  1. This scrimmage looked very good against a pretty solid Sweetwater team. The senior leadership showed up and the effort was great. A few breakdowns which are to be expected, but a ton of progress was made during the off season. Big A Tiger. Don't know who you are close to on that staff, but either you or he is lying. Either way I know what I saw Friday was a much improved team. Future is bright in Wartburg.
  2. Oh my,pass the aloe. Really ? that is all you have professor?
  3. You know, it really is a shame your bunch doesn't have any class to go with all that tradition you all talk about. Getting a little tired of has beens or never was types getting on here and talking junk about a game they have little or no information about. Wartburg has played and beaten some pretty good teams to get to this point. This district, region and section has represented well to this point and we have made it to the big dance. Getting a little tired I hearing how good your bunch is and how we don't stand a chance. Win or lose, may the best team advance. But like it or not, the BULLDOGS are in the house and you will have to go some to beat them. When it is all said and done, The talking on here won't add a point to the final score.
  4. Have not seen Perry County but know the Wartburg Program well. The thing that I like about this team over the last State Tournament team is the depth they have and the variety of things they can do well. While they like to play up tempo and push the ball and press all over the floor, they can also get into a half court game as well. Great balance between the outside and inside game with 9 to 10 players who will play. Hampton was trying to sub alot in the substate game to keep up. Perry county better be able to run for 30+ minutes and be able handle pressure all over the floor. Sure they are good, as are the Bulldogs. Teams don't get here who are not, but Wartburg has the depth and firepower to make any team have to take them seriously.
  5. We all know more than you think there Joe. I do have more than a clue. TL brought Coach Brewster to Oneida. TL left for greener pastures at AC knowing that the 13-1 team will struggle the next few years. Brewster took the HC job, TL decides that he can't win at AC, wants to come back, has a job as asst coach, Brewster takes his lumps with a young team, TL leaves in a snit for Scott High. Brewster's young team starts to grow up, TL can't produce at Scott High so he wants to go back to Oneida. Daddy in law gets involved and Brewster is fired and TL is hired. Did I leave anything out? Which part do I have wrong? Is this part of the PCC TL talks of???
  6. Was there ever any doubt? So much for a nation wide search. Didn't even have to leave the county. Can someone pull the knives out of Coach Brewster's back now? How can TL talk about PCC? I guess the Oneida faithful got what they wanted. darn shame a coach takes his team to the quarter finals and gets done in by the politics to let TL back in. Hope Tony gets an assistant as loyal as he has been. No PCC in this deal.
  7. Well, if it is true, and from what I hear it will happen, TL's PCC must stand for Politics, Cutthroat, and Calculating. Sure can't be Pride Class and Character the way this thing is going down.
  8. Let's not forget that Coach Brewster stepped up when TL decided the grass was greener in Anderson County. Took the tribe to the quarterfinals of the playoffs this year all while the team struggled to overcome some key injuries. Folks, this change was brought about by back room dealing and that stinks. The way that this was handled stinks and if TL was a part of the dealings, well that tells me all I need to know about his PCC. Remember, he walked out on Oneida. Black eye on the program IMHO.
  9. Well, I was at the game and saw two things that really put Sunbright on their heels. One, there was weather that hurt the throwing game. Two, Wartburg played man coverage most of the night and that tight coverage prevented most of the big plays. On the contrary Wartburg holding an offensive team like Sunbright to 6 points is a great defensive effort. Sunbright came into the game averaging over 32 points per game. Holdng them 28 points under their average is a big accomplishment. Don't kid yourself, the drops were usually with tight man coverage and a Wartburg defender hitting the receiver or at least swatting at the ball. Slowing the game down and draining the clock never let the offense get into a proper rythem. Coach Ellison had a great plan and executed it well.
  10. We never compared him to Manning, he runs better than that!!!! Seriously, Haven't heard of any signings for any of the Dawgs.
