  1. I'd like to brag on my boys a little bit... They put in a lot of hard work throughout the preseason. Here is a highlight video displaying some of it: Got a great group of kids this year! Hoping to start the season out with a bang next weekend and look forward to the Region One competition starting the following Tuesday in Jefferson!
  2. Try it on a desktop. I don't think the mobile site is working properly.
  3. I highly doubt Bynum will make 106 again. Corbin won't be more than 132. I'm still not buying Palmer being at 182 yet. I have to see it for myself. If that is the case, he'll probably need to alter his style a bit to wrestle with those big boys. Now he can start getting in wrestling shape since the football team is done.
  4. Watch out for freshman Trent Nelson (TN High). The 106lbers in Region 1 won't know how to handle his leg riding. I say he'll be one of the best leg riders Region 1 has seen in a long time and could see him following in Corbin's footsteps and being a region finalist his freshman year. TN High will also have a couple other freshman in the mix including Dewey Pendley at 26/32 (depending on where Corbin settles). Dewey and Trent are both calm, collected, smart, humble wrestlers like Corbin that find ways to win. Also, Austin Heagerman (220/HWT) was hurt last year as a freshman, but will do well this year....TN High is only going to get more and more competitive as these VWC kids continue to roll in there. Making our region tougher and keeping us on our toes. As for The Hill... the lineup will probably be a little different than people suspect.
  5. I believe that has been the biggest thing holding King back in the few years the program has been around. There is a lot of focus and faith in extremely talented athletes that don't have it together off of the mat. I have seen so many extremely talented guys from across the country come and go through the years I've been a part of that program because wrestling is the only thing they know how to control... I believe more focus needs to be put into hard working STUDENT athletes that can get it done in the classroom and you don't have to worry about bailing out of jail... Even if they may require a little bit more time to produce into solid college wrestlers.
  6. Cullen King from Cordova is still at King as well. He put on some solid weight through his redshirt season last year and I expect him to be very successful 133 at the DII level next year.
  7. Good to know. I don't believe my kids were aware of this.... I'll pass the word.
  8. Nope. No hope for these guys. Especially Jon. He got lucky his sophomore year and hasn't worked hard at all since then.... Joking. Of course these kids will do well. Especially with the new small school split. If everything goes as it should and they all stay healthy (and make weight at the region tournament) I think Jon should have a state title and a couple others should be able to get state medals as well. I like Josh's chance of finishing pretty high as a sophomore. Also, they'll have a tough freshman HWT this season as well.
  9. I agree that Storm is better than what was portrayed at the end of the season last year. He had a bad region tournament. The result of not being in a competitive room. He is always much more confident during the summer and performs better when he is. He put in work this summer getting in some competitive rooms and competitions out of state with me at Dixie Duals and OhioTofC. But I've seen many kids take steps backwards during the season because of the lack of a competitive room. I hope the best for Storm. He's a good kid. However, I will be rooting against him in a match against Max or a rematch against Sam of course.... And I do see him at 132. Possibly even 138 a little bit. He was walking around mid-high 30's this summer and his mom is very against cutting weight. Haegerman is solid! I look for him to do well this year also. Really hate he had to miss his entire freshman season. Those Varsity matches would have really helped him. As far as HWT, I do not see it being much different than last year... Just a mess! I just hope we can personally make something happen to separate ourselves from the current HWT talent.
  10. Tim, you get back in that red convertible and drive back up to Bristol... I'll give you to the count of fiiiivvveee. They are a A/AA team. But the best A/AA. I'm always up for putting our team against the best, and I am ok with losing to the best... But I don't like to lose to the little brother. There's more that goes into that matchup. (So I will admit I am a little afraid of my brother having that against me) But give me the date on that tri and I'll talk to boss man and brother man and try harder to make that happen! Who wouldn't want to see the Region Champs of both divisions in the region wrestle it out? I think it should be something that happens every year!
  11. We've tried. Tried to get them in one of our dual tournaments this season. But that fell through. Seems as it is going to be at least another season before that becomes a reality.
  12. I would loved to have gotten that match. I'm always up for a little brotherly competition! Unfortunately, it never happened, so we will never know how it would have turned out. Not taking any credit from my brother and Randy, but I'm not so sure that match would have been a Greeneville win. As you said, DB was extremely close twice last year. The Greeneville/DB match ended in a 55-15 win for DB. Granted, Jon wasn't in the lineup. But Atlas made a decent fill in saving a few points as DB forfeited 113. Otherwise, I think the match went how it should have. Greeneville peaked at the perfect time and had an amazing state tournament! Very proud of my brother and my alumni!.... But I also don't take losing to my younger brother lightly. The older brother always has to win! Lol!
  13. Will us who have paid and had the intention to attend be refunded? I know that the refund policy said that we will not if our wrestler is unable to wrestle, but surely we don't get penalized for a tournament not recieving enough interest... I would hope. A personal loss of $60 would cause me to be extremely hesitant about registering for any other local tournaments in the future.
