  1. Because it is easier to sit one on bench that has worked hard to improve than to get 8 - 10 more to work. I actually had one coach tell me he would rather have 5 bad players on floor and not play one that went to skill camps and played AAU and whose skill level was 2 -3 steps above rest because they looked better as a team and could not keep up with other girl. Then he says in paper how hard work is needed to earn a spot on team. Most coaches in E TN are lazier than the girls they coach. If you watch the games and read coaches comments in paper you sometimes wonder what game coach was at!
  2. I don't think that will be a problem, he will have Myers as a mentor.
  3. I was told by a teacher who was eating lunch in the caferteria on Friday when Morrell came through the school with the Principal and AD. Seems like he is interested. I was told by a parent it won't be Morrell. Admin doesn't think he can bring in the same level of commitment, enthusiasm, community support and ability to compete at the level of play coach Myers has in such a short time. They want the best for boys also. However I did detect a little sarcasm.
  4. Football and both basketball programs seem to be in shambles. When programs are this bad problem is deeper than the coaches. The administration needs to back the coaches and stand up to the parents of rec league superstars that are running things. No coach can have a competitive much less winning program when they are told who to play.
  5. Rumors are Myers is going to step in and do to boys program what he has done for girls and Anderson is going to take girls over again.
  6. Here's the other thread for Big 8 viewtopic.php?f=33&t=200759
  7. I know exactly when he came. Above that, I do recall exactly who was in the selection process to pick him. Does it shock you that some may actually be intelligent enough to know what their talking about. Who is his assistant coach? Well I'll be... it's none other than Coach Anderson. The same man who stepped down from head coach the same year Coach Myers was hired. He made his announcement to school officials and they opened up application processes for a replacement. You believe everything that Myers quotes to a newpaper reporter? Coach Myers is a hypocritical liar if I've ever saw one in my life. Absolutely everything he's said so far in any paper has been a farce. To teach the opponents what? How to sink to the bottom of a conference ladder faster than anyone in history. That's about all that's happened thus far this year. However, it really falls back upon athletes competing against each other instead of playing together as a team to win ball games. He sure is! Following that Vounteer tradition known as losing. Volunteer's girls are going to have to step up, use their talents and work together for the wins. After coming on strong last year and winning 10 -12 games I think Myers is trying to out coach his peers. I believe he does not want his team to peak before district tourney and show his hand. He does have an impressive resume from Lee and is very crafty. His system evidently works, give him time.

If things are as you have stated, have you gone to athletic director or principal? I can't believe an administration would sit back and let something like this happen. What was their response? Have any other parents voice same concerns? From the content of your posts you seem very knowledgeable and not just a disgruntled parent because you child is not playing. Hope things work out, kids deserve better with other life pressures put on them.
  9. No answer back to the constantly aggressive, hard playing M-East girls. They deserved this win because they ultimately were the ones who played well together as a TEAM and focused their methods for a win. Hands down, they pulled it off with absolutely no resistance from the Falcons typical game play behavior. The quote was a comment in paper on previous game a few days ago. I was just reusing it. Sorry for the confusion. Just pointing out these 2 get publicity no matter what.

Meyers’s quote “strong 1 – 2 punch” got another 2 paragraph write in today’s KPT sports section. Looking at the roster he is playing same 7 – 8 girls that started or saw significant playing time last year. It looks like no one has moved or quit, unless last couple of days. He is there to “rebuild the program”, give him time to implement his system.
  11. Coach Meyers stated at end of last season this year’s team will be a lot better than last years, he stated in one of this years basketball review publications that his girls would be a top tier contender in Big 8 conference, and he stated a few days ago in game write up this years team is ahead of last years schedule. What’s the problem? Sounds like he is doing what he was hired to do.
  12. Most teams have a couple of games under their belt. Any surprises, disappointments? From what I've seen this is pretty close.
  13. After jamboree, looks like you were pretty close And coaches poll is pretty close to what i said earlier. Big 8 will be interesting for top 5.
  14. I agree with wkktnvolsfan for preseason, top 2 could go either way, 3 - 5 will exchange places a couple of times and possibly pull off an upset or two and 6 - 8 will battle it out to see who stays off bottom.
  15. I heard one transfer from Central to South and Volunteer may be getting a 6' 1" senior post that is a player, all conference and 2nd team all state in WV and got a lot of attention at some exposure tournaments. Her dad is transferring to a sister company in the Surgoinsville industrial park because of job. Decision hasn't been made if family will come now or let her finish career year at current school. Nothing confirmed, but that would be a big boost for Meyers trying to rebuild at Volunteer.
  16. If I'm not mistaken North ha a pretty good guard and post last year, did they graduate? Did they play in summer camps? If do how did they look?
  17. Maybe, rumor has it Volunteers old coach is becoming somewhat involved with girls again and fact is Volunteers current coach does live in Greeneville. Interesting? Any thoughts?
  18. I sometimes wonder if the Volunteer girls program is any better, both times they played DB they kicked players and came up from behind and shoved players after play was over. I learned the skinny little girl that pushed one of our players at last game is just a freshmen, someone needs to do something to stop this crap now. If it ain't being coached it is coming from home.
  19. How does someone with seniority and talent that was a starter for 2 years overcome no playing time because of politics?
  20. You are right it has to start at the bottom and each player has to work on their own to improve. Myers now has some palyers that Anderson did not have that have good fundementals both offense and defense and work hard to improve. From what I hear they are a strong addition to Falcons and should see a lot of playing time. Myers should be able to put several combinations on floor that can produce. Falcons will be better this year! Anyone know how they did at scrimmages this weekend?
  21. Porter, Drain, Price, Gilliam and McFarland (limited) are 5 that had varsity playing time last year. Maybe a couple more. Only real lose was Bledsoe.
  22. Saw them at jamboree last night. They will struggle, to many turnovers from a team with 5 - 6 returning varsity players from last year. Hopefully new coacht will fix turnover problem have them handling pressure defense. They we be more competitive by mid season if they work hard. DB looks like team to beat this year!
  23. I have a niece that plays for DB and one that plays for Volunteer. One at DB is one of the ones that stayed. She got very little playing time last year and probaly won't play much this year, but she loves basketball and wants to be with her friends and team mates. From my nieces perspective some of the girls have developed attitude problems. They expect to play just because they did last year. They feel like they should not have to earn a spot. They are having a hard time dealing with competition from team mates. As for Volunteer my sister said they did not look good scrimmaging N. Greene this weekend. New coach has his work cut out. Said only player that performed well was O'Dell girl at post, several blocked shots and rebounds and she was high scorer. Say she is getting lots of playing time at scrimmages. They also have a girl that transfered up from Cherokee that is 5'10" - 5'11" that also got some playing time at post and was in at high - low post with O'Dell. Sister said it is hard to tell about Volunteer yet, they have two potential starters out sick last week (point guard and wing)and possibly out for next couple of weeks. Go DB!!! GO Falcons!!!
  24. I went with my sister to watch my niece who plays for Volunteer. Volunteer, with 2 of their strong players out sick, actually played MW closer than Elizabethton did. Volunteer made lots of turnovers, mostly bad passes, which I'm sure new coach will work on. Of course this was preseason scrimmage and hard to tell about any team with lots of subs playing. Look for a young Volunteer team to pull a couple of upsets this year.
  25. Went back and looked at how DB did against SH, TH, SS and SC last year, they lost 6 out of 9 and some of the weaker teams played them close. With basically same team returning this year they will be preseason favorites, but will be hard pressed to stay on top. I look for some of the bottom teams to pull some upsets this year, big nine will be more competetive than most people think.
