  1. Surely this is the way it will be. How could they possibly even bring up the word "multiplier". It should not even be in the discussion as far as D2 schools go. That would not be completely fair......so.....It may very well be what they do : ) Thanks for the help.......I guess the question now becomes: Is the D1 enrollment figure used as a basis applied to the actual enrollment of privates considering the jump? Anyone.................
  2. Antwan......If I understand your response correctly, it would be a different number for both? Wouldn't this leave them playing different schools in each sport. I know the z-plan was targeted at playing the same schools in all sports for D1....and I don't know enough about D2 to know if that is even a feasible goal for that class. Indian had mentioned on another thread that he thought the number would be around 500 or so. I took that to mean for all sports?
  3. Didn't see that one yet one of the coaches said he "two handed" his OWN missed free throw Monday.......think about that one for a while!
  4. "screwed" (skrood'). adj. 1) placement of subpar competitors of unequal quantities with those of larger with proclamation of equality. 2) slang. to "boink" 3) Poorly quoted Dylan song.
  5. Sorry.......still lost. There are way too many "A's" involved in all of this. Within the new z-plan projections........in football, there is A/AA/AAA. Within A.....there is 1a/2a, AA there is 3a/4a....etc. My question is....once again, in football is the D1 number they are useng as a basis the "little" "a" or the "big "A"? In basketball, is it the same number they used for football (if it is the little "a") or is the "big "A"? If it is not the "A" number.....then D2 would not play the same schools in both sports...right? For the love of all that is Holy....am I that stupid, or is this confusing? Maybe I'm an idiot......yet this statement......."Also, the board unanimously approved a motion for the Division II classification break between Class A and AA to be the same enrollment figure as it is in Division I".......followed by the continuous us of the letter "a/A", makes this confusing enough for some of the smaller D1 privates to make the wrong decision on making the jump. Based on your response.......stating that SBEC (2006 enrollment of 280+/-) would move up, I assume you are using "a". Someone else on another thread said they thought the number was around 500, which indicates "A". Hope I don't come across as stupid, yet I really have no idea what it is. 26 letters in the alphabet and the TSSAA is stuck on using one of them! I am not the only one. Been at basketball camps all week and have heard people complaining that they went from "AA" to 3a. Try to explain to them that the 3a of 2009/12 is not the same as AAA of today and your head will hurt real quick! Any help....or comments about how stupid I am would be greatly appreciated and accepted.
  6. Well.....that just goes to show you "always watch what you say". I hope noone took offense to any of my comments above! Just making a joke about the coaches box. I could tell she knew the game and was a good coach.....but she was...kinda...coaching from EVERYWHERE. To be honest, I don't remember a lot about Paul.....just the name......and eye-glasses (I think). Actually his name had come up over the years while talking to another guy from up that way that I used to coach the kids with (now that I think about it). Got to watch a lot of ball this week. Any idea if that was Dyersburg's varsity? Schedule said so, yet it was really hard to tell all week, not knowing any of the teams. P.S. If you graduated with Paul.....who I think was a year ahead of me (maybe wrong).....that would make you a year older than me............PLEASE CHANGE YOUR SCREEN NAME! : )
  7. If I remember correctly.......I played with Paul @ Jackson State in early '80's. I'm old, so it's a little fuzzy. I may have it all confused.....but I think I remember him pitching...maybe from Union City? Every once in a while a name comes up and I know I know them somehow.....yet, well you know what they say....the mind is the first to go!
  8. Probably was.......very vocal....lots of hugs? Used to play ball with a guy named Paul Decker (baseball, early '80's). Think he was from up that way?
  9. I assume it will not be the woman running the show at the Union Camp yesterday? Schedule said it was a Varsity game, yet I do not know enough about them to know. Looked really young. I hope I am not offending anyone's wife or mother here....and I know it is just camp, yet the coach's box is not the black line around the entire gym floor : )
  10. Great analogy...........and just as most of the situations you mentioned above......... THIS WILL ALL END BADLY. Instead of both sides being rational and working through there differences, IMO this has become so deliberate and biased that there is no way to kiss and make up. End the end.... everyone will lose and believe me......most of the publics that are for a split, are only looking at the privates they can't beat.....not the ones they schedule to pad their win column! Won't know what you've got........till it's gone. Let's just hope noone mentions the "s" word......three letters.......not four. I have always been for a split. Travel costs don't mean that much to me because we are broke as it is just trying to send our kid to private school. Would help alot if they would cut me a tax break and give the money back I have to put in to the public school systems here that they have ........ABSOLUTELY RUINED! I'm thinking now a split is not enough....I don't want the house, the money nor do I want to see the TSSAA every other weekend! P.S. Married for 17 wonderful years.......above comments are NOT from bad personal experiences.
