  1. I am ready to see Southwind with Jarnell Stokes and J-3 take on Arlington Country Day with their HUGE line-up (nobody under 6 ft.) Should be a good one!
  2. Haywood will win the district this year in my opinion. Last year they played plenty of freshman that stepped up and played well (district tourny). This year plus the next 2-3 will be ran by Haywood, and I think they can compete with 14AA due to all of the athletes. Haywood will be at the state tourny atleast once in the next 3 years book it!
  3. That is true that 14AA is one of the best districts in the state but did you really think that region would turn out like this when you saw the results from district tournaments. I really thought that Haywood would for sure pull out a "W" and had faith in Covington and especially Westview at home with a "rebuilding" Bolivar club. I used the word rebuilding not because Bolivar is rebuilding like most teams seem to do every few years, but by the Bolivar standard this was a rebuilding year. With that said after all the top players from this district gone next year 13AA is going to have another tough year competing with 14AA.
  4. I know a kid that transferred in to my school when I was in high school from New Mexico and how they did it was they had their district tournament and the top 2 teams in the district tournament moved to the next stage, and after that if you didnt come top 2 in your district there were 8 bids given across the state by how you performed during the season. So lets say you were the #1 team in the state but get upset in your district tournament you could still recieve a tournament bid. After districts there would be 32 teams left and all of the district tournament winners would get to host the first game to a lower seed even if the team had to travel across the state. Each team had a seed 1-32 all District tournament winners had the top however many districts there were and after that the 2nd place teams in district and the teams that got a bid from the state were seeded. The top seeds hosted the first round then after that they would take the top 16 teams to state. All that would do is put one more round to our state tournament and I think it would help even out the state tournament. I also think that it would be cool for kids to experience different atmospheres to play in. For example, lets say Westwood is number 1 in the state and the 32 seed is from knoxville. They would have to come to Westwood to play that first game. It might be a long drive but all these kids, I think, would love the trip across state to see different places in Tennessee. Do I think this will ever happen? no! But I do think it is a good and interesting format that New Mexico uses.
  5. Westwood or Clarksville Academy will win this and I would put money on it, but if not one of these two Lake County or Humboldt. If Clarksville Academy doesnt win then I think West Tn brings home the Gold ball in all 3 classes with single A going to Westwood, LC, or Humboldt, AA going to Libery, and AAA going to Melrose, Central, White Station, and Maybe DC if they can get a home sub-state game.
  6. At the beginning of the season I gave my predictions on how things would finish, and I believe I got the top 4 right. (Tournament Results) If I remember right I said Westview, Haywood, Covington, and then Dyersburg. GCpioneer your right (like most of the time) you said that nobody in this district would make it out of region and its already true. You know your basketball and I applaud you for that. With that said Covington Westview and Haywood under acheived in my opinion. Dyersburg beat Jackson Southside on a neutral court if Im right so I believe that Haywood should have handled business there. Fayette Ware is a really good team with a lot of athletes but if Covington really thought they were the #2 team in the state they would have taken care of business, and Westview drew a hard match-up in Bolivar but I really believed that they could and would handle business at home with Jacob Lloyd controlling the team. Dyersburg might have shocked some people by making it to region this year but I am proud to be a trojan after watching them fight and fight against Crockett, Westview, Covington, and Liberty this tournament season. They thought they were going to win every game they played and thats how it should be. Before the Liberty game I talked to a few players and parents and in their mind there was no reason to think they were going to lose. Im going to miss watching all those seniors but next year will be fun even though it is going to be a rebuilding year. To get back on track 13AA you can say is not as good as 14AA but in my opinion those top 3 teams under acheived and could easily be playing to get in the region championship. I look forward to the state tournament and great basketball! And again GCpioneer kudos to you, you have a lot of knowledge in basketball and in west tn sports!
  7. Me and my room mate both played ball in high school in west tennessee and are now at MTSU. We are trying to start a program here in Murfreesboro but can not seem to find a middle school coach to support us with a gym to use. If anybody has a gym we can use you can leave a post on here with information of how to contact you. If we get a gym we will make our rounds to every middle school in Rutherford county to tell every kid about us and our program. I might be young but I am going to college to be a coach and I have had a 6th/7th grade team every spring and summer sense my sophomore year in high school. I want to get these kids ready skill wise for high school and teach them how to win ball games.
  8. Dyer County in my opinion is a very good team, and most will agree with me but I think Robert Hubbs is the best sophomore in the state. He is putting up 20 to 30 poinits up every game. Not only with spot up 3-pointers but with dunks and a smooth mid-range game. His dad played at the U of Arkansas and I see this kid playing at Memphis, Tennessee, and the Kentucky level. He is 6'5" and still growing in my opinion. Do not get me wrong I am a Trojan fan but I can only have respect for these kids at DC. Many people may not like McCord but these kids play hard so dont disrespect them. If DC can pull out a home sub-state game and there is no upset of Melrose with Adonis Thomas I can see Hubbs carrying this team to state. Remember last year he scored 19 or 20 against White Station, in the sub state game, who ended up being state runner up with Memphis Tiger Joe Jackson. These Choctaws are hungry and with them being AAA and my Trojans being AA I have to support my local team when they get in the tournaments. With Hubbs scoring like he does and the leadership of Fred Yarbrough and the sick talent that can show up from Justin Williamson, Koty Gross, Cedarius Taylor, and Tay Kennedy this team is going to be deadly! Trojan fans get over the stupid drama of hating DC and DC get over the hating of D-burg and support your 2 local teams! They are in different classes and are both playing like they want to prove people wrong. Good luck Choctaws from a TROJAN fan! Ill be watching from the stands during your tournament run if my team isnt playing! And Hubbs keep it up and Ill be watching you on TV in a few years!
