  1. I wasn't at the game, but have heard rumors that Catholic's star forward, Reece McKenzie, was injured in the first half (would explain why Seymour won, as most of Catholic's offense has been from her all season). Can anyone verify this and how serious an injury it was? Hate to see such a talented player injured. Details anyone that was there?
  2. I'm confused! This article in the Knoxville News Sentinel says "Porter, who already owns the Bearden career-scoring mark, set a school single-season record with her 39th goal." Yet in the exact same paper (on the page before this) she is listed with 28 goals (11 assists, 39 points) for the season. Which is correct? I think they meant she had 39 points, not goals? Anyone know for sure?
  3. I've been on travel for most of this season, so I have missed almost all the big games. This one surprised me also. I talked to some parents who were there and they told me that in their opinion Catholic dominated the offensive game and West the defensive. I was told that Reece had 2 shots that should not have been stopped, but West's Kaitlyn Cody came up with incredible saves on them, one which came at her so hard and fast, she had to bend over backwards to save after trying to tip it over the goal (in fact the parents questioned whether it was actually a goal). They also said that the last goal West put in was in the final minute or so after Catholic pulled its defense forward to score. I agree that Catholic has other good players. They're a very young team. Lots of potential for the future.
  4. Will be tough to decide which one to go to. I'm leaning toward the CAK game as I believe KCHS will have no problem with Anderson Co. and Bearden no problem with Farragut. Karns & West might be close. Powell and Seymour just isn't as big a game. Maryville has been looking good and CAK always gives a good game. Probably the best one to watch of the batch.
  5. I watched the Farragut vs. CAK game and was very impressed with CAK on and off the field. Way to go CAK and A/AA soccer! You should be very proud of yourselves for such a class act. Perhaps the outcome of this game will give you the recognition you need to be considered seriously as a contender at the AAA level. I believe you could compete with the "big" guys (i.e. Bearden, Collierville, Brentwood, etc.) for the state championship and even win. You played a great game of soccer last night. Loved watching it!
  6. I wondered where Christi Padget had gone for high school. I had the opportunity to see her play with her club team at the state championships and she was very impressive. I expect to see her in the news alot in coming years. she is a very talented forward.
  7. Just curious as to why the Knox Catholic game would go on their record as a tie when they lost in PK's?
  8. I watched the gold division final (Maryville vs. Knoxville Catholic) and Maryville outplayed a very tired looking Catholic team. Have to give MVP to the Catholic goalie, Caroline Johnson, for her unbelievable performance. Catholic was outshot 22-8! Caroline had some awesome saves! Maryville's Ashley Bridenbaugh was super on defense. She had a tough task trying to stop Catholic's awesome freshman, Reece McKenzie (whom, after speaking with parents, I was told scored 10 of her teams 12 goals for the weekend! Wonder if she was the top scorer at this tournament also? I believe she was at the Bearden tournament). They were 2 very good teams. Maryville seemed to be the better team, although hard to judge when Catholic seemed to be so exhausted. I really like Maryville's, Bridenbaugh. Hope to see her play some more.
  9. Here are the brackets (single elimination): Gold (1st Bracket): 1) Shelbyville 2) Cleveland 3) Knox Catholic 4) Signal Mtn. Gold (2nd Bracket): 5) Boyd 6) Science Hill 7) Maryville 8) David-Lipscomb Blue (1st Bracket): 1) Anderson Co. 2) CCS 3) Tullahoma 4) Oooltewah Blue (2nd Bracket): 5) Coffee Co. 6) FRA 7) McMinn Central 8) TN High
  10. Does anyone know the CCS tournament schedule for this weekend yet? Was hoping to catch a couple of the games on Friday.
  11. Way to go Hardin Valley! Who did the scoring?
  12. Catholic girls all went to a school dance the night before, past midnight. This is why they looked so tired. They also were missing 2 key players, their best defender and a midfielder that was injured at the Friday night game vs. Cookeville. Typical of what you can expect from young, inexperienced players. Hopefully they learned their lesson and will show up to play from now on. Yes, the score was 2-0 at half in Catholic's favor.
  13. I saw a lot of good soccer this past weekend at the Bearden tournament. I was most impressed by a freshman at Catholic (*7 McKenzie) who ended up scoring 9 goals in 3 games! Was she the highest scorer of the tournament? She was an awesome athlete and only a freshman! I will definately be watching more Catholic games in the future. SoccerObserver
