  1. Glad to hear Cannon was competitive. Bees where are all the players that quit because they didn't like Coach Bartsch? I know some of them have came back, but where are the rest? It's hard to compete with only 35-40 players because most are playing both ways. Hope Coach Schrenk can find a way to be entergetic and get people excited about the program and get more players before the season starts.
  2. Well, then the program will not grow at the high school level. Look at the example that coach Rigsby set with the boys basketball team with AAU this summer, even with the 5th grade he was there working hands on and implementing the same fundamentals and mindset that he teaches the high school team. That is how you build for the future. The jr. high players will have to learn an entirely different system when they get to the high school level and that slows everything down. The program will stay exactly where it is at unless everyone shares the same mindset and system that is one reason I believe coach Dodgen will be a good athletic director he will bring new energy and ideas to the athletic department.
  3. Cannon Co. is very well coached and there team is made up of mostly sophmores and juniors. I agree they can be inconsistent and they play in one of the toughest AA districts in the state, but if they can find consistency they could be a very dangerous team, but I agree with most of your list
  4. You spoke to one of the coaches. What did he say about the numbers situation? The last that I heard the number of players was no where near where it needed to be. The spread offense is designed to be explosive, but its a totally different system then Cannon Co. has ever ran and I am curious if we have the personel to run it effectively. If I were Coach Shrenk I would be meeting with the jr. high coaches and let them start teaching the jr. high team the spread now if he plans on being here for awhile
  5. Different players respond to different coaching styles. I always liked when a coach yelled at me and showed some fire that is what motivated me, but that is not every coach's style. Coach Dodgen has a talented incoming freshman class and some good players in the elementary school level. Know one knows the future, but I think coach Dodgen could stay here a long time and be successful. He will do well as AD, some prgress will be slow but I am sure he will improve things and hopefully develop a new athletic culture at CCHS!
  6. I wouldn't worry about that very much, he has kids in school there and that could be a reason why he hasn't moved, but Coach Dodgen is dedicated to Cannon Co. and his team is loaded with potential to do great things this season. They had a very successful camp as did the boys team. He will improve the athletics department here, and do a good job in my opinion
  7. I want to believe it bees, but I am very concerned with the low number of players, and I have no clue how well the players are picking up the new system and It is yet another new coach unfamiliar with our region so its going to take some adjusting.
  8. Coach Dodgen. He will do a good job
  9. I agree warrior things could go very good or very bad depending on several factors. Number of players has to increase and depends on how players respond to the spread being put in. Cannon Co. athletics are heading in a new direction now. There is a new athletic director who has a passion for improving things and not settling for the way things have been done here for so long and that is what has been needed for a very long time
  10. I agree he needs to be seen in the community on more than just friday nights. He needs to get out and sell himself and the program. That is part of coaching in a smaller town people want to see you and talk to you and feel like a part of the program
  11. Yes he will, I am still curious as to where all the players that complained about Bartsch are? They wanted a coaching change and now they have it. I hate that the numbers are small for football, and it may take coach Schrenk having some sucess before the numbers increase. The administration put the program in a bad situation and I can understand why prospective players would be hesitant to come out and play and until there are some results they may stay low. I hope that I am wrong but it could be reality
  12. Spy, that hire would have been a dream come true and the boat would have finally been rocked in Cannon County and that is what is needed. all of that person's stratigies are proven and are succesful the only problem is he would do things the right way and we never do the smart thing in Cannon Co.
  13. Coach Knox will do a good job as principle, now I wonder who will be in charge of appointing a new athletic director? A new culture is needed and a new face and leader for all the athletics at CCHS. There is so many great things that can be done at CCHS with athletics right now
  14. I understand why he cancelled it Friday, but I dunno why he would have cancelled it Thursday as well. I bet spring practice starts late because the coach has to drive from Clarksville because he has to stay until the end of the year.
