CHATTANOOGA (WRCB) -- T.J. Duncan's high school trophy case isn't full just yet.
The McCallie senior was named the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award winner for the state of Tennessee Wednesday by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum.
The honor is given annually to one wrestler in each of the 49 states that sponsor high school wrestling championships. Each recipient is evaluated on excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, character, citizenship, and community service.
Duncan became Tennessee's first-ever five-time state champion earlier this year, and wrapped up his Blue Tornado career with a 206-20 overall record. He has already signed a national letter of intent to wrestle for Maryland on the college level.
Unfortunately, Duncan was not one of the five regional winners chosen from the list of 49 state honorees who are now up for the national Dave Schultz Award.
The Southeast Region's national nominee is Caleb Ervin from in Morganfield, Kentucky. The Union County High School standout and Illinois signee amassed a career record of 199-7, winning three high school state championships.
