  1. 90's taking sand bagging lessons from RMC. The EBE graduated young/young/goss and should be returning the heavier part of their lineup with Bible / Kell / Newman. Duncan and Martino have grown into the 130-140 range with several recruits in the lower weights. No reason in the world the blue guys shouldn't be competitive this season.
  2. With all the interest in the mid state match on 12/13, we might be looking past a good one in 10 days - the battle for the Meyer's bar. Soddy came through last year in a close battle riding the upset win of Dustin Stewart. Can Soddy hang onto the bar this year in light of their graduation losses (and Coach Shane)? Remember, Baylor graduated 8 starters themselves. The crack research team says not this year with Baylor winning big. From the word on the mean streets of Chattanooga, here's the lineups (although subject to change since both these teams still utilize the archaic wrestle off system); Bay vs Soddy 103 Watson/Huckaby vs Gardner 112 Manley vs Gamble (down from 125 last season?) 119 Dostor vs Stewart 125 Whitacre vs Hammonds (up from 103?) (bad automobile accident?) 130 Hayes vs Whit 135 Stavrum vs Ford 140 Shufford vs Fuller (best matchup) 145 Hayes vs Lane 152 Pop vs McCrosky 160 Idlette vs Lewis 171 Shufford / Helton vs ???? 189 Green vs Young (he may have quit?) 215 Scott vs Zimmerman 285 Watson vs Richard
  3. I'm around porkchop, just doing a bunch of traveling these days. I was hoping you had grown a little more. Take it easy on the CrawlenVol at Knox Catholic. Hope you have a great season.
  4. Seinfield quote from one of their funnier episodes. Allsaints is correct, its a real shame the TSSAA is going to deprive all the D1 folks the opportunity to see the majority of the top wrestlers in the state as supported by Bayou Bear's post documenting TN boys at the next level. Maybe a good cat fight will make up for it?
  5. Mike Bell (Baylor) wrestling 149 for Duke placed 4th at the Citadel Open.
  6. BearCat - Word is another one of our beloved OLPHers has come into his own as the Owls next 189 pounder - Tyler Toon.
  7. Double elimination has been addressed many times on this forum and it appears the consensus is to add a consolation round on Thursday night would solve the problem. My recollection is Thursday night normally finishes fairly early? I’ve watched the state tourney for over 30 years. I enjoy the wrestling in both divisions and like yourself I’m always missing something in the finals. My suggestion would be to leave all 8 mats out on Saturday morning and then begin the parade of champions at 2:00, wrestling the finals consecutively instead of simultaneously. What is the merit to separating the 2 tournaments? It can’t be for crowd control as the top section of McKinsey Arena is practically vacant. The larger the crowd the more exciting the event is for the wrestlers IMHO. I’m really disappointed in the decision to separate the state duals this year. I’m glad additional teams have been added to the small school division, but surely there is a way and a facility to accommodate everyone. We will miss being at Clarksville as it has become somewhat of a tradition also. As a wrestling fan I watched dual meets in both divisions and would have preferred the finals not be held simultaneously also. Maybe most wrestling supporters are actually only children supporters - they show up to watch their children and have no interest in watching a wrestler who doesn’t share the same last name. My wrestling junkie friends show up for exciting quality wrestling regardless of the school or wrestler’s name. Again, maybe we are a small minority.
  8. IMHO at least 5 and possibly all 9. This season is no different then other recent years as the cream of both divisions are very close but it drops off much more rapidly after that in D2 than D1. Manley defeated both D1 finalist this season. Whitaker would be there IMHO Johnson absolutely Pop has only lost 2 times this year up at 145 and is wrestling well right now. Bell defeated Winesburg 2 times this year so he certainly would have a good shot Dostor beat Toney both times this year While 160 is maybe the toughest weight class this year, I'd like Waddell's chances against both Wright and Creagan. '71 is pretty wide open after Young, so Dostor stands a chance. Still is a small heavy, but he's been a gamer for 2 years now.
  9. Which one as I dine in that area regularly and would like to support his business as he has always seemed like a nice fellow when our wrestling paths crossed?
