  1. Does the TSSAA use the same scoring system that Brad (fiscon) uses for the tournaments he does? I ask because I tabulated the brackets and came up with a different score. First total was Baylor 271 and Father Ryan 281 I then deducted the 3 bonus point for Ryan at 112 due to injury default Baylor 271 -- Ryan 278 TSSAA must use a different scoring system. Brad can you or anyone please clairfy?
  2. Middle School Division Nicklas Smith from Tullahoma won Group 7 @ 100 Kenneth Garrett from NCW won group 9 @ 105 and Ricky Fisher from NCW won group 16 @ 145 (group # may be wrong) That is all I am certain about.
  3. I could only tell you a couple of the group winners, I only know like 3 or 4 group winners at most. 100lb group 7; 105lb group 9; and I think 145lb group16? not sure on the group #
  4. I saw 4 different refs, 3 out of the 4 did not know what they were doing. Not giving backpoints, not callling locked hands, and worst of all not knowing enough about illegal holds or potentially dangerous. Also there was no trainer on site. The tourney overall was run very smoothly, round robins went as quickly as they could other than the refs getting pulled to the scoring table almost once every match.
  5. I certainly understand that they cannot seed out to 16 places, but if everything is a just drawn out of a hat after the top 6, if they pull 2 byes out back to back they are not going to put them vs each other in a bracket. My point is if they have 12 kids in a weight class they know they will have 4 byes, seed out to 6 then put the byes in vs the top 4 seeds, then pull the rest out of a hat to fill the bracket. It just seems more logical than making any wrestler no matter how inexperienced, equal to a bye.
  6. So it is random, that seems way to arbitrary. Like a #10 seed getting a bye??, just seems weird. Thank you for answering.
  7. Can someone explain to me something that should be self explanatory but somehow is confusing. The seeding in the brackets for DII. If there are not enough wrestlers to fill the 16 person bracket, there are bye's; why is it that the highest seeds do not get these byes? They seem to me to just be put in randomly. I know it cannot be random, and I hope there is a simple explanation, but I cannot figure out how a 3 and 4 seed get a bye and the 1 and 2 seed have to wrestle the first round??? It goes on and on that way throughout the weight classes. Can someone please shed some light on this?
  8. Having been at this meet and watched all the matches, I must point out one telling thing about this particular match. The baylor hvy was backing up the entire match, even his own coach was signaling him to shoot or do something positive. I only saw him attempt to circle, instead of just going backward off the mat, twice. Each time he tried to circle, which was right at the edge, that allowed the FR hvy to get in tighter and throw him to his back, which always ended off the mat. When the ref finally waived the match off for the third stalling call, the baylor hvy looked over at his coach and the coach just lifted his arms, shrugged his shoulders as if to say what did you expect? He never attempted one offensive move. The refs made the right call and by the actions of his coach I would say this was on the wrestler, in other words he was not coached to stall, he did not come to that match ready to wrestle.
  9. If a wrestler makes it through an individual state champoinship bracket and is the winner, he is state champion(period). No person can take that away from him, no loss after that whether in a dual meet or in a summer tournament or otherwise can erase that hard earned fact. He had his hand raised as a state champion and nothing can "taint" that. He will be proud and even more confident to go out and wrestle for his team.
  10. Another perfectly good reason to hold the duals after the individuals. It solves a host of issues and resolves all the arguments on this topic. If individuals are complete, there is no reason that these top ranked kids would not wrestle each other in the state duals. Their individual accomplishments are complete and now they wrestle with the team in mind, wrestle harder for those bonus points in a tight match, risking moves they would not in individual competition. If TSSAA were to flip flop the dates all things would work themselves out.
  11. Based on recent comments concerning the lineups...some changes in scoring.....very conservative look as both teams are very good at not giving up bonus points. Maurizi 103 Watson dec - 0-3 Simpson 112 Manley maj - 0-7 Griffith 119 Doster dec - 0-10 Brewer 125 Whitaker fall - 0-16 Bateman 130 Cole Hayes dec - 0-19 Austell 135 Stavrum fall - 6-19 Marchetti 140 Chanse Hayes dec - 9-19 Hussey 145 Shuford fall - 9-25 Miller 152 Popp dec - 12-25 Wesley 160 Idlette dec - 15-25 Goodrum 171 Shufford dec - 18-25 Mix 189 Mackey or Green dec - 21-25 Clanton 215 Scott dec - 24-25 Hermann 285 Watson fall 30 - 25 Final 30-25 As has been said before numerous times, trading light for heavy. This will hinge on the middles between 135-160. Both teams will be looking for bonus points anywhere they can find them. So even if you take the (2) falls away from both sides it evens out.
  12. ghouse, you could not be more correct. It should be some sort of a holiday. How can they expect us to get fully prepared when we have to work all day Friday. It is hard enough trying to work all week and keep up with coacht boards!!!
  13. Just curious, Has the TSSAA ever thought of changing the schedule to have the individual tourney before the dual tourney? This is the way many other states schedule it, risk of injury, loss of seeding, etc are all put to rest if duals come after individual, just a better way to do it for the kids. Any thoughts?

