  1. This was a high school game. So TSSAA may have a different law implied.
  2. Here is a classic. Player gets a yellow early in the game for a late tackle. Late in the 2nd half, commits another one, but no card is shown. Play resumes. Ball goes out of touch, and coach subs the player. Just to make sure he doesn't get another. After the match, and players have left field, the ref comes over to the player and says, I forgot to give you this. Shows a yellow, then a red. Is this right?
  3. As always, this is a sticky situation. Sometimes there is a team, who doesn't want to be there. We ran into that last week. It was 8-0 in 22 minutes. So........what is fair? Play with your club in the spring, train all summer, work on shooting from 30 yards out, and then get set on the bench because you get 3 goals in the first 5 minutes of the game? Tell your players not to score goals? Isn't that the object of the game that we all love? Then, get dirty looks when you play keep away? Or complete that 10th pass so you can shoot? But only from outside the 18? I actually told the ref that if the ball didn't come off a head, or a volly, to blow offside or something. He laughed, and said he would think about it. So, what did I do? I let them play. It's not our fault. My girls have been stomped into the grass many times before. They know how it is. But they did their best. Which is what I ask for. There will always be "that game" that everyone gets down on the team and the coach about. It is like Death and Taxes. I have 27 girls. My starters spent most of the time on the bench that day. I felt sick about it. They deserved to play. Sometimes it isn't even good practice to have a game like that. I was longing for a practice field so I could let my 16 girls that were being benched go and play 8v8 or something.
  4. As most of you have, or maybe haven't, been on the bad end of a lopsided score, I have given up on this topic. I want my girls to score as many goals as they can. It is not fair to good teams or players to hold back. In the past, 2 teams who are now D2 schools, have given us 13-0 stompings in back to back seasons. We have been on the top of a couple 8+ to 0 games as well. I had so many requirements for them to meet before taking a shot, it was crazy. The other team ended up scoring own goals. Or just letting balls go in that could have easily been stopped. This topic will be here till the end of time. Nothing will ever change it. People will be for and against it. Why can't we just squash it and go on the the next good thing. It is like the Gulf War, or the oil spill. It happened, you think it is over, but it keeps creeping back into conversation.
  5. I wouldn't mind that at all. Black is all you need. I get tired of my players showing up with the latest color scheme. When I was playing HS ball in the 80's, if you showed up with pink cleats, you would have been eating dirt pretty darn fast.
  6. I think that is why they opted to have us all complete this year online. Unless any of you actually went to a meeting. You can "READ" into all the reasoning you want. What you really have to do is look at the pictures on the actual rules meeting site. All the amendments and situations go right out the window when you see the pictures. You can say what you want, the pictures show solid white, no trim color of any kind.
  7. Not in the least bit! And I quote "4-1-1b: Beginning with the 2012 fall season, the home team shall wear solid white jerseys and solid white socks, and the visiting team shall wear dark jerseys and socks. Prior to and during the game, jerseys shall be tucked into the shorts, unless manufactured to be worn outside. 4-1-1i1: Beginning with the 2012 fall season, all jerseys, shall be numbered on the back with a different Arabic number at least 6 inches in height and on the front (jersey or shorts) with the same number which shall be at least 4 inches in height. Numbers shall be of contrasting color to the jersey (or shorts) and clearly visible. 4-1-1i2: Only those names, patches, emblems, logos or insignias referencing the school are permitted on the team uniform, except as in 4-1-1 (d), (f) and (g). The player's name may also appear on the team uniform." Now I know this seems like nothing in text, but if you completed the online rules meeting, and saw the pictures, it is C-R-A-Z-Y! They really mean SOLID. I wonder if you can even have a 3 stripe sock? Let alone those really cool Puma or Nike ones? It does say SOLID... I guess I shouldn't be dropping name brands. But while I am at it, Dick's, Hibbitts, and Sports Authority will clean up! I may just send my kids to Dicks and tell them to buy the $9 Umbro short, and a one white Hanes Beefyt shirt, and one red one. We will use my extra large Sharpieand put our logo and numbers on them. Front, and back. Booster club will love that, and then we may be able to afford that bus we have been longing for...........
