  1. I just wanted to make the "Sequatchie" thing realistic! haha. well, soddy shot 2559 today through 2 games. And we probably would have shot about 3810 if we'd had a third game, but the whole team wasn't able to stick around for the third game, so Matt and I shot 466 between just us two. Good luck to all teams in Regionals and sectionals coming up! /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" />
  2. Since Soddy has progressed to the Regional tournament, we decided to practice at the site of the Regional tournament, Tri-State lanes. During our practice, our six starters warmed up the first game by loosening up and finding lines to the pocket. Then, we chose to shoot 3 games to see what our outcome would be, and we did rather well. Our first game was a 1230, led by Cody Hunter with a 202, Matt Lyon with a 220, and Scott Demirjian with a 248. Our next game was also very good, as we improved by 99 pins for a 1329, which was led by Allyn Pickett with a 277, Matt Lyon with a 246, Wesley Williams with a 227, and Cody Hunter and Kaleb Langston both shot 201 (I had a 177). Then the other guys had to leave, so Matt and I stayed afterward and shot 466 between us (Matt=214 and I had a 252). Altogether, we had a 2559 after two, and probably would have shot around 1260 the last game, judging by the streak of strikes, lines, spare shooting, and Matt's and my scores. We should be expecting to shoot around 3720 to 3800 there, hopefully. Just letting anyone who's interested know how we're doing. Good luck to everyone at Regionals! Let us know how you're doing, too! /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  3. Congrats again to Scott for winning the second one he's ever attended. He qualified first seed and then beat Matt Giuliani to win another one. This one was in Canton, GA on January 11, 2009. ...Alright, I'm Scott. So I'll quit talking about myself in the third person now. Haha. Hi everyone /biggrin.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":D" border="0" alt="biggrin.gif" />
  4. Well, coach... For Scott Demirjian's information, could you specify exactly what you mean, please? Haha. /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> However, we do bowl against Sequatchie, which would make me a Sequatchie-bowler. And I'm 17 years of age. So there you have it.
  5. Here are the results for the district 6 tournament: Boys: 1st - Soddy Daisy 2nd - Hixson Soddy's pinfalls were 3666 the first match [1216, 1217, 1233] and 3585 (with 5 subs the 3rd game) [1308, 1224, 1053] Girls: 1st - Soddy Daisy 2nd - Chattanooga Christian As for Sequatchie, we almost squeezed out a victory over Hixson in the first round, but barely fell short. For Soddy, Matt Lyon bowled 1219 through 5 games and Scott Demirjian had 1362 through 6. Also, Kaleb Langston bowled very well against Hixson with a 259 the first game and a 211 the second. Wesley Williams also had some great games the first match against David Brainerd. Congrats to all of the teams who made it to regionals! Good luck to all of you, and please let us know scores and wins!
  6. The tournaments are beginning, and we want to know how your team is doing!! Post your outcomes and final scores with pinfall, high scores, etc here! Our district begins the district tournament tomorrow at Holiday Bowl Hixson! We'll let y'all know how we did, but we've gotta hear back from you too! Good luck to all teams!! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  7. Well, it looks like Scott has posted his 300 game on youtube, so take a look folks. Haha. And also, congrats again to Cody Hunter who bowled another 255 game today in a similar fashion as Saturday. If Soddy keeps bowling the way they've been bowling lately, 3900 is definitely within their reach!
  8. Although Soddy hasn't ever left all 6 of their starters in for all 3 games, if you take the averages of the top 6 bowlers from their team and multiply each by 3 you come out with about 3664. Highest scores through first two games are 2,635 and 2,620. 225.82 x 3 = 677 215.68 x 3 = 647 206.03 x 3 = 618 195.07 x 3 = 585 190.72 x 3 = 572 188.44 x 3 = 565 565+572+585+618+647+677=3664 High team series is 3962 though. Good luck to everyone in the state individuals!