  15. One scenario if the match starts @ 103 with these line-ups Maurizi 3 103 1 Watson maj - 0-4 Simpson 4 112 2 Manley fall - 0-10 Griffith 2 119 4 Doster dec - 0-13 Brewer 3 125 1 Whitaker fall - 0-19 Bateman 6 130 1 Cole Hayes dec - 0-22 Austell 2 135 6 Stavrum fall - 6-22 Marchetti 1 140 3 Chanse Hayes maj - 10-22 Hussey NR 145 NR Shuford tech - 10-27 Miller 1 152 2 Popp dec - 13-27 Wesley 2 160 4 Idlette dec - 16-27 Goodrum 1 171 4 Helton fall - 22-27 Mix 1 189 5 Mackey dec - 25-27 Clanton 2 215 6 Scott dec - 28-27 Hermann 1 285 6 Watson fall 34 - 27 Final 34-27 heck of a meet, coming down to the last match!!!! I tried to be as conservative as possible with falls, but there are bound to be a couple on either side.

  17. TSSAA does not have DII schedule up. The only thing showing up is DI schedule. Does anybody else out there know?

  19. Who did Konz wrestle? Marchetti or Hussey?
  20. Any results would be very much appreciated..... PLEASE.
  21. Boys, boys, Please read my original post again and find the sarcasm in it. That is what these boards are for, isn't it? I admit this was just my feeble attempt at humor because we all know rankings mean absolutely nothing when it comes to such a colossal dual meet. I was just adding some levity to what is sure to be the best meet of the year. State championship on the line, these kids will bring so much more to the mat that night on both sides. They know what is at stake and rankings or not.... as they say... That is why they wrestle!
  22. Going soley by Matman individual rankings this is how things will most likely match up. This is a highly scientific model proven by MIT/NASA methods - (over beer and wings) Ryan vs Baylor Wrestler rank wgt rank Wrestler Maurizi 3 103 1 Watson Simpson 4 112 2 Manley Griffith 2 119 4 Doster Brewer 3 125 1 Whitaker Bateman 6 130 1 Cole Hayes Austell 2 135 6 Stavrum Marchetti 1 140 3 Chanse Hayes Hussey NR 145 NR Shuford Miller 1 152 2 Popp Wesley 2 160 4 Idlette Goodrum 1 171 4 Helton Mix 1 189 5 Mackey Clanton 2 215 6 Scott Hermann 1 285 6 Watson Now if you have enough cold beverages and mix in a pile of wings, add in a Purple Bus going 70mph meets a Big Red Bus going 70 mph, you can deduce that if you add all the rankings together, taking into account it is like golf and the lowest score wins. Remember, Highly scientific......... /smile.gif" style="vertical-align:middle" emoid=":)" border="0" alt="smile.gif" /> Ryan = 29 vs Baylor = 45 Looks like we have a winner!!! Anybody else hungry for Hooters????!!!!!
  23. Does anyone know the results of the middle school duals at McGavock? I heard there were going to be 12 teams competing?