  11. Other than baseball.......I could care less. No offense meant.
  12. Thanks..that's kind of what I came up with as well. Maybe this will push most of the D1 privates to go to D2. We can then address the "financial aid" part of it after that. You know..don't know how familiar you are with this area, yet USJ could not have asked for a worse outcome from the latest TSSAA meeting. It is time they figured out that....sadly.....we are not wanted and need to leave.
  13. Indian......You seem to have a handle on this. With the decision made this week as well to use the same D1 enrollment break between A/AA for D2.....How exactly does that work? On the proposed realignment, they used all schools....not just the football playing schools, right? Any idea what that break number would be? I know you put some stuff out there last night. With what they have posted......privates were multiplied....then there is some number that separates A/AA. Do you then unmultiply (?) yourself to see where you would fall in D2? If I recall....when D2 came about, there was a lot of confuston and fear of playing the big privates. I hope they make it clear this time around. Thanks
  14. Any school can go D2....not just the privates. You are right....not a very good BB district to try to get out of! I thought Liberty just got bumped up to AAA.....If these districts hold true looks like they catch a break (like they needed it!)
  15. I know this is a football thread, yet in the sport that I think you and I are most concerned with...I could not help but sit back and laugh when I saw all the latest developments from this weeks meetings. I mean seriously....for some reason, I wasn't mad or anything.......I just laughed. After complaining about having to play the BB district that we currently do.........could you ever have imagined that this was going to be the outcome? Can't compete with North Side and Haywood.........here you go, try Bolivar and Liberty! Have fun.....4 years from now you have to play in the SEC.....except during playoffs, of course. Although, You nor I seemed to have made our school choices based on atheletics....I feel some do consider that as a factor. I am afraid this will sway some of the newer generations to choose smaller privates, until they become too big...then back to the old.....until.........You see where I'm going? Until the Private powers understand this fact... "They do not want you" and see that every decision in the past or still yet to come will never in any way favor you or your kind.......this is the way it will be. What do you do? P.S. I'm not sure that they are thru cutting staff yet..........they seem to have left the door open for more!
  16. Would all depend on the new decision about using the same enrollment breaks for D2 between A/AA that they use in D1 (and exactly what that means?). Looks like they used ALL schools when determining the proposed Districts.....is that what they have always done in the past or did they just use the schools that play football? Anyone know.....using whatever numbers they are using (?)....what that number is. If this does not push some of the Privates in to D2....I don't know what will? Are there enough D1 privates across the state to have a third class in D2.....those that do not offer aide to atheletes? Regardless of what some believe......we do not do that now, nor do I think we should start...just my opinion.
  17. He will be a Freshman @ USJ next year.........and you may be exactly right about Ripley! That would make sense, because I did not see what I heard some people posting about them........just did not want to comment too loud. Yep........used to play with Snyde years ago! Did not know his real name for years.
  18. Not sure about the rest of you, yet I was completly mistaken on how I thought this plan would pan out. Guess I was thinking that we would play the same teams in football that we currently do in basketball. Did not realize that Districts would be completely redrawn as well....to busy crying about the multiplier. Someone please help me with the following questions: 1) Are all schools used to determine the class breaks in football or just the ones that play football? 2) If it is just the ones that play football, won't the breaks be different when tallied for other sports........therefore moving some up and down leaving some of these "same district" scenario messed up? 3) I assume the propsed Districts for others sports will be changed to match the football.......with no sub-classes? 4) You are mandated to play every team in your District right......there are 10 teams proposed in AA District 14 (3A/4A)? That's 9 of your games right there! New plan does help us with Travel, yet increase medical bills will probably negate the difference! I know I knoced him earlier........yet I am now for the GLOVER PLAN. Don't even remember what it was, but it was not THIS one I assume. Appreciate the help!