  10. Baylor puts 9 into the finals...is this the record for D2? With this number, I can't imagine how they have not locked up another team state championship.
  11. drmedulla - Uncle Ronnie regularly interprets contrary to the written rules so possibly he may decide that parents/fans cannot film from the seats in the future and support your position, but until then why would it be wrong?
  12. Chatt - read the original post as I along with Bayou Bear both mistakenly told BCB that is was against the rules.
  13. Bear Cat - I owe you an apology. The Cat did consult with me last week on this matter and I told him it was my understanding that you could only film your own team based on past experiences when I was officating and occationally a coach would challange another team on the matter. I was never really clear on the matter as in the NHS rule book in Rule 10 Section 1 Article 2 states "Videotaping or filming is authorized unless prohibited by the state high school association." After hearing of the Saturday "incident" I did a little more research and found the before mentioned bylaw on the TSSAA web page. To my surprise, it clearly dispelled my misconception which is obviously shared by many. Cat - as a peace loving individual I do wish you had followed my advise and took the documentation to share with those who would undoubtedly challenge your right to film. I'm glad this was resolved without the Cat having to roar.
  14. Why do you folks think that he's indebted to the wrestling community in some way? Maybe if he had pulled a chain out of his tights during a Soddy dual match he would suffer some form of wrestling sanction. Unless he committed a crime against you or your family, I can't imagine why anyone would feel inclined to comment about the situation. It has nothing to do with wrestling (this is a wrestling message board) and is none of your business and I don't live in Bradley Co. I saw one of the ND wrestlers back talk a team mom, how many matches should we demand he have to sit out?
  15. I already return the favor as Rusty and I go way back so I've been rooting for you guys for several years.
  16. Again, you jerks come on over our way...glad to have the support.
  17. Cretinfromthesticks - If the good folks at ND or Seymour don't want you cheering for their young men, we'll be happy to have your support on the Red team. I'll have to check the parent's manual, but I don't think one has to pass a wrestling technique test to cheer. If that was required, most wrestling gyms would sound like a tennis match. Certainly no one on our side knows anything, just ask the evil Blue empire folks. Wait a minute, didn't they just come in 4th? Anyway, anything you want to yell that comes to mind is fine excluding profanities of course. And from experience, don't call the refs by name, they don't like that. Heck, most of our wives tell us to shut up so you should feel right at home. I think the Bear nation would take you too as they are now short one after Clarksville.
  18. Possibly with an early morning tobacco fix?
  19. Ward Gossett did. JakesDad (aka Mr. Subliminal) would say its his blue leanings showing through.
  20. How about this clue; "Hey, Hey, Hey, its fat ______.
  21. Wait one minute Bayou. Got nothin but love for ya, but I gots to keep you straight as you recently leaked out on this board the true reason for the red and blue drought was to leaverage the public's desire for the matches to the point where you can remove obnoxious posters from our happy forum in exchange for a dual. Always thinking ahead...I bet you were an eagle scout.
  22. justwrestle05 - C'mon now, Clarksville is almost a suburb of Nashville. There is no solution for folks that are deterred by that short of a drive.
  23. cbg - Does anyone have access to the balance sheet of the tourney as its hard to comprehend the expense side of the equation being reduced proportionatly to the number of participating teams. TSSAA gets the gate which if Momma and Daddy only show up is $32 per wrestler with 14 on a team is $458. 28 teams this year means a $12,776 gate which should be conservative since most teams bring more then 14 and lots of folks attend who don't have a son participating. 12 officials = $2400 plus $600 for a room on Friday. Police and custodians = $800. Awards = $500 totaling $4300 expense. Who are they buying rooms for besides officials? Still have over $8400 unaccounted for plus any profits from merchandise sales so there must be a ton of hidden costs somewhere.
  24. There have been numerous posters to this board who in their estimation thought the younger Simpson was ahead of the oldest Simpson at this point - quite the compliment. Obviously he has access to a wealth of coaching from his father and 4 older bros. I find it more a shocker anyone would think he would not be wrestling really well at this point. I doubt he would beat Baucke 10 out of 10 times and he has proven he would not lose 10 out of 10. Should be the most interesting 103 tourney in recent memory considering the rest of the field.