  14. The room will also be open on Tuesday 5-7 for youth/middle school kids to do the same. If attending with a partner, you are, of course, welcome to attend both to get extra mat time. But I want to emphasize on the one day for the separate age groups to ensure great competitive partners/live groups. This could be a great thing if people take advantage of it.... Spread the word.
  15. We obviously need to improve. For those who want to get to the next level: Every Thursday from now through May the Science Hill wrestling room will be open from 5-7 for a little drilling and a lot of live wrestling. No charge. Just trying to get all of the best kids in the area in the same room once a week. That's what will make us better. To do a little name dropping, I already have 8 region finalists that will definitely be regularly attending: Gary Hudgins (SH) Jon Boatman (G) Corbin Hurley (TN) Andrew Armstrong (SS) Josh Vance (G) Griffyn Broyles (MoW) Logan Buck (E) Marshall Brown (G) Along with many other state qualifiers. I hope to get more of both. This takes little commitment. One day per week to get the best competition within an hour drive. I am extending a free invitation. I hope that some take advantage of the opportunity.
  16. Taylor beat Dake at Fargo back when they were both little 98lbers.

  18. They didn't qualify anyone for the National Tournament this year.
  19. For Dixie? A few changes: Bradley has decided to put a team together, so Dakota Bromley will be joining their team. This leaves Vance as the only 132. I will most likely wrestle Corbin at 132 some also. Max is focused on frolicking on the grass/beach and kicking balls right now, so he will not be attending. I'm glad that Shane will be getting all the matches at 138. I guess 50 wasn't enough for him to figure things out this season, so we'll keep adding to the number of matches and hope for the best. Jimmy Bowman won't be able to attend, so Griffyn will be able to stay at his normal weight of 152 and split matches with Ben Rolston. The 170 will be Raymond Kade from AL.
  20. Elementary and Middle School Allstar teams are set! 60 kids showed up to The Hill tonight to compete for a spot on the Region 1 Allstar Team! We have most all of the weights filled on the middle school team (and should be a very competitive team), but could use some help filling the upper weights on the elementary team. Please let me know if you know of anyone that may be interested in filling any of our empty spots. The tournament is this Sunday after the State Tournament. The Lineups are as followed. Elementary 40: Stevie Davis- Alcoa 45: Riley Napier- Heritage 50: AJ Murphy- Admirals 55: Kolby Barrett- Alcoa 60: Tyler Napier- Heritage 65: Hunter Cass- Alcoa 70: Tyler Seeley- Admirals 75: Reese Nelson- Vikings 80: Cooper Flynn- Pigeon Forge 85: Ryan Wimbley- Alcoa 90: Joseph Frye- Admirals 95: Ashton Davis- Pigeon Forge 100: 108: 116: 125: Joseph Vananda- Heritage 135: Brody Sloan- Maryville 148: 190: HWT: Middle School 75: Anthony Torres- Liberty Bell 80: Zeke Larkins- Rebels 85: Dylan Lemons- Rebels 90: Trent Nelson- Vikings 95: Dillon Pendley- Vikings 100: Garrin Shuffler- Greeneville 105: Tim Fisher- Alcoa 110: Josh Teaster- Heritage 115: Grayson Reed- Greeneville 120: Dewey Pendley- Vikings 125: Collin Meade- Rebels 130: 135: Gavin Hurley- Vikings 140: Bryson Henley- Vikings 145: Griffin Judy- Liberty Bell 152: Noah Evans- Alcoa 160: 171: Jordan Barr- Vikings 190: Jeremy Spangler- Vikings HWT: Sammy Evans- Alcoa Congratulations to all these kids who get the chance to represent our region in the state dual tournament and get a shot at qualifying for the national dual team!
  21. Coach, I'm taking two 195lb kids with me down to Dixie. One solid VA wrestler and a TN DI State Medalist. We won't have an extremely competitive team. I'm just more worried about getting these kids a bunch of good matches. If you cannot find another 195, let me know. I can farm the state medalist over to your team so you are more competitive and both kids get more matches.
  22. Griffyn contacted me after I already had two kids in the 152 slot. He was willing to wrestle 160 because he just wanted as many matches as possible. He'll most likely weigh in under 157 and we'll get him some 152 exhibitions also. I think a handful will do decent. Most all of them will take some beatings. It's a TOUGH tournament! But that's what it's all about during the offseason. I like that kids from so many different schools get to travel together and compete on the same team. Those sort of trips were my most memorable moments from high school. It's going to be a fun trip!
  23. Haha!! Glad I'm not the only one who notices this! Before I walked into the Top 100 at Union County, I looked at the other coach with me and said, lets count how many different times we see the word "Elite" today... Sure enough, it was on a flyer for some club on the check in table as soon as you walk in! Along with 3 others we counted that day. The word is horribly overused. The meaning of the word has been completely depleted.
