  1. Murphy does not wrestle six next year. Especially with Dendy in the wings.
  2. I don't know about that. He gave several specific cheers and jeers. Some of which, he is absolutely right on the money about. If west TN continues to develop better wrestling programs and tournaments, TN wrestling as a whole will be better for it. Nobody is asking you to jump on this bandwagon. But, you don't have to turn it over either. I hope your attempts to further TN wrestling on other threads in this forum is fruitful.
  3. Um....what??? Nevermind...looks like the McCallie wrestlers were added in after your post.
  4. The Olympic Hymn performed for the first time for the ceremony of opening of the first edition at the 1896 Summer Olympics in Athens, Greece has "wrestling" in it. The anthem was declared the official Olympic Anthem by the IOC in 1958 at the 55th session of the IOC in Tokyo, Japan. Since 1960, it has been used at the opening ceremonies of each Olympic Games. See below. O Ancient immortal Spirit, pure father Of beauty, of greatness and of truth, Descend, reveal yourself and flash like lightning here, within the glory of your own earth and sky. At running and at wrestling and at throwing, Shine in the momentum of noble contests, And crown with the unfading branch And make the body worthy and ironlike. (twice) Plains, mountains and seas glow with you Like a white-and-purple great temple, And hurries at the temple here, your pilgrim, (twice) O Ancient immortal Spirit, every nation. (twice)
  5. I predict that Cleveland does not win a D-II State Championship. Back to our regularly scheduled programming, "D-II State Predictions".
  6. You have called me out on two threads, so I feel a response is necessary. I've actually had the advantage of reviewing the film. It only affirms my opinion. That's just me "getting real." I went back and watched the film specifically to verify your assertion that you "saw" the referee check with the assistant to confirm the illegal call. As it turns out, you could not be more incorrect! The referee stopped the action, awarded the point, called the injury time and walked straight over to the table until he returned to raise the Baylor wrestler's hand. Never once even looked at the other referee until after the hand was raised. Your statement is a complete fabrication!
  7. "Holy misquotation Batman". You took (2) different statements and put them together to create an idea that was not implied, nor intended. The first comment was directed at the referee's call, the second had to do with coaches. The poor call in my opinion, was poor because it was simply wrong. Potentially dangerous...agreed. I do not agree in any way, shape or form that the penalty point was warranted, especially after reviewing the film. This has already been debated by those who have seen the film and referenced the rule book. No need for me to be elaborate. My statement about the poor call had absolutely nothing to do with the 10-12 point swing observation, as you made it appear. The Baylor wrestler was getting majored in the final period, and clearly wanted to continue, until the coaches got involved. Therefore, it was a 10 point swing, with (4) matches remaining. My take..."coaches taking advantage of the situation as a strategy to win a State Dual Semifinal." Again, much respect to the Baylor 120 for wanting to continue. The replay clearly shows that immediately following the call, the wrestler got up, moved towards the referee's position and even waived off his coach, indicating he was ok. I guess the million dollar question is, would the wrestler have continued if the call was correctly made as, "potentially dangerous"?
  8. Let me guess...you're a baylor fan. Unlike most posters on this forum, ghouse actually does his research, and backs up his assertions with reason, logic and fact. Unlike most on this forum. And while you accuse him of having...what was the word you used...oh yeah, the "audacity" of attacking the integrity of a few adults...you then launch an assault on the integrity of a high school kid? Very impressive. And while you accuse him of stating personal opinion, you relay a complete falsehood. At no time has CBHS had anyone "kicked out" of a match this season, let alone recently. C'mon man...if you're going to cast a few stones of your own, you better bring your "A" game. What you've just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
  9. Haha! Yeah, that one is definitely a classic, and seemed so appropriate for this thread.
  10. For your information, Baker caught up with Coach Simpson later and shook his hand. Confirm with the legend if verification is necessary. Truth is, if FR wins, we're not even having this whole "shaking hands" conversation. Time to stop trying to villainize these two great wrestlers and decent kids. "If you wanna come after someone, come after me...I'm a man, I'm 40!!!"
  11. If you're talking about Baker and Oliver of CBHS, that is completely untrue. Even if it was, which it's not...where the heck were the coaches that they couldn't get there to shake a hand? If they made an effort, and the coach was unable to make the appointment for the official "shake"' well that would then be on the coach, therefore clearing the wrestlers of any wrong doing. SERIOUSLY???
  12. I, like many...have been traveling to matches and tournaments all over the country for several years. TN refs are inferior to most referees that I've seen. They just are. I believe they can get better, but they've got to lose the attitude and let it be about the wrestling. Try not to be the difference. Sometimes you're forced into making a call with a huge impact. Just don't go looking for it...try to go unseen. Every TN tournament I go to, I get the sense that most of the referee's feel a need to take control of the action and be the focal point of the match. TN refs are like an over-bearing girlfriend. They try too hard, and the harder they try...it just makes it worse.
  13. The whole shaking hands thing is over done in my opinion anyway. You shake hands with your opponent at the beginning of your match. You shake hands when it's done, and you go to the coach and shake his hand. Then you line up and shake hands with the team and coaches at the end. Basically, you will shake your opponents hand at least three times and the coaches hands twice in one dual. That's a lot of hand shaking. Honestly, I don't have a problem with Baker not shaking hands. You side step him, and he side stepped you. Oliver being in the final match, why would you want him to go shake the coaches hand, then get in line with his team to shake the coach's hand again? Ironically, Oliver normally will offer a hand shake to the referee at the beginning of a match, and I believe it was the Baylor Semi's, the referee declined and would not shake his hand. Just my opinion...I can do without all of the shaking. At the end of the day both teams handled themselves with class and should be congratulated on a successful State Dual performance.