  9. Here are some stats from Soddy's team. High series: Scott Demirjian (742, 719) Matt Lyon (730, 728) [(Practice: Scott Demirjian (809, 808, 797) Matt Lyon (811, 789, 735) Allyn Pickett (736) Kaleb Langston (689)] High game: Allyn Pickett (289) Matt Lyon (279, 279, 279, 278) Scott Demirjian (279, 269, 268) [(Practice: Allyn Pickett (299) Scott Demirjian (300) Matt Lyon (280, 280, 279, 279) Wesley Williams (269)] Averages: Matt Lyon (225.82) Scott Demirjian (215.68) Allyn Pickett (206.07) Wesley Williams, Cody Hunter, Kaleb Langston, Joseph Leffew, Andy Holden are all in the 180-198 range. Most Improved: Adam Gravitt (Started season w/ 120 average. Is now at 174.) High team game: 1351, 1331, 1289, 1284 (1373 and 1329 in practice) High team total through first 2 games: 2635 (2702 in practice), then 2620 at regional (1331, 1289) Allyn Pickett bowled 299 in practice, and Scott Demirjian bowled 300 in practice. Former Soddy bowler Alex Lain shot 300, 209, 300 in practice for an 809 series. Season record: 14-0 (now 18-0 through regionals) Soddy, though having a successful regular season, is capable of more than the statistics suggest. Good luck to all teams in the tournaments, and PLEASE POST SOME TEAM INFO!!
  10. Congratulations, Adam! Adam has a lot of potential, and I'm glad all his hard work and determination has paid off for him. Keep up the good work dude!
  11. I am replying to my own comment to further give props to my buddy Scott who shot a perfect 300 game in practice today about 3 hours ago. Not only did he shoot 300, he captured the entire game on film, top to bottom! It was part of an eventual 753 series, in which he compiled 19 consecutive strikes. Also, congratulations to Allyn Pickett of Soddy Daisy who bowled a 299 game in practice the other day to finish with a 736 series. He has worked harder than most other freshmen in our district to gain an unparalleled knowledge about bowling, and to develop a game that's as solid as a rock! Haha. Finally, let me congratulate a somewhat underrated Soddy freshman, Cody Hunter, for overcoming some serious alignment issues yesterday in the Saturday morning youth league. Although his first two games were shaky, he lined up very well toward the second half of his second game and proceeded to start the third game with the front 7 strikes for a 255. He has also been coming along very well for Soddy! Congrats dudes. /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  12. Congratulations to Scott Demirjian who apparently won the first Junior Gold Qualifier he has ever attended... Not only did he come in first, but he supposedly was the 5th seed after the qualifying round and then won four consecutive games in the step-ladder to earn first place. Looks like he actually figured out how to adjust to sport shots after all. Haha.
  13. In district 6 Sequatchie is doing well considering we lost a few good bowlers this past year... Hixson had a fairly successful season, losing only to a decent Soddy team twice. Soddy has finished the season 14-0, and has the potential to go to state if they can manage to pull everything together all at once. If anyone comes out of our district who has a chance to make it to state, it will probably be Soddy, who has shot 2,635 through two games earlier this season. Since they always put in their substitutes after two games when they've got the match already won, they usually don't have a full match with all 6 starters in. In order from highest first 2 games to lowest, I believe these are their scores: 2635 2592 2524 2491 2486 2457 2450 2442 2439 2424 2419 2403 2394 2377. Therefore, after doing some math, their average series score would be 3699.96. Also, congrats to a former Soddy bowler who I saw bowling the other day... He shot his first 800 series in practice bowling with a few other bowlers on the pair. It was an 809 series, and his middle game was 209. Congratulations Alex Lain /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  14. The Soddy Daisy boys' team has finished the regular season with a 14-0 record. However, will this streak last throughout the tournaments? Soddy shot 1351 in one game earlier in the season and followed it with 1284 to have 2635 at the turn. Though Soddy doesn't have the most powerful team, each and every bowler who bowls for them has shot very VERY well at one time or another, and if they all bring it at once they'll be very hard to beat. Matt Lyon led Soddy's team this season with an overall average of 223.32 as a sophomore, followed by Scott Demirjian with a 208.96 and Allyn Pickett, a freshman, with 205.53. When all these bowlers are hot, they're very hard to get past. On average, their six starters are likely to shoot 3,690 in a match according to my calculations. Also, congratulations to Ian Hutchison for being the fourth bowler in this district to advance to the state individual competition, along with the above three bowlers that were mentioned. Good luck to Soddy as the tournaments begin!
