  1. Cougars run rule Watertown in the early game. Get run ruled by Adamsville in the late game.
  2. Cougars vs. CPA scheduled for today (4/5) called due to rain. Cougars play in the Blaze "A" Bash beginning tomorrow at 11:00 a.m. (vs. Watertown).
  3. MTCS is kind of like the weather -- great one day, not so great the next. We will see, we will see... Standings should be: Eagleville and Cascade with 1 loss each; Forrest and MTCS with 2 losses each; Moore County and Community with 3 losses each and Huntland with 4 losses. Because of the off weeks some teams have played as many as 6 games (Cascade and Moore County) and others have only played 4 games (Eagleville, Forrest, MTCS, Community, Huntland).
  4. MTCS gets a 4-2 come from behind win over Moore County for a district sweep. Both startling pitchers did well. Roberts for MTCS went 5 1/3 allowing 2 runs on 7 hits. Bateman for Moore through 5 allowed just 1 unearned run on 4 hits at one point striking out 5 in a row. Cougar batters got to him in the 6th with 4 hits and 3 runs to take the 4-2 lead. Bonabi for the Cougars got the last 2 outs in the top of the 6th and tossed a 1-2-3 inning in the top of 7 for the win. Cougars got 4 runs on 8 hits.
  5. Deeply saddened by this. Let's all pray for that family and community.
  6. Big shout out to 2 Eagleville players signing to play football at Cumberland university. Jernigan and Tousignant. Congrats.
  7. Also MTCS senior Ivey Starling signed a baseball scholarship with JuCo Faulkner State in Bay Minette, AL. Congrats.
  8. Cougars get the W vs Moore County 3-1. Thought it might be a shutout but Moore got a couple of hits and a run in the bottom of the 7th. How did everyone else do?
  9. This week's district games: MTCS & Moore County Forrest & Community Cascade & Huntland Eagleville plays Summit (new Williamson County High School).
  10. Actually a sophomore started the game and I am pretty sure those were his first varsity innings ever. He went 2 and 2/3rds. In the 3rd inning he hit the first two batters and they ended up being the only runs scored. Followed that with one of our corner infielders. In terms of pitching he is used as a middle reliever and probably threw 20 innings last year. He finished the 3rd inning, then went the next 3 allowing two baserunners -- a hit batsman in the 4th and a fielding error in the 5th. He started the 7th and got the lead-off batter on a fly to CF then gave up 2 hits. With runners on 1st and 3rd, 1 out and the go-ahead runner at the plate MTCS put in one of their district pitchers who got a double play ground ball. Baseball is a funny game -- it is different from basketball and football. Riverside is a very good team and will win lots of games this year. On Friday night, MTCS played a little better and got the win. MTCS has 4 returning starters and 1 of them missed most of the season last year due to injury. The other guys have some ability but lack experience.
  11. I know what you mean. They don't blow batters away. But I would take 5 scattered hits and two earned runs over 7 innings nearly every game.
  12. Unfortunately, did not play well on Saturday. Dropped a 10-3 to Ezell. 4 fielding errors and only 3 runs on 9 hits and 3 free passes. Then dropped a 5-4 decision to Clarksville Northwest. 4 more fielding errors and literally ran ourselves out of the tying and go-ahead runs in the bottom of the 6th. Growing pains I hope that get corrected over the course of the season.
  13. Baseball is a funny game. They clearly didn't pitch their best. They got 5 hits, 5 free passes and benefitted from 2 Cougar fielding errors. They left 8 stranded on the bases. Gant was 1-4 reaching on a high chopper to 2b that he beat out to put runners on the corner with 1 out in the top of 7. Cougars got 11 hits, 3 free passes, stranded 10 guys on the base paths and struck out 10 times. Sloppy baserunning cost us at least two runs. Saw several Eagleville players in the stands watching.
  14. Cougars get the W against Decatur Riverside 4-2. Back at it tomorrow for 2 more.
  15. Cougars go down to Jackson Christian 9-3 in the Warrior Spring Classic. Led 3-1 after 3 on some nice pitching by a Soph. He got the first two outs in the fourth then walked the next three batters before giving up a granny. Subsequent pitchers had a little trouble finding the zone and when they did JCS made them pay. Two more "goodnight Irene" homeruns before the night was finished. It doesn't get any easier - Decatur Riverside comes in tonight. Game time is 8:00.
  16. MTCS plays Jackson Christian tonight in the Warrior Classic. Game time is 6:30 at Joe Baron Field.
  17. Could be a factor. My understanding of the tie-breakers decided on by the coaches back in the fall is: 1. Head-to-head (record) 2. Did you beat a higher seed? 3. Did you lose to a lower seed? 4. Least runs allowed between the two teams Probably a coin toss after that. So I think that means that if Eagleville and Cascade win out that becomes a pretty significant run for every team as well as the Bell Buckle Cafe (if the tournament site is in Eagleville).
  18. Here's one for you... Last night with runners on 1st and 3rd and 1 out I saw an umpire emphatically yell "INFIELD FLY BATTER IS OUT" on a fly ball to the pitcher. Even umpires get it wrong from time to time.
  19. Moore County over Community 7-6 in Lynchburg, TN. Tying run 90 feet from home.
  20. Eagleville wins the rematch 4-2.
  21. MTCS split the games yesterday. An 11-1 5 inning win vs Lancaster Christian and an 8-1 loss vs 7AAA LaVergne. After 4 innings Cougars led 1-0. Had trouble finding the strike zone and kicked it around a bit in the last 3 innings. Bowman had 3 hits for the Cougars. Starling pitched 4 no-hit innings. JV plays Fayetteville tonight. Heard Community beat Moore County 5-0. Anyone got the score on the Forrest game?
  22. Eagleville vs Cascade (pitchers duel = low scoring game) Moore County vs Community Forrest vs Huntland MTCS out of district with a DH vs Lancaster Christian and LaVergne.
  23. I know there are some fine #2 guys in the district, in my book he should be at the top of the list.
  24. Game 2 of Cascade vs MTCS was a 8-0 lopsided victory for Cascade. Roberts was the starter for MTCS; Rippy for Cascade. Cascade scored 3 in the first, added 1 in the third, 3 in the 4th and 1 more for good measure in the 6th. Cougars managed 1 hit on the day -- a lead off double to start the game. Cougars had 3 errors defensively, Cascade had 1. MTCS used Bonabi, Buckner and Barker in relief. Cascade used Reese in relief. MTCS plays 7AAA LaVergne on Thursday.
