  2. Great Game! Seymour played like they had seen a soccer ball before, after stinking it up for the last week and a half. Alcoa is all heart and hustle and really answered every challenge we gave them. I agree with Akula in saying the crowd got their money's worth. Also agree on the two man crew, we were very disappointed to see only two guys show up. Had a meeting earlier this week with the AD and he threw out the idea of a four man crew for soccer, which would be great but never going to happen with the shortage of refs we apparently have. I will say that the crew did a pretty good job. These two teams are really becoming a good rivalry, with a lot of respect going back and forth among the players. The last three matches have been two ties and an overtime. I hope we get to see a rematch!
  3. I may join you, if the weather gets too bad! I am just glad we are playing at 7pm instead of midnight. We can leave the "midnight madness" to CAK! I hear their coach is wimpier than you anyway? /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  4. I agree with this post, there are so many factors that influence the refs, they are only human after all. I wish we as coaches would keep that in mind in the heat of the game. I wish even more that fans would keep that in mind. How does a 16 year old react when he hears Mom or Dad screaming at a refs decision, many times that young man is going to think he has been wronged and do something to "get even". I know it is this way but I hate that some schools have the reputation of being hard on refs (especially if it is my school). This also must influence the mindset of the ref coming to those places. In a perfect world, refs would be nonjudgemental and unaffected by the criticism and remarks they hear, but who are we kidding, they are. What can be done about it "the best advice is to keep calm. A team that is respectful to the ref (even if he has a bad game) will eventually become a ref favorite." I really like this idea, I feel that fans have had an impact on games with their negativity taking energy from the players. I had a former player tell me that it really affected him and the team when the fans stopped cheering the team and started "riding the refs". We, the adults should remember we are supposed to be role models for the "Kids" that are playing, they will follow our lead, we must lead in the right direction. I don't want to be accused of bashing but I do want to say that in all the athletic events and games I have seen and been a part of involving five different high school sports, over 23 years as a coach and player, the soccer officials I have seen, come to the field with a combative attitude and personality that does not help in most situtations. It is as if the refs, (not in all cases but in more than is acceptable) do not look to calm the situations but want to demonstrate their power and authority, and this only brings out the worst in people. I imagine (and maybe I am dreaming) that refs are like Peace Officers, whose job is to control the situation while keeping people calm and not there to instigate more upheaval. Again we should all remember, true character is revealed in times of stress. what are we showing our kids in the stands, on the sidelines and on the playing field at soccer games????
  5. Congratulations akula on the big win against Oak Ridge. You all should celebrate that one all the way til next week. Plan parties thursday and friday night to honor the big win. Your guys deserve it. What did you think of number 21 for Oak Ridge, Pretty good Huh?
  6. Lets see what friday brings before we start making such statements. When does Carter Play Sevier County?
  7. At alcoa we are kicking off at midnight! Just kidding actually 7pm
  8. Akula to clear up something from a previous post I thought we would put people in mind of Randy Orton and John Cena with the wrestling analogy! But on the game friday night I predict Hey do you have any contact information for the coach from Cosby or Berean, I have been trying all day to contact them to get results so we can start looking at the district seeding for the tournament. If you have a number for Cosby can you email it to me. Please. We will bring who we have and play who we bring and hope for the best. If we end up 3rd seed in the district wasn't that where you guys came from last year?
  9. Yes I appreciated the call! It is always good to talk to you. We do have a game on the 25th, I am not sure who it is against, I will have to look at the schedule. /dry.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=" EastTnref is accurate in the deck being stacked against us with red cards and injuries. I propose we forgo the game and I will wrestle Akula for it on the field. I think I can take him. /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" />
  10. "I wish those teams in West knoxville would be considerate and not schedule their games on the same night we play so we could get a little pub like last year. I make this comment in jest. Your games are given publicity because the teams participating have accomplished a lot and are contenders to win it all again. They deserve it. Our district is developing some fierce rivalries and I hope one day we can recieve the same level of attention that you all get, but that is a matter of earning it. As far as working something out for next year look at TSSAA.org and the link to discussion of changes to districts and you will notice one option is a district which includes CAK, Catholic, Alcoa, Seymour and Berean for 2010. Very interesting The publicity last year was not what we had in mind, although the kid that made the winning goal was named Texas roadhouse athlete of the week on Sportstalk, that was positive publicity, and I was hoping some free food for the coach would come out of but...