  8. You are correct, Sir. After the JCS Jamboree tomorrow, I will probably just be getting started.
  9. Anyone else bothered by the rules meeting info this year? I mean come on....are the home jersey's really have to be ALL WHITE? Give me a break. I know of no other sport that has that kind of weight on them. We just got new uni's and planned on keeping them a few years at least. Now this.....I think someone needs to figure out how to get this worked out to our favor. I understand that they don't want some kid wearing his favorite replica jersey in a game, but to force this on us? NFHS needs to leave us alone. They have already taken the laws of the game and amended them to no end. I bet it won't happen to any other sports. Why do they hate us so much? Because we are the worlds most popular sport?
  10. Already this is thread is better than the entire boys season thread catalog from last spring. Gah! What a boring season it was. RUN UP THAT SCORE! SLIDE TACKLE! NO HEADING! REF'S ARE TERRIBLE! TSSAA, well nevermind.... There.......I am done till March.
  11. Wow! Games on a Varsity Football Field! (bowing) We're not worthy! We're not worthy!
  12. We are required to have heat index monitors. I keep it with me at all times. Our football coaches have them, as well as the band director. Our AD is very hard core on sticking to the "104, your indoor" rule.
  13. It will never happen. FIFA is too powerful. Adding any kind of electronic anything to this beautiful game will totally ruin it for the world. And if it trickles down to our screwed up High School ranks, it will be even worse. Why can't we all just play?
  14. Morgan Walls-Freed Hardeman University in Henderson Tn.
  15. Looking for a weekend tournament in West/Middle Tn. We are a young team, looking for some good competitive games. email me coachchambers@hughes.net
  16. I wouldn't go so far as to say this is our profession, and what we get paid to do... This is a passion, and what we love to do. The sup's that most of us get barley cover our cell phone bills or car insurance for a year, let alone a season. I have 24 boys, and getting up by 3 gets my starters a break. But it is hard to not score sometimes. Even with restrictions. Sometimes keepers mis-judge balls. There are tons of own goals. I just say, play with class, and the other team will know it. I have a a physically challenged player who has been with me 3 yrs. Last year we were up 5-0 with Waverly Central, when the other team captain told my captain that they were going to let him score when he came in. That is class. Last girls season, the keeper from the #10 team in our district won keeper of the year. Yeah, I know, there was probably one that deserved it more, but she did have class, and kept putting on those gloves. That is class. We have had many games this year that were pretty wide spreads, but all of us coaches around here are friends. We know that next year, or maybe 2 years from now, it is going to be the other way around. It is just the way it is. I love this game! And I love coaching and teaching it.

  20. You know what is funny? Nobody says anything when a baseball team wins 15-0. Or a football score is 49-0. Sometimes you just have to realize that "goals happen". You can put in the pass rule, or the shots from outside the 18, or has to be on a volly, or header. But....what do you do when one of your defenders clears a ball out from 60 yards, and the keeper just lets it go in. Or, when on a corner, they head it in their own goal? I too was amazed that it took so long for this topic to come up.
  21. Names and dates have been ommitted as to hide the identity of the parties involved. Except mine, of course During a recent match, one of my bench players witnessed one of the opposing bench players wandering around behind our goal. At first glance, it appeared as if he were going to shag, but I had my bench taking care of that, just not letting them linger around back there distracting the keepers. Then, after the next ball went over the touch line, we saw him snatch it up, pull a pump out from behind his back, and start to air it up. Then, he walked casually around the far side, and did the same thing. Then he waited for the one on the field to be knocked out, and finished them all off. Now, I guage my balls before every match. We use Brine NCAA Championship balls. (2 of them require 6-8psi, and the other 11-13. One was made in another country as the other 2) Before the game, the officials checked all three, and said that they were fine. At the half, we expressed our concern, as the balls were now like rocks. I am not sure if they ever said anything to the other coach or not. The next night, at another match, I mentioned it to the two ref's before the game, just to see what their take was on it. They were really not cool with that, and said that it would have been a card offense for sure. I wonder what it would be? Dissent? I didn't let any air out, but I will next time. Just thought I would share, as I have not been participating as much this year. Good luck in the rest of all of your years! MC
  22. You will probably get that same ref the rest of the season, from my experience.
  23. Lexington @ Northside tied 1-1 tonight. JV tied at 2-2.
  24. No prob. I got it via email, my AD and principle got it via email, and fax. I figured it must be important, because it is rare that soccer gets this much attention from our school and it wasn't something we did wrong.