  19. From the Jackson Sun updates this afternoon............ "Also, the board unanimously approved a motion for the Division II classification break between Class A and AA to be the same enrollment figure as it is in Division I." What exactly does this mean......the break between A/AA in basketball.....the new A/AA break in football or BOTH, whichever applies? Help me out.........I forsee a mad dash to D2......So trying to understand! Is D2 currently divided differently for basketball and football or is it just split down the middle, playing the same teams in both? Thanks
  20. Once again.......same old comments you heard someone else say with never any real examples of what you are accusing. Like arguing with a fence post! We are a D1 private.....no atheletes on financial aid......not talking D2, but from your tone I would not expect you to know the difference. Not very original, are you?
  21. Unfortunately, I was only able to go the last day and only got see our games and the end of the games right before ours. Saw Mcnairy beat Station Camp (pretty sure), but when I got there, Jenkins was on the bench and only came in during the last few minutes of the game. Talked to Snyde (what I always called him) and he did say they were down this year and rebuilding. I really did not know what to think after spending one day down there. I only saw us play Waterloo (?), Ripley and Corinth.....and wasn't impressed that much with Ripley even though I've seen where they seem to be doing pretty well. They were very atheletic and deep like some have said, though. We beat Waterloo (wherever that is) if that tells you anything.......and couldn't care less about Corinth. Only other game I saw any of was the end of Chester county and Waterloo........which was not pretty. The only input I got was from my kid who used the word "drilled" alot! They are young, not many back. Gonna be a long season. They did stay with Ripley (under 10) for most of the first half, yet then, being the last day I guess, both coaches emptied the benches and our younger guys played most of the rest of the game. This is my first year in a long time really paying attention to high school basketball, so I really hesitate to comment on many of the teams.......I think I was expecting a little more than what I saw, will take me some time to adjust. Did seem like most teams were emptying the bench.......not caring a whole lot about who won or not...which was good, I guess?
  22. Played at USJ middle. We played the Hudson kid over at JCS in some one game tournament or something like that. Like I said though, it was late in the season and word had already gotten around. Put two quick kids in his pants with him and jammed the other three in the lane to keep him driving. Looked kinda pathetic, but what do you do.........it worked. I'm sure we are talking about the same kid.....Spring Hill, I think? Went to the McNairy HS camp last week..wasn't pretty. Only highlight was watching the Jenkins kid play from Station Camp! Looking forward to another long year in AA.
  23. We were talking about "winning" state titles.......or so I thought. I see your point though.......14 out of 30 X 1.8 = 84% or so. I said I was for a split but you all are like my wife........not going to be happy with me just doing what you say, I have to admit that you are right in telling me to do so. Have to go hide now.
  24. What I saw: 2005/6 (Year ending 2006) Basball: 1A - McKenzie 2A-Covington 3A-Farragut Football: 1A-Trousdale 2A-Alcoa 3A-Livingston 4A-Maryville 5A-Ravenwood BoysBB: 1A-Union City 2A-Liberty 3A-Hamilton GirlsBB: 1A-Forrest 2A-Hillcrest 3A-Wilson Central What'd I miss....said it was quick...never claimed to be perfect....seriously, Help me out? Not familiar with Privates at the other end of the state.....Just went by the * on the great TSSAA website. Maybe I'm looking at it wrong? As for you other point........no way of knowing. 2006 numbers would still have them in 1A in both. Just graduated the largest class in History.....I think 109 or so. Freshman class next year is around 90 or so I think. Unless they lied to the parents, there is only room for 100 or so in each class. Shouldn't be much more than that in the future. If not......guess we will be paying for a new building. I think your comment about he multiplier being added to "punish" was right on the money, although if that was true......should it have really been directed at the privates only? Don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings, yet to me there are three sports....baseball, basketball and football. Not saying the others are not important, yet that's my opion. A lot of the comments made usually conveniently include all the others when it comes to championship numbers........maybe I'm wrong, yet a lot of these people could care less about the other sports unless the numbers can be used to make their point. No offese inteneded. One more thing....you were quick to comment back on my numbers, yet at least I tried to come up with some rather than just making the broad "heard someone else say it" statements you filled your last reply with.
