  1. TWF/USAW Annual Board Meeting Saturday September 10th 9AM-2PM Nashville TN (Location TBA) Hello, I hope everyone had a great and productive summer! I would like to take this time to invite everyone to our annual Tennessee Wrestling Federation organizational meeting on Sept 10th. The purpose of this meeting is to conduct our planning for the 2011-2012 season. It will include discussion and decisions on a variety of topics involving cheduling, budgeting, national teams, marketing, promotion, as well as, other items. We have had limited support towards our organization in the past. We as a board, have put in ountless hours and efforts to provide a USA Wrestling product to the state of Tennessee. We feel we are making great strides forward but need additional help. In order to help this state grow in the sport of amateur wrestling, we need people involved. I strongly encourage all current club members, parents, leaders, TSSAA coaches, and anyone else with an interest, to attend this meeting. We are very excited about the upcoming year! Discussion Topics for 2011-2012 Season: • USA Wrestling Annual Leadership Summit Review (New Policies for 2011-12 season from our governing body) • TWF New clubs adoption and training tools provided by USAW • USA Wrestling State Wide Development • Scheduling (State wide and discussion to bid for South East Regions to be in Nashville) • Financial / Budgeting / Fund Raising • National Teams • *** Dead Period (USAW Defeated the state of FL with regard to dead periods and its view of Freestyle and Greco Roman Wrestling. As with the TSSAA FL had very strict guidelines and did not view Freestyle and Greco as a different sport. USAW overcame this and won the lawsuit. We now have precedence and also Legal representation from USAW to approach the TSSAA about adopting new policy) • Elections of Board Where: Nashville (TBA on TennWrestling.com) Time: 9 AM - 2 PM If you have a desire to see wrestling progress in this state we need your involvement. Please join us in developing wrestling throughout the state of TN, your input and contributions are enthusiastically welcomed. If you have any questions or if we could help in any way, please do not hesitate to contact me. See you the 10th! Mike Hatcher State Chairman Tennessee Wrestling Federation 423-303-0760 coachhatcher@gmail.com Tel. 423-303-0760 Tel. 615-498-0700

  3. 170 as of this morning and we expect a good surge today, we think we will finish at around 250, lots of tough kids in each weight class so although they may only have 5 or so in each weight class it should pose to have some great wrestling. The brackets will go on an 8 man bracket for weight classes with 5 or more, those with 4 or less will do round robin. The way we figure is even if they go 2 and out on each style they will get 6 and the winning out would be around 9, consolation variations should get about 8-12 matches. See you all there Trick

