here and act like the North end of a Southbound horse.
  10. Does anyone from South actually read this guys junk. I don't, and this will be my only reply to him. Your eyes must be a really beautiful dark brown because you are definitly full of it. Move out of Mom & Dads basement and get a real life for Petes sake.
  11. Amen! Morgan is one of the finest young men you'll ever meet. He is an inspiration to me after everything he has been through and continues to go through, and still so positve and encouraging to those around him. He will be missed by his teamates Friday I'm sure.
  12. Rumor has it that Coach Carter, on the recording of his highlight show today is just gonna go ahead and forfeit the game to Maryville this Friday night. Yep, said his Rebels didn't stand a chance from what he had heard. Just gonna call it a season and be done with it. Said it just made sense because Maryville was so doggone good. Talked about how our QB (Phillips) coudn't throw a rock into the Patrick Henry Lake, and he was slower than molasses in winter time, looked like he runs in quicksand. Said the runningbacks (Fletch, Shanks) fold up like a dollar bill when the're hit. The line O & D was so soft their nickname was the Doughboys and I don't think that was a reference to WWI. The recievers(Martin,Johnson,K.K....) couldn't catch a football with a bushel basket. The defense gives up ground worse than France in ....well almost any war. So South should just move on, count their blessings, wait until next year, and just play teams in NET because they can at least have a chance to win a few. Whew! I was worried we might actually have to play Marryville. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> Remember this SS Rebs:" Victory always starts in the head. It's a state of mind. It then spreads with such radiance and such affirmations that destiny can do nothing but obey."
  13. I believe legedary Auburn Tiger coach Shug Jordan said it best "Remember,Goliath was a 40 point favorite over David." Go South! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  14. Thanks! How did your Bulldogs do. It sounds like you did well.
  15. Now Barb, if your gonna quote someone at least get it right. I believe some Greendevils have stated this one innacurately before. What Curt said was "They would not lose another regular season game." Guess what? They didn't lose another regular season game. Now I'm not going to tell you what he said to yhe coaches and team about the playoffs. He! He! That boy must have got that crystal ball at Parks Belk or somthin' cause it's a goodin'. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  16. This post is exactly what Cap1 and others are talking about with you KEV-O. If you don't like it when someone calls you out then don't make these smart #ss posts! I think Barb has a scrapbooking post site for you. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  17. Those who keep looking in the past cannot see what's coming down the track at them. /wink.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=";)" border="0" alt="wink.gif" />
  18. Now there's some class for ya! Do you know one of the reasons why the South fans defend him so strongly. It's because of the character and positive attitude he posesses, something you obviously lack of a great deal of. If he's so full of himself why would he risk getting hurt by VOLUNTEERING to return kicks, by VOLUNTEERING to play safety where cheap shots can be taken, and have been I might add. His tickets already been punched for WIS. , if he was so cocky as you described why would he risk all that? I'll tell you why, because he wants his team to win. It takes more character and heart to do those things, something you can only dream about. Lesser men have had this much attention and not been able to handle it, but this kid lets it roll off his back like no other. The main ingredient in stardom is the rest of the team. Nobody understands this better than Curt ,just ask him, I have, have you? Take your trash somewhere else. OH! Happy Thanksging!
  19. Happy Thanksgiving to everyone whether they be green, blue ,maroon, orange or whatever. Enjoy the time with your families no matter how much they annoy you or how much you love them. We miss the ones that can't be us this Thanksgiving. GOD BLESS you all and GOD BLESS our troops!
  20. Thanks and good luck to them Bulldoggies up there in Hampton. Not that you'll need it, but just in case. Great place to visit, you can watch good football, catch a few trout, watch the stars fall on the mountains, and maybe shoot off some fireworks to celebrate a Bulldog Victory. Beautiful Place. /cool.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid="B)" border="0" alt="cool.gif" />
  21. Comp this boy's done wandered to far from home. I think his Momma is looking for him on the Knoxville threads. He better hurry over there before he gets another ear full. Whhewee!!! It ain't pretty when Comp brings the hammer. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  22. Should be plenty of tickets avalible if you get there early Friday night. The schools only open 2 days this week so not much opportunity to sale too many tickets in advance. So put on your longhandles, get there early and... ALL ABOARD!!!
  23. Good post. I think another factor might have possibly been the fact Greenville had just been shut out by Boone and I believe Greenville already 2 losses. Not the reason we lost but a contributer. Plus the fact there wasn't many butts on the greenville side of the stands( That was shocking and dissapointing). I don,t believe South gave them enough respect. However I think the Greenville fans have come along as their team has. I think there will be a good contengent of Greenville fans Friday night at Death Valley and they definitly have South's attention now!!