  15. If I make it I will be sure and talk to you I am glad the plays being picked up well. If those players do not come back that quit under Bartsch, it will show a few things, first it will show that those players disrespected there former coach and never opened up to his philosophy and that they are not dedicated to winning, and it will also show the administration that perhaps it was the players responsibility and not all Coach Bartsch's fault and maybe next time they will not let the players run the program and let the coach do his job.
  16. I am sure there will be some sloppy play because its a new system and a new staff. Depending on how good the team is picking up the spread there should be some offensive explosiveness. I am concerended with the low number of players at spring paractice even if ten are with other sports, they would only make around 40 at the most, it was not long ago Cannon Co. was around 60-65 players. I thought all of the ones who complained about and didn't respect Bartsch would be coming back if they don't, then I guess they were not real players anyway and the new coach shouldn't want those type of players because those are type of players that ruin a program and set poor examples for the underclassmen. Hope I get a chance to come to the game Bees.
  17. You are right spy, the damage has been done, due to the administration's decisions not the new coach's so I hope he is able to get players on the field and coachthem to peform at a competitive level. Change is needed so bad in the whole way athletics are valued and ran at CCHS. There is tons of potential and it could become a great thing, but someone is needed who's number one priority is athletics and nothing else we always try to solve the same problems old solutions, and the way high schools sports is constantly changing, we have to stay ahead or we will slip into mediocrity and refuse to listen to new ideas. I'm glad the players are upbeat about the new coach, as long as his motivation tactics translate into wins. Winning has to be the top priority, and whatever that coach has to do to get players to perfrom is what he needs to do. Winning heals everything, and a winning mind-set is what needs to be built in the whole athletic department
  18. I agree pspy. He needs to hit the halls full force and try and recover the players lost from the previous staff and also as you said sell himself to the players and sell his program and try and rejuvenate the excitement about the program. The administration is still up in the air about who will be principal and AD so if he would just bring a little excitement and enthusiasm to a negative situation it would go a long way I think.
  19. There were some experienced assistants from major programs in the finalists, but he is here now and he is the center of the program and the face of it. He will at least 5 assistants that I know of for sure. You did a great job getting the program to respectability and getting the excitement back to the program. A lot of my ideas are original and party of my plan as you touched on is fundraising, and that requires getting sponsors from Murfreesboro, every business in town is asked by every organization, so try and get all you can locally, but we can not be afraid to go to Murfreesboro and get sponsors there. I am a big believer in the classroom. The things we do and the philosophies we study are proven paths to success. We study different methods of solving problems and effective decision making in high school athletics The problem is they are not applied here, but if they were I guarantee you would see improvement. I agree there is no substitute for experience, that is why I am trying anyway I can to get involved. The good thing about the classes I am in is that we study even small schools, even smaller than Sequatchie and Cannon and find ways to raise money, increase attendence, build a championship culture, etc.. Do you return alot of your skill postion players?, I tried to follow your team last year, but I wasn't really sure how many you graduated
  20. I have talked with people from Riverdale and got some ideas from them, and some from Siegel. The best education I have had though is from the the Sports Management department at MTSU and the different case studies we do on successful and non-successful programs and the characteristics that make programs successful and we do not practice very many characteristics of a successful athletic department at Cannon Co. We have to change a lot of things its plain and simple. All the players seem to like the new coach so he has already conquered step one, I just think the administration sacrificed alot to get coach Schrenk and a lot of people want to see some results on why he was the guy. He has the support trust me they had a meet and greet yesterday and I would have went, but I was coaching an AAU tournament, but I am sure there were plenty of people there. Time will tell if he was the right choice and I really do wish the whole team nothing but the best, and I will support them 100% percent, but its hard to keep supporting an administration that will not "rock the boat" and even listen to possible change. I hope the new administartion brings a new attitude and a new way of thinking. Hope your spring practice is going well !
