  1. Wanted to take a moment to give huge "KUDOS!" to Senior Lady Devils Brianna Kelley and Morgan Shipley for their Senior Season. Since the local press and coaches felt the need to give one final slap in the face (all county selections) to these girls either by ignorance or lack of research, it should be noted that there would be NO WAY the Lady Devils would have made it back to the State Tournament without them. Kelley simply took over and made it happen in both the Elizabethton (regional) and CAK (sub-state) games. They both sacrificed their stats to honor the wishes of the coaching staff and the "program" so I guess it's no surprise that the press didn't understand what talent they truly possess. Fortunately for them personally, college coaches and recruiters do their due dilligence and had the opportunity to see them play AAU which really allowed them to showcase their talents. One of them has already signed a full scholarship and the other is considering several offers. Just wanted them to know that not everyone has their heads in the sand and we noticed how truly phenomenal you are. You will be missed greatly and best of luck in the future!
  2. Thanks sparky...alas, it was not to be. Besides it just not being our best game it really came down to two things - foul trouble and FOUL SHOTS! The refs were calling picky both ways...they hit theirs and the Lady Devils didn't. They hung in there and stayed close. Christopher was phenomenal even with only one hand. Storey was a beast down low but she couldn't do it all and we really needed a little inside-out going to play catch up with some threes...Shipley and Kelley didn't get many looks. But overall they played their hearts out and left it all on the floor. Great Season for Greeneville and Greene County Basketball! Has there ever been 3 teams from one county at the State Tournament before? I know it would never happen but could you imagine what a powerhouse Greene County girls' basketball would be if we had one consolidated high school? Great Season Girls!
  3. Hate it for them SO MUCH! I agree - keep your heads up...GREAT SEASON LADY HUSKIES!
  4. Ok for the record, Benton, TN isn't flat......so I don't think its safe to assume logcabinman is a "flat-lander" Just to reverse the stereotypes a little, anybody west of K-town is a flatlander to me, Barb...yeah, they may have one or two peaks and a few little hills down that way but nothing like our big, beautiful mountain ranges...The way the draw went, looks like it's shaping up to be Hillbillies vs. Flatlanders - GO GREENE Okay, for the record I can't even get cell service at my house because I live between 2 big ole knobs. 2nd I am just stating my humble opinion. I have stated that to get to this point you have to be a good team, but I could not see in the schedule that SG had beaten a quality team. This means nothing. It may be because of scheduling. Does not mean they are not better than Polk, just that I was looking at there schedule and it did not look as tough as some of the other regions. Our district is same in football, our best team in district usually gets it handed to us first round even though we might have 9-1 record. Don't get all in harms about an opinion because SG has just as much chance winning this as Polk. To answer you question Polk has beaten McMinn Central who was #1 at time, Chattanooga Christian, and Chatt. Brainard, aslo another big school that did good in Georgia. "Can you hear me now?" LOL - LCM, please understand we really are only poking fun at ourselves and are rarely anything but lighthearted on these boards. The only time us Greeneville/Greene County folks get riled is if someone personally attacks our kids/players. We do still get in a little bit of a snit when our teams are underestimated but we have learned to use it to our advantage...case in point GHS football this year - the "Who Dat?" team that dismantled and surprised every post season opponent all the way to the State Championship game. Good luck to both teams - sounds like you are very evenly matched and very similar in your style of play.

  6. Any girl that plays with anything broken has my respect. It does seem it would make it hard to control the ball. She has to be wearing some kinda brace or something right? You also have to take into consideration the fact that McMinn Central has been at the Boro for about the past 12 years with about maybe 1 or 2 years not present. These girls from MC, with the exception of the freshman have been every year if not mistaken. It's going to be a battle...GHS is one of the most balanced and overall strong team around. They don't have weak guard play with or without Christopher. They are just more comfortable in their offense with her running it and allows the other guards more opportunity to score instead of having to direct the offense. They will be fine either way. And GHS has been to the Boro the last 6 out of 7 years in AAA so they are no stranger to the atmosphere either. Probably be one of the best match-ups of the tourney. As far as the "quality play" you mentioned on the Polk/SG board, GHS knocked off an EXCELLENT 4th Ranked Elizabethton to make it to the Regionals.
  7. What about quality opp.? Here we go again...another flatlander that thinks there are NO quality team East of Knoxville. SG and GHS are the real deal...let's go down there and prove it and see each other in the finals...GHS might even have to do it with one hand literally tied behind our back...now wouldn't THAT be somethin'???
  8. LOL - I would have liked to have pulled an "Earnest T" and thrown a brick at little "Barney" He was ridiculous! And YES it would be awesome to have all three at the 'Boro...GO GREENE!
  9. What happened to the starting point guard? She played extremely well, and truth be told, was the difference in the game against EHS. She broke her hand at the end of the EHS game and is in a cast and out the rest of the year If I'm not mistaken, during or just after the collision with your daughter (possibly during the fall), she broke two bones in the top of her left hand...although she continued the last couple of minutes of the game in pain. You're right - she is definitely a playmaker! We missed her last night! Glad to hear your daughter is okay.
  10. Austin East comes to South Greene and Greeneville goes to Christian Academy of Knoxville...any thoughts or input on these match-ups?
  11. Tough loss tonight Lady Devils but Coach sure has to be pleased with how well and quickly they adjusted to being without their starting point guard. By Saturday, they should be feeling much more comfortable with the situation. Keep it up Lady Devils...kinda wanted a little mini road trip anyway...good luck at CAK!
  12. You are "spot on" sportsfan! Greeneville is very used to getting NO RESPECT! (Just look at our football team's journey this year.) But this win tonight was really only a huge upset to the clueless AP voting sports "journalists". Most everyone that truly follows and supports the Lady Greene Devils knows how good they are and I suspect they may have discovered it for themselves a little more tonight. Elizabethton is a fantastic team -- the Lady Cyclones played their hearts out -- what a battle! Tonight GHS had the right formula and everyone stepped up and played their roles perfectly and it also seemed that the Lady Devils were better conditioned, especially at the end. Great night for Greene County Basketball! NG, SG and Greeneville all advancing! Congrats to ALL!
  13. Check and check! Two awesome teams will meet for the 2nd time in less than a week with a championship title on the line. Congrats to both teams for qualifying for the sub-state ... super exciting basketball being played in Greene County and the BRAC this year!
  14. True the loss to Greeneville early in the season did not have to be counted on their record since it was Hall of Champions. However, Elizabethton did not beat GHS by 30. They pretty much beat our JV by around 20. Coach pulled all the GHS starters (made them put their warmups on and sit at the end of the bench) in the 2nd quarter because they weren't giving the effort she felt they should. In their defense, this was the very next night after their win over SG and I'm sure they probably didn't have much effort left TO give. Upside, the spunky little JV squad held their own. All this is to say that we can't really compare by what happened in either one of these games back in November/December. Both teams have matured and blossomed to excellence. It's tournament time and both teams should be conditioned to play night after night now no matter what the circumstances. It should be a heck of a game!
