  1. Good luck tonight Falcons! Go into Cherokee and play hard for all 4 quarters and bring that trophy back to Volunteer! Falcons 21 Chiefs 20
  2. We do have the right coach, the man knows football and he is great with the boys. The next couple of years will be great for the Falcons with us having alot of sophomore playing this season, getting them the early experience on varsity will definitely help them grow over the next two years, and of course or running back started the last 5 games of his freshman year and is back for his sophomore campaign. I respect you Waco, you know your football from reading your post on the DB threads. I guess most people don't like your sarcasm, I find it to be very funny.
  3. You are doing just fine Sir. And you know you will continue to stop by the Ken Jo, I do everytime I am up that way, I also make sure to hit up Pal's cause after football season the only time I get it is when I go to Morristown. Of course I am going to say the Falcons are going to win tomorrow night, I know we are going to be underdawgs but oh well. Last week against North I saw the boys come together and play as an entire team. If that team shows up tomorrow night I think we might just shock alot of people and take one from The Hill. Volunteer 24 Science Hill 17
  4. Hey Waco, the Volunteer/Science Hill thread is pretty cold, care to come over and warm it up for us. lol
  5. All I want to say right now is I think we should all support Coach Rider in what he is doing, I don't think anything that is going on right now is his fault. He is a good coach, he is a great person and respects each and every young man that is on the team. Let's rally behind Coach Rider and have high hopes that he will get the program going in the right direction. One question I have is how can we get money for a new weight room? I have seen the inside of the weight room and it was better in 1999 when I graduated from Volunteer then it is now. What happend to all the equipment that was there? I for one think it would be nice to have a new building built, looking over the field. I have talked with rogers4falcons, and we have thought about the buy a brick idea. I know DB has done it, so why can't we? If we can get something like that going, it would give the boys a great place to have a all year long program. If we have 600 Falcon Fans buy a brick for $100 per brick that is $60,000 that we could raise for the new building. I myself would be willing to by more then one that is for sure, I just want us to have the opportunity that everyone else has.
  6. I can say I am so proud of the entire Falcon squad last night, they came together as a team and played an entire game from start to finish. They did what they needed to do to win, but North was able to steal away a win in the last min. Luke played amazing tonight, started out with an INT, but didn't let it phase him as he threw 3 td strikes. RJ Williams turned up his speed on the jet sweep when North was tired in the 4th quarter he had fresh legs and took it 66 yards for the Td. The entire offensive line played excellent tonight, that was so great to see Jordan Lawson did a great job at fullback, I knew if he got in there he had the speed and ability to get out of the backfield quick and block for Devin, another hard fought game for him as well grinding out 89 yards on 21 carries. Amazing TD catch by Joey Lawson, I will see what I can do about getting the catch up so everyone can check it out again, highlight reel material on that catch! I do wish Austin Gray would get more looks it seems every time he is open over the middle, and he is very sure handed. Wish we could have got a "W" against North, but we have a great game to build on for next week and Science Hill coming to Church Hill. Once again proud of our boys for pulling together, lets have another great week of practice.
  7. You mean like the Rogers band wagon? From what I have heard practice has been great this week for everyone. I really think the coaches are going to have the boys much more prepared this Friday night and we are going to bring our A-game against North. As long as we play smart football with no turnovers, and few penalties. I can see us coming out with the win.
  8. Ok "Clone", I'll make sure I get my post approved by you next time. And if you even are a Falcons fan, why worry about what I said to RebelYell? I really don't get Falcon fans, why can't we ban together like other schools fans, instead of a select few always trying to start something between each other?
  9. Before anyone jumps on me for talking about Devin, I am just letting RebelYell know about him, I am not hyping him up, just giving someone background information. A little about Devin Rogers 8th grade football he ran for over 1500 yards and 22 tds, playing only the first half of most games. Last season as a Freshman at Volunteer he played and started the last 5 games of the season @ running back rushing for 532 yards and 2 tds. He is the starting running back from the get go this season and started off against Elizabehton with 104 tough yards and 1 td. He is 15, 5'9 165 pound, speed back, that has great field vision and can cut on a dime, he also isn't afraid to take a hit or hit someone if they are in his way. Once again not hyping Devin, just giving background information for someone who ask, before I get 10 people telling me I shouldn't talk about him.