  11. Thanks Pujo, An honest assessment. I have seen a roster and talked with a couple of folks who have said they are very big up front and very disciplined. We will obviously have our hands full, but every game in the playoffs is like that. . On another note, I wish to commend you on your balanced views and astute observations. One of the true Coach T heros and one I always try to read.
  12. Well yes, I do disagree about the Wartburg Spread being simply average. When I offer you stats to support my point about it being above average, you offer up NOTHING to support your position other than an asinine remark about left handed monkeys. Perhaps you know more about monkeys than the spread, but if that is your opinion so be it. Now there is a difference between a down team and a cupcake. Even you should see that. Cupcakes are non district games played at great distance to secure a win. Two of your examples are district games, the other two are drives of less than an hour and both beat Wartburg last year. Now lets talk about where this team has come from in the last few years. 4 years ago this team had its coach resign after 1 season and going 0-10 and moving back to Florida. The new staff came in and took over a team that was in a 32 game losing streak. The 1st year they won 1 game. The 2nd year, 4 games and this year have won 9. Now that 1st year, they were barley able to survive playing in region 2 AA with Alcoa, Sweetwater, Loudon and CAK. The 2nd year schedule was better in Distict 4A. This year they have been able to build on those improvements. Yes Wartburg has been playing football since 1946, but this current team has been on a rebuilding plan since 2008. Rome wasn't built in a day, neither was Boyd Buchanan, South Pittsburgh, or any other solid program. Considering where they were as Freshman, this group of seniors can take pride in what they have accomplished. Win or lose Friday night, they have brought this program back from the edge and made it respectable again. And while your caring is not relevant, supporting our team is something we in Wartburg do care about.
  13. Well, Well, Well, didn't realize Hal Mumme was on here. So since you are the expert of the spread and you have all the inside scoop on the Wartburg Spread in particular, you tell me and the rest of the Coach T world which it is?? Your left handed well trained monkey could tell you that throwing for 200 a game isnt quite as easy when you are also rushing for 160 a game as well. But then again, you probably know all that since you are on here sharing your insight. The offense is averaging right at 346 yards a game and the defense is allowing around 127 yards per game. Now the schedule is what it is, but I promise you there are no cupcakes on it. These kids have made great strides. Now for the Boyd Buchanan faithful, I for one think this will be a closer game than many on here have said. Will probably come down to a hand full of plays where one side or the other will make a play. That being said, the Bulldogs will have their hands full but I will hold off on a prediction until I get by practice on Thursday. If the Dogs come out as focused and prepared as they did against Oliver Springs, they will be in good shape.
  14. Well observations are kinda like opinions and you know what they say about those. I would hardly call Oliver Springs way down. Ask anyone from Rockwood about that. Oneida is down somewhat but not the push over you indicate. Your assessment of players is a little off too. Let me share some stats through 10 games with you. (source http://stats.prepxtra.com/football/boys/leaderboard/individual/ ) Quarterback G comp att yds avg TD INT (Wartburg) 10 150 247 1829 12.19 22 5 Those are numbers a lot of teams would like to get from a QB add to that 477 yds rushing and 5 more TDs. The receiver g rec yds avg lng td (Wartburg) 10 72 1070 14.86 62 16 The offense is averaging 34 points a game and allowing 14 on defense through 10 games. Now while you may think football at Wartburg is not very competitive, this year is a great year. You don't build Rome in a day. I think that they manage the spread well enough to be 9-2 and hosting a 3rd round game. Don't try to underestimate or deminish the capabilities of this team. They can score points!!!! Just Saying!
  15. Very Few I suspect. And you know, this is the problem with Grace Christian and their punishment. Frank is a great player, but will probably not get the proper recognition because of Graces's past bad deeds. That is why no one should condone cheating. Not only avoid evil, but the appearance of evil. Sad to say that some folks over there still don't understand that what was done was wrong, condone what was done and only regret getting caught. Way to offer up that Christian witness and example for others.
