Duncan's high school trophy case isn't full just yet. The McCallie senior was named the Dave Schultz High School Excellence Award winner for the state of Tennessee Wednesday by the National Wrestling Hall of Fame & Museum. The honor is given annually to one wrestler in each of the 49 states that sponsor high school wrestling championships. Each recipient is evaluated on excellence in wrestling, scholastic achievement, character, citizenship, and community service. Duncan became Tennessee's first-ever five-time state champion earlier this year, and wrapped up his Blue Tornado career with a 206-20 overall record. He has already signed a national letter of intent to wrestle for Maryland on the college level. Unfortunately, Duncan was not one of the five regional winners chosen from the list of 49 state honorees who are now up for the national Dave Schultz Award. The Southeast Region's national nominee is Caleb Ervin from in Morganfield, Kentucky. The Union County High School standout and Illinois signee amassed a career record of 199-7, winning three high school state championships.

This was TJ's story Baylor had no 103 TJ was not going to make 103 so wanted to challenge for 112 they had a 2xx state champ at 112 so no challenge so to become a 5x state champ we left .Was there a 103 when zacks turn came i don't know . But i can tell you that zack would have been my 103 if ther was 10 kids there. zack works his butt off just like TJ .No hard feelings it worked out fine for us the fit at mccallie was great .Good luck Zack . Tj Duncan -160 University of Maryland (verbal 11/5 /10 ) signing maybe next week.

TJ didn't go to super 32 because he had a brusied ac and is not in good wrestling shape. And in an early post where it was said TJ was pinned at the NHSCA tornament the only losses he had was a 4-2 match and a overtime match. And to say he can't compete at a national level he beat Rivera who placed 2nd today at super 32 and majored Scott Gibbons who won Fargo this summer at Southeastern Prep Tournament in January. But He's good enough to place in a international tournament with kids ages 16 to 23 in the Ukraine and wrestled against the best Ukraine and Russian wrestlers ,trained with the Ukraine National team and was coached by John Peterson. He got second in that tournament But John Peterson said he won the match a product of being at an international tournament.And as far as not being recognized nationaly he is being recruited by top 13 D1 school who want him to sign early.I'm not trying to say TJ is the best wrestler in TN but his name always gets brought up in a negitive way on this board . This is a sport TJ is very passionate about and takes seriously. Good luck and hats off to all the wrestlers who step on the mat this year.

I agree with you Matthew, Jon is a great coach. Love's the sport , it's the closest you'll get to Terry or Tom Brands. In intensity and work ethic .My son has wrestled for Jon and loves him. He wanted to go to ODU because of Jon. Add Steve Hamilton ( dream team) you would get Tj .
