  1. Baylor 1 Father Ryan 0 Not a good showing by Baylor, although still a win. Just a bad game or a trend? Similar effort will not result in a successful Rivals weekend in Memphis.
  2. From what I've seen from preseason games where 2 referees are used, I'm beginning to think it's a better system. I think fouls are called more accurately and I haven't really seen that big a difference in potential offsides call or out-of-bounds errors. I think it's terribly hard for a center ref to cover the whole field and I haven't really seen center refs trusting the foul calls by the side refs. I'm interested to hear what refs and coaches think as opposed to this parent.
  3. How do people know the refs before the game?
  4. You're right, BIG NIGHT. How's a guy supposed to sleep while waiting for CoachT updates to flow in ?? Please get those updates in early.

Ok, I'm going to bend a bit here. First off, they are all very good schools. It may be that Baylor accepts a broader range of academic student than GPS but all these schools are top notch in meeting the needs of academically minded student-athletes. Just as someone shouldn't choose a school based on soccer, don't choose a school only on any certain reputation, scholastic or otherwise. These schools are all very different. Some kids will thrive in any of them, some kids won't. There is no right answer and you can tell this by seeing children from the same family in different schools. The private schools may offer more opportunity (hence the $$) but a kid who wants to succeed will do well wherever. In the end, the parents are much more important than the school. I'll stop here and get back to soccer.

Coach Barrueta certainly does try to help his girls, but Club Soccer will have a much greater influence than High School soccer in finding a college for soccer. As for GPS being "best academic school in Chattanooga", I don't think there's an article out there to back that up. Yes, GPS is very good, but singling it out above others like Baylor is a stretch. No one should choose a school based on soccer, whether college or high school. There are much greater considerations to factor than soccer or any sport for that matter.

Baylor played Ensworth Friday winning 4-0. Play Father Ryan 9/14 then siegel, St George, and Oak Ridge at Rivals.
  8. No, you are not missing the foul. It was before the clip started. That's why Cookevillesoccer said "the explanation ..." The foul occured more towards midfield, hence the challenge of letting the advantage play out even if a score was not immenent. BTW ... I had the same reaction to the clip as you did.
  9. I don't blame the ref at all for showing a bit of emotion on this. Judging when to let the advantage play out must be one of the hardest things in all of sports refereeing (sp?). To me, his reaction was that the intent of the play out rule "worked". This makes up just a bit for all the screams, especially at high school and club level, refs receive for "missed" fouls.

Good list. Some thoughts: 1. Baylor: Winning without injured top scorer. Not an easy adjustment as much of play for last 2 years went through her one way or the other in very direct style. They switched to 4-2-3-1 before the injury and development of greater possession play seems to be paying off. 2. ND: Always scrappy, well coached. The just find a way. 3. GPS: This team is a surprise to me. Yes, they have the best goalkeeper in Chattanooga, but they are scoring more than I expected. Will this hold up as the season goes on? 4. Soddy: I think they should be #2 but this opinion will be validated or smashed after Tuesday game against ND. 8. McMinn: As mentioned above, major kudos to this team for the schedule they are playing. I have no idea if McMinn will ever have the depth needed to compete at a higher level, but they have a good thing going up there. Solid coaching, improving players, great facilities, and great fans. And I believe the coach is looking long term as there are lots of different kids getting in. This team is definately about getting better rather than worrying about wins now. Their regional competitors better be ready as they will get wins soon at someone's expense. And how about this perfect soccer weather !!!!

Ok, before everyone starts dinging me, I know that the ND/CPA game is at Baylor.

This was a good game. CPA was very well organized and had some really nice players, especially on defense. However, team depth allowed Baylor to dominate possession thoughout. I don't know the shot statistics but it had to be 10:1 in Baylor's favor. CPA had one real shot, a 25 yard beauty of a strike. Baylor also had a goal taken away for a foul on a corner kick. I imagine the CPA/ND game will be a tight match between similar teams. Could ND's "unique" home field advantage be the difference? Just had to bring that up in case you know who is still reading these posts.
  13. You know how the saying goes .... "when you assume, you make an a** of you and me". That makes me an a** too

Ok, I fell for it. My wife always said I was too naive. Just more proof she is right I guess.

Wow ... I really am surprised. Maybe I've read things wrong, but you think Baylor isn't in the top 3 anymore? As good as McKenzie Thomas is, the rest of the team is no slouch and full of kids with Div 1 Club and ODP experience. I wouldn't sell them short. Let's see what happens at the Baylor Tournament this weekend .... that will tell us all quite a bit about relative team strength.
  16. I don't think this deserves it's own thread. It's a good article but just add link to the article in one of other threads. And it's not that I don't like Soddy; it's just the opposite. And there is not a better kid than Hannah Wyatt, and I mean that as a person, not a player.
  17. That would be a big loss for sure, but I think Baylor should still be ok. At least they will have the whole season to come up with a new plan. It's definitely too bad for her. She's one of the top players in the State, not just Baylor.
  18. Who has the season ending injury?
  19. I know it's just a scrimmage but Farragut 4-3 over JPII surprises me a bit. I would have thought JPII the better side. But I know, it's just a scimmage.
  20. Uh-oh. Looks like we need to start a thread for running up the score after having posted only a few scores.
  21. Soddy will be fine regardless of the outcome of these games. You have a quality coach and some nice players. These scrimmages are not about winning; they are about learning. That said, both these games will be fun to watch as many of the girls know each other through club ball. It's great that they can play competitively against each other without the game result meaning anything, except friendly pride that is.
  22. I was at State and heard Chattanooga people giving details. They say they have it in writing that TSSA said sit her in RPL. If that is true, and then they made her sit again, something is amiss. When do rules get reviewed for next season? It will be interesting to see if they change somehow. As for Chattanooga .... it's an interesting place for soccer. Too bad for the kids though really.
  23. I have been looking for how team points are awarded? Can't find it in TSSAA website. Can anyone help?
  24. Well said. I wish I was this clear and articulate in my message
