  1. Ron Brock has been announced as the new coach for Ravenwood.
  2. Seems like there is considerable interest in this position. Was told that there have been quite a few applicants and that a decision would be made by the end of April. Have not heard any names and if any of the applicants are truly qualified. Has anyone heard anything?
  3. Heard that coach Williams at Ravenwood has resigned. Seems strange after Ravenwood had a decent season. Beat Brentwood for the first time in school history and beat previously unbeaten Hillsboro. Any word on a replacement?
  4. Looking for information. How did the teams from District 12 AAA finish in their tournament? Coach T, TSSSAA.org, and Jim314.com list 1) McGavock 2) Glencliff 3) Hunters Lane 4) Whites Creek The Tennessean has Whites Creek beating Hunters Lane 51 to 49 to finish 3rd. Coach T scoreboard had Hunters Lane winning. Can anyone confirm?
  5. Why make the claim " they just played that bad". Maybe it should be "Ravenwood played that good". In the regular season meetings of these two teams Hillsboro dominated by putting pressure on the ball and forcing turnovers. In this game Ravenwood handled all that Hillsboro could throw at them. The guards for Ravenwood played smart and patient and were not flustered by the pressure. They also hit the free throws at the end when it mattered the most. While I agree Hillsboro is a great team, let's give credit to a team that has improved during the season.
  6. Congratulation Ravenwood...final score was 49 - 47. Hillsboro was leading after 3 by a score of 34 to 26. Ravenwood outscored Hillsboro 23 - 13 in the 4th. This game came down to confidence and composure. Ravenwood showed both when the game was on the line. Even with three girls on the bench due to fouling out (one being their leading scorer and rebounder) they never quit.
  7. Congrats to Ravenwood, their first win over Brentwood!!! Ravenwood took control of this game from the opening tip off. Ravenwood lead every Qtr. Brentwood did not have an answer to Ravenwood's Freshman Post, Hutson, who had 22 points. A much improved showing for all the Ravenwood players.
  8. I am sure no one on this board knows for sure why she wants coaches to be teachers, only she can explain that. But to say she "doesnt understand the concept that sports adds a lot to the culture of the school" is unfounded. While you may not agree with her policies you can't argue the results. In Ravenwood's short history, open 6 years, they have had many successes in Athleltics, 5A Football State Champions, Runners up the following year. Laccross State Champions two times to name a few.
  9. My understanding as to why he was not kept had nothing to do with his abilities as a coach. Dr. Pam Vaden, the pricipal of Ravenwood, feels it was important that coaches also be teachers. Same thing happened with the soccer team and they had a lot of success with Coach West.
  10. From what I saw free throws were bad for both teams. Have not seen the book for an accurate count, but I have never seen so many fouls called in one game. The officiating was way too tight on both sides. Seemed like there was at least 65 to 70 fouls called in the game. Six players fouled out, three per team, and there were a few players in at the end with 4 fouls. Seems these three refs were a little over zealous with the whistle. Their continuous whistle blowing stopped both teams when they seemed to get momentum on their side.
  11. Can anyone please post the scores for the state tournaments going on this weekend at Motlow and Shelbyville.
  12. Mark is the Freshman Girls Coach and an assistant with the varsity at Ravenwood. My daughter has had the pleasure of playing for Mark twice. This past year as a Freshman at Ravenwood and back in 6th grade when he was a coach at Woodland Middle School. Mark has that ability to inspire players to find that next level of play. He is very intense, yet fair. He realizes that there are life leasons to be learned while playing a sport.
  13. The Knights did participate in D2 last year as 13u, finishing 2nd in the state behind Memphis Elite. They then went to D2 Nationals. The big difference for them this year is that they are almost 100% a different team. If I am not mistaken only two players are from last years team. This is not a fault of the coaching or the program ( I know how people on this board like to make assumptions). Many of the players elected to do Spring ball with groups from their High Schools. A couple players played up last year and I believe they went to there own age groups and a few were traveling considerable miles to play. The biggest difference is that Pride is at a different level than just about any team in the state. There are only a few teams in the state that can match up to them. Looking at the brackets it seems the Knights won a game to advance to play Pride. So it appears they can compete with other teams.
  14. 13u Div II State results: 1) Memphis Lady Elite 2) Lady Knights 3) Cleveland Hoopstars