  9. Dyersburg comes in with a surprising 4-1 district record with an upset of Haywood AT Haywood. How do you think this game will turn out? Tavarus Graves and Winn Decker have led the Trojans with at least one of them scoring 20 points each district game if I remember right, but Covington always has athletes. What are your predictions on this game and how the district will end up turning out? I think Dyersburg can get their first win against their old coach if they play smart with their great half-court defense. 67-63 Dyersburg in another upset for the Trojans mark my word! GO TROJANS!!!!!
  10. District record 1.Westview (13-3) Jacob Lloyd with Garner and Co. back look out they will win this district 2.Haywood (11-5)Commage plus athletes enough said 3.Covington (9-7) Lost alot but they dont rebuild they reload 4.Dyersburg (9-7) Decker dropped over 30 twice last year with young and old talent behind him they will make the region....mark my word not just because im from the burg but this will happen 5.Ripley (8-8) Lost 4 of 5 starters and 8 of top 9 overall players too much youth to be a threat in my eyes 6.Crockett (6-10) Next year they will be a top 5 team in this district 7.Milan (5-11) Lost too much leadership from last year but sheppard can coach so I might have this one off a little but from talent I think this is about right 8.Gibson (3-13) Saw them play in the spring and summer and they did not impress 9.Obion (1-15) Maybe if they get hot and make shots they can upset somebody Westview has everyone coming back and I think Lloyd is on a mission to make this team special. Haywood could take the title and Covington will be there too. Look out for Dyersburg with Mahaffeys second year and if the youth can come through Ripley and Crockett can make a push. I think that Westview can make a sub-state push and possibly Haywood if they can get hot at the right time. Over-all I say for the second year in a row 14AA takes both sub-state spots but this is at a pre-season glance. The only thing I will guarantee is my Trojans will make region and Ill stand by that until the time comes when they are eliminated from the district tourny.
  11. Haywood might have talent but no coach to take them anywhere. Last year Dyersburg who did not match up with them at any position athletic wise was able to come in to Brownsville and win the game. Not because of talent but because of the poise of the team and they have one of the best coaches in the state. Mahaffey will get Dyersburg back on track sooner than later, but back to Haywood, if they have a serious coach year in and year out they have a serious chance of taking state at any time. I saw their middle school play Dyersburg middle last year in the sectional final and they ran the Trojans off the court. With all of that talent coming up all they need is a coach and I would take them against Bolivar and Liberty any day of the week.
  12. How will things shape up? The standings are- 1.Ripley 8-0 2.Haywood 7-1 3.Covington 6-2 4. Milan 4-4 4.Dyersburg 4-4 4.Crocket 4-4 7.Westview 2-6 8.Obion 1-7 9.Gibson 0-8 Dyersburg and Milan face off on friday to try to take a lead on one another.
  13. I believe Dyer Co. will be ready for them especially how most of the Dyersburg team used to play for Dyer Co. (OOPS! I let that one slip! Sorry Dyersburg people!) but anyways Dyersburg doesn't have as much speed as Dyer Co.; Dyersburg doesn't have the same shooters. Dyersburg is by FAR less talented than Dyer Co. and I believe they won't give up, but neither will Dyer Co... It's always nice to win by a HUGE margin in this rivalry for 1 reason: BRAGGING RIGHTS!!!!! Dyersburg may play hard, but seriously Dyer Co. plays hard also! Look at their respective schedules and look what happened in those SIMILAR OPPONENTS! We'll see how hard Dyersburg will play Tuesday! Lets see here Dyersburg roster Trey walker-Dyersburg, Tevin Taylor-DC, Kody Howard-DC,Sam Crocker-DC,Tavis Mcphereson-DC,Winn Decker-Obion BUT parents teach at Dyersburg,Marcus Nelson-Dyersburg,Percy Brown-Dyersburg,Demetrius McCrite-Dyersburg,Jamal Fleming-Dyersburg,Andrew Sanders-Dyersburg. Ok that is 4 from Dc all the rest from DYERSBURG! Lets look at the DC roster! Fred Yarbrough and Justin Williamson-Covington DJ Adams,Donnie Nelson,Koty Gross,Cedarius Taylor,Tay Kennedy-All Dyersburg kids growing up! then you have Big Ced-Halls John Hudson-Gibson, ok now lets get to the players FROM DC Robert Hubbs gets to play Wesley Bernard and Chandler Sheppard ONLY get in if they are up by 30 points and Cranston Fisk. Sorry if Im missing any DC fans
  14. The standings right now look like this. 1.Ripley 2-0 1.Haywood 2-0 3.Covington 2-1 4.Milan 1-1 4.Westview 1-1 4.Crockett 1-1 7.Dyersburg 1-2 8.Obion 0-2 9.Gibson 0-3 How will everything shape up at the end of the season? Any thoughts?
  15. The new coach is Blaine Mahaffey I have got to meet him really good guy and good coach. Yes this will be a good test for Dyersburg hopefully they can pull this one out, but the Lake Co. game is going to be really tough!
