  1. I thought this game was to be rescheduled for last night. According to the paper 2-3 weeks ago the game was going to be on Thursday because of the UT-NC State game.
  2. As part of the '87 team, I agree. Today is a much different time though. Only a handful of players have the desire, dedication, and work ethic as those on the two playoff teams you just mentioned.
  3. Just let it ride. It's played out anyway.
  4. I've never heard him say anything derogatory.
  5. You got that right. I just know how some can exaggerate things. I know the coach that is being referred to and yes I have seen his rants. 20 years ago this wouldn't even be a topic of discussion. I guess that's the kind of society we live in today, no thick skin. What if the coin is flipped and a player is going off at halftime? For example, last years Coffee Pot game. My son was a senior captain, an emtionally intense player, and a transfer from Coffee County. While trailing at the half, I know he had to have some choice words but he won't tell me what he said. I asked a couple of other players and they told me it wasn't pretty but it fired them up. It ended up possibly the greatest comeback in THS history.
  6. Either that, or they thought we should have went deeper into the playoffs. This crap didn't happen last year.
  7. Yes, I have heard it. No, I don't condone it around the young MEN. I'm not going to get bent out of shape unless it is berating or belittling an individual(s). It's football, it happens. It was in the press box and not on the sidelines. Wait a minute. You just said you did not attend one game this year. How do you know this even happened this year? We even have a new "enclosed" pressbox. Would be be kinda hard to hear it in the stands. Unless, maybe it was my dad. I don't know of any enclosure that would contain him.
  8. Here we go. Now we've got start sheltering high school football players because of foul language. It's football, some of the most successful coaches have used a few colorful words. These kids see & hear much worse on television and most parents won't even turn it off. Why? Because they are right beside them watching it too. It's this kind sheltering that creates softees on the football field and life in general. We had Coach Mac and we turned out okay. This thread is past its time.
  9. This thread is still going?! It's been 10 days. C'mon, really?
  10. I am only commenting on this thread because we(Tullahoma) played JC in the semis in '87. And, yes, JC was one of the best HS teams I had seen. Todd Collins was probably the best LB I had seen up to that point. (At least until he met our running back, Maurice Shaw.) I can understand to a degree, this so called "curse." Before '87, the talk was always about our '79 team that played Oak Ridge either in the quarters or semis. Not sure which. After the '87 season our head coach left for Oak Ridge and took some assistants with him. After that, we had 3 or 4 losing seasons. Then another coaching change that brought John Olive to Tullahoma. Since then we have had 16 0f 19 winning seasons and several playoff appearances. But last year's team was the first to make to the quarterfinals since '87. Both JC & Tullahoma were special teams that year with several players that played D1 and even the NFL. Those kinds of teams don't come along very often. Size of the school doesn't matter that much. We played McGavock this year, the largest in the state, and they were 2nd worst team I have seen behind Warren County. Talent plays a large part, coaching plays a large part, and a little luck doesn't hurt. If you guys have the talent and coaching, just be patient it will get better.
  11. Who were the players that quit? I know of one, but it had nothing to do with coaching. As far as running up the middle, that is where we really missed Trey Burks. I listened to the game on the radio, and Scott & Binns called some running plays that seemed to start up the middle but would be bounced outside for whatever reason.
  12. 9AAA made their own statement tonight as well.
  13. Hard to overcome that many turnovers. Don't know if it would have made much difference, but not having Burks changed the dynamics of our offense. Good season Cats! Good luck next year. Congrats to Centennial.
  14. You can't compare a whole district to one team. The reality is D7AAA is absolutely the best district in the state, hands down. I don't see that changing anytime soon because the 'Boro is one the fastest growing cities in the country. I heard there will a new high school built in Rockvale. If true, talent will be thinned again. As far as a single team goes, Maryville is the standard that other teams work toward. So, until someone knocks them off, Maryville is the best TEAM in the state. JMO
