  1. Galyon is a very valid choice. He did a great job w/ not a lot of healthy bodies but when they did play they did have a lot of talent. If west can stay out of the training room next year, watch out Greeneville in the 08-09 season. Might finally make Greeneville work extra hard to keep their title. District tourny at Hal Henard...the first round games and the 2nd round #2 vs. 3/6 will be officiated just like the Green Bank Classic Games, but that 2nd round Greeneville game will be officiated just like a Greeneville home game. So be ready for a war #4/5 team b/c its gonna feel 8 on 5. But that is the luxury of having home court advantage. I'm still trying to figure out how an AD can just let that kind of advantage get away from him. /popcorneater.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":popcorneater:" border="0" alt="popcorneater.gif" /> Should be very interesting and can't wait to see some exciting basketball b/c there is always that upset in the making during that IMAC Tourny. Good luck.
  2. Just a lil tid bit, I'm assuming that you were at Cocke Co. and from the radio broadcast that I heard of this game, Nelson wasn't in there when Jeff made their run and had the press on that gave the Lady Red such fits. Also, she had 2 points (on free throws) against Cocke Co. so maybe Coach Lewis does know what he's doing over there. Obviously he did something right to come back and demolish East. First running clock situation I've heard of in H.S. basketball (I know it's a rule by TSSAA). I think there was some selfish attitudes late in the game at Cocke Co. and something was done about that obviously in the East game. Also, Nelson averages about 14 ppg, but most of those come on fast break opportunities and she could have a lot more of those but chooses to take some plays off in the backcourt or she could have about 18 ppg. Next year will be very difficult for Nelson when teams start being able just to key in on her. But to be honest, her ppg are slightly inflated and I would take the blonde girl from Greeneville, Budda, West, and Cherokee's PG's over her b/c they are more complete players and run the team much better than Nelson does. Great win for Jeff Co over East tuesday night and that gets them somewhat back into the picture and maybe it jump starts them into this 2nd half of the conference season. Maybe that rumor that Jeff Co fades toward the end of the year can be changed this year.
  3. I think that maybe taking quality shots and not just throwing something up at the basket is another key essential to Jeff Co. getting wins. There have been so many times that Jeff Co. has gone through a play and there isn't a quality shot so they get a lil trigger happy and throw up a shot and it tends not to go in. sometimes i see some selfish play out of some of the girls and see the same ones taking plays off on defense. This team does not have the talent to take any plays off. If you want a play off then ask Coach Lewis for a sub. When you only score 8 points in a half, then it's pretty obvious that you are gonna need to play defense as much as possible. I understand that they blew a 14 point half time lead tonight to Fulton. So inconsistant play continues to plague this bunch. I'm starting to think that there could be another losing season in Dumplin Valley. the 2nd in the last 3 years and the 2nd in the last 18 years. Hopefully these girls can get it together. Play hard and smart.
  4. West handled PF tonight at Holt Fieldhouse at Carson-Newman College. To me that would be a great experience to go to a college gym and play a game. Gave the girls the chance to be seen very easily by CN's coaching staff, which included a familar face to the IMAC. I just thought that it was a fun experience and I would have enjoyed that opportunity to play at a college venue when I played high school ball. West is looking pretty confident right now and that could be a dangerous ingredient w/ their young players. Confidence can make up for inexperience.
  5. The hiring of the new Jeff Co. coach was Friday, Monday were when tryouts were held. I got a chance to catch the second half of the Jeff/West game and to be honest with you, I was not impressed with Jeff's PG until the final 2 minutes when she actually decided to use her speed and play defense. She could be one of the quickest gaurds in the conference however it doesn't seem like she cares about playing defense. She would much rather be the girl who cherry picks and gets those easy layups. I heard that Elliott came out and banged in 2 3's for Jeff but then Jeff didn't seem to find her again until it was almost too late. If I had the conference leader in 3's on my team, I'd be feeding her the ball, just my opinion. Plus, there were several times that there was a lack of communication on what defense they were playing and that lead to several easy baskets for West. Oh and Goins looked like she was doing drills b/c she kept getting the ball in the same place and would make a move and put it up. Way too easy for her, but I think she will be a factor in every game if west is to be successful. After seeing this 2nd half of play, i think this year could be just like last year and be a crazy race at the end. Coach Lewis at Jeff Co. is a very capable coach. He has the desire and knowledge to be a H.S. coach. You talk about middle school and high school ball being different, when you take your team to the state tourny i 2 or 3 times in a row you have to know what you are talking about. He has talent, but just give him time to get these girls to play his system and from what I saw, Jeff. Co. has to get together and play tough defense for the entire game. After Christmas break I believe Jeff Co. will be a much better team on both sides of the ball. You can't really complain to much on offense when I look at the scores for jeff co. they are scoring over 50 points a game and 60 in the last 3 games. If you can score that much in h.s. you are giving yourself a chance to win.
  6. I believe she has a ribcage pull or strain. Or at least that is what is floating around in the rumor mill.
  7. Webb was missing their point gaurd and that made it an easier win for them? You want to clarify that statement?
  8. Thanks for the update. That will help the Mo. West rotation and depth. Will make the Mo. West/Jefferson Co. game that much more interesting. Should be an interesting night in the IMAC.
  9. Friday night kicks off the IMAC schedule. Cocke Co. traveling to Greeneville, Morristown East traveling to Cherokee, and Morristown West traveling to Jefferson Co. I know in basketball it's not how you start, but how you play come tournament time. With the IMAC coming off a season with a 4 way tie for 2nd place last year there has to be a sense of urgency to get off to a quick start in conference play. I think the Cocke Co./Greeneville game will be a battle back and forth with Greeneville pulling it out with free throws to make the the game appear not as close as it really was. Dickson can take over games but needs the other players to knock down some outside shots to make the defense spread just enough. I'm sure Cocke Co. will play their zone and concentrate on Dickson and with their size could make it very difficult for Dickson to score inside. I just don't know about Morristown East and with the team that Cherokee is returning plus the game being in Rogersville, I think Cherokee wins by at least 15. Cherokee was an extremely dangerous team as the season progressed last year and I expect them to pick up where they left off. East might have a chance if Cherokee has a terrible shooting night. Right now I have Cherokee getting that automatic bid to Regions. If Morristown West only plays 8 players against Jefferson Co. I think that the experience of the Jefferson Co. shooting gaurds and the quickness of their point gaurd could create a lot of fouls especially with it being played at Jefferson Co. But this is a rivalry game and the emotions could make this game really exciting. Unsure of who grabs their first IMAC win of the early season. Take in to consideration that Jefferson Co. went into a slump late in the year plus a new coach. Plus you have a young morristown west team. Could be a very interesting.