  21. I don't take it argumenative, like I said I enjoy hearing your opinion and discussing things with you. That being said I would like your opinion on this. What do you do when you are tired of seeing the athletics stay at a mediocre level and do things opposite of what successful high school programs do and all you want to do is give some ideas to the administration, not something they have to do,but just some ideas to think about on ways to improve the programs, but they seem content to stay at the level that we are at and not be open to anything new at all and be happy with "average". I don't know if you know this or not, but the principle that hired Coach Schrenk will not even be at the school anymore and the AD is rumored to be at another postion as well and they were the only 2 people that were involved in the hiring process. That is not fair #1 to the new coach because he will have to work for an administration that is not familiar with him and did not hire him, and its also not fair to the players because if leadership doesn't have stability from the top it will not filter thru to them. My point is until Cannon Co. learns to they can not solve new problems with old ways we will stay where we are at. When they become open to new ideas and a new way of thinking then progress can be made and the program's culture will change and achieve levels that we have never been before. I hope Coach Schrenk is someone who will lead football to that new level, but that is just the begining. There is along way to go and a lot of work to do until this athletic program reaches its potential and until we embrace change and become willing to model ourselves after successful programs we will stay at this level of complacency
  22. The reason they are called "cliches" are because very few people do what those cliches say. Those "cliches" have a very powerful and true message and if more people did what they say then athletics would be a lot further along in Cannon Co. I will be at all the games on Friday nights and I painted the goal posts last year and would gladly do it again and support the athletics here anyway that anyone will let me. He will have support, the field will be packed as usual and has already been given many assistants, but you must agree that every coach must prove there-self. It's good that you are willing to learn most coaches that have sucess as you have quit learning and assume they have done it all. I am still trying to learn daily how I could become a better athletic administrator and director. I have learned alot and still have a lot to learn, but I do have a passion for improving the athletics in Cannon Co. and I will not be satisfied until we bring the athletics to a level they need to be and change the culture here.
  23. Warrior, the way a coach proves himself is his record, when you were here you improved things drastically, and it showed in the win-loss column. You proved that you were a good coach by the way your team performed. Every coach's job is to prove himself to his players, fans, and administartion. Have you ever heard the quote "everyday at your current job,is an interview for your next job." That is very true. When you were here you improved things and gave Cannon Co. wins and a new standard for sucess. At Northwest his record was not good and I think most people are just curious as to what made him the best choice. What else can we go on to judge a coach except his record and the type of culture they build? If a coach ever loses the desire to improve or prove himself, they have become complacent and that is the worst place you can be. Everyone has to prove their self to people in any profession. You had to prove yourself at Cannon Co. and you did. Keep posting I enjoy your posts and talking with you.
  24. I really wish I could. You are right about the committee of former players because they would test the football knowledge of prospective coaches. What we have to do in Cannon Co. to change the culture of the entire athletic program is to break away from the old ways of thinking. We will never change or grow with the old ways of doing things. If we stay with what we have always done, we are gonna stay at a level of mediocrity and never reach the potential the athletic program has here. Athletics are constantly evolving, there is pressure to win even at high schools like Cannon Co. just look we fired Bartsch for going 4-6. Then there is the job of getting fans to all the athletic events and constantly always tring to improve facilities and market your program and most important always thinking of ways to get better and never becoming complacent. with all of the pressures that come with running a successful high school athletic program you can't solve new challenges with the old ways of doing things. With all of the shake-up of the administration, Cannon Co. has a chance to put people in roles that will take the athletic department to new levels, but to do that they have to find someone whos only passion is to grow and improve the programs here. If people do not give 100% and are not sold out to making the programs better than we will stay where we are.
  25. If I remember correct Coach Bartsch ran a fast-paced offense, and liked to go from huddle to snap in 3-5 seconds. I just hope the new coach gives us a reason to be excited, and proves he was the right hire. He will have to prove it because there will be an entirely new administration that did not choose him and had no input on the hiring process. This is why there should have been a search committee of 4-6 people, with no parents, more than just the princple and vice-princple should have been involved