  10. This pretty much sums up where I see things right now too, except I wouldn't say we have a good (or bad) QB yet. One so-so game leaves that issue very much undecided. But if the tackling and line play doesn't improve significantly it wouldn't matter if Peyton Manning was under center. Hey DB Fans, you all better stop talking about not having a good offensive line, NETfan will come onto your thread and start saying you are bashing the kids. Just some friendly advice
  11. All I can say is I am pretty disappointed in the Falcons fans that can't support one of your own, why down a player of the Falcons. Also I bet the same people that get on here and down him, clap and cheer for him when he makes a good run. Let me ask this of the true Falcons fans, do you hope that we have a bad season? It seems like everyone always loves to down the Falcons, but when we try to build up the team and say positive things we are hated on. I would love for us to pull together as a solid force and support all the boys!
  12. NETfan this is not the 1950's were a coach will tell a kid to pack up and move to another school. This is 2009 and Devin made the choice to go to Volunteer, there were other high schools in the area that wanted him when he was coming out of middle school. But he made the choice to go and play football with his friends. This is the last time I will ever discuss Devin with you. You will always not agree with us on him. I guess you dislike Chris Sensabaugh as well. Also you do realize that opinions are like a-holes and everybody has one. This is the age of the message board, which is public domain. Message boards are for people to voice their opinion and not everyone will agree with everything that is said, that is the beauty of America, Freedom of Speech. Also NETfan I am sure its real fun for you to hide behind a screen name and talk about young men and Volunteer High School, how about come on down to Volunteer this Friday and watch the game so you can give your own opinion next week SullivancountyFan, I think this week will be a good game. I don't think it will be a blow out for either team. I am sure both teams will put in hard work this week and be ready come Friday night. Most importantly lets hope that everyone makes it out of the game injury free. Focus should be on the health of each and everyone of these young men each and every week. Volunteer has some work to do all around, lets face it this was the first game of the year this past week, its not like we are in mid season form. We have to give this team some time to see what we really have, Elizabethton had very talented players on offense and we have alot of young players on both sides of the ball. I have been wondering does Volunteer have a strength and conditioning coach? If not I think we should bring one in and get the boys on a good program.
  13. Everyone loves to throw out 40 times when a kid has never been to a combine, once the North players go to a combine such as Nike Sparq or Schuman's and they have their 40 times verified you can talk about their 40 times then. heck the kids down here at Sevier County say they have a kid that runs a 4.31, but it was also done by a coach on a stop watch, and it is also high school kids telling everyone the times. You know how kids like to exaggerate.
  14. I think we also need to find a full back for the Falcons that will attack the defenders. The fb's job is to hit the first man he comes to so as the RB can get out of the back field. Maybe use Jordan Lawson at FB because he has been Devin's FB before and he has the size to hit some kids and probably won't dance around like our starting FB does.