  11. I would like to say I could confirm that, but after allot of negotiating I was unable to secure him simply due to the short time frame in which we got on his radar and his current schedule. We are going to try extremely hard to get him next year. I can tell you that at the USAW/AAU Tennessee Pride Open on April 30th we will have Les Gutches as well as one of the current world/olympic team members doing a free 2 hour session at the tournament. We at the TWF are working hard to restore USAW in this state and we will do all we can to bring it back strongly, and that means working exhausting hours with USAW to make these events and appearances happen. Find a USA Wrestling Club near you at our website www.tennwrestling.com, Freestyle season is right around the corner and most clubs are starting on March 1. Sincerely, Stephen Petricca Vice Chairman Tennessee wrestling Federation
  12. The TWF will have a table set up during every session of the TSSAA State Championships with literature, displays, and information about the opportunities for your athletes this off-season. A current board member will be in attendance at each to explain what we have to offer, if they choose to compete this spring and summer. This will provide the athletes, coaches, and parents the opportunity to ask questions and see the benefits of participation in the TWF events this season. On Saturday during the consolation rounds, Les Gutches, the Director of Program Development for USA Wrestling, will be in attendance at our booth. For those who are not familiar with Les, here is a list of his credentials: Please take this time to stop by and talk with Les, about the ways and benefits of starting or continuing a USA Wrestling program, at your school or club. This will also be a great opportunity for you and your athletes to come by, meet, question, get an autograph or photo, etc with a true legend of USA Wrestling. Please pass this information on to your athletes, parents, and spectators, we would love for them to take advantage of this. We at the Tennessee Wrestling Federation are 100 percent committed to the promotion and participation of wrestling in the state of Tennessee. We have instituted a great deal of changes and upgrades of being a member of USA Wrestling. When you get time, go to our new website, www.tennwrestling.com, and check out the latest info and happenings in our organization. We are very excited about the positive response we have gotten so far about this upcoming Freestyle/Greco season. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us. Best of luck this weekend to all the competitors! Stephen Petricca Vice Chairman Tennessee Wrestling Federation
  13. We will have a Hamm VS Bosken D1 prediction rankings coming out by tomorrow (2/14/11). I think Garrett House will also be providing a D2 prediction. TWF
  14. we will have 3 practices a week at Lipscomb and an Open Mat for ALL Clubs in Middle TN at BGA on Sunday evenings.... In order to be able to participate in the Open Mat you need to be a member of one of the Middle TN Clubs, Lions Pride, Wasbo, or Nemisis. thanks for your interest and I hope to see you on feb 22nd at our preseason meeting. remember, Coaches train for free so you can take that knowledge back to your wrestling room. Thanks Coach Trick
  15. Nearly every off season program charges between $50-$100 per month for EVERY location in the state. To be able to get great training, exposure to national champions, All Americans, and Olympic Wrestlers for $50 a month is ridiculously low. Let me put in perspective for you. Most parents will send their kids to a 3-4 day camp for the "Head Instructor" shows up on day one and tells some stories then turns it over to their college kids for $300-$400 for 10-20 hours of training. Not to mention that the information is crammed in and the retention is limited. Then they dont get to put into live situations and allowed time to be critiqued and instructed. Dont get me wrong, camps are great and i encourage my kids to go to as many as they can as they help. But to compare a camp for 10-20 hours for $300-$400 versus 3-4 MONTHS season/camp for less with highly credentialed coaches is a bit short sided on your part. How its done is having your kids in programs where they are getting exposed to national athletes, instead of insulating themselves in the Chattanooga area and pretending that is the best wrestling in the world. The larger percentage of kids from all areas of this state that successful if asked would tell you they are traveling all over (out of state) to get better competition.
  16. The statistics are not crap, they are the actual 2010 state placers in top 6 at the TSSAA that were references against the 2010 USA wrestling membership base for the Tennessee Wrestling Federation, which I am the Vice Chairman of. I can assure you that the percentages are in fact 100% accurate and I also referenced my materials for information in all my advertisements. I have also received AUTHORIZATION from USA Wrestling to release this information on ALL of our advertisements as they went though the same information and VERIFIED it. If you would like the data that I scowered over for 5 hours, you are more than welcome to it. Additionally Les Gutches (1997 World Champion and 1999 World Bronze Medalist) and USA Wrestlings State representative went over this info. He will be at the TSSAA state championships on Friday evening and Saturday as the guest of myself and the TWF. You are more than welcome to stop by the USA Wrestling Table and let him know the statistics are crap. I'm sure he will have a few other stats that you might be interested in that show that Freestyle and Greco Wrestling drastically improves your wrestling skills and by default greatly improving your chances of placing higher in folkstyle competitions. This is not a profit game for anyone, its a passion to improve the wrestling in the STATE of TN. As the Junior National Coach I can tell you that although we argue about who is the best in the state, we forget we have to make sure our best can compete at a national level. We are behind and years away from "truely" competing and its our responsibility to improve wrestling in this state through off season programs with volunteers and clubs that host camps or season (for a fee or not). Simply throwing out a thoughtless comment like "he is full of crap" doesn't help anyone anywhere. As they say, If you are not part of the solution, then you are part of the problem. Incidentally there is a large number of Chattanooga area wrestlers that are OFF season wrestlers, you would have to be connected into the community to know that so you lack of knowledge here is understandable. The Chattanooga freestyle programs produce around 150-200 off season wrestlers every season, without fail. Coach Trick Lions Pride Grappling Vice Chairman Tennessee Wrestling Federation
  17. and what are you referring to a refund.... Did you train with me or my club or any of the coaches that were involved? just trying to figure out why you feel my club wouldn't offer top level training??
  18. not sure what you heard but I have been involved in FS and GR in this state for 5 years and I have never heard of FREE camps, when you come across them let me know, I will send my kids there as well. More importantly we have just as good of camps here in Middle TN with just as good of coaching. Its unfortunate that you haven't done enough investigation of the talent in this area to determine that. You dont build winning organizations overnight and the issue with Middle TN has been the lack of promoting year round wrestling. Chattanooga embraces year round wrestling though various organizations and USA Wrestling being one of those for the older kids. If more schools and parents worked with local clubs like mine then we can change what the duals results look like. I for one applaud the Chattanooga area for sticking with the program and inviting and encouraging its wrestlers to do more than show up on November one and wrestle for 2.5 months. So rather than take your kids to an area where the wrestling instruction is the same, support your local clubs that work their tails off with those kids that want to be successful. This year you will see a multitude of wrestlers that come out of the Middle TN area that are FS and GR wrestlers who train locally. I can tell you that you will see more that 30 out of 84 in D1 alone, that is a prediction but I'm sure i will be pretty close..
  19. If they are not involved in a Freestyle and Greco Roman Program (USA Wrestling) then their chanced diminish quickly... 2 statistics you need to be aware of.... 71% of TSSAA State Champions are Freestyle and Greco Wrestlers* 52% of TSSAA Top 6 State Placers are Freestyle and Greco Wrestlers** find a club near you for them to train at. www.tennwrestling.com
  20. trickk

    Infractions

A Blackman wrestler received a flagrant misconduct and was DQ'ed as well as a Mt. Juliet wrestler punched a Houston wrestler and received a Flagrant Misconduct. Due to the ruling, both wrestlers have to miss two weigh ins by rule before they can compete. In both cases, there are no more events on their calendar nor can any be made up (duals) there for both wrestlers will not be competing at regionals and will obviously not make state. Senseless penalties in both cases that cost them shots a medals at state. I cant speak for the Blackman wrestler but the mt. Juliet wrestler was ranked and had a very good shot at a top 3. That one will sting for a while as they reflect on it..