  15. Soddy Daisy's boys' team is doing very well so far. Through the first 8 matches they are untouched with a convincing 8 wins and 0 losses record, having an opposing team score no more than 7 points in any match. The district in which they play is relatively weak, however the numbers can do some talking: with all six of their strongest starters, Soddy has shot single game scores of 1266, 1260, 1256, and 1254. This would put them on pace to shoot around 3690, on average, if the best of their starters were to stay in for an entire match, which has not happened yet. Matt Lyon is leading the team in average thus far for the season with approximately a 216 average, followed by, in a very surprising twist, freshman Allyn Pickett who has achieved an average of approximately 207, followed by Scott Demirjian with an approximate average of 202. However, Soddy has a variety of players, some who are capable of throwing a brilliant load/unload ball, some who can put a lot of side-rotation on the ball, and some who can throw up the back magnificently, which almost guarentees that there will be a few of their bowlers having a good day on any condition. Despite the lack of high averages, Soddy has 3 bowlers with low 200's, 4 bowlers with 190 averages, and 2 bowlers with high 180 averages. There's a lot of room for improvement for this team, and a lot of diversity and versatility among them. They may not be state bound this year, but they will be great within the next three years.
  16. If you want your ball to hook more, try getting the oil soaked out of it at your local pro shop. Then, have it resurfaced and sanded gradually until it has acquired the hook potential you seek. Once you've done that, make sure that you clean the ball every time you go bowling with some kind of cleaner to remove the dirt and oil from within the ball's surface. It doesn't seem like it would make a difference, but it does. This is just a suggestion. Hope it helps!
  17. From what I understand, most everyone agrees on all the top contestants for the individual title: Gary Faulkner, Aaron Davidson, Brandon Barnes, Johnny Gillis, Matt Lyon, Scott Demirjian, and there was some mention of a few bowlers from White Station and Siegel as well. Any others?? (By the way, congrats to Scott's dad for bowling an 833 the other day. haha)
  18. The high school bowlers of Tennessee come in all shapes, sizes, and talents. Every year, we see a lot of good bowlers become great, and lots of new bowlers who have great potential. If you've worked on your game over the summer and straightened out some kinks in your form, post it here! Let us know just how much time you've put into becoming a better bowler!
  19. Does anyone know if the coach has any bowling experience? Also, does anybody know the line-up on the teams, and if they are new to the sport? I realize that probably no one other than Signal Mtn. bowlers would know the answers to these questions, but it's worth a shot... Good luck Signal Mtn., and I hope you have a great season! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  20. Thanks very much for the input. Those guesses seem accurate, at least for the time being. Yes, it is rather early, but I was just looking for some opinions. I'm very glad to have gotten a response! Keep 'em coming!
  21. If you've got a hunch at who might be the state champs this year, let's hear about it. Last year, Columbia Central won the Division I boys' title while the Division I girls' state champs were Hendersonville. Now that the new season is just around the corner, tell me who you think will be crowned next year, boys, girls, or both if you wish. Also, feel free to post who you think will be runner-up, etc. on each side. Don't hold back, post all your thoughts! /thumb[1].gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":thumb:" border="0" alt="thumb[1].gif" />
  22. My fastest serve is about 60. I don't play tennis... haha:D
  23. Go for it. I'm sure he'll be happy to sign an autograph for you.
  24. I've observed some scores of Scott's and Matt's, and from what I can tell, Scott is the better bowler. He's been averaging about 230 per game lately, as where Matt is fortunate to break 600 in a series. Maybe Matt's just in a slump, but Scott is certainly on fire.
  25. I'll be the one to get this topic off the ground, I suppose. Haha XD If the lanes are soaked down to 50 feet, I usually play deep inside the lane, going from 24 to 17 or so. Then, I simply adjust according to whether or not the ball is hitting the pocket. If the lanes are only oiled to about 35 feet, I begin playing straight up the 8 board and move from there. Also, if I notice that my ball is rolling out very early and I want to get a little more length, I will normally do 1 of 3 things depending on how comfortable I feel with any of them. First, I might try moving both my feet and my target 1 board left (or right for a lefty) to get into the oil a little more. If I'm still having problems, or if I don't want to move my line, I'll change my hand position to get more length on the ball before it begins breaking. To do this, I try to keep my hand behind the ball and get around the side of the ball as cleanly as I can. This usually helps me get about 2 or 3 more feet of hold, which can be just enough sometimes. Lastly, if I still need to keep the ball from hooking too early, I'll do one of the above recommendations along with lofting the ball an extra 2 or 3 feet down the lane so it doesn't lose virtually any energy at the front end of the lane. To do this, I simply straighten my sliding leg to become taller at the release. This will send the ball down the lane a little higher up in the air, and could potentially turn a heavy finish in the pocket into a picture perfect strike. I hope these tips will help some people who are having trouble finding a line. If anyone wants to add any tips, please do so!!!