  15. I agree that our defense needs major work for tackling. These types of fundamentals need to be learned in practice, not game nights. However, they are not allowed to as harsh in practice as they are on Friday nights. Several of these boys think a 5 finger slap will halt an opposing member because it worked in practice. Not gonna happen on Friday night boys. Learn to wrap it up! Is it me or do I sense bias here with mentioning Devin Rogers so much in one post? This is a team and needs to be played as such. There is no I or one man show in team. Rogers is a talented athlete, but he's not the only talent at Volunteer. However, were we watching the same ball game? Sure, he tackled a guy pretty good. I seen others tackle just as good Friday night. Was Devin's or any of the others enough to stop this opposing team? No. I guess you didn't read what I said, I was talking about the block on the kick off return. Watch as Devin comes from his Kick Retrun position to make a block, if #24 wouldn't have muffed the punt he might have got some yardage. Also maybe if some of the guys in front could have made blocks, watch as #28 gets blown by http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BVkRjdz_h2k
  16. North must have one of the fastest D's in the area. 4.5 is really fast for players who play LB and DE in this area. Those two could outrun Volunteer's whole team if they really run that fast. I seen North play Thursday and I sure didn't see that speed on Defense. Central didn't play very well in that game. Any team with a Defense(Volunteer doesn't have a good D) should be able to beat North. All they do is run the ball and when they do throw it they put #7 in to complete a few. North's #7 is tough and they have a good O line. I think that Volunteer will be able to run and throw the football well in this game. If Volunteer stinks it up on the field again I still believe they could win. my cousin plays for north but he is a freshman and plays on jv...but any ways yes that is accuarte both outside linebackers run 4.6 40's and one DE ran a 4.4 and the other DE ran a 4.8...but those are on stop watches so those are not that accurate but still gives you a general idea that the defense is fast... one of the linebacker burnt that CB from central was like 5 yards behind him if you went to the game then you kno that was true...o pearcy #7 runs a 4.6 too again on a stop watch so there ya have it So North has a DE that runs a 4.4, why is he not being recruited by all the top D-1 programs in the nation with a 40 time like that? Why is he not your running back, especially if he is faster then Pearcy #7 who runs a 4.6? Sounds like North has a track team on Defense.
  17. Your right, such a rich football history family. So what's his excuse for not getting the job done on a repeated routine basis? What's his problem that he hasn't structured Volunteer's football program to those of his family's past traditions? He lacks the ability, ambition and the know how to do so. OUCH! And for your remarks of me and my buddies taking over. I've heard that one million times from chumps like yourself and it's as old as other crap. I make more money where I'm at and I'll stay there. Also, I've heard the line of taking time to build a winning team just as much. It again is so old. Get over it. Building that team is not gonna happen until you get your head out of backend and do something about it. Which is exactly what I said above. Now I'm done with your drivel. You've made no effort to explain your standards for fixing the situation. The only thing you have done is make more excuses. I've said my peace about the event, take it or leave it. Coach Rider has always said if you don't like what he is doing to tell him to his face. As for him giving Devin 22 carries, what is wrong with that, when he is gaining yardage? Especially when the rest of the offense can't move the ball. I think we need to have open tryouts for a punter starting tomorrow at practice!
  18. I feel that we messed up from the start. When you are the visitor and you win the coin toss you take the ball on offense to start out, don't try to defend the field. Also how can the QB pass or RB run, when the O-line can't hold a block long enough for either to happen? The 104 yards Devin rushed for were the hardest 104 yards I have seen a high school player work for, where as the Betsy backs had holes to run through on 80% of their plays.
  19. After last night, I think we will have our hands full with North. It seems like our defense still hasn't figured out that you have to wrap up a guy to be able to tackle him, we need to get back to basic fundamentals, I know North is like a 90% run and 10% pass, so you would think we would stack the box and try to stop the run, at least that is what I would do if I was coaching Volunteer. It's really sad on our part that the best block of the night came from Devin Rogers on a play in which he was the deep man on the kick off return and laid a heck of a block on someone coming to tackle the guy who took the kickoff. If our O-line and Fullback would learn to block like Devin, then when we run the ball with Devin he would be able to get some more running room.
  20. Tonight football doesn't matter, wins and losses don't matter. What matters is a young man has lost his life and parents have lost a child. This is a said day in East Tennessee, thoughts and prayers go out to the Logue family, and the South Family from the Falcons.
  21. Getting ready to make the long trip up the road from Sevierville to Betsy, I hope the Falcons can come through with a win to make the trip worth it. lol Can't wait to see what we can do in a full 48 mins! Good luck tonight Falcons!
  22. East 21-0 Central 14-10 Volunteer 35-31 Science Hill 24-21 Boone 21-14 South 37-24 Farragut 35-21 Greeneville 42-10
  23. Devin is feeling good this week, with Volunteer running the jumbo package, once Devin got to the outside he was free game for the DB defenders on that play, he got a stinger on that hit.