  11. Carter wanted it more and showed in their play. We couldn't match their intensity for whatever reason; burnout, injury, fatigue, 7 games in 7 days, regardless of what spin you put on it Carter was the better team Friday night. I have a feeling we'll meet again! I look forward to a second chance. I wish those teams in West knoxville would be considerate and not schedule their games on the same night we play so we could get a little pub like last year. What doesn't kill you just makes you stronger!
  12. Thanks Akula, See you next week!
  13. We were concerned about you having to make that long drive to watch the game and worried that it may be too hot for you once you got here. haha
  14. We hope! He is a great kid and you hate to see anybody go out with an injury, especially a senior. DB lost one of their senior starters with a broken leg last weekend. G I know you are close to the Greenville coach, I have to say they are the most physical team I have ever seen. But what doesn't kill you just makes you stronger! Akula if you are worried about the weather you must be lazy and a wimp! /roflol.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":roflol:" border="0" alt="roflol.gif" /> If I don't see you this friday, we'll see ya next friday for sure.
  15. It was the scariest injury I have ever seen, his pupil filled with blood coming off the field. The trainer was scared of something very serious and sent him straight to the ER. He will be fine but cannot play until released from the Doctor. I think Head Coach Bobby Norwood did a great job handling his absence on the field. We are looking forward to the game friday, it should be a great contest. We have the utmost respect for Coach Chunn and all the players at Carter especially Mark, He has some amazing moves. The game last year was one of the best I have ever been a part of. Both teams played hard and displayed good sportsmanship, the outcome was in doubt until the final minute. Some minor issues were blown out of proportion by the Newspaper and that got all the attention. Can't wait until Friday! Akula, Your lazy, get off your butt and drive to Seymour.
  16. When I heard the rumor that Mark had transfered to CAK I imagined he and Brandon playing playing together and had nightmares. One of Seymour's players said last year that you really wish you could hate Mark because he is so good but you can't because he is such a nice guy! The game is friday night at 6:30 which is a time change to accomodate JV afterwards. Akula if your not playing come see us.
  17. Coach Calvert and his crew did a great job with this tournament, it was an outstanding experience for our team. The Seymour-Oak Ridge game ended in a 2-2 tie and a PK shoot out was the tiebreaker for 3rd place in the tournament. Oak Ridge won 2-1 on PKs. Congratulations to Coach Calvert and the DB team! Congratulations to Coach Shephard and the OR team!
  18. Orangecrush is accurate in describing AC they play very hard and work well together. The game I saw was in the slop so I didn't see quickness or speed. It should be a great game on Monday. Good luck to Anderson County and CAK! Coach Woodfin and Coach Gerlach are great guys!
  19. SD 3 Seymour 2 South Doyle played hard. Seymour did not play their best game. I believe Akula has been talking about inconsistent play. We can relate. Anderson county looked good in beating Jefferson County 2-1. The Champion of the First Annual Smoky Mountain Invitational Soccer Tournament was...Mother Nature
  20. Seymour has two quality keepers, seniors Garrett Becker and Garrison Taylor. Becker has more experience and played in some of the bigger games last year. He made all-district and all-region last year. Taylor is more aggressive and being looked at by some small colleges. Keep an eye on these guys if you get a chance to see them play.
  21. Seymour is hosting a tournament for the first time this year. We are starting small and hoping to grow bigger over time. The plan is to double in size next year with Sevier County High School co-hosting with us. This year we have South Doyle, Jefferson County and Anderson County participating. ANY and ALL Advice from coaches experienced with hosting tournaments would be greatly appreciated.
  22. Seymour 3 Portland 1 Thur march 27 at Seymour Portland and Coach Glazer are a class organization and a good team. Seymour would like to to thank them for coming down for the game.
  23. Socceraddict brought up a great point. In those lopsided games where one team can literally score at will, how much is too much? 8, 10, 12 goals what is the stopping point? I saw a team winning 8-0 and put restrictions lof scoring on headers from crosses and the losing coach still got upset. It is tough being on either side in games like that. But how much is too much? Any opinions?TSSAA has slaughter rules in football and basketball where the clock continously runs. I hope it is just a matter of time before they implement the 10 goal rule that G mentioned. I hope it is soon.
  24. Berean played Seymour JV the past two seasons and won both games. They play disciplined and have some good athletes. I expect they will finish in the top half of the district. Yes, Their girls were very good.