  14. Yes I do. That wrestler was not showing an attitude of unsportsmanship. You know it, I know it...and the Baylor coaches knew it! Therefore, accepting an undeserved, ill-gotten win due to a horrible, unjust technicality. Imagine for a moment, how much respect Baylor would be getting on this board if they stood up and made it right at the time? This forum would be blowing up with mad props, and I'd be leading the way! But, I wasn't even referring to that one. I'm talking about the Baylor coaches taking advantage of an extremely poor call in the CBHS/Baylor 120 match in the semi's. It appeared that even though the Baylor wrestler snapped up his headgear and headed back out to finish the match following an extremely questionable point deduction for a phantom illegal move against the CBHS wrestler, who by the way, was up by 10 points in the 3rd period. The Baylor coaches called their wrestler back, after which the wrestler then unsapped his headgear and returned to the middle of the mat to accept a win from an injury sustained, that all of a sudden would not allow him to finish? It ended up being at least a 10, but in all probability a 12 point swing. Much respect to Baylor's Powell for wanting to finish the match by the way! It seemed there were too many highly questionable calls the entire weekend, that potentially had far too much impact on the outcomes. And the Baylor coaches were there to take advantage of every one they could. I truly believe that to them, it's simply strategy..."a win at all cost mentality." That's fine...just don't be surprised at the criticism later.
  15. It would appear to me that Baker wanted that match as well, and was a little frustrated it didn't happen.
  16. Daisy May, BEST POST EVER!!! Nothing hypothetical about winning it on the mat.
  17. Sorry, you're correct...CBHS Palmore Dec. over Cleveland Gaither. CBHS 7-1 over Cleveland head to head match ups at the GP West/Bruin Inv. Was Cleveland not full strength three weeks ago? Full strength CBHS? Are you kidding me??? What match did you watch? After CBHS pins at 106 and 113 over Blansit and Debein, CBHS Santi FF's due to earlier injury at 120, no match wrestled (Santi over Stevison later at the Bruin 9-5). 126 and 285 are third string JV, and CBHS 220 did not wrestle. And if that's not enough...If you'll go back and check, every CBHS wrestler from 132-220 were wrestling a weight class up. Ultimately...depleted CBHS beats a depleted CHS. I guess that takes that excuse away. I knew I'd hear the old missing guys at the Duals excuse. But, what about the Bruin??? Cleveland had their chance twice, and came up short. Wrestling is a sport of attrition. No excuses. The Bro's have only been at full strength at one tournament all season in Granite City, IL, and set a point total record at the 52 year old tournament beating nationally ranked Neosho, MO and now nationally ranked Archer, GA. CBHS was not even full strength this weekend. But, the difference is...when you win, excuses are not necessary. Just like Cleveland not accepting any excuses about a depleted Soddy team not being available at the State Duals to challenge them. Agreed!
  18. CBHS has already beaten Cleveland twice this season. The first at the Clev. Duals. The last time against a full strength Cleveland at the Bruin Inv. just 3 weeks ago, and did it with two starters out and one injured during the tournament. Below we're the head to head match ups during the tournament. 113 Oliver pin debien 6-0 120 santi dec Stevison 9-0 126 gray dec Oliver 12-0 138 taylor dec wittman 12-3 145 parish pin Oliver 18-3 170 walthall tech vonpotts 23-3 195 mcolgan dec stukanov 26-3 220 palmore dec filbey 29-3 CBHS won the tournament and dominated the head to head.
  19. I wish I could say that was the only classless move the Baylor coaches made this weekend.
  20. By the way...much respect to the Baylor 120 who wanted to continue the match. Not so much for the coaches who stopped him and took the cheap forfeit.
  21. I don't know. I was sure glad to see the ref that called the cbhs/baylor 120 rotate out after that fiasco. What a joke!
  22. First, I am genuinely saying, "Welcome! Thank you for making the trip. We're glad to have you." But, this is funny. Traveled all the way to Memphis? Big deal! Memphis has been traveling "all the way" to everywhere for the past decade. Welcome to the club! Our wrestlers and parents have to drive at least (3) hours to get to a decent tournament. It's the norm. We've been doing it every weekend for years, don't have to worry about twisting anyone's arm, and it's paying off big! Let me preface this post by saying, I'm not complaining about how tournaments are run, and I'm not onboard with the thought that began this thread. However, you will see a common theme among many of my posts. Respect the West! I believe that the West has sacrificed and worked very hard to improve and advance wrestling in their area, while most of the state pretty much went about their business and ignored them. Then, in my opinion, generally disrespected and looked down on any progress or success that obviously followed. It's been my experience in the last 7 years of being involved in TN youth wrestling, that the rest of the state, instead of fostering this growth, has at best tolerated it. I understand that we're geographically challenged. But, the sport of wrestling teaches that there are no excuses. So why has the AAU continually used this as one??? We haven't! In the past, it was always a "get on board with what we're doing" mentaility..."sorry that you're so far out there in no-man's land." With that said, it appears that this is finally beginning to change. Which is evident by people having to drive "all the way" to Memphis. It's just too bad that AAU reached out after the fact, and now can't take any credit for the progress in the West. Again, my posts have a common theme. Respect. Hey everyone, at the end of the day, we're on the same team TN. Don't be threatened by the success in the West, embrace it!
  23. Ah...I get it. My bad. I'm sorry about that. I didn't pick up that the system has obviously been revamped this year. Which is a good thing, and was necessary. In the past, there were many Top 100 tournaments throughout the season, and they were all listed on the tnyouthwrestling.com/schedule. I looked at it assuming it was like it used to be and that most all of them were considered Top 100. Well, let me back up and punt. Great job in realizing that the Top 100 needed to be changed, and going ahead and changing it. With that said...I was wrong...keep up the good work!
