  1. No I went to a program where the head coach wanted to handle more of it, but you are right I do take a heavy interest in my players' futures.
  2. I am an assistant coach and up until this year I handled all of the recruiting for our kids. Our head coach would just talk to the college coaches and let me know what they said and I handled the rest. I did the highlight tapes, took them to camps, called coaches, checked grades and made sure they understood what level they could play on. We had some coaches that were telling them they could play at Georgia and Florida when the kids could barely play at Lambuth so the best bet is to be honest with them. I know sometimes it is to much for the head coaches to do so I also recommend what we did delegate some of the stuff out to your assistant coaches and let them help to get their position players in school they should want to anyway since they spend the most time with them. Just a thought.
  3. He coached me at Munford and I know he was the head coach at Kirby and Adamsville. Don't know if he was there or not.
  4. They ought to call Dee Alsbrook. He is one of the best offensive coordinators in Memphis. SInce his arrival at Cordova they have been pretty solid offensively. I think they were 9-3 this past season.
  5. The new head coach is Mike David. He is from the Bishop's School in San Diego, has a pretty impressive resume. Has won several region titles and sectional titles. Also has turned around every program he is been at so we will see how things go.
  6. I kinda sort of agree. I do not think your post is stupid, but Ole Dad is right coaches have to look out for their families. However we are in the business where feelings are gonna get hurt and yes there isn't much loyalty there anymore. I was in a coaching situation a year or two ago that wasn't the most ideal position, but I pulled 4 yrs out of the deal just for the love of the kids and even then didnt want to leave. The difference is my wife loved the kids as well. I feel for the players whose coaches jump ship after one year or the kids who have had 4 different coaches in 4 yrs. Just plain crazy!! On the other hand I could see if you were a new head coach starting out and were successful and then a bigger school with more money to throw around wanted you and you listened. I just don't agree with coaches jumping from job to job, but to each his own.
  7. Don't know if you can get Bobby Alston, I think he makes a killing at MUS. I think John Reid the coach at East Paulding High in Georgia would be good. He won 2 state titles at Alcoa before Rankin took the job.
  8. Bring him on down I am sure they would love to have him.
  9. Not taken the wrong way. That is why I think Coach Jordan should take the job. He knows what it would take to try and get the job done having been on staff there the last 3 yrs. I think he has the optimism as well. Also there have been many programs that have been down and the right guy come in and turn it around. There are some athletes at St. Benedict to be competitive. If someone can come in there and start winning then some of the athletes that have been going other places will come over.
  10. I agree with all those points. The facilities are not as good as everyone else's and they won't let anybody recruit over there. It would still be tough going D1 but maybe could have more success, but they won't because their girl sports are so good and it is 75% all girls. They need to hire a young hire energy guy that will try and get it turned around. I think Coach Jordan should probably get it because he fits that and has a good relationship with the kids at the high school and middle. The middle school has been successful but the kids end up going to Christian Brothers. Anyway I wish them the best since I am no longer there.
  11. Oh ok I was just wondering. No I am definitely not one of those guys because I knew at the time I was not as good as Dernice. I have coached kids like that who hate their coaches because they feel they should get more playing time. There were just some things that had happened that he did not handle very well. So I guess I should thank him because it taught me to not do some of the same things he did when I have to deal with the same issues.
  12. Actually to be honest with you I did not play until my senior year and then I was the backup free safety to Dernice Wherry. My playing time has nothing to do with anything. Yeah I did not play much but I have become a pretty decent high school football coach. Everybody has their own opinion and I think I am entitled to the fact that I just do not like Darry Marshall very much. I don't hate the man just not a big fan. There were other things that occurred during that time that led me to not like him very much even then when I played. Was that a good response tater or was I suppose to get angry or something? You obviously like the guy, good for you. Your opinion and no one is bashing you for it.
  13. I wouldn't go so far as to say Randall wasn't the answer because he did turn the program around. Now there may have been some things he did that were unorthodox or something but saying he was'nt the answer don't know about that. I think he ruffled to many feathers outside of the Munford program by not wanting the play in the M and M bowl anymore. I hope Marshall does hire someone good because anybody wants to see there alma mater successful. However they could go out and hire Urban Meyer and my opinion of Darry Marshall would never change.
  14. No, but I think they have narrowed it down from over 30 applicants. They are conducting interviews now. I know that Coach Jordan and a coach from Mobile, AL have interviewed.
  15. Trey Wilkins from St. Benedict should be on there. He had 38 receptions 757 yds and 8 tds.
  16. I played for Marshall and he was this way back then.
  17. This past year when I was at St. Benedict in Memphis, I thought we had the best secondary coach I had ever seen. He played for Bear Bryant and learned from one of the best college secondary coaches supposedly. Coach Prudhomme was a dang good one.
  18. No Thanks necessary but I do appreciate it. I am just doing what I believe GOD has led me to do. Yeah these kids just need the opportunity to do something with their lives and not be stats and I believe high school sports is that avenue.
  19. I agree I played on the same team as Jason and I did'nt think he was arrogant but I guess everyone has their own opinion. Shoot Jason and I dated the same girl and I still think he is a pretty good guy.
  20. I coach at a private school now but I spent 5 yrs in the city with two different schools. In 5 yrs I got paid 75 dollars. Most clinics I know of you pay 100 bucks and the whole staff goes. I just may be an exception to the rule because I love football that much but I did it for free. The whole reason I coach is to set an example for the youth of today and get these kids into school. The article in today's Commercial Appeal about recruiting is great. That is what it is all about. I know that there is not much money, most city schools do not even have a booster club. So there is another disadvantage that the city has. These middle and east Tenn teams have tons of money for camps and equipment. Some of the schools in middle Tenn have indoor facilties. No way city schools can compete with that. I was pulling for Mitchell high school because when teams like that get there people in the other parts of the state have no idea the hurdles that have to be jumped. Congrats Mitchell Tigers on representing the city of Memphis!!
  21. I think it all boils down to committment, committment from coaches, players, fans, parents and administration. I think there are a lot of schools in West Tenn that have it but I question the ones in the city of Memphis. Coaches who think they know everything and dont have to get better and try and learn new things, players who would rather just coast by without putting in the extra work to be successful, fans who would rather do other things than come to the games (have you ever been to most of the city school games, it is pitiful the lack of support), parents who some do not even know their kids play football and of course do not come to the games (not even for senior night), and administration who would rather hire their buddy off the street who knows nothing about football or who would rather take the booster club money and use it for the basketball teams (most principals don't think football is a high priority). I agree with your points except for the pay is pretty good.
  22. I am curious to know the opinion of Marshall and Randall up there? Does everyone like Marshall and how good a job did people think Randall was doing? What is the problem up there? I still think it is a good job but I am a little biased.
  23. Yeah but my thing is sometimes you have to jump in with both feet and learn on the run. I have also heard head coaches say that you are really never ready. I have never seen him coach but whenever I would get around the Munford staff they would rave about him so I just figured he was doing good. You must have coached with him?
  24. No Jason Johnson is a hometown guy. He was the quarterback on the 97 state runner up team. He was one of just two or three that did not come with Randall.
  25. The job is posted on the tssaa website.
